A kind looking old woman came walking into the room, wrinkles creased her face over and over, and her dull grey hair pulled into a pony tail tied at the base of her neck by a white ribbon. A patch is over her right eye, Kagome immediately knew what had happened to it. She is wearing a white shirt that is tucked into her red skirt and pulled out some to hang over the hem of her skirt. What shoes and socks she is wearing is a mystery since her skirt is hiding it. She walked up to Kagome and held out her hand. “Hello, my name is Keade. I suppose your name is Joan Kelpsy.” The last wasn’t a question, more of a statement than a question.
“Yes, my name is Joan; it’s very nice to meet you Keade. Now, what is it that you need to ask me before I can take a room here?” She took Keade’s hand and they shook hands. When Keade sat down, Kagome followed suit.
“I have just a few questions, so no need to worry about that.” Keade paused for a moment, contemplating on what to say next. “I need to know if you have any children or pets, how old you are, if you are going to a school, what school you are going to, and what jobs you have.” Keade said all this very fast and Kagome could barely hear it all.
“I do not have any children or pets, though I have a room mate, a little boy that I sort of adopted when his parents died. I’m 17, I go to Kingiko High School, and I work at the library, the mechanics shop, and WacDonalds. I quite my job at the other fast food restaurant and started in the mechanics shop.” She said this slowly, trying to remember what Keade had asked of her.
Keade smiled and held her hand out again. “You have a room now. You will be in room #002; we have some one in all the other rooms, though it doesn’t look like it.” She said as Kagome too her hand.
When Kagome removed her hand she found a key in it. “Thanks, also, I’m going out for a while, when I come back I will have jet black hair that is about waist length, and grey/black eyes. My wraps around my chest will not be on and I’ll look like a Goth teenage girl.” ((XP Goth Kagome!!!! I think it’s hilarious…. For some reason it’s really funny to me…))
Keade frowned. “Who are you running from? You didn’t run away from home, did you?” She asked, suspicion ringing in her voice.
“No, my parents, and all my other relatives, died a while back, I’m running away from my neighbors, they want me to live off their hospitality, and they won’t listen to what I have to say, so I have to stay hidden and change my looks and name every so often.”
Keade nodded. “I’ll keep you secret, don’t worry. I’m also going to be in my room, its room #900.” She stood up and walked out of the room, leaving Kagome behind to talk and think to herself.
Kagome stood up as well and walked down the air conditioned halls to room #002 and unlocked the door. She walked in and saw that even though this place looked small on the outside, it is quite big on the inside. The living room alone could hold her old house. “Goodness, this is so big! I’m not sure I have enough things to fill it up.” She shrugged and walked back down the air conditioned halls into the very warm air outside, goose bumps appearing on her skin from the change in temperature.
When she got outside, she saw Shippo run up to her. “Kagome! How did it go? Did we get a room?” He looked excited, and his voice is its usual childish tone.
Kagome smiled and ruffled Shippo’s hair. “Yeah, we got a room, and we are lucky that no one else was trying to get a room, since all the others are filled up. Now help me carry these things to our room, you get your stuff, and I’ll get mine.” She then picked up the T.V. and a wood chair and carried it into their new room with Shippo right behind her.
They took several more trips, Shippo carrying the clothes from the dressers, and the make shift closet that they had, and Kagome carrying the other, heavier objects. Kagome carried the last piece of furniture, their dressers in and set them down.
“Well, it’s not the best of places, but with the money we have saved up, we can make this place shine! And, now we have electricity, so we can sell our battery powered objects and buy better ones. I’ll keep my job, go to school, and then I’ll eventually be able to go to college if I get a couple of scholar ships.” Kagome said, a little out of breath to a beaming Shippo as they rested on bean bag chairs. ((You are probably asking yourself why she has such ratty furniture, right? Remember, she lived in the basement of her house, with out electricity. That and the fact that they needed light weighted furniture so they can move around easier.))
“Yeah! And you need your make over, Kagome. Go out and buy the things we need, I’ll wait here quietly.” Shippo jumped up from his bean bag chair and looked through his bags. When he found his games and game boy he sat back down and became locked in the game.
“Sure, I’ll go now. I need a wig, new contacts, and new clothes.” She picked herself up from the bean bag chair, all newly rested, and walked out the door.
