Attention in unlikely places

10 am. It was time to get up for a very unwilling couple. Inu Yasha and Kagome both groaned when a knock came to the door with a question of if they wanted to go to brunch or not. Two non committal answers came from inside the room, and outside the young martial arts teacher shook her head. It was almost like college all over again, everyone so close, and Yash and Kagome not willing to get out of bed before noon.

The two had not gone back to sleep after their 5:30 tousle and the drenching of one Inu Hanyou. They had talked for hours, regaining the friendship that they had lost over the past three years. There had been tears, laughter, and more than a few angry growls from the boy. The feel of his angry growls calmed the anger that she had directed toward her ex.

At 10:02 her cell phone rang. She picked it up looking at the caller ID and groaned a horrid, deep groan. It was Hojo. She did not want to walk into that train wreck on this morning after bearing her soul to InuYasha just a few hours before. It would just be too angry and too painful for her to deal with. She was drained as it was and Hojo was just not the person that would ease that drain. Her cell beeped announcing that she had a voice mail and amazingly it was from Hojo. Again groaning she went to listen to it.

It went as follows: "Hey Kag just wanted to know where you went last night. Thought you were coming home, hope you get this and call me back." As she listened to the ludicrous voicemail she snorted a most unrefined sound. It was true; he hadn't been listening at all when she called him yesterday. Then again, the anger was taking hold again, why had he waited until after ten in the morning to call and find out where she was. Boy he loved her didn't he?

As she was dealing with the crap on her voicemail, InuYasha was dealing with crap of his own. Kikyo had called shrieking at him to find out where he was. He had to hold the cell phone a foot away from his head just to be able to decipher her words. She screeched for so long that he finally just gave up and hung up on her without talking.

Ending their effective phone calls at the same time they both laid back on the bed staring at the ceiling. Kagome reached over and grabbed his hand, intertwining their fingers. She had a morose look on her face that cut InuYasha down. Staring at their conjoined hands, she spoke. "Is there somewhere we can both go and hide for at least a month?"

InuYasha grunted, the firs thing he thought was no, there was no place they could go that would shield them from the world. Then it occurred to him, Sesshomaru. He had never been able to turn Kagome away, why should now be any different?

"Kagome, why don't we go and stay with Sesshomaru for a little while?" he asked her out of the blue. "He has that huge mansion all for himself and Rin; I doubt he would turn us away. It'll be just the three of us again, like the old days."

She contemplated his words. "Ok" she answered slowly. It hadn't been her first idea considering she knew just how the Inu brothers thought about each other. She never would have guessed the InuYasha would go to his brother in times of need. She loved both brothers with all her heart, it couldn't be too bad to go and stay with them for a little while could it? Besides, Rin was just so cute, how could she refuse to see the little girl who reminded her so much of herself.

"Lets stay with Sango and Miroku for a couple days, and then we will go to the mansion and stay there for a month or so, just until everything calms down." This was her way of making the plan real in her own mind. It made it so she and her puppy were on the same page and no questions would be left. "Ok" came the simple eloquent answer, and it was set in stone.

Now, to just call Sesshomaru and convince him…

~*~on the move to Sesshomaru house~*~

With a tearful goodbye to Sango and Miroku, and the original `keh' from InuYasha, they had both gotten into their cars, and were headed east down I90 to find their way to the Hamptons where Sesshomaru lived. The ridiculously rich, like Sesshomaru, lived there with style. It was an hour drive with one stop at a rest stop for coffee, and then they were there.

To say that Sesshomaru lived in one of the nicest houses in an already beautiful neighborhood was to make a pale understatement. He lived in the absolute biggest, classiest, newest houses in the area. Even the TV and movie stars that lived around him were awed by the structure that he himself had designed and then help construct. InuYasha and Sesshomaru alike were not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get dirty, no matter how much they had, or how little they had.

The house itself was built in the Southern Key West style. It was three stories tall with a wrap around front porch that was accentuated with roman columns. It was white, with a red front door and blue accents. However he had accomplished it there were cherry trees all over the front yard. They were in full bloom, making it seem as though it was snowing cherry blossoms at every breeze. The front walk itself was made of terra cotta bricks and it led to the steps of the front porch. The steps were built in a semi-circle effect with 8 steps leading up to the porch itself.

They parked their cars in the lined parking area at the side of the house. People who were unexpected parked there, to only have their car moved by a valet into either the guest or private garage. The cars in these garaged ranged from the current Jeep wreck-in-progress, to the cherry `67 fastback Shelby Cobra.

Moving together to walk up to the Cherry red front door, it was thrown open and a very excited seven year old girl ran full throttle into the waiting arms of Kagome. She squealed when the small woman grabbed her up and swung her around in a circle before settling her down gently.

"Rin" a cool voice sounded from the door way as a business-like Sesshomaru made his person visible from the dark inside the house. He calmly walked down the steps to where his brother and Kagome waited. In an absolute role reversal Kagome launched herself at him and he willingly caught the excited girl. He swung her around just as Kagome had done with Rin, happy to see the slip of a `human' again. He would not admit in public that this girl meant the world to him, and he was willing to do just about anything to protect and care for her. She was just like a sister to him, and if anything, the Inu are very loyal to family, even if it is adopted. It was the one thing that he and his brother could agree on wholeheartedly, Kagome was theirs, in sisterhood on one hand, and love on another, and they would protect her regardless of what happened.

Rin had meanwhile moved on to her `uncle' and jumped into his arms just like Kagome, only minus the squealing to save her father's and uncle's ears. He hugged the small girl close and she kissed his cheek. This made him blush and cough a little, but it was all an act and she knew it.

