The wind was slight. He felt a stir in the air.

A change of directions.

He stilled his pace and the dragon demon paused.

I know this scent.

What is it that brings her here now?

He wondered.

He never understood her full intentions. Never.

Even with her direct approach toward him one night.

He did not need the use of such a deceptive gemstone. And he did not care for her freedom. If she wanted it…she had to find her own way.

Yes, he could suppose…he was, in any case, limitless in his power. His power knew no boundary - in spite of the apparent evidence otherwise. He did not need his left arm for his authority and rule to be exhulted.

Hmmph. She brought a visitor.

His eyes narrowed in distrust… still he was curious about what information she could have today. It seemed to him that she should not pursue this…hobby…of hers if she valued her survival.

However, she had given him beneficial details in the past…

…like a good spy…

He considered the meaning of her arrival with the presence of the boy.

"Rin. Jaken."

"Ye-ye-yes, milord?" His servant beckoned.

"Leave. Now."

"As you wish, milord."

After they took their leave, Sesshoumaru walked toward the source of the scent.

"State your business - and quickly."

Sango, Kagome, and Kirara were nearing a fresh water stream that was said to be north of the village they had recently departed. For them, some intimate conversation and cleanliness were essential to keeping up their spirits since they had yet to recover a shard this past month.…and to distract themselves from the ever roving monk's hand.

Miroku finally gave consent for Sango to head off when his eyes caught view of a rather exotic looking woman. Leave it to him to abandon his reason when a pretty girl walked by.

Even though she was young and attractive….with a few scars of course.

Thank goodness her husband was home.

Inuyasha had withdrawn from their group to find relaxation away from the village-childrens' prying, prodding, and poking at his dog ears. Kagome finally `sat' him when he started to conspire with Shippo. He actually gave the little runt suggestions!

They did take it overboard. Well, not like it wasn't deserved.

Everyday she had to put forth her greatest efforts not to ponder the fate that awaited their fighting group. So strange that they would come so far and not have any shards save the one Kagome held around her neck. Naraku had the rest…she was certain.

Then there was Kouga…

She forced herself to think of the reality of the situation.

...and Kohaku.

Did they have any choices left? What could they do to save either of them?

She knew it was inevitable that the next target would eventually be the little love of her life. Her baby brother.

He's not so little now.

So many lives…gone…because he is not himself. He is under Naraku's control.

He is lost to us. Isn't he?

She was realistic enough to bury the growing depth of her grief. She did not dare hope for the survival of her little brother.

Never.

It will never happen.

I will take my life when the time comes…

Her thoughts were brought back to the present when Kagome released a sigh of delight.