When she got into the truck, she turned it on and put the station on a Heavy Metal station. She pulled up to a wig store and got a black wig, which she will wear until her hair grows out long enough. Paying $20 for the wig and putting it on, getting stares from the other customers; she just stuck her toung out at them like a child and walked off.
Next on her list of things to do, she went to an optometrist, she had these contacts on order and he said that they should be in today. After taking out her other contacts and putting in the new ones. She looked around, getting used to the darker shades of the room caused by the un-natural coloring in her eyes.
The final place she had to go to was the shopping mall. She went into another Hot Topics store, a store for Goths only. Picking up a few shirts, pants, and jewelry she paid about $600 for. She asked the lady if she could wear one of the outfits at the store and she just smiled and led her to a room in the back of the store.
“When you are done, if you don’t want that outfit that you are wearing, you can give it to me. I’ll be happy to take it and burn it for you.” She said looking at the rather bright colored shirt and pants that Kagome was wearing. The lady waved and left the room, leaving Kagome standing there looking off into space.
“Well, I’ll be happy to let you burn it.” She said to the closed door and heard an OK of acknowledgment. She took off her bright red shirt and yellow pants, which could have been why she was getting so many stares, and put on the new outfit. Now she is wearing a black shirt with, what looked like, torn sleeves. It’s a belly shirt so the bottom of the shirt looks like it was torn as well. There is a play boy bunny shape in hot pink right in the middle of her shirt. Her pants are black blue jeans with a few chains hanging off of them and torn on the bottom, so they are really Capris, only they are very baggy. Last she pulls a piece of clear, plastic like string through the belt loops and ties it in the front into a knot. “I look better already.” Her tennis shoes would be replaced at the next store she is going to.
When she walked out of the store the same girl walked up to her and held out her hand. Kagome gave her the clothes she wanted to burn and the girl turn around and walked outside, to burn the clothes hopefully.
Kagome then walked into a shoe store, not paying attention to whether it was a boy’s or girl’s shoe store. She picked up a pair of black Chuck Tailors and tried them on, they didn’t go onto her feet comfortly, and when she looked at the size she found out why. She didn’t wear a size 8 any more, she now wears a size 10 in women’s, and since this was men’s, she had picked up a size 6, but she needed a size 8. She sighed and went through the shelves, finally finding an 8 and trying that one on, it fitted and she paid for them. After telling the girl at the desk that she wanted to wear them out, she put them on and took off all the tags, tying them up.
She walked back out to her car and drove it to a car shop. A man immediately walked out of the shop and looked at her strange. “I’m a new employee, that and I need some help. My car is getting to old to take me where I need to go, so I want to buy a new one, a different color, a different license plate, and a different model, I don’t care much about the year.”
The man nodded, looked at her car and spoke. “You can get about $500 for that car, and if you would like to trade it in, I would be happy to get you a new one. WE just got some in the other day, not too expensive in the ways of cars, but not all that glamorous either.”
“It doesn’t matter; I’m going to trade this one in though.” She gave him her keys. “I just want to get the things out and put them in a new car before you take it though.” She said in a cold voice and walked off toward the cars that can be bought.
The man followed behind her and started to point out cars.
Kagome just blocked out everything he said, looking only for a car that would fit her purposes. When they reached a black Cadillac, she pointed to it and said. “I will be taking that one; I’ll go get my things.” She turned around and walked back to her car to get her things, leaving the man behind her babbling like an idiot.
She grabbed her things and went to the car she had picked out. “Yes, this one will do just fine.” She put the clothes in the back of the car and went inside with the man, where she filled out a few forms, wrote out a check, and left with a license plate and the keys.
They put the license plate on the car, which reads, JSK 666. “It’s perfect!” Kagome said with a smile on her face. “I’ll be taking those.” She said as she plucked the keys out of the salesman’s hands and took off in her new car. Next, she had to get some pricings and tattoos, oh how painful. “I can’t believe I’m going to go through with this.” She said as she parked the car and walked into the building.
Inside it smelled of sterilizer and you could hear screams of pain coming from some of the other patrons. “Some one stops me.” She said as she walked up to the counter and paid for 5 pircings and 2 tattoos. “I’m going to die.” She whispered under her breath she they led her to the back room.
