Unforgivable Love

Chapter 4: Returning

Shippo sniffed the air around him. He smelled Inu-Yasha returning. Then he smelled a scent that seemed very familiar to him.

It can't be

The young kitsune took off towards the well, ignoring the shouts coming from Miroku and Sango asking him to come back. He stopped abruptly as he smelled another scent. It smelt like a mixture of Kagome & Inu-Yasha's scents.

They couldn't have. I would have smelled it.

When the kitsune really thought about it he could see how they could have hidden it. Since they both had been away for so long, the scent of their lovemaking had slowly diminished thus making it nearly impossible for demons to smell it. Shippo continued to run until he reached the well. Inu-Yasha was looking at Kagome while holding her pack and her worn pink bike. Kagome's head then appeared over the top of the well. She climbed up the vines all the way and swung her legs over the edge of the well. Shippo saw a small girl in Kagome's arms that resembled both Kagome and Inu-Yasha. Shippo decided that he needed to say something to acknowledge his presence to Kagome. He knew Inu-Yasha knew he was there.

"Kagome," the kitsune whispered.

Kagome looked up.

"Shippo," Kagome said.

Shippo began to run towards Kagome to hug her. He had forgotten the small girl Kagome held and he had almost caused an accident. Inu-Yasha had been quick to correct the mistake as he dropped both the bike and the bag and quickly grabbed Sora from Kagome's arms. Inu-Yasha turned around to see both Kagome and Shippo fall down the well. He could here them laughing as they climbed back out. Sora stirred in his arms. Inu-Yasha looked down at the young quarter demon.

What should I say to her when she wakes up?

"Inu-Yasha daijoubu?" Kagome asked.

"Hai, daijoubu," Inu-Yasha replied.

(Daijoubu as a question means, Are you Ok? As an answer it means, I'm fine.)

"Kagome, who is that," Shippo asked as he pointed to Sora.

Kagome took Sora from Inu-Yasha.

"This is Sora. She's my daughter."

"Who's her dad," Shippo said with a smug look on his face.

I'm going to make her tell me. She probably won't, but I'll know she's lying.

"Inu-Yasha."

Shippo turned towards Kagome.

"Nani?"

"Inu-Yasha is Sora's father."

Shippo decided to give Inu-Yasha a hard time. He began to laugh.

"What's so funny," Inu-Yasha asked.

"I just can't picture you as a father. It's just too funny to think about."

Shippo continued to laugh until Inu-Yasha bonked him on the head.

"Shut up!"

Shippo began to gripe and complain about his head. The two of them continued to argue until someone reached up to tweak Inu-Yasha's ears. The two of them froze.

"Look mommy, he has doggy ears," a delighted and sleepy Sora said.

"I know he does," Kagome said to the young girl.

The small girl continued to tweak and rub the ears on Inu-Yasha's head. Kagome mouthed something to Shippo and he took off towards Kaede's village.

"Could you stop that," Inu-Yasha asked calmly.

The girl didn't reply and gently removed her hands from his ears.

"Mommy, who is he?"

"Sora sweetie, this is your daddy."

Sora looked up at Inu-Yasha.

"My daddy…" Sora repeated after her mother.

Inu-Yasha and Sora stared at each other. Inu-Yasha turned his gaze to Kagome who was smiling at him. Inu-Yasha looked down again to a tug on his pant leg. Sora looked up at him with big eyes. She held her hands out showing Inu-Yasha that she wanted to be picked up. He gently lifted her off of the ground. Sora rested her head against Inu-Yasha's chest. She lifted her small hand to his ear and gave it a final tweak before she fell into a soft sleep.

"She likes you."

Inu-Yasha turned to look at Kagome.

"How can you tell?"

"She'll only fall asleep on people that she likes. She's alert on someone she doesn't trust or like."

Inu-Yasha turned to look down at the sleeping girl. He then turned back to Kagome.

"We need to go to the village."

Kagome nodded. She picked up her bike and tied her bag to the back of it. They smiled at each other and then took off towards the village to give their comrades the shock of their lives.
