Chapter 4: Payback Time
Inuyasha plopped down the bed and rolled over in his stomach with a heavy sigh. Spending the day with two uncontrollable shoppers, having to be dragged around every single store, and then having to pound some sense to Miroku's head because of his perverted habits, was not the ideal way for Inuyasha to spend the day. Truth to be told, the talk he had with Miroku have been…well, strange if anything. Brows knitting together in confusion, he tried to remember the conversation they had earlier at the mall, in a safe distance, well away from Sango's fury.
“You're either really dense not to know that Sango will be mad if you touch her or you really have some sickening incurable disease in your hand that attracts it to every woman's body parts.”
Chuckling, the monk answered, “I can't help myself, Inuyasha. Don't tell me you haven't touch Kagome in public before.”
“Keh! Unlike you, pervert, I have some control.”
“Well some of us are not that lucky.” Miroku answered with a mixture of relief and regret evident in his voice.
Snorting, Inuyasha says, “If I were you, I wouldn't do anything to upset her just now. I think this is the worst case that she has ever been mad at you.”
Narrowing his eyes, “What exactly did you do to send her off that bad?”
Inuyasha watched Miroku's face light up into a dreamy state then turn to a wince of pain. Miroku let out a sigh and turned to Inuyasha.
“I was merely trying to help Sango wash off the stain on her shirt from the drink I accidentally spit on her when they told us that they have just shopped only halfway…halfway! Can you imagine how LONG or how HEAVY their bags will be if they have shopped the whole way! So I grabbed a bunch of napkins and started wiping away the stain from her chest when my hand somehow slipped inside…not on purpose! Well…maybe if I didn't let my hand get too close...my hand does have a mind of its own. Wish it didn't have. Then again I wouldn't have anything as an excuse…Anyway, when I looked up she was shaking with anger or embarrassment…I don't know…and the next thing I know I am lying unconscious on the floor with a stinging pain on my cheek…all because I was just trying to help her!! Tell me how is that fair?” Miroku rambled, arms wildly spinning around with frustration and eyes filled with awe. “And then she tells me that the only word that seem to fit me perfectly is a pervert and nothing more.” He added with his eyes now filled with nothing but ache.
Inuyasha heaved a sigh and invited Miroku to sit down beside him on the bench.
“Maybe if you stop your perverted habits, then maybe she'd actually believe that you're not always trying to touch her or something.” Inuyasha suggested with a hint of incredulity in his tone. After his suggestion, he snorted in disbelief and said,
“The day that happens is when that bastard damned half-brother of mine starts smiling and laughing his head off.”
“So what do you suggest I do? You know to tell her I'm sorry and that I am so much more than just a pervert who happens to drool at any pretty girl who walks by.” Miroku asked.
“Don't really know. When Kagome's upset with me, I send her red roses, her favorite flower, take her to dinner, then finish the day with a moonlit walk in the beach.” Inuyasha replied thoughtfully. “Or you could just make an appointment with your doctor and have a check-up with your so-called “cursed hand”. That way, it'll be all the end of all this madness. And maybe she won't think you're just a pervert who happens to drool at any pretty girl who happens to walk by.”
Miroku sighed. “Inuyasha, does Sango really only think of me only as an ass-grabbing pervert?” he asked with pain wrapped in his voice.
“Keh! How am I supposed to know? She's not my girlfriend.” Inuyasha answered with a snort. He looked over and did a double take at how his friend looked.
Gazing into space, he seemed deep in thought. His eyebrows were drawn together and his eyes seem so far away with a hint of regret and sadness dancing in his violet eyes. With a sigh, he got up and forced a fake smile to form in his lips.
“Well, I guess I should make it up to her then, huh?” Miroku stated. “I just hope she's calm enough to put off whatever she was planning to finish me off.” He finished with a light and false chuckle.
Inuyasha watched him walk away with confusion and disbelief taking over his head. He had never seen him that way in his whole friendship with Miroku. He was usually the one who brings out the first laugh. Well, after getting his ass kicked by Sango anyway. Sighing, he caught up with Miroku and returned to the table.
The girls were pretty much in a good mood now and Sango seemed to have forgotten about the whole incident. Miroku, on the other hand, Inuyasha thought, haven't forgotten.
Inuyasha was snapped out of his flashback when two slim long legs wrapped around him, straddling his waist. Small and delicate hands were running up and down his back and his shoulders, gently massaging his sore muscles. He groaned and rolled over from his previous position, only to see a barely covered Kagome on top of him. She was wearing one of her tiny black shorts that stopped just below her butt and a red long sleeved unbuttoned shirt that was tied below her breasts, therefore exposing her smooth flat belly, and her raven hair pulled up in cute pigtails. She smiled mischievously and continued her assault now on his sculpted chest. She marveled at how his velvet skin rippled with every movement as his ragged breathing caused. He moaned, then in a flash grabbed her wrists and flipped them over making him hovering above her.
