Excerpt from story:
He knew Kagome had heard about the promise, but left soon after. He banged his fists on the edge of the well, a few tears wetting the old wood. /Damn it Kagome, don't you know I love you?/ IYKA R&R please!!!
Disclaimer: We don't own InuYasha because that would be pretty damn impossible so lets leave it at that. No sue us. The maroon 5 song tangled not owned by us.
A longing gaze stared up at the moon. Cold brown eyes glazed over with unshed tears. She had seen them. Seen them in such close proximity that she also heard their conversation. The words tore through her heart and she finally allowed the tears the fall, the wind brushing her hair to hide her face.
/"Kikyo, why have you come here? After all you've done..." InuYasha was staring at the ground, fists at his sides.
"I wasn't about to allow that reincarnation of mine stop you from fulfilling your promise to me." Kikyo spat. She despised Kagome and wouldn't allow her to get her man.
"What promise?" InuYasha sounded confused, but his eyes were still hard with anger.
"You promised to come back to hell with me, remember?" She was smiling. The woman was crazed, and yet not even alive.
Inu Yasha stared at her, but Kagome ran. She did not want to hear the rest. How could he have promised her that?/
The wind's direction changed, revealing a pained expression on the school girls face. There was determination laced with hate seen in her eyes. A hate so strong that even her aura was bleeding with the dark emotion.
She wanted to leave this era that reminded her so much of him and the pain he caused her. A part of her wanted to believe that it was all a lie and another part, the part deep down knew that it was true. Her tears stopped falling down her pale cheeks as she reached the well. If she glanced back she might stay and if she did she would be hurt even more. She didn't think it was possible to feel more pain then she did already. Her heart ached but she didn't want to give into the hurt she wanted to be free of it all.
She could sense his aura coming near her, no doubt he would try to explain to her, try to beg for forgiveness but she didn't want to hear it. She planted her hands on the edge of the well and swung her legs over. She hands let go and she fell into the well.
She knew there was a good change that Inu Yasha too would attempt to pass through the well, /I'll use some of Jii-chan's charms to hold him off for now.
She climbed up the ladder and headed out of the well house.

InuYasha stared at the well in frustration. Why? Why had he made that stupid promise? He knew Kagome had heard about the promise, but left soon after. He banged his fists on the edge of the well, a few tears wetting the old wood. /Damn it Kagome, don't you know I love you?/
With that thought, he leapt into the well, hoping against hopes that he got to the other side with ease, but noticed Kagome had placed some of her Jii-chan's charms on the well to try and keep him out. /Hasn't she realized that last time those were put on the well they didn't work?/ InuYasha shook his head, and allowed a small grin to form on his face.

She slowly closed the door to her room. When she came into the house her Okaa-san had asked why she had come back to early but she just played it off that she came back for test.
Her mother was suspicious, she could tell that something was different about her daughter. Some thing that happened in the Feudal Era had changed something in side of her, something her mother was afraid of.
She didn't want to feel anymore, it was plain and simple she didn't want to experience the pain. She couldn't believe that she had planed this, the things she had collected together. Here she was sitting on the bathroom floor, her back resting against the tub.
She didn't know when she had exactly broken the mirror above the sink; it was like time was moving faster and slower at the same time. She gripped the glass shard in her right hand. The sharp edges cutting her fragile skin, a pool of blood forming in her hand.
She didn't know when it started but she could feel her hot tears roll down her cheeks. Her face was wet and tear streaked and she didn't really care. With her left sleeve she wiped away the tears, she wasn't going to cry anymore, she wasn't going to cry.
She studied her right hand, she thought it should be hurting but it wasn't she wasn't feeling the pain.
She griped it tighter as she got self ready, not only physically but mentally. She had time to think it over. She knew it as soon as she walked into the house
"Momma?" She called out into the kitchen.
"In here Kagome," her mother was standing over the oven cooking what Kagome guessed was dinner. She noticed her daughter's not so good mood, motherly instincts that's what their there for. "What wrong hunny?"
She wasn't going to tell her mother what was wrong or what she was going to do. "Nothing I'm just a little tired from my trip." Then she hugged her mother, tightly this was going to be the last time she would do this, "I love you mom."
Her mother smiled at her and tightened the hug, "I love you two sweetie, why don't you go lie down and I'll call you when dinner is ready."
"Alright mom," she walked away, the last time she did.

Inu Yasha walked over to the sacred well. /Why? Why did I.../ His eyes were downcast and his shoulders were slumped. His thoughts were swirling through his mind so fast he didn't have a chance to make sense of them. /Kagome.../
~I'm full of regret
For all the things that I have done and said
And I don't know if it'll ever be ok to show
My face 'round here
Sometimes I wonder if I disappear...~
He moved his hands over the cool wood sadly, hypnotically. He was lost in a trance which consisted of thoughts of Kagome.
