Unbreak My Heart

The sound of sobbing broke the peace of the early morning. A distraught figure sat at the base of an enormous aged tree, her frail frame shaking with the force of her sorrow. Her slender arms were wrapped around her upraised knees, providing a haven for her tear-streaked face as she cried out her misery.

"Today I lose you forever. I thought I could be happy for you. I really did. I thought that as long as you were happy, I was happy. But the truth of the matter is, I'm losing you to another woman because of my own stupidity and I just want to die. The thought of you sharing her life and her bed, your lips on her lips, your hands on her body … Oh, InuYasha, I'm so sorry!" Kagome wailed, her voice thick with tears of remorse and regret.

"I should have told you how I felt. You and I were so close, best friends even, but I know in my heart that there could have been something more had we both not been so damned stubborn. I pushed you away and now my heart will pay the price for my foolishness." Kagome lifted her dark head, her raven locks swaying lazily in the light breeze. Leaning her head back against the rough bark of the tree, she closed her chocolate eyes against the cheerfulness of the early autumn morning, neither unable nor unwilling to stop the torrent of words that poured forth from her tattered soul.

"I love you so much, InuYasha, so damned much. I wish I could … I wish you were here with me right now. If you were, I swear to you by all that's holy, I'd show you just what you mean to me." She murmured brokenly.

"Do you really mean that?" Kagome's eyes snapped open in shock. Her breath caught as she drank in the sight of him standing before her. Even dressed as he was in baggie sweats and a tee shirt he was still a god. His heavy, silver mane cascaded over his broad shoulders as he stooped to kneel in front of her. Golden orbs caught and held hers as his warm hand lifted to cup her cheek lovingly.

"Wha … Inuyasha, what happened? Why are you here?" Kagome's cheek tingled where his calloused palm caressed her smooth jaw.

"I couldn't do it, Kagome. I simply could not go through with it. How could I pledge my life, my heart, and my soul to another woman when they weren't even mine to give?" InuYasha chuckled softly at her confused expression. Leaning forward, he pressed his soft lips to her forehead, cheeks, nose, eyelids, and her chin. Smiling at her flushed face, he rested his forehead against hers, his warm breath fanning her shocked visage.

"You see, I'd already given them to you," he murmured as he lowered his eager mouth to hers.
