Chapter 16

The Beginning of A War

Inuyasha and Kagome walked through the hallway of their bedroom. Before they got to their room Inuyasha stopped in front of a door. He knocked and waited for someone to answer.

"Who is it?" An elderly woman asked.

"Inuyasha." He answered.

"You owe me a good explanation. You never told me who the clothes were for..." The elderly woman stopped when she had opened the door and saw a woman who looked like her older sister with Inuyasha. "I take it the clothes were for her."

"Yeah, been too busy to explain things to you." Inuyasha said. "We have a couple of questions for you."

"She can come in and ask. You on the other hand must leave." The woman glared at him.

"But she doesn't leave my side." Inuyasha said. Before he could argue anymore the woman had grabbed Kagome and pulled her inside the room. "Kaede! You open this door right now!"

"Don't worry he can't get through." Kaede said. "I'm Kaede the castle's healer."

"Kagome." She replied.

"I take it you and Inuyasha are mated." Kaede said. She smiled when Kagome nodded with a blush on her cheeks. "Your powers are still active, your miko powers I mean."

"Hai." Kagome said.

"You are powerful indeed. Most girl's would've faded after mating a youkai, hanyou or full blooded." Kaede said. "From the rumors and information I've been told you'll want to know about the Shikon no Tama."

"If its not too much trouble." Kagome said. Kaede motioned for her to sit and she did. Kaede took a seat across from her.

"Well the Shikon no Tama disappeared fifty years ago with my elder sister. She took it with her into the afterlife hoping it could never be used. She was the Shikon no Tama's protector. Kikyo was defeated by a powerful youkai. Who it was no one knows. It seems the jewel has reappeared." Kaede said. "You are the reincarnation of my elder sister Kikyo. Inside, you hold the Shikon no Tama."

"What?" Kagome said in disbelief.

"You must not let the jewel fall into the hands of evil. The jewel's power can magnify whoever uses it up to ten times, youkai or human alike. It can grant wishes or give the owner power." Kaede said.

"What should I do Kaede-sama?" Kagome asked.

"Protect it and never let anyone touch it besides those you trust fully. If evil lays its hands on it the jewel will become tainted. You are the only one who can purify it. It must stay in your hands." Kaede said. "I hope I helped."

"You've helped out a lot Kaede-sama. Arigato." Kagome said. She stood and headed for the door.

"Let Inuyasha protect you. He will go to great lengths to make sure your safe. Tell him what I told you so he can help. Keep your powers under control. I assume you know how to use your powers." Kaede asked.

"Hai, I do. I'll be sure to tell Inuyasha." Kagome smiled. "Arigato for all your help."

"When this is all over you must come for tea." Kaede smiled.

"Hai, I'll be sure to come." Kagome smiled and left.

Inuyasha was standing outside the door. He hadn't been able to hear a thing. "What the hell happened in there?" He asked.

"Nothing, Kaede-sama just gave me some good information." Kagome said. She walked past him and towards their room. She stopped and turned around to look at him. "You want to know what she said right?"

Inuyasha quickly ran towards her. They headed to their room to talk.

"The Shikon no Tama?" Inuyasha said.

"Have you heard of it?" Kagome asked.

"Vaguely, I always dismissed it as a legend." Inuyasha said.

"Well its no legend." Kagome sighed.

"Don't worry, I'm here." Inuyasha said and kissed her forehead.

"Arigato." Kagome smiled.

The door to their room was thrown open and Miroku ran inside. "Inuyasha we have another problem!" Miroku yelled.

"What the hell have I told you about running in here?" Inuyasha growled.

"There's no time. You might want to come with me." Miroku said.

"Kagome you stay here. I'll be back." Inuyasha said. Before she could reply he was out the door. "What the hell is going on?"

"Naraku is at the front gates." Miroku said.

"HE'S WHAT?" Inuyasha yelled.

Once they were on the second story balcony where Sesshomaru had waited, they could see Naraku and some of his minions on the castle wall. "Ah so you show yourself." He narrowed his eyes at Inuyasha.