~Would you ever turn your head and look
See if I'm gone
Cause I fear...~
He banged his fists and let out a pained cry. He hadn't meant to hurt her. Never. Didn't she understand what she did to him? What she made him feel? He was so very afraid of losing her.
~There is nothing left to say to you
That you wanna hear
That you wanna know
I think I should go
The thinks I've done are way too shameful...~
InuYasha looked straight ahead and wiped the tears that threatened to fall from his eyes. /I won't be weak. I have to stay strong./ But what would he do? He could always just go with Kikyo. Maybe then it would hurt Kagome less. Maybe she could be happy if he wasn't there always screwing things up.
~You're just an innocent
A helpless victim of a spider's web
And I'm an insect
Going after anything that I can get
So you'd better turn your head and run
And don't look back
Cause I fear...~
He took a step away from the well. His mind agreed with his actions, but his heart did not. He was stuck. What was the best thing to do? He shook his head and took another step back. Then another, and another.
~There is nothing left to say
To you
That you wanna hear
That you wanna know
I think I should go
The things I've done are way too shameful...~
And as InuYasha took his final look at the well that his beloved stood on the other side of, he memorized her face. He may not ever see her again.
~And I have done you so wrong
Treated you bad
Strung you along
Oh shame on myself
I don't know how I got so tangled up.~

Kagome tried she wanted to, the coppery blood in her right hand dripped onto the cold tile floor. This was her third attempt tonight but each time she stopped. She hated that she couldn't just do it, couldn't just slit her wrists and make the blood flow to the ground. She was weak and she knew it. She threw the shard across the room, shattering it on impact against the wall.
If she couldn't do it this way she would find another. She stood up on shaky feet using her left hand on the bathtub to keep herself steady. Maybe she had lost more blood than she thought. She stumbled over to the sink; she leaned against it and looked at the medicine cabinet. She glanced at herself in the mirror, her face running with tears, her hair disheveled. She opened it, looked at the pills in there, mostly it was common drugs that you could find in your average household. She grabbed the Advil, Tylenol and some other no name band drugs and opened the caps.
She didn't know how many she had, which types they were, but they would be easy and fast and it would be swift and she wouldn't have to feel the pain.
She turned on the tap and splashed her face with water, this time she would do it.
* * * * *
Inu Yasha couldn't help it, he had reached the other side but he had to, he had to turn back. His mind was telling him that he had to stop her pain by leaving and his heart was screaming for him to go stop her pain by comforting her. He leapt back down, her didn't care he listened to what his heart said.
He jumped out of the well and ran towards the house. He leapt to the tree near her window, he could smell salt water, she was crying and he was the cause of it.
He landed on the floor with a thud, not to loud but loud enough for his sensitive ears to pick up. She wasn't in her room but she was near by, he would smell pain coming off her in waves. The bathroom, she must be in the bathroom.
"Kagome?" He didn't comprehend what he was seeing right now. He had opened the door to see Kagome lying slumped on the floor leaning against the `bath tub'.
Her face was wet with tears, her forehead full of perspiration dripping down. He breaths were sharp and rugged and her chest was heaving. He could smell her blood and he rushed to her side.
"Kagome? What's going on?" Her eyes looked at him with recognition, she couldn't speak her chest continued to heave. He looked at her right hand and the blood flowing from it. He cut off a piece of his inner hotari and wrapped it around her hand.
"Inu Yasha..." She tired to speak to him, her eyes watched his every movement. "Gomen," she was trying to apologize, trying to tell him that she was sorry. "I'm so sorry Inu Yasha..." Then her chest stopped moving up and down.
Her eyes stayed open, looking at him coldly and dead. Her soulful eyes were now empty. "Kagome? Kagome!" He couldn't hear her heart beating. He grabbed her and pulled her in to his arms. She was limp to his touch.
"Kagome..." He rocked back and forth with her in his arms. She was dead; Kagome was lying dead in his arms. He let it all out and he broke down and cried, clutching her body to his chest.
A hand softly grazed his back instantly causing him to stiffen. "Well would you look at that, finally my reincarnation dead." Kikyou smiled and knelt down next to Inu Yasha. "I couldn't imagine a better death for her, killing herself because of our love, how poetic."
He glared at her, realizing for the first time that he was no longer in Kagome's bathroom, but some dark dankly room. "Don't say that," he voice was quiet and full of anger.
She continued to smile, "well its true my love," he cringed at the word love. "Even ask her yourself."
