A/N: Here it is at long last. I got majorly blocked when it came to writing the last scene of this chapter, but I worked it out. I tried to make part of this chapter a bit light hearded to make up for some of the angst last chapter, so keep that in mind if something seems a little strange. (It's not meant to be taken seriously.) This is also a LEMON in this chapter.

Here it is and I hope you enjoy. As always I don't own InuYasha...

Please read and review...

To their surprise, when they arrived home they found Taro sitting in the lap of a very pretty young woman, and Sesshomaru was seated a short distance away watching them converse. Sesshomaru rose when they came in. “Rin, stay here with my brother and his pup. I need to speak to his miko before we leave.”

“Yes, Sesshomaru-sama,” Rin replied.

“That’s Rin?” Kagome gasped.

“Yeah,” InuYasha offered.

Sesshomaru looked at his brother. “Would you permit me to speak to your mate outside, alone?” InuYasha nodded. “You and I will speak after.”

Kagome followed the taiyoukai outside and walked along beside him away from her home. They stopped, and for a while he said nothing as he looked out into the forest.

“Sesshomaru?”

“She seeks to take him from you.”

“I know,” Kagome whispered.

“You should not concern yourself,” Sesshomaru told her. “He will not go to her. She is restored, but I feel that not all is as it seems. One is given to wonder the cost that was exacted from her for all her crimes when she was the walking dead.”

“What’s changed?” Kagome posed.

“I hated InuYasha and his human mother because they were a reminder of my father’s betrayal of my own mother,” Sesshomaru told her. “An inu youkai is loyal to his mate beyond a single lifetime, though I know he did not follow her in death so that he could raise me. I was not aware that Izayoi was her reincarnation. I have yet to discern why my father did not tell me, since I would have understood that not to be with Izayoi would have been a betrayal of another kind.”

“Maybe he wanted you to accept InuYasha simply because he was your family, your blood, even if his mother was not the same as your own,” Kagome suggested. “From what I know of him, he seemed to be both a wise and honorable youkai.”

“Do you know what my father and I spoke of the last time I saw him, on the night of his death and of InuYasha’s birth?” Sesshomaru asked. Kagome knew it was a rhetorical question, so she remained silent. “He wanted to know if I had something to protect. I was a foolish pup, many times InuYasha’s age, and yet not able to understand why my father would ask such a thing. I scorned him and his weakness and told him that I sought only power. Centuries I have lived and only have I just begun to realize what he wanted me to understand. It may be too late, but I have much to atone for.”

“InuYasha doesn’t hate you,” Kagome said quietly. “He is angry, I think, and hurt, but you are his brother. You gave our son back his life; there is nothing that can repay that debt, and I think that he would welcome you as family. I consider you as such, even if as a human you would never consider me the same.”

Sesshomaru turned to look at her. “You are a remarkable human and place far too little value upon yourself. I met the other miko once, before my baka brother got himself pinned to that tree, and I did not see in her what it is that sets you apart from others of your kind... InuYasha grows impatient.”

Kagome nodded and followed the taiyoukai back to her home. InuYasha came outside and sniffed her carefully. Once he was satisfied that no harm had come to her, he released her.

“Sesshomaru, could you give us a moment before you speak to him?” Kagome asked.

Sesshomaru gave a brief nod. “I trust you will be able to find me, little brother.” He walked off into the forest.

“What did he want?” InuYasha asked.

“We’ll talk about that later...InuYasha promise me that you’ll listen to him, really listen,” Kagome said. “Everyone makes mistakes, some larger than others, and we all have things we wish we had done differently.”

“I’ll listen. I owe him more than that for what he did for our pup,” InuYasha told her.

Kagome smiled and watched him head off after his brother.

“So, what did you want?” InuYasha asked as he stopped a short distance from where Sesshomaru stood.

“Father would have approved of your mate,” Sesshomaru said. “You are more like him than I. There is nothing that can undo what has passed between us. I have acted reprehensibly toward you, my brother, my blood, chichi-ue’s blood. You have every right to hate me for not protecting you and Izayoi as I should have after he was killed.”

“Fuck, Sesshomaru, I don’t hate you. I wanted to, tried to, but I couldn’t when I wanted to be like you,” InuYasha offered. “I only wanted the damn jewel to become full youkai so that you would accept me as your brother.”

Sesshomaru turned. “Guard your pup well, little brother. The other miko is more than she seems. She was never meant to return to this plane. Also know this, you are not to associate further with her. I will not see my sister hurt by your stupidity any longer. There may have been a time when killing you would have brought me pleasure, but that time has passed.”