“So, who do we have next?” A tall man, not really buff, but with out much hair, what little he had is white, and bright blue eyes said as Kagome walked into the room. “A pretty lady, I see, you’re trying to make your boyfriend think that you are going out with the tough crowd so that he would pay more attention to you, or is it rebellion?”
Kagome smiled uneasily. “Its rebellion, my parents say that I’m not allowed to get tattoos, or pirecings, but I’m 18, and by law I can get these, so I am.” She said as she sat down in a chair that looked like a patient’s chair in a dentist office.
“I’m going to map out the design in washable blue ink and then fill it in. Put this in your mouth, its wax, to keep you from breaking your teeth our biting the inside of your mouth.” He handed her a piece of clear stuff. “Now, what do you want? I’ve got a book full of pictures.” He handed her a book and she leafed through it until she found 2 that she liked. “Are you sure you want these? They are pretty bold.”
Kagome just nodded and the old man nodded his head. “Very well. Put that wax in and I’ll start.” Kagome put the wax in her mouth and he put one of the designs on her stomach, and the other on her arm. “Hold still or it’ll get messed up.” He then started with the needle, and Kagome suppressed screams by biting down on the wax as hard as possible.
4 hours later…
Kagome had gone numb in both areas that the tattoos were put and they weren’t all the way done. The old man had left to give her a break from the pain and to get ice and a rag for any excess ink. When he came back Kagome whimpered but sat still. He tried to take her mind off the pain that wasn’t there by talking to her. “You are doing well for some one who isn’t numbed first. Just a little more to go.” He said and she drifted off to a sort of sleep where shapes floated in her face, colors mixed in front of her eyes, and sounds were mixed as well. When she woke up, the piercer was in front of her.
“I’m going to do your nose, left eye brow, and both ears, along with your bottom lip, right?” Kagome nodded. This girl is beautiful. Her long hair is black, it reaches her lower back, her eyes are brown and she is very slim.
“I know you, your Sango, you went into the library a while ago and took out a few books, you have $2 in over due fines.” Sango looked at her like she was crazy.
“Do I know you? I don’t think you were the one that rented out my books, are you a new worker, or a nosy patron?” She said as she readied the piercing gun. “Any ways, pick out the rings or studs that you want, and I’ll get to work.”
Kagome nodded and picked out butterflies, to match her tattoos, which are blue butterflies with green vines and a white flower behind them. “Just get it over with, I can’t feel anything right now, I’m numb all over.”
The girl looked worried. “I’ll drive you home then, and I’ll get a friend to take my car so I can drive him and it back.” She said as she did both of Kagome’s ears, Kagome didn’t even notice until a head ach hit her hard.
“Ok, thank you. I’m a new worker by the way, I just saw you in the library when you were taking out books because I was reading in a corner.” She winced slightly as Sango did her left eye brow, and then she did her mouth and nose and Kagome was done. She looked in the mirror, and sighed.
“Joan, I saw you before you got the tattoos and ear rings, I think you look a bit better now if you go by my judgment, just so you know. Well, the pain is over, I’ll carry you out, being careful of your stomach, and my friend will come out and we will help you get to your house with out problems, ok?” Kagome just nodded and Sango picked her up and carried her out, the bright sun shine beaming on them and warming Kagome up after being in the cold room all day long.
“It is so nice out here.” Kagome said as she looked at the bright sun shinning down on them. “I wish it were like this every day…” She trailed off as she fell asleep.
“No, Kagome, wake up! You have to wake up or we can’t get you home.” Sango said urgently, a hint of desperation in her voice.
“Five more minutes mommy…” She said, her voice tired and her words slurred slightly from sleep.
“WAKE UP!!!!!!!” Sango yelled into Kagome’s ear, which then jumped about 5 feet into the air.
“God Sango, do you have to be so loud?” She asked, her voice slightly irritated.
“Sorry, girl, but I need you to give me directions to your house. Sit up front so that you can see better and stay awake. Marko, you take my car, yes I know, surprising right? I’m letting you drive my car, but I don’t trust you with Kagome.” She said and hit on the arm, setting Kagome on the ground lightly so she could try and support her own weight.
“I’m too tired to walk Sango, pick me back up and carry me to my car.” She said and Sango picked her back up.
“Alright, but you are going to tell me how to get to your house.” She said, her voice laughing.