He looked down at Kagome's body, she turned and looked at him, "I have to agree with Kikyou, if you didn't promise to go with her to hell I wouldn't be dead right now."
He stuttered, "Kagome?" How could she be dead a second ago and very much alive in his arms right now. "You're alive."
Kagome glanced over at Kikyo and smirked, "he was never a smart one was he?" She looked back at Inu Yasha, "I'm not alive if that is what your wondering, I'm still dead, but I'm here to..." she thought, "how should I put this make your life a living hell."
Kikyo fully wrapped her arms around him, "were not real, just figments that were created to make you regret everything you did."
He didn't understand what was going on. They weren't real, just figments none of it was real. "Where? Where am I?"
Kikyo raked her nails across his cheek, "why hell of course you silly half bread."
InuYasha's body grew numb. How was it that he could feel so cold if he was in hell? He could see the flames burning brightly around them and even as they whipped up against his skin he felt nothing. He was empty. He had caused Kagome's death. He was so ashamed of himself. /Kagome, I'm so sorry./
Kikyo pulled on InuYasha's hand and made him follow her. Kagome began to trail behind, or what was supposed to be Kagome, but Kikyo stopped her and whispered harshly, "You've done your job. Leave." A spark went through both of their eyes quickly, but disappeared before InuYasha could notice anything.
Laughter filled the next room they entered. An evil, chilling laugh. All the rooms looked the same. Dark and gloomy, The damp air only fed the fire and the flames seemed to grow bigger with each passing minute. InuYasha looked down at his feet, feeling extremely uncomfortable. He could feel eyes watching him, but could see no one. He wasn't even able to smell the presence of another. He shivered lightly and Kikyo turned to face him.
Her eyes were a reddish colour, filled with hate and they were cold. He tried to search her eyes for anything that seemed familiar, but saw nothing. This wasn't Kikyo otherwise her eyes would not be empty. Then his chest constricted and his head pounded. His silver hair fell into his eyes and he held a clawed hand to his chest. He could hear /her/ sobbing. He could feel /her/ pain. He'd done this to her. He was making her sad. It was his entire fault, and going away hadn't helped at all.
"Your feeling it aren't you?" The fake Kikyo asked him, her back towards him. "Feeling what you made her feel," she walked over to him slowly.
He felt his chest get hot but it didn't matter the only pain that mattered was coming from Kagome.
Kikyo grabbed his chin violently with her hand. She sneered at him, "it hurts doesn't it Inu Yasha," she smirked at his pain.
Before his eyes she changed into a different person. His mother's eyes stared into his golden ones. "Inu Yasha my poor boy," she stroked her hand over his cheek wiping away stray tears.
He looked at her confused, "okaa?"
She comforted him, "shush baby everything is going to be all right."
He knew that she wasn't real, but he knew the pain was, "you're not her, stop trying to act like her," he addressed it with hate.
"Why would you say something like that to your mother?"
"You're not my mother," he voice rose, no one pretended to be his mother, no one.
"Well I guess then there is nothing left to say then," she took her hand and rammed it through his chest. He screamed in pain to say the least he wasn't expecting that. He left her grab hold of something inside of him. She quickly pulled her arm out in her hands his still beating heart.
* * * * *
Kagome jolted awake on her bed. Sweat was running down her forehead. Her breath was ragged; she brought her hand up to her heart it felt like it was ripped out of her body.
She steadied her breathing at glanced at her clock 3:00am, she hadn't gotten that much sleep only an hour or so. She hadn't been able to sleep she hadn't slept in days. It was really taking a toll on her body but she knew that this was different. Like it wasn't her own pain it was some one else's, Inu Yasha her mind drifted to him. It had been 5 days, 5 days since he had been dragged into hell. Five days since the only man she ever loved was taken away from her. Five days since Kikyo came and made Inu Yasha fulfill his promise he made to her. 5 stupid days since he fought to stay and failed. It was 5 days since she knew in her heart that she would miss him and never love another like him.
Kagome felt tears swell up in the corners of her eyes. She instantly wiped them away with her sleeve. She remembered everything so clearly and she was sure she would never forget.
/Inu Yasha walked along side of Kagome, Miroku and Sango behind them, some thing caught his attention. Kagome already knew it was Kikyo, she could feel it.
"Inu Yasha what is it?" Miroku had noticed the sudden change in Inu Yasha as well.
"Nothing," he said his foul mood evident.
Kagome's eyes turned downwards and InuYasha pulled her close, shocking Miroku and Sango. They stopped walking and waited for the unwanted visitor to appear. Once Miroku and Sango saw who it was they put on angered expressions, much like InuYasha's.