“If you want to save these clothes, Kagome, you'd better take them off yourself…and fast.” Inuyasha warned while getting off of her and moved to the other side of the bed.
The outfit she was using to tease him was a birthday gift from him on freshman year just months after they started going out. She gasped at the loss of warmth and moved here eyes to look at Inuyasha when the threat sank in.
“Keh! Fine, but don't say I didn't warn you. I just though that you liked those clothes is all. Guess you don't after all.” Inuyasha remarked and moved to straddle her again.
But before he could do that, Kagome suddenly stood right up and she gasped at the statement. Grumbling, she stood up and stomped towards the bathroom. She didn't hear Inuyasha chuckle behind her as he waited patiently on the bed, closing his eyes for what he thought was just for a moment. Kagome strode back to the room expecting Inuyasha to pounce on her but instead met a sleeping hanyou snoring lightly from his deep slumber. Sighing, she climbed on to the bed with the least amount of sound she could make and gently pulled the red comforter around the two of them.
Warmth and content enveloped her as she watched Inuyasha's peaceful face. He looked as if there was nothing in the world that could ever disturb him from his rest. She marveled at the soft sounds his snores made. The way his lips would flutter gently like butterfly wings at every sigh, and the way his ears flicked back and forth as if monitoring the room for any kind of danger.
Ever since she could remember, he had always been there for her and still is. He never let her out of his sight even when they were still friends and nothing more. When they started dating, it seems as if his over protectiveness have escalated into a higher measure. He would always protect her from everything he thought would harm her. He treated her as if she was made of porcelain. So fragile and delicate to handle. He stayed by her through all her sunny and stormy days. Stood by her side no matter what happened.
She remembered the time when her father died on her fifth birthday. They have only known each other for a year back then. And yet he was the one who comforted her from the dreadful news, from the painful knowledge that his father would never come back to hold her in his arms again. He held her all night while she cried and cried until she couldn't cry anymore. He rubbed circles on the lower portion of her back, the only action he could think of to soothe her. It was as if they have known each other for years and were made to protect each other. People she had known all through her five years of living seemed so strange and different to her when compared to how Inuyasha made her feel that day and still do. She barely talked to anyone after the incident and when she does she only talked to Inuyasha.
Reflecting on that day, she can't imagine what would she be like now if it weren't for him then. She would've just crawled under her bed and stayed there for the rest of her life. Her father meant a lot to her. And losing her after just a couple of years spent with him was enough to destroy her heart that haven't had experience the misery of losing someone you loved. But Inuyasha was there. He gave her a reason to move on. A reason for her to live and look at the world in a whole other way. She helped her get through all the obstacles she faced and all the pain she had to endure. It was a comforting feeling knowing that you have someone that doubles all your joy in life and shares the pain. She could only guess if Inuyasha felt the same way, too.
She smiled and reached out to him as she gently smoothed the tangled silvery locks of his mane. She lowered her fingers to lightly stroke his cheek, his eyes, his lips, and his jaw, fascinated at the structure of his strong and handsome face. Catching sight of his ears, a mischievous smile captivated her lips and she stretched her hand to gently rub one of his fuzzy appendages when a clawed hand grasped her wrist and held it tightly around it's hand.
Popping one eye to look at her, Inuyasha remarked teasingly, “Don't even think about it, wench.”
“Oh come on! I haven't been able to touch it in…” she paused and counted digits with her fingers, “for about three hours now!”
“Keh! You haven't been able to touch them in the first 11 years of your life and another hour or two won't kill you.” he snorted. Kagome gave a loud “Hrmph” and crossed her arms across her chest as best as she can while lying down. Inuyasha laughed at her childish antics and Kagome shot him a withering glare. Inuyahsa held his hands up in a defensive stance but continued to chuckle when Kagome settled down with a pout in her face.
“And you say I'm the one who pouts.” Inuyasha commented.
“You do to!” Kagome shot back. “I just don't pout more than I should like you do.”
“Keh! I don't pout!”
“You do too.”
“Do not!”
“Do too!”
“Do not!”
“Do too!”
“Do not!”
“Do too!”
Suddenly, Kagome's mirth of laughter and giggles filled the room. Inuyasha hovered above her, straddling her waist, mercilessly tickling Kagome sides with his claws.
“Tell me I don't pout.” Inuyasha demanded.
“But you do! Inuyasha, stop!” Kagome shrieked helplessly while trying to push his hands away.
“Not until you surrender and tell me that I'm right and you're wrong…as always”
“Never…” Kagome managed to choke out between her giggles and laughter.
“I can keep this up all day Kagome.” Inuyasha threatened. He was lying. His sensitive ears were beginning to fell numb from the excessive sound so close to him. He flattened his ears down until it's as if he didn't have them at all.
Kagome was squirming from the merciless torture and after tears were rolling down her cheeks, she yelled, “All right! All Right! You win!”
Inuyasha didn't stop. “Say it!”
“Say what?” Kagome throttled out all the while writhing trying to get out of Inuyasha'a firm grasp.
