Chapter 2: After effects

Silence settled on the group of demon slayers as they traveled on a deserted trail. It was an agonizing tension that filled the air, especially between a certain hanyou and anxious miko. They hadn't said one word to each other, since she had come back through the well. It was almost as if they had killed Hojo and just didn't want to talk about it.

Of course, that wasn't the case. Inuyasha had kissed the young girl and he felt horrible that he had lost control of himself. But she had smelled strongly of that boy and it had highly pissed him off. The true question was why did he get pissed off? Deep inside, his youkai was whispering that she was his and no-one else was ever allowed to touch her, much less kiss her. If he had his way, he would of went on a rampage and slain Hojo with his claws.

Luckily, he had more willpower than that, just as long as she didn't do it again. But what the hell was he thinking? If she was truly his, then none of this would be a problem. The Hojo boy wouldn't be a damn problem.

"Inuyasha!" Kagome yelled, bringing him out of his musings. She ran up to him, but not so much that she was in his personal space, and said, "Jewel shard. It's coming this way."

He nodded and immediately grabbed the hilt of Tetsusaiga tightly, half-noticing the others getting into battle stances. Except Shippo who hid in a transformed Kirara's fur. The tall evergreen trees swayed and branches crunched, as the youkai closed in on them.

A plump ape-like creature popped out of the brush, an ugly twisted arm holding a long sledgehammer. It whirled on the group, wide mouth opening to let out an inhuman scream, as it charged towards them.

Inuyasha leaped, drawing his father's fang and letting it transform before cutting through the air to try to strike the youkai. It moved quickly out of the way, side-stepping the attack, and lunging for Kagome, who drew an arrow and settled it in her bow. She pulled back the tight string and whispered a silent prayer, then let it go and watched as it sliced through it's arm, causing the hammer to drop to the ground.

The hanyou came up from behind and yelled for Kagome to get out of the way, before he let loose the "Wind Scar". The youkai only had time to turn around as the white wave crashed against it, sending bits of flesh flying everywhere.

Inuyasha smirked and sheathed the Tetsusaiga, then went over to Kagome to make sure she was okay. She huffed, standing up and pushing passed him, grumbling about monkey blood in her hair, then picking up the single shard to purify it. She placed it with the others in a small plastic container that connected to a string around her neck.

Sango came up to her, glancing at her friend's messy hair, and smiled, "Wanna take a bath?" Kagome nodded, grateful, and hopped onto Kirara with Sango, then taking off before Inuyasha had the chance to bitch.

The warm water of the hot spring went up to her neck, as she sat on a large rock at the bottom. Sango gave an auidable deep breath before glancing at her, a knowing curious glint in her brown eyes. Kagome sighed because she knew what was coming.

"Kagome-chan?" The Taijya asked, voice low.

"Yeah?"

"I don't mean to pry, but why aren't you and Inuyasha talking?"

She shrugged, "Don't know."

"Is it something to do with yesterday?"

"Maybe. I don't really know, Sango-chan," Kagome answered, hoping that would get her to drop the subject. Apparently, the Gods were shining down on her, because Sango said nothing more. She could sense the miko's unease.

When they rode back, they found Inuyasha was nowhere to be seen. Miroku had grabbed some logs and put them around a fire, which was now being used to cook ramen. Shippo was coloring next to Miroku and smiled, looking up, when the two entered the clearing. He jumped up and gave the picture he was working on to Kagome.

She grimaced, gazing at the drawing of the ape youkai kicking Inuyasha's ass and then Shippo saving the day, and then glanced down at the gleaming kitsune, who asked, "Like it?"

Kagome gave her best motherly smile and nodded, "Such an artist, Shippo."

He hugged her leg in appreciation then grabbed the drawing, putting it in Kagome's oversized bookbag, and began another. She walked over to the log Miroku and now Sango were sitting on. She stared into the fire, watching the flames lick at the pot that was cooking the tasty soup, and spoke, "Miroku-sama, where's Inuyasha?"

He gave a shurg, stirring the soup with a plastic spoon, "Don't know. He didn't say. Just jumped off somewhere. Maybe he smelled-"

Sango cut him off with a hard punch in the side, knocking the breath out of him, and finished his obvious sentence, "He probably smelled a demon or something." Kagome nodded, unfazed by Miroku's almost slip, and began to daydream about her date with Hojo. 'He was so nice and held my hand almost the entire time. Plus, he paid for dinner and the movie. Why can't Inuyasha do that? Well, wait, he doesn't really have money, much less a job!'

She sighed, defeated, because she knew Inuyasha was unpredictable and just plain... well, weird. Hojo was "normal", kind, and sane. Occationally, boring but he managed to make up for it with everything else. At least, he wasn't Kouga-kun with his sudden proposition of love and saying she was his "woman", plus showing off in front of Inuyasha all the time. And Hojo wasn't Miroku, (need I explain? Hehe...) either, and he definitely wasn't Inuyasha. He was the complete opposite. 'So, why did Inuyasha kiss me like that and ask if... I did that with Hojo? Dammit dog-boy, you're so confusing!'

