Chapter 6 - Silence before the Storm

A/N: Alright! Well... I just finished this chapter. I am really happy with the way the story is turning out so far. I still have quite a long ways to go before it's finished, but that's okay! I enjoy writing for all of you. However, I would like some more reviews... Thanks to those of you who have reviewed already. Hmm! I know, I won't post the next chapter until I get at least 5 reviews, okay!? They have to be from different people, not the same person reviewing 5 times, LoL! You can ask me questions, tell me what you think of the story so far, or even give me suggestions! I don't have every single detail planned out yet, so if you have something good, I may be able to work it into the story!

Kagome backed away out of Inuyasha's embrace, tears still slowly streaming down her face.

"Are you alright? Can you move?" She asked, concern in her voice.

"I don't know. Maybe." Inuyasha attempted to stand, but he barely got into a sitting position before collapsing with immeasurable pain.

"Kirara? Could you carry Inuyasha please? We really should get back to Kaede's village. We can rest once we get there." Sango said. Kirara meowed softy and lied down beside Inuyasha so that he could roll onto her back. They soon set off; Sango and Miroku in the lead with Kagome walking beside Kirara and Inuyasha, Shippo perched on her shoulder. Kagome was handling the new jewel shards they had obtained from the bird youkai, eyeing them wearily. She grasped the vile around her neck, raising it to her face to study the contents carefully. The jewel shards in her hand were definitely darker than the ones in the vile, meaning that they had been tainted with evil. Sighing, she concentrated all of her strength on the shards in her hand, clamping her eyes closed tightly. Inuyasha watched her intently. She let out a soft gasp as she dropped to the ground, still clutching the shards tightly, now holding them to her chest. Everyone gasped and spun around to look at the young miko.

"Kagome!? Are you okay?" Miroku asked in alarm.

Kagome slowly pried her eyes apart, glancing down as she opened her hand containing the Shikon jewel shards. They now shone brightly, a pale pink colour, glistening in the sunlight. The dark swirling cloud that was visible before had now vanished, leaving the shards pure like the others enclosed in the vile around her neck.

"Just a bit tired. I needed to purify these shards, and I guess it took a lot out of me." She said, panting slightly.

"Maybe you should ride on Kirara too. That way you can rest and regain your strength." Sango offered to the young girl. Smiling, Kagome nodded her head and stood up slowly. Inuyasha was still staring intently at her.

"Shove over!" She said lightly as she pushed the hanyou to the side. She leapt up softly, sitting cross-legged on the cat demon and grasping her fur. Inuyasha only scowled at her before turning his head slightly and closing his eyes. Kagome frowned slightly, her brows furrowed before also turning away and looking ahead.

Hours passed and the group walked in silence. Miroku's hand wandered a couple times, earning him a loud smack from Sango. Shippo would laugh at the two as they quarreled, shaking his head slightly at the monk's stupidity. Kagome had fallen asleep on Kirara's back, Inuyasha also resting beside her as they continued on, heading towards the village. Kagome muttered in her sleep and rolled over closer to Inuyasha, snuggling against his warm body. Her movement quickly woke Inuyasha. He glanced at the girl so close beside him, a faint blush rising to his cheeks.

"Uh.. Kagome?" He whispered, not wanting to attract the attention of the others up ahead. He didn't want to be caught resting so close to the girl.

`This is kinda nice though... Wait! Get your mind out of the gutter, Inuyasha!' He thought to himself. He poked Kagome a couple times, whispering her name in her ear.

"Hn?" She asked, yawning widely and slowly opening her eyes. She glanced up at Inuyasha's face, inches away from hers.

"Agh!!" She let out a soft scream, sat up, and quickly pushed him away from her. Inuyasha toppled over, nearly falling from Kirara's back.

"Grrr! What'd you do that for!?" Inuyasha yelled angrily at her.

"You're the one who was so close to me when I woke up!"

"Well I didn't do it! I woke up like that too!" Inuyasha argued back.

"Well it's not MY fault!" Kagome persisted.

"But you were the one who rolled closer to me!" Inuyasha said to her.

"Nuh-uh!"

"Yuh-huh!"

"Nuh-uh!"

