Three days had passed since I had embarrassed myself to no end. After all it wasn't everyday that I made a fool of myself in front of Inuyasha by having him catch me saying `marriage' and `Inuyasha' in the same sentence.
Since then, my embarrassment had somewhat died down and I was now able to hold a normal conversation with Inuyasha, well as normal as it could get. And now with the festival only a few days away my mother made it her job to insure that I had the most beautiful dress. The result was that she was taking me into town herself to help me find one.
I assumed that my mother had been the one to explain to Inuyasha what he had gotten himself into. He never said a word to me about the festival but I had overheard a few conversations of him asking my mother what he would have to wear, and asking Sota what the big deal was about this thingy and if that `Hobo' guy would be there.
Two days earlier mother had taken Inuyasha to find the proper attire at a tuxedo store in Nagano. When Inuyasha had returned, he dropped to the shrine steps and kissed them, thanking the fates for allowing him to live that frightening experience.
My mother explained to me later that she had taken him on a bullet train and he didn't seem too fond of it. It just may have been a bit too stressful for a human hanyou to ride on a train going more than 300km/h with hundreds of people crammed into a small compartment.
None the less, after that spectacle he never complained about the festival again. I assumed that my mother had gone through the entire situation with him, and that was why he wasn't asking me any questions. So, I simply concentrated on other things, like school.
Tuesday afternoon seemed to be like any other, only as I climbed up the steps my mother was already there with a purse and dressed comfortably. I really had hoped she wasn't about to suggest what I think she was. After all it was a school night; surely she wouldn't jeopardize my school by keeping me out late right?
The smile on her face made me think otherwise. “Kagome go upstairs and change we have to go buy your dress!” With her giddy voice she pulled me up the rest of the way and tossed me into the house, not giving me a second to retaliate.
Defeat was once again my middle name as I went upstairs and began picking out some clothes. After deciding on some low rise jeans, red flip flops and a red tank I began changing thinking nothing of it. As I pulled my shirt over my head I heard a very familiar voice from not too far away.
“Do you always give a free show?”
Spinning around and clutching my shirt to my chest, I saw Inuyasha sitting on the branch of the tree right in his fire rat robe outside my window with the pastel curtains flowing in the wind making him seem like he was there to rescue me. I scolded myself for forgetting that it was his 2nd favorite thinking place.
Tired of being so embarrassed I decided to play it cool and maybe throw him off for once. Batting my lashes I removed my uniform shirt from my chest and simply continued getting dressed saying, “Only for the ones I really like.”
I knew my face was as red as my shirt for my risqué behavior but I had to be strong. Sure enough he seemed quite speechless and he didn't say a word for the rest of my `show'. After all the man had seen me naked on a few occasions, all on accident of course. Slipping on my shoes I tied my hair back in a high pony tail before braving confrontation. I turned around and found Inuyasha no longer looking at me instead he was now sitting against the bark with his arms crossed and eyes closed.
Had I said something wrong? “Inuyasha I'm going into town with my mother to buy stuff okay? I'll be back kind of late so will you keep an eye on Sota for me?”
Without waiting for a response I shouted a quick thank you over my shoulder and ran back downstairs. All the while worrying if I had maybe crossed the line with that last comment; surely I hadn't, surely this was just Inuyasha mad because he didn't have a smart ass comment to say. After all he always said stuff to me that made me feel uncomfortable, well, mostly when he was a human.
Either way I still thought about it the way to the shop, only half listening to my mother. It was then that I realized that now I had the perfect opportunity to ask my mother how she had convinced Inuyasha to go to the dance with me, without having him around.
“Hey Mama, what did you tell Inuyasha that made him want to go with me to the dance?”
Apparently I was way off topic because her face held confusion before moving on to that smirk she had picked up from Inuyasha. “What do you mean dear? I simply told him that it was a very special thing for all young girls and to go you needed a friend for a date. Then he asked my why you hadn't asked him and I explained that you didn't want to go and I had just talked you into it moments before he entered.”
“Yeah and what else?”
“Kagome honestly your feelings are so transparent can't you trust your mother at all?” Huffing and shaking her head she continued, “And then he simply said I'll go with her, if she really wants to go. And I told him it would be marvelous and then we discussed what this date would entail.”
Oh no, what had we gotten ourselves into. “Mama what are you talking about we're going, taking pictures, sitting at a table for a while and then we're coming home!”
Her face tightened but her smile didn't leave her face, “Kagome I thought we agreed you would try to enjoy this situation, and I thought that now since you had Inuyasha escorting you, you'd put forth the effort.”
“Mama what did you tell him he had to do?” Could I really hear what she had to say? Why was I so scared of her answer?

Thank you so much to the reviewers, and I'm terribly sorry I haven't updated but life is complicated. I apologize for the shortness of this chapter but in the next chapter we find out what Kagome's mother has planned and the dance!
