Two Face
Chapter One
Faded sunlight glittered through the filtered leaves of trees as the sun peeked over the horizon, bathing the city of Tokyo in a loving gold, slowly filling in the small crevices of the streets and chasing away the shadows. The city itself was already awake, the bustling and movement taking no notice to the newest appearance of light as it gradually became stronger and brighter. It ran along the streets as it made its way to the outer limits of the city to a more rural area. It raced up the long set of steps to the Higurashi Shrine and bounded toward the house, basking it in light warmth, reflecting off of the dew collected during the night. The newborn sunlight climbed up the wall of the house and peered into a window on the top floor, bathing the pink room in a golden hue, slightly stirring the occupant of the small bed that was pushed against the side of the wall.
The light was suddenly blocked as a young man with silvery white hair sat down next to the bed, his sunlit eyes just peering over the edge. The triangular dog-like ears atop his head were raised up, intently listening to the sleeping girl before him. The red fire-rat haori and matching hakama were turned into a yellow-orange from the light warming his back. He didn't know how long he had been sitting there, staring at the girl, but he didn't even care. There was a contentment he found in just sitting there, peacefully with her, caressed by her calming aura and bathed in her scent. Although his eyes betrayed his feelings; narrowing slightly, almost angrily.
The morning light became brighter now, piercing through the sleeping girl's eyelids as she awoke slowly. She cracked a blue eye open a sliver, and upon seeing two bright golden orbs quickly squeezed shut.
“Rrr… go away Inuyasha, it's too early,” The dark haired girl named Kagome growled out, her voice hoarse from sleep. She pulled the light pink sheets up to her nose, trying to bury her face in their warmth.
“Oy, c'mon wench,” Inuyasha said softly, although his eyes narrowed even further. “Get up! We've got shard-hunting to do!” Kagome, now 18, had finally finished school, and was spending some quality time with her family after a particularly long stay in the Feudal Era. Naraku had slipped through their fingers multiple times, and was still on the loose, collecting the few shards of the jewel that were left. Inuyasha felt it was his duty to push him and his friends to the limit in their searches. Kagome had left to her time, saying she was taking a long-needed, albeit short, vacation in her time.
“Ugh, I'll be back tomorrow, Inuyasha,” Kagome grumbled, rolling over so that her back faced the increasingly irritated hanyou.
“It is tomorrow!” He yelled, now resting both hands and his head on the bed, pouting at Kagome's back. She answered him by awkwardly chucking a pillow at his head from her position. Inuyasha peeled the pillow off his face and jumped to his feet, eyes ablaze in anger.
“Stupid wench! Quit wasting time!” He nearly snarled at her, ripping her covers away so hard that they tore and left Kagome huddled in a small ball. As soon as she heard the ripping of the fabric, however, she sat up and stared at her sheets.
“Inuyasha!” She gasped, giving him an incredulous look. She grabbed hold of the other ends of the sheets and pulled them toward her. “Give those back! I'm trying to sleep!” Although now that she had been so abruptly woken up, she wouldn't be able to get back to sleep anyway.
“Doesn't look like it! Now let's go!” Inuyasha snapped, giving the sheet another heave. Not surprisingly, the thin fabric once again succumbed to the hanyou's claws and tore completely in two. Inuyasha stepped back in surprise at the sudden stop of pressure he was tugging at, but Kagome was caught in complete shock and was thrown back against the wall, banging her head slightly.
“Ow!” She cried out, bundling the sheets in one hand and rubbing the back of her throbbing skull. Inuyasha snorted, turned away and crossed his arms, seeing that she was fine, albeit a slightly sore head.
“Keh, stupid wench,” The silver-haired hanyou muttered darkly, glaring at the wall. Kagome's eyes widened in anger.
“You jerk! At least say you're sorry!” She shouted, looking defiantly at the boy in front of her. He stole a glance at her and snapped his head back towards the wall once more.
“Keh. You deserved it,” He mumbled, thinking Kagome couldn't hear him. Oh how wrong he was.
“You-you… what?! You come in here, wake me up in the wee hours of the morning, shred my favorite bed sheets, make me hit my head and have the gull to tell me I deserved it?!” Kagome gapped at him. He looked over her, surprised she heard him and scowled at her.
“Well it ain't my fault you're a clumsy wench!” He shouted back, gripping his half of the torn bed sheets.