"Yuh-huh!"

"Nuh- Okay, stop! We'll just say it was an accident. Nobody's fault, alright?" Kagome asked sweetly. Inuyasha responded with an irritated "Keh!" before turning his head away. Kagome let out a sigh.

`Oh brother... He can be so childish sometimes.' Kagome thought. The group continued along the path, stopping regularly for food and washroom breaks. The sun slowly rose, beating down on the sweating travelers before beginning to set, turning the sky shades of pink and orange.

It was dusk before the group reached the village. Kaede greeted them all, beckoning them into her hut to rest and mend their injuries.

"I must visit another family tonight. They are located on the far side of the village and require care from being attacked by demons. I will be back at dawn. I presume you all can look after yourselves?" Kaede said, raising an eyebrow at Inuyasha to the latter statement.

"What!?" Inuyasha yelled at the look he received from the old woman. The others just sighed as Kaede walked out of the hut, the covering on the door swinging after her.

"Am I missing something!?" Inuyasha said, annoyed at the expressions on his companion's faces.

"Settle down, Inuyasha! Here. Take of your shirt so I can treat your wounds." Kagome said, trying to calm the agitated hanyou. A slightly shocked expression crossed Inuyasha's face at the bold demand from Kagome for him to remove his clothes. Blushing slightly, he slowly undid his haori. It softly fell to the floor in a heap, Inuyasha standing overtop of it; a faint pink staining his cheeks. Kagome stood there before him, her mouth slightly hanging open and her eyes wide as she admired the well-toned body in front of her. His chest was flawless; so strong, muscular, and smooth. She glanced at his well built arms. Swinging a huge sword around every day would obviously cause some muscle to form, but Kagome had never quite noticed exactly how gorgeous his body was.

"Ahem.." Inuyasha said impatiently, tapping his foot lightly and tilting his head forward slightly allowing his silky silver hair to fall forward over his chest.

"Oh right!" Kagome said quickly, blushing a deep crimson as she pulled her eyes away from the impressive man standing ahead of her.

`Wow... He's amazing! Oh... this is making me all flustered! Why did you stare like that, Kagome?' She scolded herself. She motioned for Inuyasha to sit down as she went to fetch some water. When she returned, the hanyou was facing away from her. She carefully kneeled down and began to clean the wounds on Inuyasha's back, gently rubbing her hands up and down his lean form. She brushed his hair away, letting it fall lightly through her fingers before continuing to cleanse his injuries.

"Alright, that's the back! Now onto the front..." Kagome said softly to Inuyasha. He turned around so that she would have access to then injuries on his chest, watching her face intently. She reached up to brush his hair back again, smoothing it to lay gently behind his head. Inuyasha raised his head slightly, straightening his postured to allow her more access to his body. Swallowing loudly, Kagome shakily raised one hand to his chest, rubbing gently to clean his wounds. She could feel his hard muscles beneath her hand as she lightly traced them with a finger. Inuyasha smirked when he saw that Kagome was blushing, and he began to let out a comforting growl. The soft grumble he emitted from his chest is what made Kagome slightly lose control. She inched closer to the hanyou as he leaned against hut, resting his head on the cool wall. She raised both of her hands and began to stroke his chest softly, feeling his form stiffen under her light touch. He leaned his head back slowly and closed his eyes as the seductive growl intensified. He could sense her becoming aroused; he could smell it. He leaned into her touch, bringing his body closer to hers as Kagome shuffled even closer to the hanyou sitting in front of her.

"Uh, Kagome? You don't seem to be rubbing any of Inuyasha's injuries...? Maybe you should open your eyes so that you can see where his wounds are?" Miroku's voice rang out through the hut. Inuyasha immediately stopped his growling and opened his eyes, looking at the monk and then at Kagome who was leaning so close to him only inches separated their bodies from touching. Kagome's eyes flew open and she jerked away from the hanyou, blushing furiously and glaring up at the monk. Miroku put on his most innocent look before smiling to them and walking back to Sango who was staring wide-eyed at the couple.

