Chapter 24
The wind began to pick up. It felt as if it was moving in one large circle. Naraku felt a strong presence move toward him.
An arrogant attitude with a subjective smirk began to form before his eyes. Koga met eye to eye with Narkau himself for the first time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome walked around with a sudden zeal that seemed to take root out of no where. As much as she wished to stop, and admire the world around her, she knew that she could not.
She would have stayed all day, and idolized the nature around her. Narakus castle had been such an imprisonment, even though she had stayed for such a short while. In all of her life, she had never felt so trapped and disconnected to the world. She refused to go back to that state.
'I will die first.' She promised her self.
If Narkau wanted her, he would have to be an excellent player. She did not intend on giving up that easily.
Why her? What stood out that made such a demon want a person such as her self? Kagome felt that she had no out standing quality's that set her apart from any other women in this era, or hers for that matter. She had the same features, the same physical aspects as any other female. So why did he want her?
'Because,' She thought inwardly 'I resemble Kikyo...' Some how, that same thought was unable to leave her head.
The young miko continued walking, in search of the shelter of InuYashas arms. It suddenly dawned on her.
'What am I to say when I do see InuYasha? He... We... kissed... Things are going to be so different... But they already are. Every thing has changed...'
In such a short time, Kagomes whole life had turned upside down. She was just unsure at the moment if it was for the better, or worse.
Chapter 25
Taro was the heart throb of all the woman, married and unwed. The eldest son of the head master, he was everything that one could dream of. He held the face of a man, a strong chin and a kind smile. He had a boyish charm, yet a manly strength to him that left him looking beautiful.
~~~
The young head master had turned, quite annoyed that he had to be interrupted. He was in the middle of talking to a woman twice his age, yet her laughter lines made her all the more attractive. He turned his head and caught eyes with the miko. Taro lost his breath.
He had never seen a more beautiful woman in all his years. Her flawless face was pale, and her deep chocolate eyes met his own. He tried to hold them in his possession for as long as he possibly could.
~~~
"Do you have a place to stay the night?"
"I am afraid not."
"Then I insist that you board here."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
InuYasha ran, even as he realized the day grow to night. He had no intention of stopping for that matter either. He just continued on with out end.
He needed to find Kagome. He refused to give her up. Especially to Naraku.
The thought of that monster loving her made his stomach turn.
But what about Kikyo? Would he go through the trouble of finding Kagome, only to say good bye? Could he tell her so?
His last attempt had ended in a kiss, a dangerous thing to do. How would she react to him now?
He had wanted to stay so badly, yet he fled like a coward off to a woman who wanted him to die rather than live.
As InuYasha ran, he realized he had to decided. The past, or the present?

Kagome took residence in Taros hut. It gave off an uneasy presence, yet she knew she had no option but to stay. Where would she go in the dead of night? And to that, who would she meet?
The preditors in the night were another matter all together. They loomed in the shadows, preying on anything smaller then they. Some for food, others rape. What ever ailed them- in the night- all was just. She could die, and who would know? Her's would be a murder left unsolved. All the things she had yet to do in life, it was far too much of a risk to go out in the middle of darkness, just because of an "uneasy feeling". Besides, wandering around in the pitch black was sure to have given her an uneasy feeling as well. Hers was truely a no win situation.
"Would you like some thing to eat Ms.Kagome?" Taro asked sweetly.
Kagome looked into his eyes. They seemed kind enough, but sly. Some sort of plan was unraveling undreath them. His grey eyes seemed stormy, and Kagome wondered what he could be thinking.
"No. Thank you. I couldn't." She said politely.
After all, she was in the head masters house. She must be polite and curdious. She would not want to impose on the young lord.
"None sense. You must be famished! How long since you last eatten a decent meal?"
Weeks since a decent meal.
"Only a few days." Kagome lied.
He seemed shell shocked.
"A few days! A few days! You must eat then. As the head master, I command it."
Kagome smiled politely, and nodded. She sipped her tea quitely.
Taro clapped his hands twice, and a servent came to him."
"Yes master." She said.
