“What are you afraid of?”
The voice echoes from all around thick and dark like crude oil. It slickly enters her ear and crawls down her spine with icy fingers. There is only blackness pressing in around her.
What are you afraid of?
She can't remember the name that goes with that voice. Her mind is too paralyzed to think. She sees red eyes through a curtain of flowing black hair before they too are swallowed by the dark.
What are you afraid of?
She feels nothing but can hear that she is not alone in her dark cell. The scrape of scales and the sharp click of spiny legs draw near all around her. Only the sick anticipation and pounding of her blood keep her anchored here in the nothingness.
What are you afraid of?
Can't scream. If she screams now she'll never stop. Don't scream, don't breath, don't move. She grips her own arms so tight she draws blood. The pain doesn't register in her mind, only the adrenaline rushing through her head and the burning in her oxygen deprived lungs. Can't pass out. Surely she will never wake again.
Red light suddenly enters her vision. As the darkness splits like an open wound she hears a voice shout out, “KAGOME!”
