Two Halves, One Whole
It was as if she were watching her own demise in some strange out of body experience. In the back of her mind she could hear Inuyasha battling Naraku, trying desperately to save the woman that he loved, but she paid no attention to him.
She forgot everything around her as she stood looking at Kikyo’s lifeless body impaled on Naraku’s claws. She was transfixed by the ghostly white face that was like her own but not. The bow she held nearly fell from her numb fingertips as she stared in horror.
The bow! She could still save Kikyo.
She reached for an arrow from her quill. Damn, only one left! She would only get one chance. As she was lifting the arrow to the bow, she saw Kikyo’s eyes flash open and she mouthed the word “wait”.
She doesn’t want me to use it yet! Why? What am I waiting for?
Suddenly Kikyo’s wounded body fell from Naraku’s grasp and she watched as Inuyasha caught her in midair. The image played out before her in slow motion as if in a dream, or in this case a nightmare. Briefly, she focused her attention back on the battle at hand. Inuyasha had cut a large hole in Naraku’s body and there in the middle was the Shikon.
She could see it!
Slowly the wound began to close and the aura of the jewel was disappearing. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Kouga leapt forward in a last ditch effort to purify the jewel and Naraku with his own pure shards.
“Now, Kagome!”
She turned startled eyes to Kikyo. The priestess was looking at the bow in Kagome’s hands. Kagome nodded in understanding. Without hesitation, she took aim and quickly released the arrow. It missed Kouga by inches and slammed into Naraku’s chest.
Caught by surprise, he could only stare at her as his body slowly dissipated into the wind. The purified jewel fell to the ground beneath him.
Slowly, he walked toward her. “You did it, Kagome. It’s over now.” Pulling her chin up he looked into her eyes. Cold brown eyes peered back at him.
“Inuyasha,” she said in a hauntingly familiar voice. “Are you ready to go to Hell with me?”

Inuyasha was still holding Kikyo when the souls began to leave her in a flash of light. He watched as Kagome was knocked to the ground as the rest of her soul was returned to her. Looking down he could see the peaceful smile on Kikyo’s face as she slowly returned to dust. He was left with nothing but her clothes remaining in his arms. Dropping them, he turned to Kagome. She was holding the nearly completed jewel in front of her, the bangs of her hair shading her eyes as she stared at it.Slowly, he walked toward her. “You did it, Kagome.