Kagome's face flushed in anger, her eyes spitting venom at him, seeming to turn a dark blue; almost black. “SIT BOY!” She screamed, sending Inuyasha careening towards the floor with such fervor that he was surprised he didn't shatter the floor, but he did think he heard a small crack and pop. Then again, that could've just been the bones in his face breaking.
A light tap on the door caused Kagome to look up from her fuming and Inuyasha to quit struggling with the spell. Her mother opened the door.
“Hey Kagome, are you ok? I heard some shou—oh! Hello, Inuyasha, will you be staying long?” Mrs. Higurashi asked, looking from Kagome to the hanyou grumbling on the floor. Her gaze then fell to the shredded bed sheet. “My… what happened here, dear?”
Kagome followed her gaze and blushed. “Oh, er, uhm….” Her voice trailed off. Mrs. Higurashi shook her head and smiled. Inuyasha sat up as the spell wore off and glared at the young maiden.
“Well, whatever it was, I was just checking up on you. Your shouting must've woken up the entire area!” The older woman laughed as she saw the blush on both of their faces. “Would you like me to make breakfast?”
“At this ungodly hour?” Kagome shot a look at the digital clock on her desk. “No way! Go back to sleep or something! That's what I'm doing!” And with as much dignity as she could muster with torn sheets, she rolled over and presumably went back to sleep. Mrs. Higurashi laughed again.
“Alright then, honey, I'll come back later to get you up when it's ready. I assume you would like Ramen, Inuyasha?” Inuyasha tore his glaring eyes off of Kagome as he was addressed and nodded blankly. Mrs. Higurashi smiled at him and turned around to close the door behind her as she walked out of the room.
As soon as the coast was clear, Inuyasha turned his head back to the “sleeping” girl and growled at her. “You're not asleep you faker.”
She was answered with a loud—obviously fake—snore. Inuyasha made a face.
“What are you, a lady or an avalanche?” He asked with a snort. The boy crossed his arms again, biting his lip to keep from laughing. Kagome turned slightly to glare at him.
“Look, just let me sleep for a few more hours, ok? I'm really tired, and you could probably use some sleep yourself,” She mumbled, trying to stifle a yawn.
“Keh, I'm not weak like you. I don't need sleep,” Inuyasha stubbornly pointed out, but succumbed to the contagious bug and yawned himself. Kagome heard him and giggled, making the hanyou blush and sit down to lean against the bed. As soon as he did Kagome rolled back over to face the back of his head. His ears swiveled toward her.
“See? You're too uptight all the time. Just relax for a few hours, ok? It'll do you some good,” Kagome hummed, barely awake. She lazily picked up her hand and began to massage one of the boy's ears. He froze for a moment, but then gradually leaned into her hand to give her a better angle. A low rumbling vibrated around the room, spreading out to induce a calming atmosphere. Kagome smiled and continued for a few minutes until her hand got tired and let it fall to the bed spread. She sighed in content and snuggled into her pillow. Finally she got Inuyasha to sleep…
“Oy, wench, why'd you stop?” He whispered, the rumbling stopping instantly, leaving a deafening, empty silence behind. Inuyasha turned his head to look at the girl. She sleepily opened her eyes to look back at him and smiled.
“I thought you were sleeping.”
“Keh, I thought I told you-”
“-that you're not weak, and don't need sleep,” Kagome finished for him, rolling her eyes. Inuyasha scowled.
“Hey, you makin' fun of me, wench?” He asked, scrunching up his nose.
“Hmmmmaybe…” Kagome giggled, snuggling deeper into her pillow. Her arguments with Inuyasha usually left her feeling emotionally drained and tired, but small ones that held no bad feelings behind them, like this one, weren't all that bad. She felt herself loll into sleep, wondering why Inuyasha hadn't retorted about her answer until she felt the pillow suddenly tugged violently from under her head. Her noggin bounced on the soft mattress and she was instantly awake and sitting up, watching Inuyasha tuck it behind his own head.
“What was that for?!” She hissed, trying to take it back.
Inuyasha applied more pressure to it, effectively squashing it so she couldn't pull it out from under his head and sneered, “Well you were making fun of me so we're even.” Kagome let out an exasperated sigh and rolled her eyes.
“Whatever,” She muttered; bunching up what was left of her blanket into a type of pillow and slipping under her head. She rolled over again and promptly ignored the silver-haired boy.
Inuyasha's ears dropped slightly, missing the attention they had gotten before. He turned his head to steal a slight glance at the girl's back, but it was fruitless. She obviously wasn't in the mood to fight back.
