A/N: This chapter was incredibly difficult to write, but necessary, so please be forewarned. I want to sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart if this upsets any one; I know it did me. That said; there are many unsung heroes I'd like to dedicate this one to - for every person who has ever battled tyranny, hatred, and/or prejudice to what ever end. I hope, above all things, you find peace and victory where ever you are.

“Oh, my beautiful barren wife, t'was mine own failure - ney, my sin - that faulted thine own when my heart dost discovered spite and illness toward the tomb engraved closing off thy womb. When thine eyes fell like silent waterfalls, I grieved, searching the heavens and universes beyond this world to gift thee with thy greatest wish. Mourning for thee alone, I scorched the land and smote dry the rivers and lakes reflecting your sorrow and caused creation to beg for swift retribution for trifling with thy gentle vision.
The sun glistened fiery red against the midnight sky and my heart rejoiced. The winds distorting the strong oak were ceased by thunder resonance and lightning bolts hailing their vicious furious assailment against the majestic mountain ranges. Thy mirrors of paradise were lost in these storms that punished nature and its rebellion.
When once again, the earth opened its consciousness to joy and the afternoon drizzle appeared, I saw thy pale beauty kissed beneath twinkling stars, under the pale iridescent moon. My petunia - my wife, I fled to a far off cavern and hid my face in its secret hollow chambers to encounter your lover no more.
Goddess of the dawn's clarity, awaken from thy slumber and steal away with me from thine lover. Let thy breath caress mine as a gentle breeze and thy honey glazed lips, refined as silk, delicious as red wine, taste the morning dew before the sun reaches mid-point and my love ignites it self and is lost forever with out thine embrace.”
Closing her literature book, after reading through the passage several times, she pondered the meaning. Well, she would have, except that an especially cabin feverish half dog demon was pacing the room, leaving worn down tracks in her carpeting while she attempted to study.
He really needs to experience a tranquilizer some day…
His excessive fussing and unnecessary fidgeting really extended the boundaries of her generous endurance, she thought.
But, then again...
He would most likely find more amusement in being a log stump than sitting and waiting quietly in her room.
Setting aside her books, eyes drooped, then standing up, she stretched out her tiredness.
“Inuyasha, I'm done for the night.”
Perking up, he glanced at her desk clock. Following his gaze she set her alarm.
9:30…
“You're done early tonight.”
She stifled a yawn.
“Well, it has been almost two weeks. I'm practically caught up with school - even though my grades still aren't as high as I would prefer.”
Her eyes stung and her vision was blurring. She really didn't feel like carrying on much conversation tonight.
Inuyasha must have noticed because he set Tesseiga against her night stand and supported her shoulders as she sat on her mattressed twenty-first century bed.
“Kagome, you look like hell. Get some rest.”
“Sure thing, Inuyasha.”
Too tired to argue, she crawled beneath her warm comforter breath level as she sunk into her pillows and settled in for the night.
So she thought.
Eyes blinked once - no, twice - she thought. Why couldn't she get a break and get some real sleep?
Did I turn out the light?
Yes.
Her memory recalled.
When?
Right after Inuyasha told me to get rest. As though it was rocket science to figure out!
She was toast if she couldn't get past her own exhaustion to fall into peaceful slumber.
I feel like I'm forgetting some thing, but what?
She hated that feeling - in particular, when the probability that she was certain about being one hundred percent right about that particular fact. Chances were, it had some thing to do with geometrical shapes and the pythagorem theorem. Oh yeh, and cross multiplication and algebra equations.
First, outside, inside, last…
Uggh! Why now of all times?
Hello-o-o, Mr. Sandman, we're talking about sleep here! I'll take the fairy godmother right about now - or start taking tips from Rumplestilzschin. Any one else is up for hire, if you won't do your job!
Besides, there are just some things worse than facing off an enamored Hojo or a bunch of well meaning school friends - or horribly plain, boring teachers, for that - like Inuyasha breathing down my neck about how I need to `hurry up' with this! Or `quit doing' that!
Next thing I know, it'll be day break and he'll be yelling at me about how little sleep I got; then, I'll question my sanity and forget to sit him for being an insensitive jerk!
