Chapter 2: Confrontation
“Hiraikotsu!” Sango yelled at the top of her lungs while throwing the bone boomerang at another giant insect youki. “How much more insect youki do you think there are?” asked Sango trying to catch her breath
Miroku threw another ofuda at the next insect youki in front of him “I do not know, my sweat Sango, but what I do know is that if we kill the owl youki controlling the overgrown pests then our problems will be solved.”
Sango rolled her eyes at Miroku’s comment of her and turned her head to look at him to reply when she saw a giant spider youki going at Miroku from behind and yelled “Miroku behind you!”
Miroku turned around just in time to see its acid web coming for him. He was barely able to move, making the web hit his arm instead of his chest. Miroku yelled as soon as he felt the acid hit him. He ripped off what was left of his sleeve to look at his arm being eaten away by the spider’s acid. He screamed in pain, which made everyone turn and look at him. Sango was the first to run up to him and examine his arm.
“Miroku we need to get this treated right away!” she said with a worried expression.
Kagome came running next, with the first aid kit in one of her hands and her bow in the other. As soon as she got to Miroku, Sango was about to explain what happened when another giant insect youki, this time a praying mantis, came after them while screaming “Give us the jewel shards and we might spare your lives!”
But before it had time to hurt any of them Inuyasha came and cut it in half with Tessaiga and said “Are you guys just gunna sit there and enjoy the show, while I work my ass off or what?”
Kagome who was tending to Miroku’s wound as fast as she could said with an irritated voice “Zip it Inuyasha! We’re working as fast and as hard as we can!”
Then came another youki which Inuyasha took care of quickly and replied to Kagome “Keh. Then work fuckin’ faster!” To that Kagome just rolled her eyes, knowing that her companion was just as annoyed as she was.
Lately, more youki have been coming to ask, or take if you look at it that way, for the jewel shards than usual. Preventing them from getting a full night sleep, since some youki have taken into the habit of waking them up at night. And during the day they were delaying them in the hunt to get more jewel shards than Naraku. Yes, Naraku already has most of the jewel shards, but that doesn’t mean they can’t at least try to get more.
A while later they were starting to kill off most of the insect youki with a couple wind scar’s, hiraikotsu’s, purifying arrows, and wind tunnel openings. But then the owl that was controlling the giant insects came out of hiding thinking that their prey must have died by now and said “Pests’ did you finish them yet? Bring me the jewel shar-”
“How ‘bout I finish you off, you stupid mother fucker!” Inuyasha yelled, swinging Tessaiga to cut the owl in half.
When Kagome saw the owl she thought ‘It’s huge! Almost as big as a car!’ The owl was the color of orange and brown mixed together and its feet and beak were black. It wore an amulet the shape of an eye with a green jewel in the middle.
The owl youki saw Inuyasha’s swing coming and dodged it right on time sighing he said “If you want something done you have to do it yourself right? I hate that saying.” He looked around to see where most of the inu-group was. While flying towards them his eyes became a swirl of black and white and green mist started to come out of them. Everyone ran away not wanting to get any of that mist on them.
Kagome, confused about how the owl was able to do that said “How did that owl make green water come out of its eyes and why did it try to get it on us!?”
Inuyasha and Sango who were on high alert, waiting for the owl to come back out were not paying attention so Kagome looked at Miroku for an answer “I do not know how it was able to do that, but my guess is on the amulet it is wearing. And I am guessing that it tried to wet us so it can control us just like it controlled the insects.” Kagome made an “o” face and nodded her head, saying she understood.
When the owl youki came back out he screeched “Fool! You dare to try and hurt me? A filthy hanyou as yourself trying to hurt a full blooded youki like me? Don’t make me laugh!”
Inuyasha snorted back “Shut up! I’ve fought way stronger youki than you, and guess who fuckin’ won.”
The owl youki just laughed and flew down for another attack. He saw when Kagome was notching up an arrow and moved passed it like nothing, but the purifying arrow was a little too close for comfort and sent a chill down his back, which made his feathers puff up.
Miroku was hurting. Kagome had tried to make most of it go away, but he could still feel the acid eating away at his skin. Miroku had enough. He was tired of this and just wanted to rest. “Excuse me, but I am in pain. I am feeling woozy and I just want to rest. So I apologize Inuyasha, but I must end your fun.” That said Miroku lifted his cursed hand, pointed it at a confused owl, and took off his beads.
The owl was flabbergasted. Some stupid human thought he could actually end this fight, ‘And he even apologized to that filthy hanyou! Does he really think he can kill ME?’ Then he saw it. An endless black swirl sucking him in. No matter how hard he tried to fly away, he simply could not. The whirl wind was too strong for him.
Finally, he was gone. Every one sighed their relief.
While Kagome tended to Miroku’s wound properly, Sango said “We really should make camp soon. That owl youki took most of our daylight, and I think it would be a bad idea to travel in the dark.” Everyone turned to look at Inuyasha.
“Keh fine, you weak humans wouldn’t be any damn good in the dark anyway.” And with that they were off to look for a suitable place to camp.
He looked around, but didn’t find what he was looking for. There was not one soul collector in sight. The wind picked up at just that moment and Inuyasha was absolutely sure that it was Kikyo sent, not bones and graveyard soil, but her actual born right smell. Inuyasha was confused. He didn’t know if he was just imagining Kikyo’s sent by taking in Kagome’s, like when he first met her or if he was really smelling Kikyo. Then her smell went to Inuyasha’s nose again ‘No I’m not going crazy, this is really Kikyo’s sent’
Mind made up, Inuyasha decided to figure out what was going on. Going where his nose was taking him, he did not notice when the young miko started to cry. ‘Stupid Inuyasha! He could at least tell us he was leaving so we could be prepared if some youki decides to just take the jewel shards at this very moment.’ She looked around to see her friends peacefully asleep and decided not to wake them. Her thoughts drifting to a certain hanyou ‘He probably went to see Kikyo… What if she decides to take him to hell against his will? What if she just kills him or seals him again? What if they run off together deciding they can defeat Naraku on their own?’
