Kagome had returned to her era after a short, and breif good bye with InuYasha. He seemed to understand that she was hurting inside, and from that, Kagome couldnt help but smile. InuYasha was never one to give in easily.

Kagome switched into a cleaner outfit for school, and then greeted her mom as she walked down the stairs. It had seemed like forever since she was last in her era. Things were so diffrent here than when she was InuYasha. When ever she came back home, she always seemed to cough, for the air was always so filthy and polluted. She stared at her self in the mirror and frowned. She resented her look for many reasons. Most likely, it was because it is said, that she and Kikyo look alike. She never knew if InuYasha was looking at her, or at Kikyo. Kagome pulled her brush down her jet black hair, and then set it down on her desk. If she didnt hurry, she was never going to get to school.

Kagome slowly walked down the stairs to see her mom cleaning up after breakfast. Souta was still at the table, so she couldn't have been too late.

"Mom?"

"Oh, Kagome! Its so good to see you. When did you get back?"

"Not to long ago. Can you drive me to school mom?"

"Ofcourse darling. Have you had breakfast yet?"

"Yeah, Kaeda made some for InuYasha and the rest of us."

"Who is Kaeda?"

"She is a Miko that lives in the village near the well. She is really nice."

"Oh." Kagomes mother got a pang of saddness, that some one else, and not she, was careing for her daughter.

"Does she cook for you often?"

"When ever we stay the night there. Every thing we eat is vegitarian. We have to go, or I will never get there on time!"

"Sure thing." Her mom said with a smile.

Her mother drove her down to school and handed her a late note. As Kagome picked up her yellow back pack from the car, she waved off as her mother drove by.
The school bell rang, claiming that in was time for second peirod. She ran towards the school with things on her mind, none of which concerned school.

As she entered, everyone was surprized to see Kagome standing breathless in the door way of the class room. On que, her three friends came rushing towards her side, asking so many questions, her head started to spin.

"Kagome!" Her three friends greeted her as they called out in unison.

"It has been so long since we saw you!"

"Are you feeling any better?"

"Why are you so late Kagome?"

"Guys, I'm fine, I just didn't wake up early enough." All four of their heas turned when another familar came streaming into their conversation.

"Kagome!" Hojo called out.

"Its great to see you! Are you feeling any better?"

"Yes, I'm feeling fine. How are you?"

"I'm feeling good! I'm so glad that your back!" Hojo said with a smile, ear to ear.

"Me too Hojo." Kagome replyed as she lied through her teeth. school had become sucha chore for her.

"Hey! Great! Are you well enough to go out on a date with me tomorrow at wacdnolds? At about noon?"

"I...Uh..." 'I am supposed to go back home to the fuedal era.... did I just call the fuedal era home? I guess it is.' A small smile came to Kagomes lips, and her friends questioned her.

"She'd love to." Eri said for her, stepping in.

"Great! I'll see you then!" Hojo walked off to his next class with a grin.

"Why'd you set me up like that?"

"You need a guy like Hojo around, not some selfish, arrogent jerk."

