Inuyasha crashed into Kaede’s hut, tears streaking his face with a bleeding and naked miko in his arms. Unfortunately, Kaede was not to be found, only Sango, Shippo, and Miroku. They all stood up in shock, seeing Kagome in such a state, sending a pang of fear throughout the whole room. “DON’T JUST STAND THERE LOOKING LIKE IDIOTS! SOMEONE GET KAEDE!” Inuyasha shouted, feeling his helplessness wash over him again.
At that, Shippo bounded out of the hut fearfully, racing to find Kaede, tears streaming down his little face. As he bounded to the herb garden, Kaede looked up to see the crying kitsune bounding towards her with more fear in his eyes than anything, screaming something about Kagome. “Calm down child! What be going on?” she asked soothingly.
“Ka–Kagome! She’s at the h–hut and she’s hurt real–real bad!” he cried as Kaede picked him up and raced as fast as her old bones would carry her.
“How bad is it, child?” she asked, stroking his head as they made their way to the hut.
“She–she’s dying! Mama’s dying!” he wailed helplessly.
Kaede rushed into the hut, putting down the kit and telling him that she needed some fresh stream water, and to hurry, and take Kirara with him so they could get back faster. “Inuyasha! Do ye know what happened?” she asked quickly, needing more to know the nature of her wounds so she could better treat them.
Inuyasha just nodded, the tears choking his voice to a point that he just sobbed over her body. “J–just make her better, Kaede-sama.” He begged.
For privacy’s sake, Sango and Miroku stood outside the tent, Sango crying helplessly as she clung to Miroku. “Shh, Sango, Kaede will fix her right up.” He said, for once keeping his one track mind somewhere other than the gutter.
Inside, Inuyasha held Kagome’s hand, kissing her fingers uncharacteristically. “Inuyasha, I know ye are having a hard time with this, but I need to know what happened, it will better help me to care for Kagome.” She said.
“She–she was kidnapped the other night by some shape-shifting youkai who had run off every creature in the forest, and–and he could mask his scent… he was so fast I couldn’t even keep him in earshot. He–he raped Kagome!” Inuyasha spat angrily, thinking again that maybe he should’ve taken more time in killing the bastard.
“Aye, I see.” She said as she got quickly to her work, gathering herbs and bandages. Shippo came back and she began to clean Kagome’s wounds, and Inuyasha shooed Shippo out of the room, telling him that he didn’t need to see his mother like that. Kaede had Inuyasha cleanse the smaller wounds on her abdomen, while she settled for stitching other ones that she feared Kagome wouldn’t really appreciate Inuyasha touching. “We’re almost done, but there’s no guarantee that I can save her. She’s lost a lot of blood, but thank Kami for the fact that Kagome taught me about stitches when she did, or we’d be in trouble. Now, put this herb in her mouth, and make her chew it. It will force her body to generate blood, and once you’ve done that, I think ye need to go while I clean some of the more sensitive wounds on her.” Kaede said, shooing Inuyasha from the hut, and sitting down before Kagome, opening her thighs and looking at the damage the beast had done to her. She was torn, for lack of a better word, in multiple places, and Kaede got to work stitching the multiple wounds after cleansing them, hoping that Inuyasha had in fact tortured the bastard at least a little before killing him. She used sanitized silk thread and was sure to stop all of Kagome’s bleeding before covering her up and letting everyone back in, except for Inuyasha, who she kept outside to ask, “Did ye kill him, boy?”
“Are you kidding, I ripped his dick off!” Inuyasha said, “Then I killed him.”
Kaede looked shocked for the briefest of moments and smiled knowingly, “Good.” Was all she said before she walked back to her herb garden, yelling over her shoulder, “You may go in and see her if ye like!”
Inuyasha rushed in, kneeling by her side, and stroking her hair gently. “Kagome, I’m sorry I let this happen to you.” He said as he grasped her hand and held it to his face. “I should’ve let you wake the others, maybe then we could’ve stopped this from happening.” He said, the tears streaming down his face again, his helpless feelings growing with every shallow breath Kagome took. “Dammit! Kagome, I’m so sorry! I swore that I would protect you and I didn’t! This is all my fault!” he said, laying his head on her chest, his ears twitching with her strengthening heartbeat. “I’m a pathetic protector, and a really bad friend.” He whispered into her chest.
Kagome groaned as she slept, seeing Inuyasha’s face floating above her, he was–he was hurting her… “You’re not Inuyasha!” she thought, the fear blowing through her, Inuyasha would never hurt me… not like this! She was tied up again, “Stop it!” she cried, “Get off of me, please.” She begged as she felt the tearing. Oh, Kami, Inuyasha hurry!”
“Get off of her!” he cried, attacking with his claws rather than with Tetsusaiga. “I’LL KILL YOU! YOU BASTARD!”
“INUYASHA!” she screamed as he tore the youkai apart. “I’m sorry! I couldn’t stop him!”
She sat up, the pain in her body making it very hard to do so. She put her head in her hands, crying brokenly, “It wasn’t a dream!” she whispered into her hands, trying not to scream in the anguish her attacker had put her in, suddenly, there were a pair of warm arms wrapped around her protectively. She looked up to see Inuyasha’s amber gaze locking with hers, and she buried herself in his arms, sobbing uncontrollably, muttering that she was sorry and a few other garbled things that Inuyasha couldn’t understand.
“It’s not your fault.” He whispered into her ear, snuggling close to her, relieved to realize that she was finally awake, and out of the woods, so to speak. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t fast enough to save you from any of this experience in the first place.”
“I was so scared, and–oh, Kami! It hurt!” she sobbed as Inuyasha held her, pulling her tightly to his chest, whispering, “It’s over, Kagome, he’s dead, and if he’s not, he has no dick.”
“You did what most people want to do to rapists?” she asked, for once feeling glad that Inuyasha had actually killed one of their enemies. “For me?” she asked tearfully.
“I made sure he wouldn’t ever be able to use it again.” Inuyasha said, cradling her in his arms like a child. “Kagome, I’m so sorry. For a while there, I thought I’d lost you.” He whispered, kissing her hair instinctually. “I should’ve just gone by myself.” He said as she continued to cry into his chest.
“I didn’t cry in front of him.” She whispered randomly, “I wouldn’t let him see me cry.” She finished.
“He was a monster, and I guess that it’s a good thing that he’s dead with no name as far as we’re concerned.” He answered, “You don’t have to be tough anymore, I understand.” He said as he stroked her hair.
“He–he didn’t… finish did he?” she asked suddenly.
“I don’t think he did.” Inuyasha said.
“That’s good, I guess.” She said as she finally began to calm down.
“I guess that’s one less thing to worry about with this thing.” He whispered, feeling broken for the first time in years.
“I–I love you Inuyasha!” she suddenly said as she clutched him as if he were the only thing holding her to life.
He was so shocked at her outburst that he was speechless for a minute, and then he kissed her forehead. “I love you, too, Kagome. I’m so sorry this happened to you.” He whispered, “I should’ve held on longer. I should’ve–I don’t know, I should’ve– I …”
Kagome placed her finger on his lips, “I don’t blame anyone but that youkai for what happened to me.” She whispered, “I especially don’t blame you.”
“But… if I’d been faster– I could’ve kept any of this from happening.” He said.
“I don’t blame you!” she said, frustrated. “If I blame anyone other than that sick bastard, it’s me for wearing those damn school uniforms around here.” She finished in barely a whisper.
