Chapter 4

"Inuyasha?" the said hanyou looked up to the now shivering girl on the ground.

"Kagome, what are you doing here?" he jumped over to her and helped her up.

"I guess I can't ask you the same," he snorted at her comment. "Who were you talking to?"

"One of the most annoying..." he paused for a moment, "…spirits in the world. Kagome, meet Aki." He gestured towards the tree. She just stared at him blankly. "What are you staring at?!"

"Inuyasha, there's no one else here..." He turned back to Aki.

"What the hell is she talking about?"

'She can't see or hear me Inuyasha. That is why she must form some sort of connection with you. In order for you two to defeat this evil, she has to be able to break her seal, which I must help her do.'

"You keep talking about that damn seal. Well, she's here, so break it already," Inuyasha grunted.

'You are the most- Gahhh!' Aki sighed, 'Inuyasha she has to be able to see and hear me if I am to help her.'

"Inuyasha, are you alright?" Kagome snapped him out of his argument by placing her hand on his forehead.

He shook her hand off and stepped back, "What are you doing? Does it look like I have a fever?!" Kagome was taken aback by his gruffness.

"What do you expect me to do? You're the one talking to someone who's not even there!"

"There is someone else here. You just can't see her."

Kagome just looked at him and stepped back, "Um... Inuyasha? I've heard of children having imaginary playmates, but not adults. This imaginary woman... what kinds of things do you imagine exactly?"

Aki blushed, which looked quite strange on the white figure, 'Inuyasha, bring her over here before she makes any more assumptions about us. She might be able to sense my aura.'

"Hey wench, before you think up anything else perverted, come over here." He grabbed her hand and led her over to Goshinboku.

"Can you sense anything?"

"What am I sensing for exactly?"

"Just try to reach out with your aura and see if anything clashes against it."

"My aura?"

Inuyasha sighed, "That old man is supposed to be a priest?! He didn't teach you anything about reiki or youki?"

Kagome shook her head, "Nope, he just said if something gave you the willies, slap a sutra on it."

Inuyasha slapped a hand against his forehead, "You have got to be kidding me. All right, forget everything the old man told you. Your aura is the air surrounding you. You can sense other auras by searching for anything touching yours. Close your eyes and look for that."

Kagome did as he said and stood there for a few minutes. She opened her eyes and looked at the area Aki was standing, "I can sense someone else here. Sorry Aki-san."

Inuyasha looked at the same place Kagome was, "She doesn't take any offense. But she wants you to drop the honorific."

"Sorry Aki," Kagome closed her eyes again. "Inuyasha, I can sense something else."

He looked at her, puzzled, "What is it?"

"I can't explain it, but it's inside my aura. It feels both good and bad, like both sides are clashing against each other."

Inuyasha looked over at Aki. 'Her miko powers are awakening.'

"Kagome-chan!"

Kagome looked startled, "Oh no, Taiko-chan must be worried. Inuyasha, I have to go."

As she turned to leave, she realized she had no idea how to. "Hey Inuyasha; how do I get out of here?"

He walked up to her and led her away from the tree. "Geez, don't you know anything? You're not here physically, just spiritually. Imagine yourself back in your body and you'll go."

"Ok, but what about you? Can't you leave?"

His ears dropped a bit, "Kinda. I can somewhat leave spiritually, but not for very long." He sighed, "Look, you have to go. What I need to tell you will take some time for me to get out. Could you come back here later tonight?"

Inuyasha cringed inwardly, 'Great, the way I said it, it sounded like I was asking her out. What was I thinking?'

Kagome thought for a moment to think before she said, "Sure, it's a date. I guess I'll see you later then." Her form began to ripple before it disappeared.

'Inuyasha and Kagome, sitting near a tree, k-i-s-'

"Shut up would you? There's nothing between us."

'Then why did you just ask her out? You male dogs have got to learn how to slow down.'

"Keh. You're the one that wants us to kiss."

'Keh yourself. I told you before; you have to form a bond with her. The only kind I see appropriate for this situation is a romantic one. Frankly, I think five centuries is enough time for a guy to build up his courage to tell a girl his feelings.'

Inuyasha grunted and jumped up into the leafless branches of the tree.

Aki sighed, 'Why does he always run away from his emotions?'

Kagome opened her eyes to find Taiko and Yasuo above her with worried expressions on their faces. Relief spread across them as she sat up. Kagome placed a hand on her head to try to make her sudden headache subside.

"Thank goodness you're alright Kagome-chan."

"Man, what a headache," Kagome looked around to see that she was still under Goshinboku, "What happened?"

Taiko looked puzzled, "I don't know Kagome-chan. I was going to find you after this pervert," she pointed at Yasuo, "tried to feel me up."

Kagome turned to Yasuo, who had a red cheek and black eye, "What did I tell you about no funny business, monk?"

"Kagome-san, remember your head. You're hurt; you shouldn't be doing anything rash." Yasuo began to slowly back away for the steaming girl.

"I'll show you who's hurt! Get back here you pervert!!" Yasuo was now at a full run heading for the other end of the shrine.

"Kagome-chan, maybe you shouldn't move. I mean, you did just pass out."

Kagome smiled at her friend, "Don't worry, I just like to keep Yasuo-kun on his toes. I'll be fine, just a little dizziness."

"Are you sure? You could show me around later when you're up for it."

"And hang around the pervert? I don't think so. I'm fine Taiko-chan. C'mon, let's go."

"Ok, if you say so. Didn't you have to get something from your room though?"

Kagome paused, "Shoot, I do have to get that. Hold on, I'll be right back."

She ran into the house and up the stairs to her bedroom. On her wall was a map of the city of Tokyo. She took it down and ran back downstairs.

"Kagome, is that you?" her mothers voice came from the kitchen.

"Yeah mom," she detoured to the kitchen where her mother was already busy making dinner. "Hey, I might be a little late tonight. I'm going to show a new girl from school around the city a bit."

Her mother looked up, "So that's why you have your map with you?"

"You wouldn't mind if I gave it to her, would you? She came from Kyoto, so this would help her more than it would me."

"I don't mind. I'm glad you're starting to make new friends. Go and have fun, just try not to be too late."

"Thanks mom." Kagome left and went back outside. Surprisingly, her mom could be caring instead of pestering.

As she walked up to Taiko, the girl asked, "Could we stop and get something to eat? I'm starving." To prove her point, Taiko's stomach growled.

Kagome thought for a moment, "There's a WacDonald's not far from here, so how about that?" She began to lead Taiko towards the stairs.

"Yum, greasy beef and potatoes; if that's not the most unhealthy after-school snack, I don't know what is. Let's go."

The two girls descended to the street below, but unbeknownst to them, a pair of red eyes were watching them.

"Soon little miko, soon you will hand me what I desire…"