"Actually, thats what I came here to talk to you about. I need your help.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome sat with her back to the wall faceing her three friends. Wacdnolds had become their meeting to talk about her problems. She shifted uncomfortably on the red cushion set. Ayumi sat across, faceing her. Yuka and Eri sat with their backs to the window of their booth. Eri and Yuka seemed too enthusiastic to hear about her problems that involved her broken heart. To them it seemed like a game, but to Kagome, this was very real.
"So Kagome, what was it that you needed our help about?" Asked Yuka, reading the question on everyones mind.
"Yeah, spill." replyed the demanding Eri.
"Well, I, just... I'm confused."
"Confused about what?" Ayumi asked sweetly.
"Are you talking about that selfish, controlling nut-bar?" Asked Yuka, dominateing the conversation.
"Hes not a nut-bar." Kagome replyed, trying her best to make her friends understand the situation.
"Well, he seems like one."
"He's not. He is strong, and brave, and he is really starting to open up to me."
"Are you confused who you like more? Hojo, or that other guy?"
'Like there is any contest.' Kagome thought to herself.
"Yeah, but you said that he was a jerk, and totally hung up about his ex."
"I came to you guys to vent my anger, sure he can be those things, and it doesnt take much to push him over the limit, but..."
"What about his ex?" Eri said with a smirk.
"He is really hung over her. He cant forget her. Maybe its because she wont let him."
"How so?" Ayumi said.
"She was his first love, can you ever forget your first love?" Kagome said, chooseing her words carefully.
Everyone looked at each other for a breif moment.
"Your defending him like your in love with him Kagome." Yuka said sadly.
"What if I think I am?"
"How do you know when your in love? Define it for me." Eri stated.
"To me, love is strong, over comming obsticals, and a feeling that you were missing some thing, until you found that person. I would give my life for him, I would give him my last ounce of strength, if it ment he would live and be okay. I would do anything so that he isnt dragged off to hel-" Kagome observed the faces of her friends.
"You also need trust. Without trust, you have nothing. And I do trust him, but every time his ex comes around, he goes to see her. No matter if it breaks my heart. He doesnt mean to, its just something he has to do."
"Its as if you trust him to break your heart." Ayumi stated with a sad smile. Kagome gave a small nod.
"Where is this all comming from Kagome?" One of them asked suddenly.
"My heart."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It had been a day since Kagome had left, and it was already lunch time. Why was she always late and make him worry? When he thought back, she seemed sad
and hurt. InuYasha had traveled 500 years to retrive this girl. She was so much trouble. Why did he come back and get her? If he just didn't get her she couldn't 'sit' him anymore, she couldn't argue with him anymore. The shards of the Shikon No Tama would all belong to him. But most of all, she wouldn't be able to make him feel this unexplainable guilt and emotion he got when ever he made her sad. 'I would be happy to loose that feeling.' He said to himself. But then, there was that feeling she gave him when ever she smiled, or laughed. But he wasnt supposed to be happy, he had to full fill his promised duitys. Even when he has to deny Kagomes heart, and his own.

"Huh! Hey InuYasha! Its me! Kagomes kid brother Souta."

"Hey, where is Kagome?"

"Oh, I'm afraid shes not here right now. She left about 15 minutes ago on a date."

"Whats a... date?" InuYasha asked confused.

"Huh? Oh, a date is when a boy takes a girl out to know them better, ya know, when two people are going out."

"WHAT! WITH WHO?"

"Some guy named Hojo."

"Hojo?" 'No wonder she wants to get back here so bad!'

"Hey kid, do you know when Kagome will be back?"

"Yeah, its about noon now, they went to lunch, so probaly another hour. Why?"

"No reason." 'Why would Kagome go out on a date? Espically after that hug she gave me? Was she just trying to make me let her go?'

"Are you going to wait here till Kagome comes back?"