"Sorry..." Kagome muttered, cheeks still burning with embarrassment. She quickly stood up and walked outside, bowing her head low so that she could hide her face. She dumped out the bucket of water before falling to sit limply against the outside wall of the hut. She closed her eyes and rose her head to face the hot sun, taking in a deep breath and letting out a sigh.

`Oh my Gods! What was I doing back there!? I.. I just couldn't resist, and then when he started to growl I completely lost it! How embarrassing! Oh no, what must Inuyasha think of me now?' Kagome thought desperately to herself before opening her eyes and watching the last of the sun's rays fade behind a faraway mountain.

That night Sango prepared an excellent meal, and the group ate hungrily. When they were finished, everyone sat around a small fire that had been made inside Kaede's hut.

"I'm stuffed!" Shippo said lazily as he lied on Kagome's warm sleeping bag.

"Me too. That was excellent Sango. Well, I think I'm turning in for the night." Miroku said, letting out a loud yawn. The others nodded and all prepared to settle down for the night. Miroku settled himself in his usual manner, propped up slightly with his staff resting against his shoulder. Sango curled up on a soft assortment of mats and blankets, and Shippo rested his head lightly on Kirara's sleeping form. Inuyasha was sitting up of course, his head bowed slightly as tetsusaiga leaned against his shoulder. Kagome sighed as she lied down and covered herself with her warm sleeping bag, staring warmly at Inuyasha. Hours passed, and still Kagome lied there, staring intently at the sleeping hanyou, never taking her eyes off of him.

`That's it! I can't sleep! Perhaps a nice bath would help?' Kagome thought to herself as she silently stood up and crept out of the hut, headed towards the hot springs. Inuyasha opened his eyes and turned his head to stare after the young girl.

`Now where is she off to?' He thought as he stood to follow after Kagome. He leapt from tree to tree, not making a sound as he followed the miko to the hot springs. Landing silently on a large branch, he crouched down to watch Kagome. She quickly removed her clothing, setting it on the shore before carefully making her way into the water. The bottom of the spring was covered in painfully sharp rocks, and she had to take extreme caution to prevent herself from slipping and being gravely cut from them. Inuyasha clenched his hands tightly as he watched in anticipation as the girl slowly made her way over the rocks into deeper watch before dipping down and submerging her entire body. Inuyasha let out a soft sigh when she saw that she had safely made it across the rocks. He knew that if she had of fallen there, the stones would have sliced right through her fragile skin, severely wounding her. He leaned back against the trunk of the tree letting out another small sigh as he watched Kagome bathe and swim in the steaming water. When she stood up to wash herself, her entire upper body was exposed to the hidden hanyou.

`Holy shit! She's amazing...' Inuyasha thought as he gaped at the young girl below him. Kagome raised her hands to stretch, letting out a low yawn before reaching to her hair to tie it into a ponytail. Inuyasha could feel himself becoming aroused as he watched the young girl bath. He leaned forward to get a better look, breathing quickly and loosening his shirt from the intense heat his body was giving off. Finally she stood up fully and began to walk back to the shore to dry off. Inuyasha let out a small growl as he watched her wet form delicately step over the sharp rocks once again. It took to much energy to remain in control of his body and stop himself from jumping down and taking the girl right then and there.

`C'mon, Inuyasha! This is Kagome we're talking about!' The hanyou thought as he closed his eyes and began shaking his head, trying to get the image of Kagome's nude dripping wet form out of his head. However his eyes popped open when he heard a desperate scream from below. His eyes landed on Kagome. She had slipped on a stone and was falling, about to be cut open from the intensely sharp rocks that lay below her. Inuyasha saw it happen as if it was in slow motion. He leapt out of the tree and sprinted to Kagome, reaching her within seconds and wrapping his arms around her naked waist. He flung them both onto the shore, Inuyasha lying on top to the speechless girl, both breathing heavily. Kagome looked up to see Inuyasha's amber eyes inches away from her, and sudden warmth and comfort ran through her body. She closed her eyes gently, relinquishing in the feeling of Inuyasha's body pressed against hers.

`Wait.. His body against mine? I'M COMPLETELY NAKED!' Kagome thought desperately, her eyes popping open to glare at the hanyou.

"INUYASHA!? SIT BOY!" Kagome screamed. They both let out a loud "Umpf!" as Inuyasha's body came crashing down on Kagome's, squishing her even tighter against him.