`Which is damn well fine with me,' Inuyasha thought with a snort, but he leaned his head back against the pillow and let out an almost indistinguishable sigh. He was actually pretty tired himself, and almost—note the word almost—didn't feel like fighting anyway, but, sadly enough, that was when he felt close to Kagome. He was too stubborn and guarded to tell her anything, to tell her what he wants, what he feels, so rejecting her was the alternative. Thankfully she kept coming back, so Inuyasha felt that somehow, someway, he wasn't doing everything wrong. Although deep in his heart he knew that all he was doing was making the rift between them wider and deeper every day. It seemed so hopeless, watching her being chipped down and drift away, and as much as he wanted it to be, he knew that he would never get to be with her and that he was chasing her for nothing.
Kikyo would see to that.
The thought stirred him and he clenched his fists. Why were things so difficult with these two? They were one soul… yet two different people. Kikyo was the original, so didn't that make her the better?
But something just didn't feel right to Inuyasha. He loved Kikyo, and he supposed that he always would, and he was also indebted to her. He had to give her his life. He had to go to Hell with her. That was the least he could do for breaking his promise and not protecting her. His own death would reciprocate hers.
`But then why does it feel so wrong?' Inuyasha thought in turmoil. `Am I really that selfish to want to live and break my promise with her? To turn my back on my honor?' His eyes snapped open and he scowled at the reflection he saw in Kagome's mirror that hung on the wall. The hanyou stood up abruptly, turning to look at the sleeping miko. He suddenly felt very guilty for ripping her bed sheets. She looked so peaceful. How could she stand to even look at him?
Inuyasha gingerly lifted the girl's head, taking the crumpled up bed sheets and tucking the pillow in its place. He then drew the blanket out and placed it lightly over the girl's body as best he could, it being completely shred.
After standing there to reveal in her calming aura, very still and soft in her sleep, he turned and crouched at the window. `She deserves much better than me,' he thought sadly, and then jumped out the window to sulk in the Goshinboku for the remainder of the morning.

Kagome awoke to the blinding light of day right before her mother lightly tapped on the door. She sat up in bed, rubbing her eyes, and was surprised to find that the pillow had been rightfully placed under her head and the sheets awkwardly settled on top of her, now pooling around her waist. The silver-haired hanyou was gone, probably out the open window which was beckoning a soft breeze to blow itself in. Kagome was confused.
`He left? That's not like him…' She thought, a little disappointed. `Probably had to go see Kikyo or something…' Anger boiled under her skin, but dissipated as soon as her mother opened the door.
“Kagome, dear, are you ready to get up yet?” Mrs. Higurashi asked, walking into the room to look around. “Where did Inuyasha go?”
Kagome shook her head as she bundled up her ruined sheets and tried stuffing them into her small wastebasket. “I'm not sure.” She did her best to keep all of the hurt out of her voice.
“Hm…” Her mother mused, looking thoughtful. “Well, his breakfast is ready downstairs. Why don't you get dressed and go find him before coming down. I have a feeling that he's still around the shrine somewhere.” Kagome didn't miss that mysterious glint in her mother's eye. She smiled.
“Alright Mama, I won't be long.” The older woman nodded her head and walked back out to the hall, closing the door behind her. Kagome dug through her dresser drawers to look for some khaki shorts and a light blue tank top. It had been very hot back in the feudal era for the past few days. She assumed it would be much the same when she got back. The young girl had just slipped off her pajama shirt as she felt more than heard a presence behind her. As she turned to see the missing hanyou halfway in the window, just staring at her, his expression unreadable, she gripped the shirt to her bare chest and screamed.
That startled Inuyasha out of his perverted reverie and he yelped, losing his balance and toppling out of the window, sliding down the roof to roll off the edge. He landed face-first into the dirt in a cursing heap. Although he hadn't seen much, her back had looked so smooth, and all he had wanted to do was run his clawed fingers up her spine, reveling in the tingling he would feel, losing himself in the endless curves of skin. Inuyasha groaned into the ground and didn't move.
Kagome looked at the window in disbelief. He actually peeped on her?! Of course it wasn't all that surprising, he was a boy after all, but that seemed more like some Miroku would do than Inuyasha! Besides, he took it to himself to tell her how ugly she was all the time. Kagome shook her head and convinced herself it was an accident. He probably heard her and her mother talking and was going to come yell at her to go to the Feudal Era, and instead had found her undressing.
