Chapter 2: The Miko

 

 

Dirt and dust swirled in the air and was carried off by a sharp gust of wind as Kagome swept the shrine steps. She wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand as she leaned heavily against her broom. She pulled out her cell phone from her pocket 5:03 AM, she still had time to finish getting the shrine ready to open for the day, shower, grab something to eat in the car and drive to school. Studying to be a miko was hard work and she was surprised could handle all of the responsibilities with school, home/shrine and her social life. After sweeping she placed brought put the broom inside the garage and woke her grandfather. She was way too exhausted to finish do the rest of her chores. Luckily her grandfather was in a good mood and let her off without doing the rest of her work. Kagome kissed her grandfather's cheek then trudged up the stairs to her bathroom to start off the rest of her day.

Inuyasha stole glances at the sleeping girl behind him. She hadn't spoken a word to him in days, and by the time Inuyasha had gotten to class every day Kagome was already napping. As the girl slept he had to admit she was pretty and down to earth to boot. She didn't act too taken by the fact he was famous and had millions.

 

Kagome could feel eyes watching her as she tried to nap and she feared it was the teacher about ready to yell at her. She looked up and her breath caught when she met Inuyasha's eyes.

 

“ You're pretty you know that?” Inuyasha unintentionally said. Kagome laughed and rolled her eyes. Lamest line of all time.

 

“ I'm sure your girlfriend Kikyou wouldn't appreciate you hitting on innocent school girls while she's away.” Kagome's voice was venomous but she batted her large blue eyes innocently. Inuyasha's face fell at her words and Kagome noticed the way his body tensed.

 

“ I think I should explain something to you.” Inuyasha calmly said turning around more to face her. Kagome sighed leaning back in her chair and folding her arms behind her head.

 

“ Explain away.” Inuyasha looked around a bit.. He didn't want to explain him and Kikyou with so many people around.

 

“ Well.. I can't now. Ditch class with me later? We'll go to lunch.” He said softly with hope in his golden orbs. Kagome shook her head and smiled, how could she refuse him with his dumb smile nodding his head.

 

“ Fine Takahashi. As long as we can avoid the press I'm pretty sure I'll be fine.”

“ Favorite color.”

 

“ Dark green.”

 

“Food.”

 

“ Oden.”

 

“ Pets?”

 

“ A cat named Buyo.”

 

“ Siblings?”

 

“ A brother, Souta…Inuyasha didn't you want to explain something to me, not ask me a whole bunch of questions.” To avoid attracting any reporters Inuyasha and Kagome decided to just get some fast food and sit in the parking lot of Kagome's favorite park. Inuyasha took a huge bite from his cheeseburger before speaking.

 

“ Well I can't say I didn't want to do both.” Kagome giggled softly popping a fry into her mouth.

 

“ You ask a whole bunch of questions.” Kagome smiled to Inuyasha putting the bag of food on the car floor. “You know I know nothing about you and you're learning everything about me.” Kagome stated with a giggle.

 

“ Sadly you could go on the internet and probably find out almost everything about me. I remember an interview where the interviewer asked me what my shoe size was.”

 

“ That's pretty creepy.” Kagome said with a shudder. The prospect of having every little detail about herself open to any creep was a bit scary to Kagome.

 

“ Feh, it is, but you get used to it.” Inuyasha shrugged then took a sip from his soda. “So, what I wanted to explain to you was Kikyou.” Kagome frowned at the name and a slight twinge of jealousy poked at her from the inside. “ Our relationship is a sham, it's just to boost record sales.” Kagome thought that this new information would be a relief.. but somehow it just irritated her more, if that was possible. “Both our managers and agents suggested it would be great for sales if we were to appear together and then pretend that we were together. We did some songs together and then we actually did fall in love.” Kagome nodded solemnly. “ Or we thought we fell in love. She lives her own life and I live my own.. we hang out every once in a while just to through off the press about a break up.”

 

“ That's a great story.” Kagome said with a bored tone and crossed her arms.

 

“ It's the truth.” Kagome rolled her eyes and yawned.

 

“ I'm bored. Let's do something fun.” Kagome said lighting a cigarette then opening her window. Inuyasha took a cigarette from her pack and lit one up as he thought of something fun to do. Suddenly like a bulb went off in Inuyasha's head he smacked himself in the forehead.

 

“ We could go to the mansion. It's like it's own little hotel.” Inuyasha suggested to Kagome who thought pensively then tossed her cigarette out her window.

 

“ It's a plan.” Kagome shrugged unable to think of anything else to do on a school night.

“ Guest bathroom's in there, my older brother's room, my room, my parents' room, those are the guest bedrooms there are five in total..” Inuyasha said giving Kagome a quick tour. Kagome nodded actually quiet for once as she followed the demon.

 

“ This place is awesome!” Kagome said looking around. “ And you paid for it yourself?!”

 

“ Baby, I got millions.” Inuyasha seductively winked at Kagome who blushed and looked away. “ Wanna watch a movie?” Inuyasha led Kagome into the entertainment room, which had eight seats set up in a movie theater fashion. Pressing a button on the wall the curtains that surrounded the walls pulled back and revealed a plethora of movies on shelves all around the room.

 

“ Holy crud.” Kagome laughed looking at all the titles. “ Something funny for sure.” Kagome squealed with happiness and pulled out a movie from it's place and waved it at Inuyasha nodding.

 

“ Fine wench.” Inuyasha smirked taking the movie and placing it into the dvd player. Kagome took a seat in the middle of the row and patted the seat next to her for Inuyasha. “ I'm not that kind of guy.” Inuyasha mocked sitting next to the girl. Kagome smacked Inuyasha's shoulder playfully and crossed her arms.

 

“ Jerk.” Kagome said with a pout.

 

“ Aw, don't be sad Gorgeous.” Inuyasha said placing an arm around her shoulder. “ Just watch the movie.” Kagome instinctively laid her head against Inuyasha's shoulder and sighed peacefully.

 

Just then the door swung open and an older female walked into the room tapping her foot. The woman was beautiful with flawless pale skin and straight jet black hair, but currently she looked pretty irate.

 

“ Koinu.. your room is a pig sty!” The woman said before noticing Kagome in the room, instantly her mood changed. “ You didn't tell me you were going to bring someone home! I'm Izayoi-sama.” The woman walked into the room and shook Kagome's hand before ruffling her son's hair.

 

“ Mother, this is Kagome.” Inuyasha shot his mother a glare, completely embarrassed by his mother's actions.

 

“ What? Well I guess I can overlook the whole messy room thing for now. It was really nice meeting you Kagome. When you guys are done with your movie come over to the kitchen.. I'll bake cookies!” Izayoi squealed walking out of the room and shutting it behind her.

 

“ Sorry.” Inuyasha grumbled rubbing his head.

 

“ For what?” Kagome laughed. “ Koinu?”

 

“ Shut up, you're missing the movie..”