"Great job, genius!" Inuyasha said loudly.

"What the heck are you doing here!? How long have you been watching me? In case you didn't notice, I am COMPLETELY naked! Get off of me!" Kagome yelled, blushing furiously and trying to get out from underneath the hanyou.

"I can't... You know that I am stuck here until the subduing spell wears off." Inuyasha said with a smirk. He was quite enjoying himself as he lay on top of Kagome's naked squirming form. He could feel himself becoming more and more aroused as he breathed in her fresh clean scent.

`Maybe I could play with this...' He thought, grinning inwardly.

"Oh, and yes. I did notice that you are completely naked." Inuyasha added, smirking arrogantly at Kagome before lowering his head to nuzzle it into her neck. Kagome was in complete shock. Her eyes were wide and her mouth was hanging open. She was lost for words.

`Oh my Gods! What is he doing?' Kagome thought to herself, her mind completely blank.

"Inu.. Inuyasha?" She managed to stutter out.

"Hn?" Inuyasha mumbled from her neck.

"What exactly are you doing?" She asked, her voice shaky.

"What does it look like?"

"Uh..." Kagome managed to say as her cheeks turned beet red.

"If you don't want me to, I'll stop." Inuyasha said, raising his head to look into the girls eyes.

"No, it's not that, it's just..."

"What?" Inuyasha questioned, letting out a seductive growl. Kagome could feel herself becoming hot. She tried to resist what her mind and body were saying to her, but she just couldn't.

"Nothing..." Kagome said, smiling slightly at the hanyou. Inuyasha broke into a huge grin and lowered his head to nuzzle Kagome's shoulder once again. Kagome let out a low moan as she reached for Inuyasha's head, running her fingers lightly through his hair and stroking his ears. Kagome could feel Inuyasha's chest vibrate against her body, his growling becoming stronger. Kagome gently shut her eyes as she felt Inuyasha begin to kiss her collarbone. He began to gently place soft kisses up her neck, slowly closing the distance between they're mouths. When Inuyasha finally reached her lips, he paused, looking curiously at the young girl beneath him. Closing his eyes, he slowly lowered his head and pressed a light kiss to her lips. Surprised at the sudden gesture, she pulled away slightly, looking up at Inuyasha with a confused expression.

`Why did I do that!? Don't pull away... I know I want this! I have wanted it for so long, to feel his lips against mine...'At that thought, she put her hand to his face and leaned in for another kiss. Relieved, Inuyasha tilted his head to hers and opened his mouth slightly. He enjoyed softness of her lips and began to slightly rub his tongue against her mouth, begging for entrance. Kagome eventually parted her lips slightly, allowing the hanyou access to her mouth. He gently flicked his tongue against hers, smiling faintly when she responded by swirling her own tongue around his. They played with each others mouths before Inuyasha pulled away, breathing heavily. He hovered over her nude form, taking in her perfectly shaped body. Smirking, he lowered his mouth to hers once more. He heatedly kissed her, devouring her mouth and flicking his tongue against hers. Kagome wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer to her body to grind against him. He could now distinctly smell her arousal and he could sense that she was becoming very wet. Pleased with her actions, Inuyasha lowered his hands to feel her delicate body. He rubbed his hands against her hips and across her stomach, then lightly up and down her back. He took pleasure in the way she lightly trembled at his touch, letting out soft moans against his lips. She reached up and began to slowly remove Inuyasha's haori, letting it fall around his stomach and revealing his well-sculpted chest. She gently ran her fingers over his toned body, please when he let out a sigh that turned into a low moan. Growling loudly, he huskily whispered her name into her ear.

"Kagome..."

Kagome clutched tightly onto Inuyasha's shoulders, pulling him down on top of her as she brought her mouth back to his while their hands began to wander.

"I truly hope I'm not interrupting anything." A cold voice rang out. The couple quickly pulled away and looked up to find the source of the voice. Both their eyes quickly came to rest upon a female figure standing at the other side of the hot spring, her eyes narrowed and an evil smile visible on her lips.

"Kikyou..." Inuyasha and Kagome muttered.