"Hello, InuYasha. I have come to tell you that I've decided now is the best time for you to fulfill your promise." Kagome's head shot up. InuYasha noted the change in her scent and held her tight to his side for comfort.
"I will never go with you, Kikyo." He was growling at her and subconsciously had let his hand slip to Tetsusaiga. Miroku held on to his prayer beads and Sango got ready to use her boomerang.
Kikyo's face bore a smirk and she took out some prayer beads. "Come now, InuYasha. Put this on." Kagome was so angered she stomped up to Kikyo before InuYasha could even move.
"He said he wasn't going with you. Don't try to trick us." She spat in the miko's face. "Go back to hell." Kagome wasn't willing to let this talking clump of clay take her man away.
Kikyo's face grew red in rage and she smacked Kagome across the face.
Kagome touched her tender cheek, she could hear Inu Yasha growl behind her. He tried to advance forward but what Kikyo did stopped him. She grabbed Kagome around the middle and held a knife to her throat. "I wouldn't move if I were you, you come one step closer and I slit her throat like a little pig."
He stopped his movement but his menacing growls grew louder, "that's a good boy." She smirked; Kagome struggled to get out of her grip.
"Now Inu Yasha you will come will me to hell and my reincarnation will not die," She held the knife closer slightly cutting Kagome. He caught a whiff of her blood, his eyes burned with anger, he didn't want Kagome to get hurt. "Do you understand?"
He knew he had to do it, he didn't want Kagome to get hurt, which would mean that he would fail his promise to always protect her. He...he…lo..lov...loved her, he knew that he always had, he had never admitted it to himself. After Kikyo he didn't want to get hurt again, he didn't want anyone to get in his heart. He knew now what he had to do, "If I go with you to hell you will let her live," he didn't ask he told.
Kagome couldn't believe what she was hearing, "No Inu Yasha! Don't go with..." Kikyo's hand covered her mouth. Kagome's yells were muffled.
Kagome, getting angrier by the second, bit down hard on Kikyo's hand and ran to InuYasha. She held on to his haori and looked menacingly at Kikyo. "Well, now that InuYasha no longer has a reason to come with you, I would suggest you leave, Miko." Miroku said coldly. Sango looked at him surprised as he fiddled with his prayer beads.
"I will get what I want!" Kikyo yelled and she ran towards InuYasha. "You'll come with me!"
InuYasha moved Kagome behind him and pulled out Tetsusaiga. "Leave me alone!" He shouted as he moved to slice her in half. She was too quick, though, and he missed. Vines appeared out of nowhere and surrounded the group, finding their way around InuYasha's hands and feet. "What the-"
"No! InuYasha!" Kagome ran to grab for him as a black hole appeared beneath his feet. Tears stained her cheeks and her legs were shaking violently. InuYasha fought blindly to release himself of his binds. Every time he broke one, another would take its place. He finally realized he had no chance of getting out of this.
"I promise I'll come back to you." /I... I love you Kagome.../ The last thing Kagome would see of him was a face filled with great loss. A loss of the life he never was given the chance to have./
Kagome felt the tears on her face, 'InuYasha I wish I could have told you how I feel'. She hated it, hated that there was nothing she could do, maybe she could have. He had run it over and over again in her mind a million times, trying to think of ways she could have helped him, could have saved him.
She hated that she was here crying and he was some where in hell getting who knows what kind of torture. No she wouldn't have that, she was getting him back, he promised and he wasn't going to break that promise.
She quickly grabbed her things and got ready, it was early in the morning she wouldn't get to say good bye to her mother. She walked into her room and kissed her on her forehead and placed her note beside her mother. "Bye mom," she had quietly, she didn't know if she would be coming back.
She reached the well house and jumped down the well, the familiar warmth surrounded her she hadn't been in the Feudal Era for 5 days. It was dark, the starry night painted the skies. She should have thought this over more clearly. It was late at night and she didn't have any means of protection any random demon could come and attack her.
She grabbed hold of the vines on the side of the well and pulled climbed up the side. It took her longer than usual since her big yellow bag was jammed pack with more items. She took in a breath of fresh air and headed towards Keade's hut. She hoped the others were still there or in the village for a matter of fact. She didn't know if they would have stayed, the jewel still wasn't complete, it was still in the deadly grasp of Naraku. With Inu Yasha gone she knew it would be impossible to defeat him, but that wasn't why she wanted him back, no she knew the other reason.
The cool summer night chilled her as she made her way through InuYasha's forest. It didn't take her long to reach her destination unharmed. When she arrived at the hut she was greeted with warm welcome from her friends. They knew the kind of pain that she was going through, quite similar to their own.
