InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Treason's Emotion ❯ A False Reality ( Chapter 3 )
Chapter 3 - A False Reality
The tingling feeling of the sun rising was what woke Inuyasha so early that morning. He glanced first at the slowly lightening sky. It was a pale shade of pink, and there wasn't a cloud in sight.
`The storm. It's gone.' Inuyasha thought blankly. He watched as the sun crept over the quiet city, and raised a hand to touch the beams of early morning sunlight. He watched as his nails grew into claws, and the tips of his hair began to lighten. They glistened as the sun climbed, turning silver once again. Amber began to seep into Inuyasha's eyes until the dark had diminished. As he began to regain his senses, he was suddenly aware of all the noise downstairs. Apparently Kagome's family was home. He could hear the birds chirping merrily outside, the slow but steady drip of rain falling from the trees. The room suddenly seemed brighter and more alive. He could distinctly feel the sheets on Kagome's bed, the cool wall against his back, and the warmth radiating from Kagome's limp body in his lap.
`Kagome's in my lap!?' Inuyasha suddenly thought, blushing deeply.
"Oh Shit!" He yelled, jerking away from the young girl. She flopped down onto her bed without the support of Inuyasha, sighing as she turned away and gently hugged her pillow, still sleeping soundlessly. Inuyasha crouched down beside her bed, staring at her intently while taking in slow calming breaths.
`That's right! Last night, while I was human, we were both sitting here, watching the rain fall. Fuck, that was a bad storm. The thunder was so loud, the house shook. And Kagome was... scared of the thunder, so I... Shit! I was the one who pulled her closer to me. And then I... NO FUCKING WAY!? I kissed her!?!? She slept in my lap... Damn my human form! My emotions always go crazy on the moonless night.' Inuyasha frantically thought. He glanced over at Kagome's sleeping body once again, but turned away as he began to blush.
`Wait... my emotions always go crazy..? My emotions!? All of this was because I wanted it? I just wasn't afraid to do it because I was human, and my regular senses had gone wild...' Inuyasha thought, a slight wave of hysteria passing through his mind.
`I wanted Kagome...? I... want Kagome?' Eyes wide, he turned back to Kagome and took a step closer to her bed.
Yawning widely, Kagome rolled over to face the window. Her eyes flew open at the sudden memory of the previous night. Inuyasha's soft embrace, his soothing voice, his gentle kiss... She raised a hand to brush the sleep out of her eyes, and noticed Inuyasha crouching a few feet away from her bed, a curious expression on his face. She let out a slight scream and backed away to lean against the cool wall.
`Was it real? Did he mean it?' She thought to herself, blushing fiercely.
"Inuyasha?" She asked quietly as her mind raced.
`No... What do I do!? How can I explain what happened last night? What do I say?' Inuyasha hastily thought.
"Bitch! Don't fucking scream like that. Are you finally awake? I want to get back... We need to find more jewel shards!" Inuyasha said coldly. Unsure of how to act, he instinctively became defensive with the young miko, trying to hide his true thoughts and feelings. His harsh childhood had left scars deep inside, and he automatically shut himself from the world when the pressure became too intense.
`No... It can't be. Was it really nothing to him?' Kagome thought, a deep sadness growing in her heart. A lump rose in her throat, and she desperately tried to swallow it. Her mouth fell open slightly, and she fought with all her might to shove back the tears that were striving to flood her vision. She should be used to the way he talked to her, often calling her a bitch and talking down to her, but she thought that it might be different now. But being called a bitch wasn't what made her heart ache the most. It was the fact that Inuyasha didn't even acknowledge what had happened between them only hours before. Inuyasha turned away from her, an annoyed expression on his face, however it pained him to see the hurtful look on Kagome's face, the blankness in her eyes. But he was determined to keep her from knowing that he cared that she was upset.
`I must not waver...'
Kagome continued to stare at him, at the way the silver in his hair caught the sunlight, at the smoothness of his skin, the glistening of his eyes, and to Kagome's dismay, the irritated expression on his face.
"Right." Kagome whispered quietly, more to herself than to Inuyasha. She nodded once, and quickly turned to gather her supplies and pack them into her bag. She silently folded her clothing, placing everything neatly into her bag. She walked passed the hanyou and reached her desk, pulling open the drawers to collect her chemistry notes that she had attempted to study the night before. She stepped away from her desk and began to walk back to her bed when she noticed a faint shimmer. Small lights danced around the walls, and she turned curiously to find the source. Her eyes landed upon a vile containing an assortment of different sized jewel shards. The remnants of the Shikon no Tama. Inuyasha looked up, wondering why the room had suddenly gone so quite.
`It's so beautiful. The way it shines lightly, the way it catches the sunlight, and how you can feel it radiate its tremendous power. The Shikon no Tama. It's responsible for everything...' Her mind wandered. She could feel it; she could sense the jewel's presence. Inuyasha cleared his throat, bringing Kagome back to reality. She turned to him, eye's sparking from the bright sun.
"Inuyasha, last night- " Kagome stopped halfway through her sentence. She couldn't find words for what had happened the night before.
Inuyasha froze. Face hardened, and slightly pink from the sudden confrontation, he managed to stammer out,
"Last night... was a dream, Kagome. Forget it." His voice was forceful, intent on ending the conversation; however his heart filled with sadness as the words left his lips. Kagome's eyes went blank, and her expression turned to one of great sorrow. She bowed her head slightly, turning away from the hanyou and letting her hair slide forward to cover her face.
`No... It wasn't a dream! Don't say that... Don't tell me that! Can you not understand that it meant so much more to me? Why can't you feel the same? How can I forget the feel of your lips against mine? The warmth of your body against me? The kindness in your voice? No... No, no, no!'
"Hai..." She whispered, the sound barely escaping her lips. She closed her eyes so tightly... she wanted to block out the sunlight, so cheerful while all she could feel was sorrow and despair. She grabbed her bag and hastily walked out of her room, heading towards the well. Inuyasha only stared after her, the coldness he had been trying to display to Kagome left his body. He buried his head in his hands, frustrated with how he had acted. He looked up and glanced out the window, watching as Kagome ran towards the well; frantic to get away from the pain that Inuyasha was causing her. Inuyasha's heart sunk as he watched her disappear into the shine that enclosed the Bone Eaters well, shutting the door behind her. He scowled, abruptly open the window and leaping onto the edge as he muttered under his breath,
"I'm sorry Kagome... I didn't mean what I said to you..."