Shia was a woman of only 17. Her face was truely beautiful. She had black flowing hair and deep blue eyes. Her skin was fair, and her figure slim.
Taro had given her the job as a servent when she was 15. Her parents both dead from sickness, she was left alone in the world. Many of the villiagers had thought that Taro would take her in as a wife. Even at such a tender age, she had the look of a woman.
It was no surprize that Taro was attracted to Shia when she first started working. She was young, as he was. But she was timid. Not to mention uneducated and naive.
Shia saw Taro as a savor. A hero. For months, turning into years she worshiped him. He would call, an with out a second thought she ran to him whole heartedly.
Her eyes looked lovingly at Taro, and Kagome felt a sense of pitty wash over her. She knew that Taro was never going to think anything more of her than a simple servent.
"Ms. Kagome would like soemthing to eat. Fix her some thing."
Shia looked at Kagome and a wave of jealously came into her eyes. What was this woman doing here? Espically at this hour? Would she be the new mistress? Oh how that would shatter her heart.
"Yes." She bowed as she left.
Kagome dinned that night, better than she had in a long time. Yet it was all to strange, and all to awkward. And she couldnt help but wonder where her friends were.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
InuYasha seemed to have no control. He was mindlessly running. He was absolutely beside himself. Nothing made sense any more. Just days ago, Kagome was safe. At ease. And happy. Nothing could break her smile
'Except me. Damn it. Im so foolish!'
He had held Kagome in his arms once, sheltering her from her nightmares. That were all far to real. He gave a a sad laugh. It was a tragidy that had brought them together.
He was her hero once. He was her only refuge. He wished that was still so. It was all his fault, after all, that she was gone.
Just days ago he he kissed her. It had been the most wonderful, beautiful, sad moment he had ever lived. It wasnt fair. The second he finally was able to live out a part of his fantasys, he had to give it up. Nothing ever seemed to work out his way.
First he lost Kikyo-
'Kikyo...' His mind stammered. He always brought it back to her, didnt he?
He always ran to her when she called. No matter the price. He had made a promise to her, but that was so long ago. At the time, he would have gone to hell with her.
But Kagome had stopped him. He wouldnt admit it to any one but her, but in his heart, he was glad. Had he ever wanted to go? He knew that he deserved a life, and to be loved.
And all he asked for was Kagome.
He had ran back to Kikyo, time after time, because he was afraid. Afraid that she was all he had. She was beautiful, and she tried in the only way she knew to help. But she wasnt Kagome.
At one point in his life, he would have bent over back words for her. But he grew up. He finally understood that for love to work, for it blossem, both people had to feel it. Both people would have to be willing to sacrfice. Both people, would have to be obessed with the other. Love... love was an obession.
Theres nothing he wouldnt for Kagome. As soon as he found her, he would tell her that.
'Just hold on a little longer Kagome...'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome layed in an empty room. The walls bare, and the floor was cold. It was tasteless, and plain. Flowers decorated the corners of the small space, giving atleast some color to the scene. She laid on her matteress untired, cold and alone.
Outside she heard the patter of rain fall. She listened as the drops slid down the roof, and landed violently to the ground. Its continus pattern was becomming aggrivating. But all in all, she was thankful that she had a roof over her head, and she wasnt out side, vulnerable to any creature or man stronger than her.
But she had her own preditor inside. Through out all of dinner, Taro had made passes at her. And with every one she became more uncomfortable.
She was too afraid to sleep. Every second that passed, she feared that the next may bring Taro, or worse, Naraku may find her. In every direction, she had misfortune.
So she thought about the ones she loved. Sango, Miroku, Shippo...
They probally had gone crazy trying to find her. Poor shippo must have been out of his mind with worry. She knew that he treasured her like a parent, a gaurdian. The kitsune must be in shock that she wasnt there, safe where she belonged.
But after all, where was that? InuYasha had left her. She was far to behind in the future, to even think of persuing carrer. But on top of it all, she wasnt even happy in that time peirod. Nor didn she fit in after all she had gone through. She had no place, so it seemed.