InuYasha was still stuck on Sesshomaru having called Kagome his sister. “I’m telling her to leave tomorrow. Like I told Kagome, when being her friend starts to mess up my relationship with my mate, there ain’t no choice to be made.”

“That is what I wanted to hear,” Sesshomaru said.

“So, now that we ain’t trying to kill each other anymore... When am I going to get a new sister, and some cousins for my pup? Or am I wrong about what I smell on that human wench you keep?” InuYasha goaded. “Seems like you are turning out to be more like me and oyaji than you thought.”

“Just because I no longer wish to kill you doesn’t mean that this Sesshomaru won’t teach you some respect, whelp,” Sesshomaru replied.

InuYasha snorted. “You could try.”

The two brothers entered the house and Kagome smiled. InuYasha was smiling slightly, and while she knew that the chances of them ever hugging and saying I love you were about as good as the chances that it would rain ice cream in hell, it was obvious that they had finally come to terms with each other.

Kagome took a sleeping Taro from Rin and she stood. “Kagome-sama, he is adorable, those ears. I hope my own children are as sweet as he. I also hope we can return soon to visit once again.”

Kagome heard InuYasha chuckling lightly and wondered why until InuYasha looked at Sesshomaru. “It’s always the ears. Kagome can’t get enough of them. You know there is only one way she’ll have a pup as cute as mine.”

Rin blushed a deep red and Kagome noticed, to her surprise, that Sesshomaru seemed to have darkened slightly; but it could have just been the low light playing tricks on her. “Come Rin, let us leave before this Sesshomaru is unable to quell the urge to knock some sense into this baka.”

“Yes, Sesshomaru-sama,” Rin said cheerily and followed him out of the house.

“InuYasha, that wasn’t very nice,” Kagome said quietly. “You embarrassed Rin. She’s in love with him and with the way he feels about humans, he’ll probably never return her feelings. You shouldn’t tease her so.”

“Oh, and you know so much, do you wench?” InuYasha asked. “Sesshomaru don’t hate humans as much as you think, especially not that one. He wants to make her his mate.”

“What?” Kagome gasped, causing Taro to stir.

“Mama?” he mumbled groggily.

InuYasha took Taro from Kagome and carried him to his room. “S’okay pup, go back to sleep,” he said as he put him in bed.

InuYasha returned to Kagome and wrapped his arms around her, crushing her against his chest. He nipped at her neck and sucked gently on her sensitive skin. “What do you say you let me show you how much I love you?”

“Sesshomaru wants to mate with Rin?” Kagome asked.

“Now that’s a cock block if I ever heard one,” he groaned. “My brother mating. Ugh.”

“InuYasha!” Kagome gasped. “Where did you hear that?”

“Souta,” InuYasha replied.

“I am going to kill him,” Kagome said. “Teaching you that.”

InuYasha sighed and headed for their room. Definitely a cock block. He undressed and slipped into bed, hoping Kagome would come in soon, and that she wouldn’t bring up his brother again when he was trying to coax her into being with him.

She entered the room and noticed InuYasha pouting a little. She began to undress and slipped into bed beside him. He wrapped his arms around her and nuzzled her neck. “Let me make love to you,” he purred against her ear.

Kagome couldn’t say no, not when he asked like that, and that’s not to mention that she didn’t want to refuse him. In reply she slipped her hand down between them and gripped him firmly. He groaned. “K’gome....ahhh.”

Kagome didn’t resist as he began to kiss her. He grabbed her hips and pulled her up on top of him. She was surprised but wasted no time in rubbing herself against him. He didn’t try to control her as she moved, content to watch her let herself go.

She raised up only to slide back down along his length, taking him deeply inside her. She joined his raspy exhalation with a soft moan. Kagome was all too aware of his hands as they slid along her thighs, causing her legs to tingle. She cupped her breasts in her hands as she sat on top of him and began to move.

She pinched her own nipples and gasped as she rose off of him, only to slam herself down hard against his hips. A growl tore from him and he squeezed her behind, claws digging into her skin, but not piercing it. InuYasha had never seen anything more arousing than his Kagome on top of him touching herself as she brought pleasure to them both.

She leaned down and kissed him as her movement became faster and more wild. InuYasha was struggling not to let go before she had found her release. When she rose up and cried out his name, he couldn’t hold back any longer and he spent himself inside her. She laid her head down on his chest and panted lightly.

InuYasha smoothed her hair and growled softly. After a few moments, Kagome slid off of him and lay beside him. He held her to his chest and they both drifted off to sleep.

They were roused briefly when Taro came into their room and curled up between them. InuYasha could smell fear on their son. “What’s the matter pup?”

“Can I sleep with you and mama, please?” he asked.

“Of course baby, but first tell us what’s wrong,” Kagome said rubbing one of his ears to soothe him.