The young girl dashed down the stairs, now fully dressed, and tore outside, leaving her mother confused in the kitchen. She ran over and crouched down next to the unmoving hanyou.
“Inuyasha! Are you alright?!” She asked, placing her hand upon his shoulder. All he did was grunt.
“I'm fine, wench.”
“You just fell out of a window!”
“Well it ain't any different from one of your subdues!” He snarled back at her, finally getting up to scowl at her. Kagome rolled her eyes and stood up with him. Whatever.
“Well, Mama made some breakfast for us, so why don't you come in to eat some? Unless, of course, you went back to your era to have something to eat,” Kagome said darkly. Inuyasha looked sideways at her, wondering why her voice had such an odd tone to it. He missed her implication that he had gone back during the morning to see Kikyo.
“Keh,” He muttered and followed her into the kitchen. Mrs. Higurashi smiled brightly at them as they sat down. She walked over with a plate full of scrambled eggs and a cup of ramen. Kagome and Inuyasha both dove hungrily into their food. In no time they had both finished, Inuyasha giving Kagome a disgusted look.
“Ugh, stupid wench, you've got food all over your face.” Kagome blushed and wiped it off.
“Well I was hungry! You didn't let us stop for lunch or dinner yesterday! Besides, you've got noodles all over your shirt,” The girl shot back, getting up to help her mother wash dishes. “Where is Souta?”
“He left for school a little while ago,” Mrs. Higurashi answered. She dipped a plate into a sink full of soapy water. Sunlight glinted in through the open window, making the bubbles glisten in rainbow colors.
“School? It's summer! What's he doing at school?” Kagome asked in confusion. She took a dripping cup from her mother and set about to dry it. She didn't notice Inuyasha sneak his way back outside.
“He failed math dear, remember? Too many video games, I think. He really enjoyed playing against Inuyasha,” Kagome's mom answered, shooting a knowing glance at the escaping hanyou. Inuyasha's ears swiveled her way and he smiled sheepishly, dashing outside. Kagome smiled.
“Oh yeah, that's right. I forgot about that.” Kagome and her mother finished washing and drying the dishes and went their separate ways. Mrs. Higurashi had to run to the store while Kagome gathered a few supplies for her newest trip to the Feudal Era. She expected Inuyasha would want her to stay for a fairly long time, so she reminded herself to bring extra supplies. She added another first aid kit and some cleaning supplies for herself and Sango. She also didn't have much pocky left, so she thought to herself about giving just a little to Shippo every now and then.
“What's taking so long, wench?” A gruff, annoyed voice suddenly sounded out from behind her. Kagome barely acknowledged him.
“I'm packing, what does it look like?” She retorted back, stuffing in some gauze and Neosporin.
“Well hurry up, it's getting late,” Inuyasha said. He shoved his hands into his sleeves and looked agitated.
“Alright, alright, I just… gotta… close… this stupid… bag!” Kagome huffed, tugging on the cover and buckle of the large yellow backpack at every pause. Inuyasha rolled his eyes and snorted, shoving Kagome out of the way and tugging the thing close with effortlessness. Kagome stood up and smiled.
“Thanks.”
“Keh.”
All Kagome did was smile again as she followed him out to the well house.
::-::
“I'm bored!”
“Patience is a virtue, Shippo.”
“Yeah, but I'm still bored.”
Miroku made a face into his cup of tea at Shippo's answer. Sango laughed and continued to polish Hiraikotsu. It had only been a few days since Kagome left for her “vacation,” but already Shippo was restless. Inuyasha had been unbearable. Thank goodness he had left last night to go fetch her. Sango didn't think she could take much more of his whining and anger. Sudden movement caught the demon-slaryer's eye.
Miroku set his cup down and stretched his arms, throwing them in a wide arc. They descended and his cursed right hand came down unnecessarily close to her rear. She shot him an angry glare. He smiled goofily at her.
“My dear Sango, what look is that to cross your pretty face?” He asked sweetly, leaning back on his hands. Sango scowled harder.
“Keep your hands to yourself, Houshi,” She muttered, scooting away from him. He frowned and feigned a look of hurt.
“Why, whatever are you talking about, Sango?” Sango glared at his act.
“You know what I'm—” She was suddenly cut off by Shippo, who jumped up and began sniffing the air. A large smile broke through his features.
“Kagome's back!” He cried happily, bounding towards the well. His red-brown hair flied wildly around his head. Sango watched him go, smiling slightly as Kirara mewled and chased after him, glad for any reason to stretch her small legs. Sango's smile, however, was short lived as she felt a soft, gentle pressure on her rear. She spun her torso around, her hand flying out to nearly behead the poor monk. Miroku spun on his bum and landed on his back with a loud thump!
