InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ To Remember You ❯ To Remember You ( Chapter 30 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
InvincibleInuYasha: The final chapter of To Remember You has come! Sorry to end it so soon. Just can't think of much else after I set up so much of the story already. So, too bad. I said in the last chapter everything else I'm ready to write about. Just review and I'll think about it. Better get writing on this final chapter or you'll all try to eat me.
P.S.- Jacketslacker pretty much wrote most of this chapter. I was busy sleeping. If the chapter is great, be sure to thank him too!
Jacketslacker: It's really the last chapter! Now we can find out how it all ends finally!
Disclaimer: Inu Yasha doesn't belong to me. Bah humbug.
::Chapter 30: To Remember You::
Kagome smiled happily as she kissed my cheek, "Tatsuya!" She still calls me by my middle name. I remembered Inu Yasha, and if she called me by my real name, she'd always remember what happened to him. The first time she called me by my first name again, she almost cried. I didn't want that, so I told her to continue to use my middle name. I smiled back and said, "Hi Kagome. What's up?" She hugged me and said, "Nothing. I just wanted to let you know that I love you." I laughed, "I love you too." She had a longing look in her eyes, "It's been a year. You want to visit him?" I knew who she was talking about. I nodded, "Yeah. We should see him."
We walked from my house back to Kagome's. She picked a few cherry blossoms from a nearby tree and she took my hand, leading me to the Goshinboku. She kneeled down beside a small stone with two words carved into it. 'Inu Yasha' Kagome laid the blossoms down on the grave. She wiped her eyes, "I miss him a lot. He saved the world with your help you know." I hugged Kagome, "Just know this Kagome. I'll always be there for you. I won't let anything hurt you. I'll try my hardest to keep you safe." She smiled weakly, "Thank you, Tatsuya." I tried to remember. Exactly one year ago, Kagome came to my house. I didn't remember who she was. We spent the next three months together and she told me everything, but nothing came back to me. I remember that day I remembered. I still don't remember absolutely everything, but Kagome is hopeful that I will someday.
"Oh, I almost forgot." Kagome said. "I have one last thing to try to get your memory back." "Okay, what you got for me?" I asked. Kagome held what looked like a large marble. Except it was glowing pink. I asked, "What is that?" She said, "It's called a Sacred Jewel. Maybe, if you touch this, you'll remember everything." I gulped, "What if it does something else?" Kagome smiled, "I don't think this will do any harm. It's meant for good purposes anyway." She held it out to me. And I took it. As I held it in my hand, nothing happened. I looked into Kagome's eyes. "I'm sorry, nothing."
At this, Kagome broke down and cried. She fell to her knees and I wrapped my arms around her to comfort her. "I thought for sure this would work," she said between sobs. "I wanted you to remember it all, Tatsuya. I wanted you completely here with me again." I gripped Kagome tighter. "Kagome, I wish more than anything that you were as happy as possible." With that said a tear trickled down my face and a glow came from my hand. I was still holding the Sacred Jewel. Suddenly there was a blinding light and then I blacked out. I came too a few moments later in Kagome's arms.
"Tatsuya? Are you okay?" "Kagome, I disappeared. And Inu Yasha..." Tears slid down her face, "Do you remember everything?" I breathed in deeply, "All of it. Except what happened when I disappeared." She hugged me and whispered in a broken sob, "That's when Inu Yasha... died."
I ran my fingers through my hair. I didn't have dog ears anymore. I remembered those, but when I got back from my disappearance, they were gone. I didn't have those painful transformations anymore. Kagome said I wasn't a hanyou anymore.
Kagome and I sat there for a while. Eventually, we got up. I asked her, "What happened to the Sacred Jewel?" We looked around and realized it wasn't there. "It's gone," she said. She sighed "I was the guardian of the Sacred Jewel. If I was to ever to use the Jewel, it had to be for something that will benefit the world." I nodded, "Oh." She smiled. "You wished for me to be happy. That was a truly unselfish wish for the happiness of another even at the cost to you."
At this I was puzzled. "Yeah, how come I just got my memory back and Inu Yasha didn't come back to life instead?" "Because," Kagome said "I've moved past loving Inu Yasha and fallen for you now. I want you so that's what makes me happy." I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear and hug Kagome as tight as I could.
Kagome was the first to break the silence between us. "I don't know what I would have done with it. I couldn't have kept it. Who knows if somebody else knew about it's powers and started everything over again?" I said, "You couldn't have just destroyed it?" Kagome thought for a minute, "I was thinking about it before. But I'm not exactly sure what would happen. I mean, Kikyo burned the Jewel with her body when she died. But then it just came back from my body when I was reincarnated." I suggested, "Maybe you could have burnt it anyway. If it wasn't with your body, then there's a chance that it wouldn't return in your reincarnation, if you have one that is." Kagome said, "Well there's nothing to worry about then because now it's gone."
Kagome closed her eyes, "The Jewel, though meant for goodness and purity, has torn apart and shortened the lives of countless people. People overwhelmed by selfishness, grief, power, strength, and heartlessness. This Jewel serves no purpose in helping save lives. Instead, it helped destroy families, frendships, and alliances. I hope it never comes back. I don't want anybody to deal with the pain again."
Kagome and I had returned to my house. Grandpa was cheerful as usual, playing poker with his old friends. Unfortuanely, he had lost me my stereo set. I guess he owes me another one later. We went into my room and sat there for a while. Kagome had taken many pictures over the last few years. She had pinned them up on my wall. Many of them were of the two of us, sometimes with other friends or family. But there was one with Kagome, me, and Inu Yasha. When I saw it before Kagome helped to restore some of my memory, I wondered who it was. He looked just like me, except we had weird dog ears. That was the first picture Kagome had given me. I think that's what helped me most.
Kagome smiled and took the picture, "This was a nice picture. We were all by the Goshinboku. I like this picture a lot." I smiled, "Yeah, me too. I think it helped me a lot. I remember things about you and Inu Yasha sometimes. I would look at that picture everyday trying to just remember anything at all. If I was lucky, I did. If not, I kept trying. I knew there used to be something. I wanted to remember." Kagome hugged me, "Really? That's nice. It really helped that much?" I nodded, "Yeah. Yeah, it was everyday that I tried to remember something. But, hey, that's what I had to do to remember you." She laughed and hugged me closer, "I love you Tatsuya." I kissed her lightly, "I love you too."

Jacketslacker: Hey, don't I get recognized for my massive contributions to the story?! After everything I've done for you, this is how you repay me? I should corrup the whole story and make you look incompetent for this. But I'm too lazy. Anyways, hope everyone liked it, I take full responsibility if you like it, if not it's InvincibleInuYasha's fault.
InvincibleInuYasha: Geez, you're mean. Yeah, you wrote over half of this chapter and you gave me great ideas for the last, say, five chapters I think. Don't feel like couting now. Anyway, it's not my fault if it sucks! Gah! Aren't the readers used to my style of writing? The sudden change might piss them off! Though I must say, you write very nicely. So anyway, goodbye readers! Thanks for checking out the fic. Give me suggestions for another fic if you want one. Otherwise I'll just start proofreading for somebody. Sayanora! ^o^