She hugged her blanket closer to her face and tired her best to keep her chocolate eyes open. Suddenly she heard the crash of thunder. The walls echoed the light from the lightning. And with it, she screamed.
Kagome could hear rush of foot steps. She closed her eyes tightly as the raced toward her room.
The sliding door was thrust aside and Taro asked out of breath
"Lady Kagome! Are you alright?"
"Yes... Yes I'm fine..." she stated, her voice low and cautious.
Her heart was pounding. She could feel him walking towards her and she was becaming nervous.
"Are you sure Kagome? You did scream for a reason after all."
Taro sat himself down next to her.
"Was it the thunder?" He asked.
"Yes..." She replied instintly "It was the thunder." She gave off a nervous laugh.
"I didnt know you were afraid of storms Kagome."
'Im not.' She thought bitterly.
The fact of the matter was that she adored them. It was always beautiful the way the thunder lit the sky. Never did they scare or frighten her. No, it was the man beside her that struck fear inside of Kagome.
"Well, I guess I just wasnt expecting It." She tried back.
'Oh, that sounds smart Kagome' She inwardly yelled.
Taro gave off a slight laugh.
"No one expects them Kagome."
"Yeah." She said, and in so, she gave off a fake yawn.
"I'll stay with you tonight Kagome."
"No, you dont have too." She said in turn
"No, I insist, just incase you get 'scared'."
"No, really! Im fine."
"Non sense." He said happily. "Try and get some sleep."
Kagome nodded and turned on her side, her eyes closed tightly.
'InuYasha, I wish you were here...'
She heard Taro lie down next to her, and felt the soft shake of the floor boards as he moved. Still her eyes closed tighter.
She listened as he breathed in and out. She could tell he was far from sleep.
Suddenly she felt a hand creep over her hip, sliding up, and then over the flat plain of her stomache. Her eyes burts open.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
InuYas ha kept running. He noticed that dawn was going to break soon enough. He was wet, he was cold, and he was heart broken. Yet everything inside of him kept screaming at him to continue.
He had left the other behind. They were to make their way to Kaedas. He could go faster alone, and when the time came to deal with Naraku, he would be the one to bring him down.
They had given him a fight, but he knew that they were to tired and worn out to continue on any further. Their faces looked aged, and dark circles loomed under their eyes. He was the cause of all this dismay.
"Remember InuYasha-" Miroku started "Tommarrow is the New Moon. That means that-"
"I dont care. They can see me in my human form. I have to find Kagome." He yelled back.
Miroku and Sango sighed. They knew he wouldnt rest, or take shelter, until he found her.
"Please InuYasha. Stay a night. Rest, you'll feel better." He begged.
"And what? Kagome is out there another night alone at the hands of Naraku? All because I needed rest?"
There would be no reasoning with him.
So he left, and they took off in opposite directions.
'Kagome... Im going to find you... Please forgive me...'
Soon the new moon would come. And his human form would shine through. His senses dulled, and his speed would be matchable. He would be a mortal. No longer could he hop from tree to tree, limb to limb. Nor race aginst time. He would have to make due with his slow, dense form.
All that mattered, was that he kept moving.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Taro. Get off of me..." She said lowly, as her voice shook.
"No." He whispered in her ear as he leaned over to her.
Kagome pressed her lips together tightly, tears sprung from her eyes.
"Get off of me!" She pleaded.
"Quite!" He commanded.
Kagome rolled over and shot up.
"Get away from me!"
"Kagome!" He screamed as he urged toward her.
She looked around the dark room. Where could she run? She didnt know her way around this strange house. How would she escape.Taro bolted to her. She tried to move, but he had her pinned aginst the wall. His nails dug into her wrists as he held her.
"Now you will be quite Kagome." He then transferred both of her wrists into one hand. Slowly his free hand creeped up her shirt.
"STOP!" She cried. "Please stop!" She heard the head master laugh at the request.
She had to get away.
'Think... Think! How am I going to get out of this...'
He leaned in for a kiss, his eyes closed. Kagomes heart pounded. She with out a thought, thrust her knee up, pushing him away.
Taro cried out in pain, and Kagome ran to the sliding door.