"Kagome-chan, how are you feeling?" Sango asked sadly, while Shippo jumped up to hug her.
"I... I'm doing better." Kagome lied, but they all knew it was impossible to get over such a tragedy so quickly.
"I'm guessing that you've decided to go." It was more of a statement than a question. Miroku always seemed to know what someone was thinking and never failed to amaze Kagome.
Sango and Shippo were left confused. "Go where?" They both asked naively. Miroku shook his head and answered quietly.
"To hell, where else?" He sighed and put a hand on Kagome's shoulder. "We can go with you, if you wish." Sango and Shippo still looked confused, and Kagome kept her head down.
Miroku wasn't in the mood to explain, but he quickly answered their unasked questions. "We are going to save InuYasha."
*****
The chill night wind gently blew through his silver tresses. Inu Yasha groaned as he slowly pulled himself off the ground. He was lying face flat on the soft grass. He distastefully went to pull the grass out from his hair, in doing so a pang of pain traveled through his left arm.
That was weird, he didn't remember being injured. In fact he didn't really remember anything. He sat up painfully, and inspected his arm. He winced as he touched his tender flesh.
It was fresh; he could smell the blood. There must have been a fight, but it wasn't like him to pass out.
He studied his surroundings something seemed...off. The area he was sitting in didn't seem like the remains of a battle. There was no trace of a fight what so ever.
If he was here, than where were the others? Were they alright? Was Kagome alright? A million thoughts rushed through his brain at that moment.
Using what strength he had left and Tetsagia for support he lifted himself up.
He tried to walk but it was extremely uncomfortable. Some of his ribs were broken or fractured proving to be really painful. Still, despite the pain he needed to see if his friends were baring better than he was.
He heard voices coming from behind the trees in front of him. He instantly recognized who it was, Kagome.
He quickened his pace, not caring about the pain in his arm and stomach. Finding out if Kagome was alright was his main priority. He made it through the bushes to see her sitting in front of a small cooking fire. She wasn't alone; some one else was there. He growled deep in his throat. "Kagome, what are you doing with that wimpy wolf?"
Kagome turned around and faced him she seemed surprised. "InuYasha, what are you doing here?" There was a sad expression on her face.
He growled as he realized how close Kouga was sitting next to her. "What do you mean 'what am I doing here' wench! Why do you think I'm here?"
Her expression darkened and she lowered her eyes to the ground. "Shouldn't you be with Kikyou, InuYasha. After all she is your mate."
'What? Kikyou is my mate? But how, when?'. Kouga glared at him and placed a protective arm around Kagome's waist. "I think you better leave dog turd. I'm not going to hurt you for Kagome's sake. I know she wouldn't forgive me if I did."
InuYasha's mouth became dry. This wave of shock washed over him. He would never leave Kagome for Kikyou; he wouldn't, would he? "Kagome?" He choked out, a questioning look on his face.
She looked away from him, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes, "Please InuYasha, just go." She couldn't stand to be around him. The second time she said it much more softly, like a whisper that she knew he would hear, "just go."
He didn't know what to do. He wanted to go over and comfort her, to be there for her, to stop her suffering but he couldn't, she didn't want him to. His expression darkened and turned to one of sadness. He had no choice but to leave, it was what she wanted. He was causing her this hurt and he was making it worse by being here. His golden orbs fell on her once more. Her body slumped over; eyes down cast at the ground, salty tears flowing down her face.
He did this, he did this to her. He turned around, his back facing to her. As he left he could hear her muffled cries and Kouga's words to try to sooth her.
He walked and he didn't know for how long, the physical pain that he had didn't matter, he only felt the emotional wrenching pain in his heart.
He noticed that the night had some how turned to morning. Had he really been walking that long? He arrived at a hut in his forest, he was puzzled, and he had never seen this place before. There was something odd about it. Some thing had drawn him to it. "InuYasha?" A voice asked from behind.
He turned to see who it was, "Kikyo?"
A slight concern flashed across her face, and then it turned to a look of anger. "Where have you been?" She walked up towards him and slapped him across the face; "Do you have any idea of how long you have been gone?"
He stared at her, his face blank, "what?"
Apparently she didn't hear him, she continued to fume, "2 weeks InuYasha, you have been gone 2 weeks. And you didn't even have the courtesy to tell me that you were leaving."
"I...I don't remember..."
She laughed, "What kind of lame excuses is that? I am you wife and I at least deserve a reasonable excuses not some stupid, 'I don't remember'."
"Kikyo..."
"No don't you Kikyo me. Do you remember what was planned for last week InuYasha?"
He continued to let her talk, he had no clue about anything she was saying.