"Yeah." He replyed stubbornly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome was down at Wacdnalds, sitting across the hottest guy in school on a date. She didnt want to be here, but she figured she blew off the poor guy one to many times, and she felt bad for him. He was sweet, but not who she wanted. She would just have to stick it out this time. Kagome kept glanceing at the clock, wondering how much longer this date would have to drag on for. She was worried that InuYasha might be mad that she wasn't returning home on time.
"Are you okay Kagome? You seem anxious."
She braved a smile.
"Yeah, I'm just fine, why?"
"No...no reason. You seem kinda paranoid. Did I do something?
"No, Hojo, its not anything like that."
"Oh, okay then. As long as your okay." He covered her hand with his, and smiled.
As the date drew to a close, Hojo walked her home. He stood at her door awaiting his payment of good behavior and mannors. Had he not paid for lunch and treated her kindly? A kiss on the first date was commen to him. But Kagome was diffrent. He cared for her more than anyone else in the school. There was an odd detremanation in him to claim her as his own. Everyone in school no longer harbored desires for her, Hojo had made his mark on her. And when he did that, no one was to touch the girl. Sure it may seem crude, and it did seem to taint Hojos reputation, but it did not matter. He was protective of those he cared for, and that weak, nice boy could become a slightly fearsome man if needed be. He had been on several dates with Kagome, but this was the longest they had been together. This was also the longest amount of time he had spent with a girl who didnt seem to make a move on him, and he was growing sick of waiting. But the problem was, he wanted to so much more than just sit, and cover her hand with his, he wanted to claim her. And hw couldnt do that if they weren't even kissing yet. Hojo leaned forward. As he did so, InuYashas ears twitched. 'Thats Kagomes scent. Shes back. Wait, there is someone elses scent here too.'
"Hojo... wait..."
But Hojo heard none of this. He always got what he wanted, and he wanted Kagome. Moreso than anything he had ever wanted before. He was now only centimeters from her face, as she leaned back into the door, she began to try and reason with him agian, but it was useless. Hojo just shrugged it off like it was nothing.
"Hojo!" She tried at to find the knob of the door. But it was suddenly thrust open by InuYasha, causeing Kagome to be thrown backwards into his arms. He caught her without haste. He immediatly asked her if she was alright, and what she had been screaming about, when he noticed Hojo. Now he was mad.
"InuYasha!" Kagome let out a cry as she fell back into him, holding onto him. It was more a plea of thanks than surprize.
"Who is this Kagome?" The words were of Hojo, who was as equally shocked that he was there as she was. He seemed almost sad.
"Kagome? Who is he?" InuYasha said in a demanding voice.
"Ah....This is Hojo."
"What is he doing here?" 'So this is Hojo? What a weakling! And she wanted to go out on a date with him?'
"Me? What am I doing here? What are you doing here? Are you a friend of Soutas?" Hojo was now questioning the situation
"I came to get Kagome. Now, what were you doing to her?"
"I came to get her? Where is she going? And I wasnt doing anything to her."
"No, I mean, why did you make her scream?"
"I dont really think that its any of your business. Kagome... Who is he?"
"Yeah, but the way I see it, it is my business." He started to growel.
"InuYasha! Please stop!" Kagome tried, putting a hand on his lower arm.
"InuYasha?" Hojo said quitely. "Is that your name? What are you doing here?" InuYasha groweled with resentment
"InuYasha, please! Hojo, you better go."
"What? Kagome, whats going on here?" Hojos voice was now very sad. He looked at Kagome who had stepped in front of InuYasha. Her hands were wrapped around his arms as if she was trying to hold him back. His hands were gripped on her upper arm.
"Kagome! Is he hurting you? Are you alright?"
"Hojo! Go, get out of here!" InuYasha was about to rip him into shreds. Hojo left with an angred look on his face. He walked down the stairs, but stopped and turned around in time to see Kagome trying to calm InuYasha. She put a hand to his face, with sad eyes. He looked at her and shook his head as he walked off. Kagomes eyes, brimming with tears, hit the ground. She wiped them away and closed the door. 'Huh! If I had Kagome I would treat her right.' Hojo thought. 'I will have her. Its only a matter of time, and a matter of planning. Im sure her friends have some thing to offer on that guy InuYasha. Yes, InuYasha, I left this time, but next time it is you who will leave.'
Back at the house, Kagome closed the door behind her, and faced InuYasha.
"Inu...Yasha..." She turned to look at him. She walked over in his direction and he turned.
"Come on InuYasha, do you think I really wanted to go out with him?"
"What?" He turned in surprize.
"I dont like Hojo like that."
"Then why did you go?"
"I felt sorry for him. My friends set us up, and I felt bad, I had to go."
"What was he doing to you Kagome?"
"He tried to kiss me. He had been makeing moves on me all day."
Unknowingly to InuYasha, he had started to growel.
"Its okay InuYasha. I'm not going out with him agian."
She paused. "What are you doing here anyway?"
InuYasha looked at her in disbelief.
"I came to bring you back! What do you think?!"
Kagome smiled at him and nodded. Her smile was contagious, and InuYasha couldnt help but feel warmer inside. 'She didnt want him? Figures.' He fought off a smile.
"I'll go get my bag."
The smile he had tried so hard to fight off came back, but this time he lost the battle.
Kagome went up stares and rummaged through her clothes, pulling out what ever was clean. She put them in the front part of her large yellow back pack. Taking her hair brush and battery operated hair dryer, she threw them in the largest compartment. She frowned when she realized she had to get new supplys. Thrusting her bag over her right shoulder, she walked down the stares to meet InuYasha.
"Ready now?"
"No, I still need to get the food." She said walking by him, into the kitchen. She threw in soda, chips, and other junk food.
"Uh-oh"
"What?" InuYasha asked
"Were out of Ramen. And Shippos donuts. I will have to go to the store."
"How long will you be?"
"Not long. Are you comming?"
"I'll pass." He said grumpily.
