To Perish Once More: Chapter Eighteen: Quenched

~Jasmine Fields

A/N: On my Chinese translations, I have been using the English-Chinese Pinyin Dictionary, first edition 1998, edited by Meng Fanling and copyrighted by New World Press, Beijing, China. (Nope, don't own any of that!)

Quick translation note on 'yizhi' in chapter 17: this word is the closest I could come up with for the meaning of 'will', with reference to a person's determination and character of the heart. Again, the word-for-word is rough at best, when conveyed into English.

Now that that piece of literary importance is out for absorption......

A shout out to Aurora Nyte, raine, and Raihu for such kind words!

Resist.

He commanded his rebellious mind.

Resist.

Really, he should have been more forcibly equipped to handle this situation.

Since hunting and destroying Naraku became his life's pursuit, he and his demon wolf pack fought infinite, merciless, ferocious demons easier to slaughter than what ever this sentiment was purging from his carefully placed willpower.

Sugar…

Grunting, knee-deep in warm flowing stream water his raged flesh fell to the temptation blissfully torturing his heart.

Resist.

The battle in his mind ceased logic and the depths of his soul's yearning over came any ability of resistance to win. Victory - he could never get the enemy of his mind to yield.

Spice…

The power of his longing overwhelmed even his strength of mind. The carnal cravings mirrored the absolute truth and exposed all intensity of his love.

Re - .

Grasping hold of the embankment, his conduct followed thought into enchanted amazement.

She's here

Arguing reason against his demonic self, he relinquished his body to the hallucination of his dream world.

Nnnh.

Right about now, he knew he was among the more pathetic fools in the universe. Of that, he was better than certain.

Nnnnngh.

"Here - let me, love…" He would say.

Releasing a cry of ecstasy, because he was confident that he could kill the desperation, his body refused to obey the contest of his mind - his heart.

Except the development only deepened his desire - his despair - his body's control…

Sug - nnnh.

Claws dug deeper into the soft earth while dancing shadows of love that would never be spoke the ancient language envisioned in his consciousness.

"Don't…" She always said that.

Frowning, he admitted his wounded pride with that statement.

Always…

She always rejected his advances.

But, oh no, not tonight…

She was his - tonight, he pledged him self that she would memorize and not forget him - or the proclaimed fervency of his soul.

Gods…

Slamming his fist into the ground, he softly whispered the name singing in his heart.

Kagome…

He didn't want to suffocate her while his body took over, but he'd be damned if she departed his company before experiencing everything that spellbound him to her.

Spice.

His mind was lost to him.

Nnngh.

Hells bells, he couldn't help it.

"Don't stop."

He intended to communicate fully the magnitude of his love to her everyday - like this - but her reception of him hadn't been met with open arms…except for this very instance that would sink when the reality of his nightmares resumed.

Sugar.

His brow layered in sweat, while he closed his eyes and expressed every thought that he would never have an opportunity to act on.

"I'm not leaving you." He would say.

Even if this was his only chance to get her to hear the authentic vigor behind those words.

"I don't want you to." She would declare.

Finally…it was about time.

Kagome…

Just as his pulse quickened, so did his renewed stamina to gratify the purpose for his inexorable revelry.

"Say it."

Moaning, he wanted her to repeat the echo of his heart.

Spice.

Falling to his knees, he cursed the anguish trapped in the throes of his passion. His head bowed against the bank lamenting his true loss to the heavens.

"I can't."

Her heart rejected him; he didn't understand how it was that she could be repulsed by his forward declarations - and not him - not this.

"Why not?"

Sorrow submerged his soul's sensibility as he wailed to the heavens her name.

Damn it…Damn.

He couldn't command his panting to normalize and he didn't want to force the expression of his body to cease. His body demanded submission to the visions in his mind.

I can't live without you…

His tragedy was that while moments such as these were becoming more and more frequent, he could never forgive him self if he neglected to avenge his tribe's deaths for other interests.

O the - hot sh - o gods…

…and realization dawned.

Hot tears were the testament to his predicament.

Ughnnf.

He lay in the water face downward, leaning his free arm over his head.

Hnnn.

Delirium over-stepped his mental boundaries as he rolled over to catch a glance at the moon. It wouldn't suffice to hold anyone else in his arms - regardless of the past promises in his arrogant youth.

When this is over…

He didn't know what he would do.

Reality was precisely that - one heart ache followed by another. His persistence only came with the occasional glances she gave him when the apple of her very own eye fought her concerning some matters he wasn't entirely aware of.

Eyes glossed over from his exploits, he heaved a sigh of pseudo contentment.

Kagome.

He didn't want anyone else.

There was no other.
