CHAPTER 1
Every once in a while, a hero is born and a legend follows him….or in this case, her. Long ago, when the Shikon no Tama was whole; a young dog demon was near the Higurashi shrine. Her long silver curls framed her body and her golden eyes searched desperately for something.
She sniffed the air, “There. He's close….and that girl!” She said coldly at the scent of Kikyo the priestess. She ran faster, following the smell then the yokai came to a screeching halt in front of a terrible sight.
Kikyo was standing in front of her brother, who was sealed to a tree with a sacred arrow in his heart. “Keh, serves him right.” The demon said and waited for the small crowd of villagers who had gathered around the dieing priestess to leave before approaching her brother.
“Hello, Inuyasha. Long time no see.” She said and climbed up to him. “Naomi? Sister, help me, please….” Inuyasha begged weakly, “No dear brother, if you can get up there then you can get back down.” Naomi said haughtily and laughed, the laugh of the damned as Inuyasha was sealed by the spell.
Naomi began to rummage through his kimono, “Where is it?” She huffed when she failed to locate the Sacred Shikon no Tama. Then, Naomi over heard Kikyo's final words. “Kaede, burn the jewel with my body.” Nomi gasped, “No!” She flew from her hiding place and attacked Kikyo.
“Give me the Sacred Jewel!” Naomi demanded as she ran closer to Kikyo. “Never! Be gone demon!” Kikyo replied and pulled out an arrow. `I don't even have strength enough to draw my bow.' Kikyo thought desperately. So she clutched the sacred arrow tightly; Naomi was ready to strike.
She leapt into the air, “Iron Reaver Soul Stealer!” Naomi shouted and came hurtling back towards Kikyo. At that moment, Kikyo thrust the arrow into Naomi's stomach. “Ugh….” Naomi slashed Kikyo through the shoulder severing her main artery. Kikyo then fell to the ground, dead from the loss of blood. Naomi also hit the ground with a jarring thud.
Lying in a pool of blood, she looked up and saw a shadowy figure approach her. “I am sorry brother.” She whispered to Inuyasha as the shadowy figure gently scooped her into his arms and took to the sky. “Little sister, do not apologize to that worthless halfbreed. Be still now and rest. You have lost a lot of blood. I will help you retrieve the Shikon no Tama and we will share its power.” The figure said and held Naomi close. She opened her eyes enough to see the face of her eldest brother, Lord Sesshomaru.
“Sesshomaru, our brother Inuyasha, was sealed to a tree by that horrid wench Kikyo! I tried to get the jewel for him but….I wasn't strong enough, I'm so ashamed.” Naomi said and felt herself losing the battle against consciousness. “Naomi; so young and naïve.” Sesshomaru said in the closest thing to a laugh as he had ever been.
“Sesshomaru-“ Naomi began but finally she fell into darkness as her brother carried her to the Western Lands where he resided. Upon entering his palace, Sesshomaru gently placed his little sister on one of the bed of the many guest rooms. “Jaken!” Sesshomaru called and in came his faithful servant Jaken.
“Yes, my Lord?” Jaken asked. “Who is that Lord Sesshomaru?” Jaken asked and came closer to the bed that Naomi was resting on. “She is quite a beauty.” Jaken added and approached her as well. “Keep your distance, Jaken. She is my kid sister, Naomi.” Sesshomaru warned and looked down somewhat kindly at Naomi.
“Of course my Lord, I meant no offense.” Jaken said bowing and taking a few steps away from his master in case he had angered him. “She looks a lot like you.” Jaken said and pointed at the red strips on the sides of her face and wrists. There was also a strange shard in the middle of her forehead. (no its not the sacred jewel that hasn't broken yet!)
Sesshomaru took pride in this, “Indeed. She is full demon and I must protect her. Unfortunately, she also resembles that worthless halfbreed, Inuyasah.” He said now scowling at two silver dog ears atop her head. “Aye, my Lord.” Jaken said uncertainly at his master's remark.
“Jaken, quickly fetch a woman to clean her wounds.” Sesshomaru said unemotionally, but somewhere deep in his golden eyes, the toad caught the slightest sign of worry. “Right away, my Lord.” Jaken said scurried on. Naomi stirred slightly and her blood was staining the bed she was on with a dark crimson. “Be still I said, sister. Your wound is deep and needs to be treated. Rest.” Sesshomaru said soothing her struggles and stroking her cheek lightly.
“Sesshomaru…” Naomi uttered as if she was in a dream and she opened her eyes to see if he was really there and he was. “Yes, I am here.” He replied as if reading her thoughts and tried his best at smiling back. Naomi noticed his feeble attempts to cheer her up and smiled wider, then blacked out again; she was so weak from the loss of blood.
Lord Sesshomaru looked down at the fragile creature sleeping before him. She looked so weak and vulnerable but at the same time, she looked stronger then anyone he had ever seen. In her unconscious state, she looked so happy; not a care in the world and totally at peace. Just then, a woman and entered the room carrying a bowl of hot water and bandages. “My Lord.” They said and bowed. He gave a curt nod and left the room. About an hour later, the woman exited the room, slightly ruffled and caked in blood.
“How is she?” Sesshomaru asked unemotionally, but once again, Jaken caught that trace of feeling in his eyes. “Well my Lord, she's fine now. But any longer and she would have bled to death.” The woman said. Sesshomaru then entered the room to find Naomi sitting up on the bed examining her bandages. She poked at it in curiosity and giggled softly when blood soaked through slightly turning it pink.
“Don't do that.” Sesshomaru scolded. Naomi looked up at her older brother, “Thank you; for saving me from those humans.” She said smiling softly. “Hm….You may leave once you are feeling better.” Sesshomaru said. “What?! That's it? No: I'm glad your feeling better or Get well soon? Geez, for a second there I thought you actually cared about me.” Naomi said sarcastically.
Sesshomaru merely nodded, “I don't get it, Sesshomaru. One minute you're worried about me and the next, you're kicking me out! So which is it, do you care? Or don't you?” Naomi asked, her voice had taken a serious tone. “I-“ But at that moment Jaken came in. “My Lord, some demons are causing problems on the Northern Boarder!” Jaken said in a panicked voice.
“Very well, Jaken stay here. Naomi, you may wait with Jaken until I return.” Sesshomaru said as he left. After he left, Naomi stood up from the bed. “Lord Sesshomaru said to wait until he came back.” Jaken said desperately trying to stop the demon. “I can walk so I'm getting out of here. He doesn't want me here anyway.” Naomi said and left the palace.
She tried to run but found herself unable because of her wounds. She was heading east, she didn't want to be on Sesshomaru's land any longer. She wasn't going any where in particular, she was just going where ever her feet carried her. So, for about two whole days, she walked and now she was exhausted.
Naomi had decided to stop by a small spring to rest. She laid down in the cool grass and sighed. “Oh!” She exclaimed as a dark thundercloud moved in front of the sun. “Funny, I don't smell rain.” Naomi said to herself and sat up to look around. The once gentle breeze turned into an icy wind and the sky darkened.
Just then a dark form appeared before her. “Who are you and what do you want?” Naomi demanded and she prepared herself for a fight. “Sleep, until I need you, sleep.” The dark figure said in a voice that was pure evil. Then just as suddenly as it had come, it vanished without a trace.
Naomi felt tired all of a sudden; so tired. “He put a spell on me….I'll get him…who ever he was….” Naomi mumbled and the curse took hold of her and she fell to the ground. A hypnotic sleep gripped her tightly and she surrendered to it. Until the day, that the Shikon no Tama would reappear.