“Tch, I told you to keep your hands to yourself, Houshi,” Sango spat, returning to polish Hiraikotsu. Miroku groaned in pain, holding up his hand to lightly touch his glowing cheek, thinking to himself, `It is always worth the pain…'
::-::
Inuyasha heaved Kagome out of the well, shouldering her backpack as he not-so-gently dropped her on the ground. She stumbled a bit, threw him a glare, but didn't say anything. `If he's going to be grumpy for no reason, then whatever. No use making things worse by starting an argument,” Kagome mused to herself, smiling as she saw Shippo bound through the undergrowth slightly out of breath.
“Kagome! You're back!” He shouted, leaping into her arms. She caught him and gave him an affectionate squeeze while Inuyasha glared.
“Keh, stupid runt,” He muttered and set off at a brisk pace. Kagome had to job to keep up with him. Shippo's smile faded as he slid his glance over to the irate hanyou.
“And what's your problem now? Kagome's back, so everything's good now!” He asked, cuddling into Kagome's arms. Kagome blushed and smiled at the kit's words. Inuyasha snorted and looked away. Shippo smiled triumphantly making his bright blue eyes shine.
“Well? Aren't you gonna answer me?” Shippo pressed, nearly sneering at Inuyasha. Kagome stared at the little kitsune in her arms. `Now what has Inuyasha done to make Shippo act so nasty?' She thought to herself and sighed. `Well, I better make sure it doesn't get any worse.'
“Shippo, be nice,” She scolded softly. The little boy turned to look at her with narrowed eyes.
“But he was mean to me before!” The boy whined, pouting. Kagome opened her mouth to tell Shippo that doesn't mean he should be nasty right back, but Inuyasha beat her to it.
“I was not mean to you, you stupid runt,” The hanyou growled. Shippo growled right back. If her arms weren't already holding Shippo, Kagome mostly likely would have begun to rub her temples.
“You were too! You called me stupid and hit me on the head when I asked if you were going to get Kagome yesterday!” Shippo shouted, jumping from Kagome's arms to the hanyou's shoulders. Inuyasha's cheeks reddened slightly.
“You were annoying me, brat!” Inuyasha huffed. The both glared at each other, looking as though they were going to attack when a small mewling interrupted them.
“Kirara!” Kagome cried happily, bending down to pick up the small yellow cat-demon. Kirara chirped happily as the young miko ran her fingers through her soft fur. The village came into view and they trekked slowly through the small huts and farm fields in a tense silence.
Kagome walked into Keade's hut with Inuyasha and Shippo trailing behind her, still glaring at each other. Miroku was lying motionless on the ground with a spilt cup of tea pooling around him, but neither Sango nor Keade looked worried. The young demon hunter looked thoroughly miffed, sipping her tea through pursed lips and throwing scowls at the unconscious monk. Keade was mixing something fowl-smelling in a small pot that was hung over the fire.
“Ugh, what is that horrible stench, hag?” Inuyasha gagged, slapping his sleeve to his face. Shippo retched and ran outside. Kagome threw a worried look at the door, but Keade interrupted.
“Do not worry, Child, he will be alright,” She said looking apologetic. “A villager has fallen ill with a rare disease and this drink is the only cure. I believe it is rather disagreeable with demons.” Inuyasha made a face and stalked outside. Miroku was coming to and Sango made sure there was plenty of room between. The monk looked in confusion at his tea-soaked robes, until he saw Kagome.
“Oh hello Kagome! Back already?” She nodded. “It's rather early, isn't it?” He greeted, getting up to wring out the moisture from his clothes. Sango hid her smile behind her cup.
“You were out for quite a while, Houshi. It's rather late,” She murmured, giggling silently. Miroku made a face.
“Is it now? I guess I should not be surprised, in receiving such a loving touch from such a strong woman as yourself,” He charmed. Sango blushed. A high-pitched screech had everyone's heads turning to the door. Prior conversation was forgotten as Miroku, Sango and Kagome all dashed outside, leaving Keade to peer from the doorway. A blood-spattered Shippo came running up to Kagome.
She gasped and knelt down to look him over, disbelief and shock shining in her eyes. “Shippo! What happened? Are you ok? Are you hurt?” The young kitsune wiped some of the dark liquid off of his face and panted heavily.