Kagome continued to ponder on the night before as they ate and then, since the sun had went down, got ready to sleep. He still hadn't returned and Shippo wasn't making it any better.

"Maybe he's dead!" He figured in glee, laying down next to a smaller version of Kirara. Kagome sighed and fought the urge to throw her pillow at him. Sango saved the day by saying, "That's not nice, Shippo-chan." He frowned and muttered, "Sorry."

The moon shone down creating an eerie blue effect everywhere the light touched. Clouds covered the sky and Kagome could hear the distant sound of thunder off in the distance. She hoped the hanyou was safe. 'Baka Inuyasha! Please come back before I wake up.' The young miko closed her eyes and fell asleep.

A loud howl not too far off woke the young teenager from her dreamless slumber. Her chocolate brown eyes shot open and she immediately sat up in the darkness. The fire had died out and the group, still minus one, were snoring loudly. Her frantic eyes scouted the area she could actually see, a hand going over her chest to calm her fast beating heart, and found nothing that could be suspicious.

She let out a long sigh before checking the clearing once more to make sure she hadn't missed anything. The moon was high in the sky, tiny stars twinkling, but dark ominious clouds began to trail over it, hiding the moon off and on. The trees shook in a light breeze, signaling the coming of rain. A streak of lightning shot across the sky, causing Kagome to jump, then a loud clap of thunder followed soon after. She couldn't help but think about how much she wished to be home, in her warm comfy bed, maybe cuddling with Buyo. In her startled state, she stood up and began to back towards the woods, almost on instinct to find cover from the closeby storm.

She could feel the cold grass underneath her bare feet, then a small rock under the arch, so when she was suddenly stopped because of something hard behind her, she shrieked. A large hand went over her mouth to shush her and she started to struggle, but she felt the tips of those familiar claws and quit, relieved. His hot breath fanned across her exposed back, since she was wearing a PJ tink-top, and it caused a chill to race down her spine.

He removed his hand after a moment and she turned to face him. She was caught offguard by the intense emotions flowing deep in the amber orbs. She forced down her sudden nervousness and gave a smile, before asking quietly, "Where have you been, Inuyasha?"

He glanced towards the forest, then answered with another question, "Why are you up right now? Shouldn't you be asleep?"

"The thunder woke me," she said, forgetting momentarily about the loud howl from earlier. One clammy hand went up to rub her upper arm, feeling the goosebumps rising on the chilled skin. She swallowed, then commented, "Hope it's not gonna be a bad storm."

He nodded, solemn, and pointed towards the dark clouds above, "It might be. Dunno."

They stood there, in an almost akward silence, as each one just gazed at their surroundings, wondering what the hell to actually say. Kagome spoke first, breaking the tension, as she stuck out her other hand, palm up, and felt a raindrop land on the exposed flesh, "It's raining."

He stared at her, studying the strange facial expression she currently wore, and took a step forward, sliently unsure of his actions. She let her hands fall loosely at her side, as raindrop after raindrop began to come down. Then, a downpour started, soaking everything in its wake, including Kagome's tink-top, which began to stick to her skin, outlining each feature of her body. He took another step, ears strained only on her, and fought the urge to bite on his bottom lip.

Brown eyes widened, eyelashes decorated with fragile tiny raindrops, as one of his hands grabbed her limp wrist and pulled her slowly to him. Sensitive, wet breasts pressed against the red haori he always wore, as she took a sharp intake of breath. His eyes were locked on her's, as he leaned his head down with an exaggerated care then brushed his soft lips against her's. Kagome's mind was blank, as he pulled back, his face only inches away, as he whispered, "Why'd you do it, Kagome?"

Her eyebrows knotted in confusion at the question, as she managed to say back, "What?" His expression turned stern, as he said, "Why did you kiss 'em?" This caused a dormant anger to flare up as she tried to yank her hand away from him, but he held firm. Her ears noticed the low growl that began deep in his throat, and could be felt by how close he was.

She yanked again, and this time she got a vocal answer out of him, but it definitely wasn't what she ever expected him to say, "You fuckin' bitch, you're staying right here." He whispered it, voice now that raw and husky tone from the night before. Why was he acting so weird? She looked up at him, anger reflecting in her eyes, as they glared at one another, neither turning away for fear of losing the battle for domiance. She bit her bottom lip and was taken aback by him crashing his lips down on her's, immediately forcing his tongue into her mouth.

She cried out in surprise and her free hand pushed against his upper chest, but he stopped her by biting down on her lip. She squeaked in protest, as his other arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her flush against him. This was when she felt the hardness against her thigh and it sent a frightened shock through her system.

She fought against him with all her might now, not sure what the hell to think, and finally got free, but not without a long scratch on her arm in the process. She dropped to the wet ground, eyes wide in horror, as she looked up to find something she did not think she'd see again, especially since Tetsusaiga was right there.

His eyes were scarlet with the blue pupils dilated staring straight at her. A shudder racked through her frame at the sight of his lips parted, tips of his sharp fangs peeking out. He began to approach her, but her mouth opened, as the rain fell down in sheets and the rest of the group slept peacefully, and screamed the only thing she could, "OSUWARI!"