"You were supposed to wish on the shikion no tama, wish to turn human so we can be normal." She rudely spat, "but I guess that won't be happening anytime soon, since you have better things to do."
All this things she was saying weren't possible, he didn't want to become human, nor did he want to be a full demon. "Become human?"
She huffed and turned her back to him, "It doesn't matter anymore," Her eyes downcast, "I've found someone else InuYasha, someone I can have a normal life with."
First Kagome with Kouga, now Kikyo with someone else. "Who?" He asked quietly.
Her anger has subsided to a minor aggravation; "Does it really matter?"
"Yes it matters."
She looked back at him, "No it doesn't, nothing that I ever do matters to you InuYasha."
"Tell me," he demanded.
"A villager, I don't need to tell you who, just that we," she carefully thought out her words, "love each other."
He thought that it would hurt more, knowing that she had left him for someone else but it didn't. It hurt more because he had chosen her over Kagome, at his choice had caused her pain and suffering. He didn't notice her leave; he was so wrapped up in his own thoughts.
He needed to get out of here. He needed to find somewhere to go. He felt so rejected. The God tree was the only place he could think of Sanctuary.
As he approached the tree he noticed someone standing near it, their back facing him. "Sango?"
"InuYasha," she turned around, her face stained evident of tears, and a small bundle in her arms.
He stepped forward, "Sango, what's wrong?"
With her free hand she wiped away some stray tears, "Why did you do it InuYasha? Tell me why?" She questioned with harshness evident in her voice.
'Great,' he thought, 'what did I do this time?' "What are you talking about?"
"Why couldn't you protect him, he was your friend." More tears rolled down her cheek, "how could you do that, how could you let Miroku die?" She couldn't help it; she couldn't control her feelings. Tears began to flow down her face freely. She coaxed back a sob.
Miroku was dead? It hit him like a ton of bricks, "how?"
The child in her arms began to fuss at her mother's discomfort. "You promised me that when you left that you would take care of him, that you would bring him back safely to us." She looked down at her daughter's face. "You lied to me that day InuYasha. Miroku is never coming back and its all your fault." She walked towards him, her voice rising, "its your fault Miroku is dead! It's your fault that he won't come back to me," she sobbed again, "it's your fault he'll never get to see his little girl grow up."
He stepped back, he didn't want to hear this, and he couldn't hear this. First Kagome then Kikyo now Miroku dead. He couldn't take it. All of it was his fault; he was at fault for everything. He ran, just ran he didn't know where he was or where he was going he just kept on running.
* * * * *
Kagome awoke with a start. They had been travelling for awhile now, back to the place where InuYasha had been taken. They had stayed in a small village overnight, but Miroku and Kagome were unable to sleep long. Miroku could feel the negative energy surrounding the area and was staying awake to keep watch. Kagome, on the other hand, kept having strange dreams of InuYasha.
In each of the dreams she would watch as InuYasha's sanity slowly faded away and his greatest fears came true. She felt his pain and desperately wanted to help him. Something pulled at her heart and she knew he needed her.
"Miroku, we have to go now. He needs us." Kagome whispered to the monk. He was rubbing his eyes in an attempt to stay awake.
"Let me just wake Sango and Shippo, then we can go."
He grabbed his stuff and awoke the others. Soon they were off, but a figure lurking in the shadows was to make sure they didn't get far.
*Flashback*
A shadowed figure bowed down to a beautiful young woman. The woman's hands clasped a pulsing pendant.
"You must keep them away at all costs. If they reach him too soon, our world will be in more chaos than when Naraku still lived." The woman's voice was soft and quiet. The shadowed figure looked up and she stepped closer. "Take this pendant. You are to give this to Her when the time is right."
*End Flashback*
He watched as the houshi woke up taijai and the kitstune. They wouldn't notice his presence, not even with their abilities. He pulled his hood over his black tresses.
He studied the girl, the miko. He could feel the sadness emitting of her in forceful waves. She looked over in his direction, she wouldn't see him; the pain in her eyes flowed like a river into his soul. He knew what must be done, and that it needed to be done quickly. He saw them pack up their camp and start to head out. He would follow in the shadows, lurking, and his presence never to be seen or known. He was in the shadow, like always.

Kagome felt her mouth get dry, they had been walking for hours non-stop. She didn't care about her thirst or that fact that she was tired. She wouldn't rest, no she couldn't rest until she was with InuYasha again and he was safe. They were only hours away from the spot. She wanted to make it there before nightfall.
She knew that the others were tired, and that they most likely would want to stop for lunch. But they needed to understand; she needed to get InuYasha back.
