5. Dazed and Confused.

The next morning Kagome arrived to the camp site feeling like a huge weight had been lifted from her shoulders. She felt light like a feather and she could not help but hum as she walked to where her friends slept. She had arrived earlier than usual and decided to surprise everyone with breakfast. It was the smell of miso soup that awoke everyone at once.

Shippo jumped to hug Kagome and she laughed. Everyone stilled their movements when they heard the crystal clear sound of her laughter. Her laughter sounded like it did when she had first arrived. That is, before she fell for InuYasha and before his promise to Kikyo. They had not heard that laughter for a long time.

Sango saw her and said, “What happened?”

Kagome looked at Sango and replied, “What do you mean?”

Sango said to her, “Who are you and what have you done with our gloom and doom Kagome?”

Kagome just gave another laugh that simply brightened everyone's day.

Everyone was in a good mood. It was incredible how someone could influence a group.

They still had chores for Kaede to fulfill and Kagome was in herb collecting duty. Sango approached her before she left and said, “Kagome, I have to tell you that you are glowing. Do you think that some day you will tell me why?”

Kagome looked at her and said, “I am afraid that I can't.”

Kagome then looked up and saw InuYasha at a distance looking at her. She smiled faintly at him but noticed that he did not return her subtle recognition. Instead, he remained serious, he remained watching her. She then noticed how he looked down to her feet and then up her hips, breasts and face in a heated gaze.

Sango suddenly saw Kagome pale. Sango turned to look in her direction just to see InuYasha's form walking away from them.

She looked at Kagome and said, “What just happened?”

Kagome had lost her voice for a moment but she managed to say, “No nothing. I thought I saw something but I must be wrong.”

She then said to herself, It can't be. Was he just lusting over me?

It was dusk by the time Kagome returned from her trip to the forest with all the needed herbs. She saw InuYasha and Miroku fixing one of the fences. She glanced at InuYasha and noticed how he stopped what he was doing. He looked up and their eyes met. There it was again, that look that made her heartbeat flutter, made her butterflies shoot in all directions and made her stomach free fall. She turned her face immediately and walked faster.

She did not dare look again until Miroku said, “Kagome, what's your hurry?”

Startled she automatically looked in Miroku's direction and inevitably her eyes fell on InuYasha's smoldering gaze. He gave her a handsome smile that clearly spelled desire. Her blush increased to purple and she nearly tripped. She managed to keep her balance and kept walking, holding on to whatever was left of her dignity.

Miroku looked at her flush red and said, “Hey! What did I say?”

She kept going her way. InuYasha just took careful notice of how her hips swayed in her hurry.

Miroku looked at him and noticed the look in his eyes.

“InuYasha, do you know what that was all about?” He asked.

InuYasha looked at his friend and without a word he continued mending the fence.

Miroku found him unusually silent.

Kagome arrived to Kaede's completely flustered. She was reprimanding herself quietly. She stopped for a second to collect her thoughts and then went towards the elderly lady to show her the herbs. InuYasha and Miroku arrived soon after.

It was time for dinner and Kagome was going to help cook when InuYasha said, “You cannot stay Kagome.”

She then looked up to him saying, “What?”

“I promised your Mom that you would go back to your time for dinner.” He said looking away.

Everyone remained quiet and looked at Kagome. Kagome knew that InuYasha was lying. Her mother had been gone the previous night.

Sango looked at Kagome and said, “Go on Kagome. You must have forgotten.”

Kagome was bewildered.

InuYasha then said to Sango, “Could we borrow Kirara?”

Sango looked at the Hanyou. Although she was perplexed by this highly unusual request, she managed to sound natural when she said, “Certainly.”

He then walked towards the demon cat who transformed to its larger form. As he walked away with Kirara he said something to its ear.

Kagome picked up her back pack. She struggled to ignore all the questions that clamored in her head as she said goodbye to the others. She got on the large cat and InuYasha sat behind her. Kagome let him slide the back pack off her back and put it on his own.

Kirara flew towards the well.

Miroku looked at Sango and asked her, “Why would he want to borrow Kirara to go to the well?”

Sango said, “I think that he is taking Kagome somewhere else.”

Miroku widened his eyes and said, “Why didn't you confront him about that?”

She said, “Because something's going on between them and it is making her very happy. Whatever it is I don't want to interfere. I want to let it run its course.”

Miroku said, “I have noticed a change in him too. He seems more mature or something.”

Sango looked at him and said, “Perhaps they are growing together.”

Shippo was nearby and said, “Are you guys talking in code because what you are saying sounds stupid.”

Sango and Miroku laughed. Miroku said, “Some day Shippo, you will understand.”
