To Perish Once More: Chapter Eight: Encounter

-Jasmine Fields (a.k.a. Jazzy)

A/N: Help! I'm in a dilemma! In future chapters (ah no, I will not say when) I will need a name for the time slip at the Bone-Eater's well. Unfortunately, I can't give away any secrets, so to whom ever inspires the title, that chapter will most definitely be dedicated to you - and if you want, I can throw in some home made cookies! Anyone? Cookies? No? If I offer to purchase $5 worth in lottery tickets, would that be bribery enough? ::wink, wink::

…Additionally, whether the name is in English or Japanese, I would like some kind of reason and/or meaning of the name attached, so that perhaps I can wind it into the story line. Thank you, gentle readers!

Her panting subsided, at last, when they evacuated the path the toad and his charge cleared for them a mile or so back. Their curiosity was insatiable at this point.

The damn toad sprinted off like a hot potato had burned his ass!

And without a word!

Just wait you annoying little booger…I'll throw my Hirakutsu at you if you don't stop running! She thought, gasping for her breath as she scurried up behind Jaken.

She took a glimpse behind her left shoulder.

Yep. Kagome's still there.

Kirara's not far behind either.

She's probably patrolling for overly ambitious predators.

While Kagome had stilled herself motionless and tried to stare down the little twerp, he friggin' just darted away from the stream in a panicked frenzy! Of course, she hadn't been expecting that either.

Was he scared of us?

They were a lot quicker on their feet than she initially anticipated.

Perhaps Rin thought it was a game of sorts. Who knew what kids thought up?

In any case, the dynamic duo dashed away before either Kagome or she could ask any substantial questions.

She heard coughing and wheezing from behind her.

"Ee-gad!"

Thwack.

The tree branches hit Kagome square in the face.

Ouch. That had to hurt.

They were now standing side by side waiting for the dust to clear so they could find the unsightly demon.

What do ya' know?

He was there one second…and then, voila! Took off like a bat outta hell!

She didn't notice when Sango first took to chasing after the rug-rat and her sickly green companion, but then, she was still overly dazed by the very fact that he and Rin had spied on them!

Truthfully, as irksome as he was, Jaken wasn't all that bad. He just never knew when enough was enough.

At least he's got the loyalty-thing down.

Gotta give the twerp his dues.

So, what's he doing around here anyway?

She was attempting to reason again - a dangerous thing to stumble upon when she was in shock. It was true….but it couldn't be avoided. It was her nature to mull over such ponderings.

Of course, where there's a Jaken, there's a Sesshoumaru.

She wondered why she was giving chase anyway.

Sango's ahead of me…better hurry up!

Her lungs were almost expired with all the dirt dancing around her.

Thwack.

…definitely, didn't see that coming.

That was almost as bad as tripping.

She closed her eyes trying to tear-away the grime that attached to her inner eyes.

That was a pain!

Hey…

Where's Kirara?

***

She heard the hustle and the catch in the breath of one of her pursuers.

Really, they weren't dangerous…

…but who was she not to obey the quirky demon of her lord and master?

She sighed.

Oh well! At least Lord Jaken knows where we're going!

***

They all tumbled forward as Kagome ran straight into them from behind.

Right into Kagura.

"…take this shard from my spine and let me give you my life." He was saying.