“You know what. Tell me that I don't pout!"
“Okay, okay. You don't pout!”
Inuyasha moved his claws away from her sides but didn't get up from his position. Kagome wiped the tears that were streaming down her cheeks with the back of her hand. She struggled to change her straggled gasps to deep breaths. Once she had calmed down, she heard a loud growl. She looked up at Inuyasha who was grinning sheepishly at her with a faint blush on his cheeks.
She giggled and asked, “You hungry?”
He snorted. “What do you think, wench? I didn't even eat anything at lunch today! That's the last time I am ever going to let you decide what we're going to do for weekends. Sneaky wench.”
She laughed at his remark and pushed him off of her. “Come on. I'm sure I can whip up something.” She said and dragged Inuyasha with his hand out of the room. Now in college, the two decided to live on their own. Away from parents, home, and disturbances. Or at least that was what Inuyasha thought. The two best friends share a modest two-story house with a large front yard and a cozy porch together with Miroku and Sango. Inuyasha considered them as “annoyances” to his alone time with Kagome.
Inside the house was a large living room with a complete entertainment system, a long red couch with two loveseats on the sides, and a glass-topped coffee table with magazines stacked at the bottom and a vase with daisies in the middle. DVD's and CD's lined the sides of the stands by the television. On the other side was the kitchen with a three-step stair separating it from the living room. Steel cooking stove and oven occupied the left corner. Two microwaves and a tall white refrigerator were situated in the right corner. A long winding counter surrounded the remaining side space with a broad sink, dishware, pots and pans. Cream-colored cupboards filled with other serving dishes, cups, and canned goods lined the walls. Two-step down the kitchen is the dining room containing a wide table with only four chairs tucked under. Different colored frames and paintings covered the sidewalls. Beyond the living room and the kitchen were two enormous glass sliding doors. A wide swimming pool with a diving board surrounded with different plants and a large bar on the right side inhabited the other side of the glass doors. A marvelous marble staircase leads to the second floor of the house. Three doors on each side of the hallway doors stood. Inuyasha and Kagome's room are right next to each other, though Kagome sleeps most of the time in Inuyasha's bedroom. Miroku and Sango's rooms are separated with the spare room in the middle of their bedrooms. Sango thinks Miroku would sneak in her bedroom at night. With the spare room, she claims, would give her some protection and distance from his wandering hands…and eyes.
Kagome tiptoed down the stairs with Inuyasha trailing behind her. Kagome made her way bustling around the kitchen boiling a pot of water.
“Ramen good enough for you?”
“Keh! I guess that's the only thing you can cook wench…but I'll live.”
Kagome snorted in indignation. She knew full well that Inuyasha experienced first-hand that she can cook. Otherwise, no food other than ramen would've entered his stomach.
The two ate in comfortable silence. Inuyasha burped loudly.
“I hope Miroku's all right. He seemed pretty upset at the incident.”
“Keh! Probably enjoying himself with all the GOOD food Sango bought. She sure is getting better food than I am.” Inuyasha teased.
Kagome stood up and strode out the door, head held high and shoulders squared and rigid. Inuyasha chuckled and snuck up behind her.
Grabbing her waist from behind, “I wouldn't trade you for anything…even if Sango has a better taste in food.”
Kagome made a half-hearted attempt to get out of his firm hold. “Don't blame me if you choose to live only on ramen.”
“Let go.” Kagome demanded.
Dropping his lips on her neck, he nibbled and licked at the soft silk of her flesh and dared, “Make me.”
Kagome unconsciously turned her head aside to give him a better access to her neck. She felt one strong calloused hand stroke her heated sides with the other caressing the underside of her left breast. Her slender arm shot out and grasped his neck pushing his lips further down to her collarbone. One hand slumped down on his left thigh for support. His assaults were making her weak.
His hot breath on her skin sent delicious shivers down her spine. Every whisper of his velvet tongue made her heart beat harder against her ribcage. The warmth from his heated palm traveling up and down her sides made her knees buckle. Another moan escaped her.
“Tell me you don't want me.”
“I don't…” Kagome said firmly with another whimper drawn from her when she felt his hand squeeze her left breast.
“Words are no good to me Kagome when I can smell you. Right now. I know you want me.” Inuyasha chided with another squeeze on her bosom.
“…That's not fair…” Kagome gasped out, “ I can't smell you…”
Inuyasha pushed her flushed up against him. “You don't need to.”
Kagome gasped at the close contact and moaned when his meaning sank in. “Bedroom now?” she asked. Her senses he sent on a whirl and it's no use denying it if his nose was as sensitive as he claims. She was getting tired of his slow assaults.
She heard him laugh behind her but chose to ignore it…for now. He tossed her over his shoulder and headed towards their room.
`He's going to pay for this later...much later.” Kagome thought hazily.
The last thing she saw was Inuyasha naked on top of her caressing her with a gentle touch she was so familiar with…