"KAGOME!" He called out in a mix of pain and anger. "GET BACK HERE!" He tried to follow her down the halls.
She had no idea where she was going. She turned countless corners, opened several doors, but none of them lead out. It was like a maze, a puzzle.
She opened the door to her right. A woman immidently looked up. She had been sitting repairing a blanket, the only light of that of the moon. Kagome saw she had a away out. She had a door that lead outside. And it was open! She thanked her lucky stars.
"Please, I need to leave. May I go out that way?" She asked, out of breath.
"Sure..." The woman said, a confused look upon her face.
"Please, if you could, do you know anyone of the name Kaeda?"
"The presist?"
"Yes! You know her?"
"Of course. She is very well known. The sister of the once gaurdian of the Shikon Jewel. She is a fine presist so I have heard."
" Do you know how far away from here she is?"
" Not too far. A few villiages perhaps."
"Thank you!" she said, flying out the open door.
The woman looked at her in amazement. 'She sure was in a rush.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kikyo walked the forest. She was unsure where to go, or what step to take next. She knew the hanyou would not stop until the miko was safe, away from harm.
Where had their plan gone so wrong? She was supposed to be in Hell with InuYasha, paying for their mistakes together. He should not have known about Naraku luring her in.
But what ever the cae, fate had brought them to this point. Was it truely that they should not be together?The prestist continued down the narrow walk way. She was heading to pick herbs for her sister. She decieded. After all, she once took care of this villiage, caring for the aches and pains of its citizens. All her peers had long passed, and the children she had once adored, had become adults with familes of their own.
She truely was alone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~Naraku walked into his castle, looking as if he had never been touched. His body stiffened. He couldnt smell Kagomes scent.
"Kagura!" He called out, his velvet voice echoing down the empty halls.
"What?" She asked, a disgust in her tone.
"Where is she?" Anger was dancing in his eyes.
"Isnt she in her room? Thats where I saw her last." she replied casually, an innocents in her voice.
Naraku rushed down the halls to the mikos rooms. He slid open the door, and his eyes quickly surveyed it.
It was empty.
"KAGURA!"
"What?" She asked once more.
"Where is she Kagura. If you value your life, you will tell me where she is."
"I dont know." She said, spite comming forth.
"You were supposed to be watching her." His cold voice said.
"I didnt know she left." Kagura said with an equal tone.
"You have made a grave mistake Kagura." A smile upon his lips. "This was your final staw."
Suddenly her eyes became still, and her hand flew to where her heart would lay. Kaugra fell backwards to the ground.
"That will take care of you for now." Narkau said, a slyness in his voice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~"Miroku?"
"Yes Sango?
"Im worried about Kagome. Do you know why she left?""Im not exactly sure. InuYasha wont seem to talk about it. But he always gets this guilty look when I bring it up."
"He must have messed up pretty bad then."
"Yes." He agreed.
"Miroku... Im afraid something has happened to Kagome..."
"Im sure InuYasha will find her." He said with a smile, trying to comfort the demon slayer. He moved over toward her, and put his arm over her shoulder.Sango was taken aback when the monk edged near her. No perverted move? She was expecting to feel his right hand move to her behind.
She moved closer to him, as she leaned her head aginst his chest. Miroku stroked her hair, all the while thinking. He was holding the woman he loved. Yet his mind was prepairing itself for greif.
Please be alright Kagome.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome stepped outside. The sky was still dark, but a dull grey was making its away through. The forest was wet from the thunder storm they had recieeved eariler that night.
The sound of dripping water was constint as each leaf cought a rain drop from the one above. Kagome wasnt sure if she was North East South or West. All she knew, was that Kaedas villiage was some where near. If she could make it there, than she would be safe.
Once she got to Kaedas villiage, she had a chance to meer up with InuYasha.
'InuYasha!' She thought inwardly 'Today... Is the new moon! Oh InuYasha, please be safe.'
She focused her thoughts once again on the hanyou. Walking ahead, she looked into the grey morning.
Her breath stopped short.
Standing before her eyes, she saw the figure of a man with long blank hair.
"Kagome!"
