Two Goths, A Relationship, And A Drugstore

Chapter Two- Would You Like Fries With That?

Kagome sighed contently as she stretched across her huge, soft and puffy hotel bed. She hugged her pillow tightly and sighed again in happiness.

"Ah, this is the life..." She giggled. She'd been in New York for a few days now. It was definately a vacation well deserved. Spending time in the Feudal Era was a nice vacation from school and all, but spending time away from school AND fighting demons all the time was a luxury to Kagome.

Kagome had done a ton of sight seeing, wearing her feet down to large red swells every night. Combined in that was the ever mood lightening shopping with her mom's plastic, wonderful hassle-free meals, and great sleeps on cozy cozy beds. She was starting to grow accustomed to this life, and would probably cry the day she had to leave it behind.

"I wonder what Inuyasha is up to right now..." Kagome wondered, sitting up in her bed. He hadn't really crossed her mind that much so far, except for the occasional `Inuyasha would like that,' or `This is far better than the feudal era!'. But now she had to wonder just what he'd been up to. "Oh! And tonight's the new moon! I hope he's ok..." she recalled.

He would be human tonight, but Kagome was sure he'd be able to take care of himself. He had just about every time before! "He's probably very bored..." She thought. With no jewel-finder, killing demons at random would probably not be an option. And she didn't know how he'd react without his weekly Ramen rampage.

"Oh well, I can't think about him while I'm on vacation!! As long as I get him a little present or something, I'm sure he'll be satisfied. Besides, I like to keep him on his toes....distance makes the heart grow fonder!" She giggled at the memory of his pouty face when she'd told him she was leaving for a while.

Lying back down on the bed, Kagome snuggled under the covers. `I bet when I get back, he'll be there waiting...and he'll give me a nice, warm hug...' she thought as she quickly drifted to sleep. She hoped that maybe, just maybe, she'd have a dream about him tonight.

Inuyasha's amber eyes looked over the wooden sign hanging above a large building, which had a fairly large congregation of people swarming in front of it. The sign read `McDonalds' on it in big, golden letters.

"Well, it's not the fanciest restaraunt in the world, but I like it and it'll do. Right?" Ishtar gave Inuyasha a friendly smile. He couldn't explain it, but his heart seemed to skip a few beats when he saw her pretty face smiling up at him.

"Yes, I believe it will." He grinned back at her. "But uh...I'm afraid I don't have any money at the moment. I um...traveled a long way and somehow lost it along the way. I'm really sorry..." He could feel his face reddening, and he looked down at his feet, ashamed.

"Oh, well that's alright. It's not that expensive, really! And today was payday at work, so I have some extra cash sitting in my pocket. Oh, that reminds me..." She looped her arm around his as she talked, and began pushing through the crowd of people so that they could sit down in the building. When they finally pushed through the doors, she surveyed the room for a clean and empty table. Finding one, she trotted them over to it and plopped down in on of the seats. Inuyasha sat down in the brown, metal chair across from her. "So how long are you staying here? Did you move here? Cuz I've never seen you before. I mean, I don't go to school anymore, but I still know a lot of people."

"Well, I just got here today. I'm not sure really how long I'm staying, just until I'm ready to leave I guess." She nodded at his response, tucking her fist under her chin. There was an akward silence as they both struggled to think of something to say.

"I'll uh...go order now I suppose." Ishtar decided, pushing back her chair. She stood up, looking down at Inuyasha. "What do you want me to order for you?"

"Uh...well, I'll have that...that thing..." Inuyasha stumbled for a response- he'd never been here before and didn't know much of what Kagome's time had to eat. "I'll just have whatever you're having." He congratulated himself on his sudden thought; she seemed satisfied with his answer. She walked away from the table and got behind a group of people standing in a line behind a counter.

Inuyasha leaned back in his chair and gave a sigh. He couldn't help thinking how Ishtar might react when he just dissappeared the next day, for he had to go back to his time. But the thought of leaving Ishtar sort of bugged him-he was having fun and he didn't want to have to end it. Besides, Kagome wouldn't be back for about another week! He could still stick around here....

`But you're a half-demon....You're only human for one night...' His mind said degradingly to him. There's no way he could live in Kagome's time as a hanyou...he might be able to put on a disguise for a day or two live he'd done a few times before, but more than that and Ishtar would start to wonder.

"Heeere we are! I got us the two cheeseburger value meal." Ishtar startled him, bringing him out of his thoughts and back to the table where she had placed a tray covered in food. The scents tingled at his nose, causing his stomach to give an unexpected grumble. "Looks like it's just in time too!" She said smiling, hearing his stomach.

She seperated the food, putting his items in front of him and hers in front of her. She stuck a red striped straw into a tall, soda filled cup and put it in the middle of them. They both silently unwrapped their food and began munching on it, alternately taking sips from the cup.

"So...you said you have a job?" Inuyasha asked after a few moments of akward silence. Ishtar swallowed her bite of cheeseburger and took a sip of the coke.

"Yeah! It's not all that great, but it pays. I actually have two jobs. One is a cashier, and the other is...well...um..." Ishtar's face flushed a deep scarlet colour, and she hastily took a large drink of soda to stall.

"Is....?" Inuyasha asked, curiousity picking at his brain. He had to know, now that she had mentioned it. "Whatever it is, don't be ashamed. It's alright."

"Um...well...I'm a..." She lowered her voice dramatically and leaned in closer to Inuyasha, who involuntarily moved in closer. "prostitute." She murmered, her face going back to it's deep scarlet state. Inuyasha's eyes widened and his face jerked away from hers. He didn't know much about Kagome's time, but prostitutes were in his time too. Miroku had often gone to them, and that's basically how Inuyasha knew about them.

Inuyasha felt a pang in his heart at her words. He wasn't sure what to feel of her now, he didn't have her all to himself. How special was he to her if she voluntarily sold her body everyday? How many nasty old men and freaks had once before entered her, touched her, tasted her?

"No..." He whispered, not making eye contact with her. He pushed back his chair and stood up, his head bent, hiding his eyes. He grabbed her wrist, pulling her up, and walked towards the exit, Ishtar trailing confusedly behind him. He pushed through the doors and looked around, then headed towards a quiet area beside the restaraunt. "No..." He whispered again, allowing her wrist to drop limply back to her side.

"No what?" She asked tentatively. Her body was recieving several shivers, he was making her feel something she's never felt before. It was indescribable-she was cold, her heart dropping to her stomach, and tears threatened her eyes.

"I...I don't want you to do that anymore." He spoke quietly, still hiding his eyes.

"But why? It's my life!" She said angrily, gritting her teeth. Who was this guy to tell her what to do?!

"Because! I want you all to myself!" He shouted out at her, lifting his face to reveal a hurt expression. He took a quick step towards her, lifting his arms, then wrapped them aruond her tightly.

Ishtar stood frozen to the spot, her heart skipping beats. She could feel hot tears pouring down her face and tracing her lips. She shakily wrapped her arms around his torso and shut her eyes tightly. "If that's what you wish....I'll do it..." She said softly into his ear.

She pulled her head from his shoulder and looked into his brown eyes. Her mind and thoughts seemed to leave her as she closed her eyes again and moved forward, pressing her soft lips to his.