Huffing, she cut off the thoughts and tried closing her eyes again. Eyes blinked once - then twice. Was she already asleep?
This is strange…
She never encountered such living images before.
Miroku?
Purple eyes, a holy man's robe, what looked like several ladies surrounding him, except Miroku was missing his jangling staff and rosary. Upon closer inspection she noticed that he did not appear to have Japanese origins - not totally, anyway.
Maybe, he's a westerner?
Black beard, long face…wicked appearance with out a doubt, he was evil. Womanizing, mystical sorcerer - his being…was looking straight into her soul.
Wait! I've seen him in history books! That's Rasputin!
Did she have a test on the Romanovs and Russian fables tomorrow and not study? Maybe tensions were stirring between them and Japan again regarding their three islands and she had been out of the news loop?
No, that's not it at all…
Storing this information away for later use, she concentrated on the next frame of events unfolding before her.
Schwasticks? What?! Why am I watching this?
This is awful!
These people…they're all saluting. Saluting - Hitler?!?!
Panic started to grip her as she realized she was witnessing innocents killed brutally for no reason - and in the background there was always Hitler and Rasputin rejoicing. But she couldn't figure that part out. How were Rasputin and he related? She always thought Stalin was the one with connections…
Wasn't Rasputin from another time period?
Kinda like her, she supposed, but she was really ready to wake up now.
Inuyasha! Inuyasha!
This can't be real…I'm safe at home in the real modern era! I'm in my bed - I'm not even in the warring states era right now!
Inuyasha!
Cannonballs blasted all around her and she ducked behind an unidentified building only to come around a corner where she witnessed hundreds of people mercilessly slaughtered before her eyes. It was massive murder in the highest criminal degree to exist.
Now is definitely a good time to wake up…
Reaching out her hand she saw a mother with a tightly wrapped bundle fall in the snow as a grinning soldier carrying a rifle approached. For a minute she thought her hiding place was discovered, but as soon as he bypassed her position, she launched her self forward to try to save the baby - if it were still breathing. She cried as she crawled forward, stunned by the blistering cold.
It's just a nightmare…It's just a nightmare.
The baby was wailing and the mother that clutched the innocent, though bathed in thick blood did not relinquish hold on her child.
It's as if she knows something more than the rest of these people…
Fingers bleeding, Kagome crawled and nuzzled the child, trying to shield both their bodies from the bitter winds blasting them full force. Angry artillery shells fired overhead and automatic weapons fired in the distance.
Don't be scared…Don't be scared.
“Hush baby. I'll help you. Hush.”
She went to pry the baby from the woman dressed much like a pauper and wept when her hands swept through the child as she would a phantom. Puzzled, she tried again - and then again for good measure to ensure her senses were not deceiving her. Again, a phantom - or some thing else she couldn't name.
“Why can't I save you? Why?”
Sobbing, she didn't give up her fight and shielded them the best she could.
“Because, priestess…”
A chill ran up her spine and she stiffened at the unexpected answer.
“Because priestess, this is how myths, legends, and history are made.”
Looking in the direction of manically boastful laughter, her heart felt crushed as the man resembling an image of Rasputin held her gaze and ran a bayonet through the infant, effectively and immediately hushing him. That's not what she wanted. She had wanted to spare him from being murdered - and failed.
Frozen, she gaped at the entrails gushing forth. Righteous rage fueled her weakened body to stand up from her stupor.
“You monster, monster, monster!”
“Am I?” He chuckled.
“This is unforgivable! I can't believe you'd do this!”
“Oh, believe it priestess. There will be more where we'll both meet-up.”
And then he suddenly vanished.
“Inuyasha! Oh my god! Inuyasha!”
She was struggling to wake up; there was nothing better than being awake right now.
“Kagome! What's wrong?”
Shaking her out of her nightmare, he looked worried - nearly frantic.
“Genocide! Inuyasha, that's what that story was about! That's what he wants to accomplish!”
He looked confused while trying to calm her nerves against an enemy he knew nothing about.
“Slow down, Kagome. You were thrashing around in your sleep. Start with what happened, then you can explain what this gen-cide is.”