“I had a dream that someone took me away from you and papa and I had to stay in a dark place. They wanted me to do bad things,” Taro replied. “I didn’t want to, and they told me that if I didn’t they would hurt you and papa. I didn’t know what to do.”

“It was just a dream. Your papa and I are right here,” Kagome said gently.

“Mama, you aren’t going to leave us are you?” he asked. “I’m sorry I helped Kikyou-sama. Please don’t leave.”

“Never be sorry for helping someone, or for doing what your heart tells you to, baby,” Kagome told him. “I am not going to leave you, ever. I was wrong to leave before and I’m sorry.”

“So you and papa still love each other, and we’re still going to be a family?” Taro questioned.

“That’s right pup,” InuYasha said. “I made some mistakes and it hurt mama, but that ain’t going to happen again. Your mama and I love each other very much, and even if we fight sometimes that don’t mean we don’t or that we’re not going to stay together, so don’t worry.”

“Okay, papa. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight, my sweet koinu,” Kagome said, pressing a kiss to his forehead.

InuYasha reached over their son and cupped Kagome’s cheek as she looked at him. He brushed a stray tear from her face with his thumb and she turned her head to kiss his palm. He lowered his arm and draped it over both Kagome and Taro.

InuYasha and Kagome took Taro to stay with her mother while they went to speak with Kikyou. They found her out in the forest gathering herbs for Kaede.

“Kikyou, I need to talk to you,” InuYasha said somberly.

She rose and turned. Her smile fell a little at seeing Kagome with him, but she recovered quickly. “I am listening.”

“I’ve decided it ain’t a good idea for you to stay here,” InuYasha told her. “Kagome and I can protect Taro fine. You should go back and continue your life.”

“This is her doing, is it not. She is making you say these things,” Kikyou said. “You said that you still cared for me, that we would remain friends.”

“Kagome ain’t making me do anything. It’s not right Kikyou,” InuYasha replied. “I wouldn’t like it if she did what I’ve been doing, and I have to put her first. You have a life of your own now to do whatever you want. You should go and be happy. If you’re ever in trouble then you can still come to me and I’ll help you, but other than that, we don’t need to see each other.”

“I am happy here, with my sister, the only family I have, and now because she is upset over what you and I share I am expected to leave?” Kikyou asked. “If I am so threatening to her then perhaps you two are not as secure in your relationship as you would have everyone believe.”

“You’re the one making it so that we can’t be friends Kikyou, not Kagome,” InuYasha told her.

“I am staying. You cannot make me leave,” Kikyou said firmly. She set her eyes on Kagome. “Do not blame me for his feelings. It is not my fault that he still loves me, and neither is it my fault that you gave yourself to a man who didn’t love you in return.”

“That’s enough Kikyou,” InuYasha cut in. “There was a time when I loved you, but mostly I loved the idea of what you represented, a life where I didn’t have to be alone. I wouldn’t have been happy as a human but I was going to do it anyway. Now I know that I don’t have to change to have what I’ve always wanted. I love Kagome. She is my mate, the mother of my son, and nothing can change that, just like we can’t go back and change the past. I can’t make you leave. That’s true, but you will stay away from me and my family. I’m sorry it has to come to this, but it’s just the way it is. I’m sorry.”

Kikyou narrowed her eyes and watched them walk away. Sorry? That I doubt, but you soon will be.

The restored miko was furious. How dare that girl stand before her so brazen? And how dare he try and tell her what to do? She was more powerful than ever and she would not be told what to do by anyone, let alone a half-breed and a little girl. When she felt its presence her anger only increased further and she moved more deeply into the forest.

“You have come far too near. They will sense you. You would risk everything?” Kikyou demanded of the shadows. She cried out in pain as daggers of fury slammed into her mind.

‘You would chastise me, when it is you who have ruined what was going so well with your impatience?’

“I have ruined nothing. His words were for her benefit only, of that I am sure. Now release me,” Kikyou bit out through the pain.

‘How can you be certain?’

“He loves me still. I can see it in his eyes. He belonged first to me, and his heart will not forget that it was I who first showed him kindness,” she replied.

‘We shall see.’

“Now go. The boy’s powers are great and they will come looking for you if he feels that you are near. Soon you will be strong enough to face them, but now is not the time.”

Slowly the darkness pulled back until it was completely gone from her sight and her senses, and she sank to the ground. Her head was aching and she was exhausted from all of the power that she had used. She was forced to remain on her feet in order to keep from showing weakness. She would rest a while before heading back to the village. Kaede would likely wonder where she had been, and become even more suspicious, but there was no avoiding it.