Wanting to put her mind at ease, she decided to wake up Miroku to take watch. Thinking that Sango would go off and look for Inuyasha to teach him a lesson instead of watching the sleeping members of the camp.
“Mirokuuu” Kagome whispered, about to shake him a bit, but didn't need to. As it turned out Miroku was already awake since he sensed Inuyasha's youki arua fade.
“No need to continue, I understand completely.” Said a now fully aware monk. Kagome nodded with thankful and determined eyes and left. Leaving a worried Miroku to his thoughts.
There she was. Sitting on the ground, leaning on the trunk of a tree. Eating a red apple that looked like it was just picked off of one. “Ah Inuyasha!” She said with a smile on her face that Inuyasha longed to see once again. She continued “I’m surprised to see that you were able to find me without my soul collectors. I was afraid I would have had to go into your camp to-”
Inuyasha cut her off “Kikyo you’re… you’re alive!”
Kikyo stood up, placing her unfinished apple in a fairly large bag that sat next to her. “Yes Inuyasha I’m alive.” She said with the same tone of voice that she always used when she was undead.
Inuyasha was completely caught off guard. He had never expected Kikyo to be back alive. He already had so much of his problems between her and Kagome solved in his mind. He knew that he loved Kikyo at one point in his life, but that now he was in love with Kagome. He knew that there could never be anything between Kikyo and himself because she was dead. But most importantly he knew he wanted to be with Kagome. He had decided long ago that he would not go to hell with Kikyo, but that he would avenge her death. Now everything that he had worked out in his mind was all mixed up again. He had so many things running through his head so instead of blabbering like an idiot he settled on one word “How?”
“How I did it is not important, but why I did it is.”
Inuyasha was on autopilot. Just going with what his brain could make out. “Why?”
Kikyo smiled then; about to recite the speech she had worked on for the last couple of days since her rebirth. “For you Inuyasha. For us. For our love.” Inuyasha was about to reply to that statement, but Kikyo continued “Now we can live together in peace. We can forget about Naraku and the jewel. We can live how we wanted, before this whole mess started. We can be happy. Inuyasha… I love you.”
Her voice sounded sincere. She sounded like the old Kikyo, the one he fell in love with long ago. But what she was suggesting, he could not do ‘I just can’t walk away from the mission with Naraku. I can’t leave everyone to do it on their own. I… I can’t leave Kagome.’ He was going to say his thoughts out loud, but what came passed his lips was not what he was expecting himself to say “I… I love you too Kikyo.”
But then she saw it. There was bright red not too far off in front of her. She slowed her walking not trying to get to close, but close enough that she could hear the conversation going on. Once again, praying to the kami that Inuyasha would not be able to smell her. Apparently, the kami granted her that wish because Inuyasha made no sign that he noticed her presence.
“Yes Inuyasha I’m alive.” She heard then there was a small pain in her chest ‘Kikyo’s alive… then what does that mean for Inuyasha and me… wait forget about me what does that mean for Inuyasha and Kikyo?’ then she heard next “How?” “How I did it is not important, but why I did it is.” “Why?” Her chest hurt more ‘Yes Kikyo tell us why you did it. It was for Inuyasha right?’ “For you Inuyasha. For us. For our love.” The pain started getting worse. “Now we can live together in peace. We can forget about Naraku and the jewel. We can live how we wanted, before this whole mess started. We can be happy. Inuyasha… I love you.” The pain was unbearable now. She just wanted to get up and walk back to camp to sleep her misery away. But something kept her glued to her spot. Something in the back of her mind was telling her to wait to hear Inuyasha’s response. These few seconds seemed like hours, as if her life depended on Inuyasha’s next words. A couple more seconds passed by ‘He’s thinking about it… he’s actually thinking about leaving me to be with Kikyo! Especially with the mission still going on!’ “I… I love you too Kikyo.”
She ran.

Later that day, when everyone was tucked into their warm and cozy sleeping places, there was a shift in the wind, which made the nose of a hanyou to start twitching obsessively. He bolted up from his place in one of the taller trees around their campground, nearly knocking himself down in the process. Then he automatically looked down. ‘It can’t be her; she’s sleeping right below me. Besides this smell is slightly different.’ Then his eyes widened in shock. Only one thing on his mind. ‘Kikyo.’He looked around, but didn’t find what he was looking for. There was not one soul collector in sight. The wind picked up at just that moment and Inuyasha was absolutely sure that it was Kikyo sent, not bones and graveyard soil, but her actual born right smell. Inuyasha was confused. Inuyasha was taking his time for two reasons. One, he did not want to lose his trail on Kikyo’s sent and two, he was afraid of just what he might find. When her smell started getting stronger he knew was close. Then he reached a small clearing and had mixed emotions: surprised, confused, happy, angry, concern. Which he was trying so hard to keep at bay, not wanting to show any signs of them. There she was. Sitting on the ground, leaning on the trunk of a tree. Eating a red apple that looked like it was just picked off of one. “Ah Inuyasha!” She said with a smile on her face that Inuyasha longed to see once again. Kagome was running as fast as her legs would take her. Hoping she wasn’t too late. Hoping that Inuyasha was out of harm’s way. Hoping she wasn’t going the wrong way. She had seen the direction Inuyasha left towards, but with all the moving around trees she didn’t know if she was still going the same direction. But then she saw it.
