Chapter 1 My Past
"Hit the mark!” She yelled as she aimed and shot her arrow at the snake demon. The demon screamed in pain as it was purified. The miko only prayed for the poor creatures’ soul as she prepared to leave the town she had just saved. This miko was on a journey. A journey she would go on alone. She believed that it was her job to go on her own with no one to join her. She felt she was not meant to love or find companions. She was a priestess that went from town to town saving them from being destroyed by the terrible demons that attacked them. She had very long raven black hair that she let fall freely along her back and her bangs fell just above her eyes. She wore a white, long sleeve shirt with long, loose green pants with white flowers lining the ankles above the seam. Her eyes were a dark brown like luscious chocolate. She had a petite frame and she was only about 5 and a half feet tall.
“Lady Kagome! Lady Kagome!” Came a small voice from behind her. Kagome stopped, looking over her shoulder to see who called for her.
“Lady Kagome!” A small girl said as she run up to her panting. The girl hugged the miko as she said, “Thank you so much for saving our homes from that awful demon!”
“It was no problem. It’s my duty to protect others from what they cannot protect themselves.” She said smiling. Kagome loved the children and would do anything to protect them. They are the future anyways. She wished with all her might that she could have a child of her own, but she knew it was impossible. She would never find anyone to love her. Some miko priestess that dedicated her life to protecting others, there was no chance.
Just then, her thoughts were cut off when the girl’s parents came up to the priestess and thanked her as they took their daughter back to their house. At that, the miko left. It was getting dark and she would need to find shelter for the night soon.
“Huh... Wonder if there are any good caves in this area.” She said. She wished that she could have a normal life with a house, a husband, a family, and everything a normal woman could have. Then again, she didn’t want to get hurt again.
As she walked her thought wandered to the past and all of her pain returned to her.
Flashback
She was at one time a typical 18 year old girl, except for the fact that she had miko powers, but back then it didn’t matter to her. She didn’t even really think about it. She had fallen for a boy in her senior class. His name was Kouga. He had very dark brown hair, almost black, that he wore in a ponytail that hit just below his shoulder blades. Kagome thought his eye were his best feature however. His eyes were a ice blue color that could freeze any girl in her tracks. He was a full wolf demon and had a chocolate brown tail. She thought it was so adorable at the time. Kouga was the fastest member of the track team and was basically worshiped by all the other wolf demons in the school.
Kagome was so excited when he had asked her to be his date to the prom. She had liked him since the beginning of the year. That prom night was like a dream for her. He had gotten a limo for them, gone out to dinner, and he even kissed her before they got to the prom. They danced, laughed, and enjoyed each other’s company, or so she thought. After the prom was over, he took her to a park for what she thought was a romantic walk. Kagome felt she was in love with Kouga after the lovely night they had shared. As they walked, she noticed that there was something strange going on. She could just sense that something was wrong. Kouga started acting different towards the end of the walk.
“Kouga, is something the matter?” She asked. When she got no response, she stated, “I sense something strange.” As she said this, she was grabbed from behind by another wolf demon.
She tried to scream but her mouth was covered by the wolf’s clawed hand. She managed to squirm enough to speak, “Kouga help me!” When he turned around, she couldn’t believe her eyes. He grinned at her as if saying ‘I’ve got you now.’ His eyes didn’t have the care and love they had shown earlier. Now all she could see was lust and power.
All Kagome could think was ‘How could I be so blind? All he wants is my body! What am I going to do?’ Her thoughts were cut off by the evil laughter of the wolf demon leader, Kouga.
“You really thought that I could care for a disgusting miko like you? You’re more foolish than I first thought!” He laughed. “It was so easy getting you to trust me and follow me out here, in the middle of nowhere, where no one will even hear you scream.” He said very evilly.
“You tricked me you filthy wolf!” She spat. “Now you will pay!” She lifted a hand to the now terrified wolf demon. But before she could finish him, a quiet voice in the back of her head stopped her. ‘This isn’t who you are. Don’t kill him.’
As she thought about what to do, she saw the fear in Kouga’s eyes. He knew that he was a goner. Seeing this showed her that he learned his lesson.“Get out of here. I never want to see your face again, and if I do, I will kill you. Now get!” She said with an intensity that any human or demon would be scared of. Kouga just turned and ran as fast as he could.
End Flashback
It was very dark now. She didn’t realize how long she had been thinking of the past. All these old wounds now stung her.
“I have to find somewhere to sleep for tonight.” She said as she tried to push away all the past nightmares she had just revived. After a half hour of searching for shelter, she found a small cave that she could stay in for the night. She started a fire to keep her warm during the night. Kagome had sensed a storm brewing so it would probably get pretty cold. This would not help the fact that she hadn’t been able to get a good night sleep in a long time. Her exhaustion was starting to effect her spiritual powers. She attempted to meditate to try and strengthen her powers and rest a little before she was on her way first thing in the morning.
Kagome rested for only about an hour before the rain started. When it rains, it pores. And it did. It rained cats and dogs out that night. It was hard for her to meditate with the storm so she decided it was a lost cause. She looked out into the forest with the sheet of rain covering it from her full view.
She couldn’t see much through the sheet of rain, but there was one thing that caught her eye. ‘Was that a flash of scarlet and silver?’ She thought. This had a hold on her interest. ‘What would be out at this time of night in the pouring rain? Animals would be in shelter, right? Plus, what kind of animal has those colors?’ She attempted using her miko powers to try and sense what the flash was, but then she felt the power coming from the being. She felt it. It was a hanyou. A very powerful one.