Kaede looked up from the post over the fire as her sister entered the small hut. She watched as Kikyou laid the small basket filled with herbs beside the door. It should not have taken so long for her to return.

“Sister, is all well?” The elderly miko asked. “I expected your return long before now.”

Kaede did not miss the look of impatience and annoyance in her sister’s eyes as she answered. “InuYasha came to me in the forest and after I was weary, so I decided to rest for a while.”

Kikyou sneered at the look of shock on her little sister’s face when she grasped the implication. Her intentions were already clear to her reincarnation, and she was beyond tired of the old woman’s suspicion. She was confident that InuYasha would not turn from her on the word of an aging miko or on the basis of carnal pleasure.

Without another word she grabbed a bowl and served herself, taking a seat against the wall. A dark smile graced her lips as she watched her sister shuffle out of their hut with great haste, no doubt to seek the truth of her words.

Kaede moved as quickly as she could in the direction of the young family’s home. She could not believe that Kikyou had spoken true, or that InuYasha would betray Kagome in such a way. Where before she had been suspicious, now she was certain that all was not right with her sister. It was also troubling that she no longer seemed to feel the need to hide the dark changes within her.

She stopped at the reed mat, but did not need to announce her presence as Taro pulled the mat aside and greeted her with a smile.

“Come in, Kaede obaa-chan,” the boy said. “We’re just having dinner.”

“Thank you, child,” she replied, managing to return his smile.

Both InuYasha and Kagome came to their feet upon seeing her. They both realized at once that she was not simply there to visit.

“Taro, take your dinner into your room, please,” Kagome instructed.

He looked at his mother curiously, but did as he was told. Once he was gone Kagome motioned for Kaede to join them around the fire. The elderly woman seated herself and gathered her thoughts. She did not want to anger the young hanyou, but she knew it was important that she impress upon them her certainty that all was not right with her sister.

“I have just had a troubling conversation with my sister,” She began. “It was her claim that she lingered so long in the forest because she had been visited by InuYasha and been weary after their encounter.”

No one missed what the miko’s words implied. For the briefest of moments Kagome was gripped by doubt, but then she remembered that InuYasha had not left her side all day for longer than it took to catch the rabbit they had just eaten. She also reminded herself that she had to get put the past aside. He loved her and would not betray her in such a way.

“I never-” InuYasha began to protest, only to be cut off by Kagome as she took his hand.

“I don’t believe it,” Kagome said firmly, glancing at her hanyou with a small smile. “InuYasha and I went to see her together, and he told her to leave us alone. And more than that, he wouldn’t do that to me, to us. I know in the past I have doubted him, but I won’t do that anymore.”

“I did not mean to imply that I thought her words to be true,” Kaede informed the couple. “My purpose was to bring warning that I believe my sister has turned from the path of the light. Several times I have felt a strange aura from her; one tainted with malevolence.”

To both of the women’s surprise InuYasha rose with a growl. “Kikyou wouldn’t... She might be angry, but she would never become a dark miko. You’re her sister. You know her. How could you say something like that about her, after everything she’s been through.”

Kagome remained conspicuously silent, and Kaede offered a weary sigh. “It is because she is my sister than I can say such things, InuYasha. I do know her, and she is not the woman you remember. You must look beyond the past, or I fear the consequences will be greater than you can imagine.”

InuYasha looked to Kagome for help. Kagome had always avoiding saying anything bad about Kikyou, but she was refusing to look at him. “She wouldn’t,” he maintained stubbornly. “You can’t know her as well as you think, if you believe she would do that.”

Finally Kagome lifted her head. Her tone was soft as she spoke. “How can you defend her still, after those terrible things she said to me, about me?”

“Kagome, I... Damn it!” InuYasha cursed. “You don’t understand. Both of you... We were supposed to be together. She was just upset. You would be too if you had to watch someone else living the life you wanted.”

Kagome stood slowly. “Please excuse me Kaede. I’m not feeling well. I’ll see you in the morning for my training.”

“Of course, child,” Kagome said with a sympathetic nod.

“InuYasha, I trust that you’ll make sure Kaede gets home okay,” the young woman added as she headed to their room. Just before entering Kagome looked back. “Oh, and I’m not living the life Kikyou wanted. My son and my mate are hanyou. She wanted a human husband, and I never have.”

InuYasha stood in stunned silence as Kagome disappeared into their room.

Kaede rose stiffly. “I can make my own way home. You would do well to spend time considering just what it is you hope to accomplish by refusing to see the truth of how things are, and not how you wish them to be. And remember that Kagome spent years doing just what you have used as Kikyou’s excuse for her cruelty. How many times did that poor child speak ill of my sister in all those years?”

Soon the old miko was gone and InuYasha was left alone with her words.