Miroku watched Kagome as she walked in front of them. Her passe quick but not tiring. He couldn't imagine what she was thinking or feeling right now. He had his own feelings about it but they couldn't compare to hers, she...loved InuYasha. Of course Miroku thought of him like a brother or family, but the love that Kagome had for him went further than friendship or family.
"We should be there within a couple of hours," he informed the others directly but he knew Kagome could hear what he was saying.
The shadowed figure removed his hood and took a deep breath. /Just think of it as old times.../ He reassured himself that all would be well. After all, a spirit /did/ tell him to do this.
"Kagome!" Kouga stepped up to her and took her and in his. "It's good to see you!" The man in the shadows stopped. Maybe he wouldn't have to stall them...
"...As I dislike InuYasha, I'll help you."
The man swore under his breath as Kouga spoke. "Now it's going to be even harder to stop them." He moved swiftly out from the bushes and ended up behind the group. He coughed.
"Who are you?" Kouga asked, his eyes wide open. "How did you get here? I didn't smell anything coming..." He trailed off, looking toward Shippo.
"I didn't even smell you coming, Kouga. I'm tired." The kitsune yawned, as if to prove his point.
Kagome stepped closer to the man, despite Miroku's attempts to keep her away.
"Lady Kagome..." Miroku tried but she ignored him.
She felt like she had met him before, "tell me who you are"
He didn't answer her; he only advanced towards her. What ever his move was going to be it would have to be quick. With the wolf there it would be more difficult to distract them the way he had planned.
She didn't stop her questioning; she looked into his eyes for some kind of an answer. "Who are you?" She said quietly that human ears wouldn't hear.
"A friend," he responded he now stood right in front of her.
"Lady Kagome perhaps it would be best if you walked back over here," Miroku tried to convince her to come back where it was safe.
"I can help you," he spoke softly into her ear so only she could hear. His breath was hot on her neck. She knew him from somewhere but she couldn't remember.
"How?"
"You'll just have to trust me," he said cryptically. He stepped back to look her in he eyes. Some thing in them told Kagome that she needed to find out what he knew.
"What do I need to do?"
He offered out his hand, "come with me and I'll show you the way."
His voice and eyes hypnotized her; she had fallen into his trap exactly like he wanted her to. She looked at his outstretched hand. Slowly she placed her smaller hand in his.
He started to lead her away from the group. The others protesting, "Kagome? What are you doing?"
She ignored then, her eyes near looking away from this mysterious man.
"Kagome!" Kouga yelled, that bastard had some how tricked his Kagome to going with him. He tried to run after her but he bounced back like he had run into an imaginary force field. He tried again but the same thing happened. "Kagome!"
They screamed but she couldn't hear them.

InuYasha felt the early morning sun on his body. A warm smile landed on his lips as he remembered last night. His eyes fell on the girl in his arms. She was beautiful. Kagome was like an angel.
He buried his nose in the nook of her neck. He relished in her sent. She smelt so good, and now with her sent mixing with his, she smelled like she was 'his'. He stroked a claw lazily across her bear abdomen. The gentile movement caused her to stir slightly. She yawned, stretching her arms as much as InuYasha would allow her. She turned to face him and smiled. "Morning," she said sleep still in her voice.
He brushed her cheek with his hand, "Morning mate."
Her smiled brightened, "I think I'm starting to like the sound of that."
A sly grin crossed his face, "Hum, you think?" He mused.
He gently bushed his lips against hers, "Mumm..." she said through their kiss, "I definitely like the sound of it."
He pulled her into another kiss. Slowly they built up the passion. InuYasha slowly lowered her so that she was on her back and he was slightly above her. Her hands made their way into his hair. Instantly she found one of his ears and began to rub it causing him to groan. She giggled at the look on his face. He stopped what he was doing and looked at her with his puppy-dog face. "Kagome..." He breathed, but then he noticed something he didn't before.
"InuYasha?" Kagome sat up on her elbows wondering what had caused her mate's attention to drift. "What is it?"
"Hush," he quieted her, "quietly get you clothes on, we're surrounded."
She detached herself from him, and found her discarded clothes.
InuYasha sniffed; there must have been a hundred or more demons out side of their home. "Kagome stay inside, I'll be back in a minute."
She tried to protest, "but InuYasha..."
"Kagome," started harshly, then he looked at the worried expression on her face, and calmed his tone, "just promise me you'll stay inside."
She was worried; she didn't want him going out there by himself, "I promise..."
He looked at her like he wasn't satisfied enough with her answer, "I promise that I'll stay inside."
"I'll be back," he replied.
"InuYasha," she called stopping him, "promise me you'll be careful?"
"I promise." He turned to walk out again.