"What the hell do you want?" Inuyasha asked. Miroku and Sesshomaru were both beside him.

"You know what I want. You've taken something of great value from me and I want it back." Naraku said.

"Kagome is not a possession! She wasn't your to begin with. She came of her own free will." Inuyasha said.

"You have tricked her. I want her back." Naraku said. "I've already sent my threats."

"I don't care." Inuyasha said. "She's my mate."

"Naraku, your threats are nothing to us here. Do as you will, we will not back down." Sesshomaru said.

"Fine, the war will go on as planned." Naraku glared at them all. "Let us begin now shall we."

Naraku released a cloud of miasma blinding everyone. Once it disappeared Naraku's minions were on the castle's grounds instead of on the wall. Naraku remained on the wall. Inuyasha noticed that among his enemies Kagura was there. He still owed her for last time.

Sesshomaru called for a servant and he ran inside. "Tell everyone to evacuate. They know what to do. Get the fighters up here!" Sesshomaru yelled.

The servant nodded and ran out of the room. Sango then ran inside of the room. "What's going on?" She asked.

"Naraku is starting the war now!" Miroku yelled. "Get somewhere safe."

"No, I know how to fight." Sango said. The earlier noise made Sango grab Hiraikotsu and run into the room. She ran towards the guys and readied herself.

Both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru jumped down to the ground to fight better. Miroku and Sango looked at each before nodding and running out of the room. They ran outside of the castle to the fighting grounds.

"You're going to regret this." Naraku said. He stood back as his minions moved forward to attack.

"You'll be the only one to regret anything!" Inuyasha yelled. He pulled out his sword the tetsusaiga. It changed from a rusty chipped katana to a large fang shaped sword. With it he slashed the many youkai that ran towards him.

Sesshomaru did the same and drew out his weapon, Tokijin. He held it out in front of him and effortlessly slashed the lesser youkai. With the two of them working together none of the youkai were getting any closer to the castle.

Miroku and Sango finally joined in on the fighting. Miroku was using his staff and some Buddha spells. Sango was using her large boomerang to slice multiple youkai at once.

Naraku watched and saw how no one was getting anywhere with the fighting. "Kagura." He said.

"Hai, Naraku-sama." Kagura said.

"Why not stir things up a bit?"

"Hai." Kagura said. She jumped up into the air and swung her fan from side to side. The wind around them began to pick up violently.

The wind was blowing so hard. It was making it difficult to fight. Everyone tried to maintain their balance while trying to swing at their opponents.

"I owe you this Inuyasha." Kagura yelled over the wind. She swung her fan and blades came out towards Inuyasha and his friends.

"Watch out!" Inuyasha yelled. There was no way any of them could dodge the blades. All they could do was shield themselves.

After a while they all noticed nothing hit them. "What the hell is going on?" Inuyasha asked.

"Seems as if there's a barrier around us." Sesshomaru said.

They all looked around. A see through blue shield was shielding the four of them. "Who did this?" Sango asked.

"It does not matter at the moment. All we know is that we're being shielded." Sesshomaru said.

"So she shows herself as well." Naraku smiled. "Where could she be?"

"What?" Inuyasha said.

Suddenly above their heads they saw a blue arrow fly towards Naraku. He had no time to dodge as it pierced his chest. "Dammit!" He cursed. His body flashed and disappeared leaving only his head to float where he once stood. "Damn I forgot about your arrows!"

"Who in the hell is he talking to?" Inuyasha yelled.

Sesshomaru pointed behind them on the second floor. Kagome was standing on the balcony. She was glaring at Naraku.

"What the fuck Kagome? I told you to stay in the room!" Inuyasha yelled.

"I will retreat for now. Kagome you will be mine once more." Naraku said before he turned into a miasma cloud.

Inuyasha growled. Once all the youkai were gone Inuyasha jumped up to the balcony where Kagome stood. He was going to yell at her but was interrupted by Sesshomaru.

"Meet us in the library. As soon as I am sure everyone is alright then we can discuss these matters." Sesshomaru said. "Not a word until I get there."