“Ka-Kagome, I'm ok, but, but there's this demon over-over there with Inuyasha and some villagers!” Sango and Miroku both were instantly off at a sprint in the direction Shippo pointed. Kagome pulled the boy to her, wiping blood off of his skin, checking him over for injuries.
“You look fine, but where'd all this blood come from?” Kagome asked him. He turned to the way Sango and Miroku had run. Kagome got up to follow him but felt a soft pressure on her shoulder. Keade looked up at her, handing her a bow and a quiver of arrows.
“Hurry, my child. I shall catch up with ye soon. You must go help!” Kagome nodded and took off with Shippo gripping desperately onto her shoulder. She weaved in and out of huts, knowing she was going in the right direction as damage began to appear. The wood on the sides of homes were cracked and smashed from some unknown impact, others having whole chunks taken out of them. Broken pieces of wood and splinters littered the ground, and soon screams and shouts could be heard. Dark splotches turned up here and there, and whole huts were gone.
Kagome turned a corner to find the gruesome battle at hand. Many of the village men surrounded what look to be a snake youkai, hissing and spitting at anyone that came close enough. She started forward to help, but her foot caught on something and she stumbled. Turning to look she screamed at what she saw.
It was the remains of a villager. At least she thought it was. The skull was cracked and bleeding and the entire jaw had been torn off, blood and tissue hanging down in front of what should have been a throat. The wind pipe and esophagus had been stripped out leaving the spine and collar bone exposed. One arm had been ripped off and the other bent at a disturbing angle. Two large gashes in the stomach had entrails spilling out. Blood was pooling out in unbelievable amounts.
Kagome turned from the disfigured body only to find that there were many more littered around. She shakily got to her feet, feeling rather sick. A large bone boomerang came whizzing past her ear, slamming into the large green demon that had begun to charge. Small nicks and gashes covered its body, but nothing seemed to slow it down. Miroku came up to help her and Shippo, looking rather green himself. Hiraikotsu flew back behind them, being caught expertly by Sango, who was dragged back a few feet into the remains of another body.
“Wha-what happened?” Kagome choked out, trying to keep herself from vomiting. Shippo buried himself in her shoulder.
“This demon attacked the village! The problem is, is that it came in from the field side, so it met all the farmers first! But it really only seems to be interested in Inuyasha!” Miroku shouted above the screams and screeches. He pointed toward the bloodied hanyou, who was trying to tempt the snake demon more towards the fields than the rest of the village. Its slanted yellow eyes followed him, but its body did not seem to want to. Inuyasha charged forward, Tetsusaiga out at ready. He pulled back, searching for the slot for the Wind Scar, but before he could find it, the demon lashed out and caught him by the shoulder. Its fangs sunk deep, hurling itself head first into the ground. Inuyasha cried out in pain, but slashed at the youkai's eyes. It roared and reared back, both its fangs detaching and sticking into the hanyou at odd angles.
Inuyasha rolled over and coughed out much more blood than he should have. Kagome screamed, running forward and notching an arrow at the same time. The demon heard her footsteps and turned to face her. She quickly aimed for between the eyes, pulling back and letting go of the string. The arrow shot forward in a pink light and landed a little left of its intended destination, but the damage was done. Scales and tissue began to burn off, smelling horribly and filling the area with a thick smoke. Inuyasha got up through the pain in his shoulder and ran forward, raising Tetsusaiga and bringing it down in fervor. The Wind Scar erupted from it, tearing through the demon in a large spatter of blood and organs. He landed and panted for a moment, making sure the demon was dead when the two fangs on his back exploded in a golden dust, getting into his eyes, nose and mouth. He choked and fell to the ground, unable to breathe or move. The thick black smoke enveloped him and he tried to cry out in pain.
“Ka-Kagome!” Screams and yells fell away and the world became unearthly silent. Fire ran up and down his veins, his head was spinning.
After three beats from his tired heart, a deep, soft voice cooed into his head, “Sorry Inuyasha, but she will no longer be there to help you.” The hanyou struggled desperately with his lame body, adrenaline filling his bloodstream and sending him into frenzied fear that Kagome might be hurt. But darkness was clouding his vision and his limbs were beginning to feel like lead. He could barely breathe; he was suffocating on his own blood.
There was nothing he could do but wait to die.

A/N: Well, there you go! First chapter of the new fanfic I'm writing! It has been a while, hasn't it? Well, sad to say that my other one is now officially abandoned.