"InuYasha," she needed to get this out.
"What?"
"I love you," she told him.
He walked back quickly and pulled her into a short kiss, "I love you too."
InuYasha followed the scent of the weakest demons, hoping to take them out first. He unsheathed Tetsusaiga and let the wind scar get rid of them. The strongest demon wasn't even fazed. It slashed at InuYasha blindly, and managed to scar him deeply. /Why can't I fight back?/ InuYasha was frozen, unable to defend himself. His arms bled profusely and he could feel a slight trickle coming from his cheek.
"Kagome..." His voice was ragged and his body shaking. The demon pushed harder, and was able to remove Tetsusaiga from InuYasha's grasp. His eyes grew wide as the weight was lifted from his hands.
"Kagome!" He screamed as he felt his demon-side take over once more. He then silently cursed himself for screaming her name. /She'll probably come. I don't want her to see me like this./
His pupils dilated and his claws grew longer. He felt his fangs pierce his bottom lip and growled in frustration. He was losing control! The demon began to lessen the distance between them and InuYasha smirked. /Idiot./ Then a sudden pain was felt in his chest and he no longer felt his demon self. Thinking he must have somehow gotten hold of Tetsusaiga, he stood up straight. Then he noticed that he could see his demon self across the field. /What the...?/
He didn't understand how was this possible? He saw his demon self slay the demon that removed Tetsusaiga. His demon self relished in the pool of blood he had just caused in his demon opponent.
Then he saw her, standing at the doorway, a dazed and confused expression on her face. "InuYasha?"
Demon InuYasha looked over at her and smirked. His eyes glistening with a predatory look in them. He stalked towards her like a predator to his prey. "
/Kagome!/ InuYasha screamed but his voice couldn't be hear. He tried to move to save her but his body wouldn't will it. And now his other half was walking towards her, ready to kill.
Kagome knew she had to stop him, she saw Tetsusaiga near her on the ground. Maybe if she could make a run for it she could get it and give it back to him. He was getting closer, walking slowly as an aggravating torment. "INUYASHA SIT!" Demon InuYasha slammed face forward into the dirt.
She made a mad dash towards the sword that would bring him back to his normal self. She reached it and grabbed it with both hands. When she turned to face him he wasn't where she had left him.
"Tsk tsk Kagome," his voice sent shivers down her spine. It was so cold, so evil. "I wouldn't think about doing that if I were you."
She called out to know where, "We'll I'm not you now am I."
InuYasha tried to warn her, his legs still wouldn't move and his voice wouldn't make sound.
His demon self appeared behind her, slicing her with his claws. She dropped down in pain, Tetsusaiga about to slip from her grasp. "InuYasha..." she whimpered in pain.
/KAGOME!/ His screams could not be heard.
The demon laughed at her, "what did you think Kagome, that you could change he back?"
"But..."
He bent down and talked to her like a child, "What did you think you could call my name and it would be all better?" He smirked, "news flash hun, this is the way its going to be from now on."
He took his clawed finger and pulled up her chin so she was looking in his eyes.
/No this isn't happening. Kagome.../ His claws penetrated into his skin causing him to bleed.
Kagome tried to turn away but his demon self grabbed her chin sharply and snapped it back so that she was looking at him. She stared into his cold eyes that once held love and warmth.
"Now be a good bitch and play nice." He instructed, "we're going to have some fu..." He choked back his words. He looked at her in shock and then looked down at his stomach, Kagome and rammed the sword right through it.
"You little bitch," he spat distastefully. He pulled Tetsusaiga out of his middle and threw it across the battlefield. "You're going to pay for that missy." He grabbed her around the neck.
She couldn't breath she was choking. Her eyes pleaded for him to stop, to return to his former self. "Inu..."
/Kagome! No KAGOME!/ No this wasn't happening, she wasn't dying, he wasn't doing this to her. He wasn't hurting her. This was all just a really bad dream that he hadn't woken from. He was actually sleeping inside the hut wrapped around in the embrace of his mate. Not here witnessing himself murder her. It wasn't real it had to be fake. It was fake wasn't it?
"Inu..." Her last breath died on her lips, she looked at InuYasha. Her face lost its trace of life. Demon InuYasha gave a satisfied smiled and licked off her blood on his claws. He turned and looked at InuYasha and smirked. His demon self had been aware that InuYasha was watching him the entire time. He laughed at him, "oh is the silly little half breed going to cry. Or are you just sad that you weren't the one to get to kill her."
InuYasha felt a deep growl form in his chest. His other half walked towards him, "good night InuYasha."
Demon InuYasha slammed his fist into InuYasha's head. He tried to focus, but then it all went blank.