All of the sudden, remembering who he was and where he was, Sesshomaru set her down and preceded to quirk an eyebrow. What was the world coming to that he was showing public emotion and affection with someone? He internally snorted at himself and bade them to follow him into the house.

The inside of his "home" was as impressive as the outside. There was a front part that was for show, and then the back half that he and Rin generally lived. There were at least four living rooms, but only one that he allowed to be cluttered in any way. Along the walls there were pictures of Rin and her horse, Ah Un, and there was a family picture of InuYasha, Kagome, Miroku, Sango, and even Sesshomaru. The sixth person in the pictures was the other woman in Sesshomaru's life that he would protect with his life. That was his lost love Kagura. She had disappeared suddenly after her family had gotten tangled into a mob deal and to this day, he didn't know where she was. He was still searching in private, hoping to someday locate his love. They had posed in an old time picture booth and had a cowboy picture taken. It was silly, but Sango and Kagome and Kagura too, had begged so hard that the men gave in, not without a price, but they gave in.

Rin had commandeered Kagome's hand and dragged her over to the couch to have some "girl talk", while the men moved to the other couch and talked about "male stuff". It was uncomfortable for both of them, they didn't generally get along that well, but for the girls, they would put on a show. After a half hour of playing catch up, Kagome stood and announced that she would go to her Jimmy and grab her stuff for the night. She was calmly notified that her car had been emptied and her stuff awaited her in her room. She smiled what had she really expected?

~*~Dinner that night~*~

They had decided to take a dinner out that night. It was the last time Kagome wanted to leave the safety of Sesshomaru's house for at least a month, and she decided to go out with a bang. They went into the city to find a fancy restaurant, and had found a great Japanese steak house. It was just what the doctor ordered. They laughed and ate until they thought their stomachs would fair burst. It was unusual that Sesshomaru ate, but he conceded the point with the puppy dog eyes that Kagome had given him. Despite himself, he had a great time and enjoyed himself.

The car ride back was a short one, but after the stressful past few days, Kagome was exhausted. Sitting between her two favorite demons in the back seat of the black limo, she was feeling warm and protected. It was relaxing to have just InuYasha's aura around her, to have Sesshomaru's there with him was almost lethal to her ability to stay awake. She listened to them talk about their different activities and yadda, yadda, she then proceeded to lay down across them both, her head in InuYasha's lap, and her legs curled around Sesshomaru's waist.

At her actions both of the men's eyebrows shot up in surprise. It had been a long time since they had been with a person as impulsive as Kagome, and it was all rushing back to them in a hurry. Turning to look at each other, their eyes caught and they both shrugged. It was useless to try and do anything with the girl but humor her so with silent regret, they gave up as one massaged her shoulders, and the other rubbed her calves. That did it for her, she fell asleep in the back seat of the limo, her mind and body in the presence of two dominant demons who could snap and kill a human almost instantly, trusting them to watch over her while she dreamed of things to impossible to occur.

~*~at home~*~

As they pulled up to the front entrance of the house, they both shrugged again. InuYasha gathered Kagome in his arms and carried her into the house. Sesshomaru bade InuYasha a decent night and directed him to his and Kagome's rooms, Sesshomaru continued down to the south wing of his house to check on his little Rin, and work on some work in his study.

InuYasha made it to his and her rooms. The rooms were connected by conjoining doors and that was a comfort to him. No matter he could be in her room instantly should there be a problem. He smirked knowing Sesshomaru thought of everything when it came to his family and their protective behaviors.

He nudged open the door to her room, meaning only to set her on the bed, tuck her in after removing her jeans, and proceed into his room to rest and work on his problems. He set her down gently, but she woke up a little. She had woken up enough to change her own clothes, so InuYasha had consented to take his leave of her. She started to disrobe and change when she suddenly stopped him.

"Puppy?" The cringe that followed that single word was almost palpable but not seen by Kagome. He hated his nickname as much as Sesshomaru hated his, but once she used it there was no telling her no. He turned back around to see the woman changed and settled on the bed. She looked up at him with big blue eyes and a little smirk and said the following that did make him visibly cringe, "do you think you and Fluffy want to have a slumber party with me and Rin tonight?"

He wanted to say no, desired to say no, tried to say no, but to no avail, one look into those big blue eyes and he gave in and moved across the room to pick out a movie. He knew that as soon as he settled on one, Kagome and Rin would change his mind. Kagome flitted across the mansion to gather her other conspirator and the unsuspecting TaiYoukai.

A chick flick later, and two hours, it was way past time for Rin to go to bed. She was already sleeping at the foot of the bed while the adults were propped up against the headboard. Sesshomaru moved to take her to bed, but Kagome stopped him. "Let me" she quietly demanded and picked up the small girl and moved her to her own bed. She tucked her in and kissed her forehead before moving back to the bedroom with the two demons in it.

She moved back in between the two men and snuggled in. They uncomfortably looked at each other, but when they made the move to leave, she mumbled in a very sleepy voice, "I want my puppy and my fluffy to stay". They both let out an audible sigh, but moved to lie down at each side of her. She fell asleep almost instantly with their aura's calming her into an almost drug induced sleep. Sleeping between the two was like a drug to her. After she fell asleep, Sesshomaru took his leave, leaving InuYasha to deal with the sneaky little girl who was wormed into their hearts.

I know there is no lemon in this chapter, very unlike me, but I thought it would be cool to actually put some plot into it. Don't be afraid to review and tell me what you think.
