Tuesday - Go By Easily
*****
Not thinking about someone never works out the way you want it to…
*****
As Tuesday rolled by Kagome found it easier to ignore her husband completely (with the help of Merciless). She called in to work saying she was ill and couldn’t contaminate everybody else. So for the whole of the morning she sat in bed looking at the ceiling.
“Why am I angry with him?” she whispered to herself. With the lack of a physical presence in the room Kagome only had her two warring consciences to speak with her. Forgiveness and Merciless glared daggers at each other across Kagome’s shoulders.
<<Me first!>> they shouted at each other. Each sister had a look of hate on her face until Merciless settled back.
<<Fine sister, you first>> Merciless sat down on Kagome’s shoulder while Forgiveness straightened her halo and cleared her throat gently.
<<Kagome, you’re angry because you think he doesn’t know you. Believe me he does but sometimes that’s just the way men are->>
Merciless interrupted at this point. <<-And since that’s how they are, being susceptible to bouts of forgetfulness, I understand fully why you’re angry at him. He called you stupid yesterday>>
<<Because he was angry and didn’t know what he was saying! That was probably Ego’s fault anyway…>> Forgiveness interjected huffily. She scowled at Merciless when she mentioned Ego’s name, Inuyasha’s conscience who went hand in hand with Merciless. The SD Kagome devil conscience pointedly ignored her sister’s comment and continued to woo Kagome over to her point of view.
<<That Inuyasha reckons you’re making a big fuss. Tell me Kagome and darling Nessie, how is this situation a big fuss if Inuyasha kept those pictures of his ex and himself and claims it’s nothing? Are you telling me Nessie, if you saw Sensitivity with another Forgiveness and he told you it was nothing you wouldn’t get angry?>> Merciless asked cruelly, referring to the hanyou’s other conscience Sensitivity, and she tapped her foot impatiently. In the meantime Forgiveness stood positively fuming, knowing she had lost.
<<Think of it that way sister then get back to me>> Merciless said softly and disappeared in her cloud of red smoke. True to her name Forgiveness’ twin showed no mercy to a man of any kind. , Forgiveness reasoned. Upon the creaking of the bedroom door Forgiveness tried her best to make Kagome smile by sending out ‘happy thoughts’ that humans seemed to rely on so heavily. Kagome and Inuyasha definitely needed it to cool down their tempers: The Kanna Breathing Technique for Beginners was ideal considering that the actual host herself was about as dead (or alive) as a rock…
…that was sleeping…
…being buffeted by 120 mph winds…
…and being pecked on by crows…
…but Kagome’s lips didn’t even twitch
Inuyasha eased open the bedroom door with his foot and stepped through with a tray, while using his senses to try and determine what mood Kagome was in. He sat on the edge of the bed and pushed the tray towards Kagome who looked at it with a blank face.
“Breakfast?” he tried hopefully.
“What’s this? A cheap of way of trying to say sorry?”
“Kagome-“
“I don’t want to hear it. Just go to work will you? I’ve taken the day off just so I can be busy and not have my mind on you.”
‘Ouch’ Inuyasha thought and obliged to Kagome’s request. It was going to be a long week indeed…
***
Kagome had never cleaned the house so fast. The mirrors were simply gleaming; the floorboards dusted and mopped to a brilliant sheen, cobwebs in those inconspicuous corners had disappeared down the vacuum cleaner…
The list could go on but the fact of the matter was the whole house was ‘Mary Poppins’ spotless. As she was making good use of her ‘sickie’ day, Kagome found her mind didn’t stray once towards the hanyou, what he might be doing, who he might be meeting with, that kinda thing. He wasn’t in her mind as usual; she wasn’t thinking about when he would come, what she would cook him for dinner, what he would bring home for her.
Her brain was receptive to all thoughts but him.
Deciding that some shopping was in order, she did exactly that. When Kagome got to the shopping mall, she’d only intended to go food shopping and come home. But something inside of her let loose and roared: ‘spend Inuyasha’s money!’ She took out the platinum credit card he’d given her ‘in case of emergency’ and to be honest this was an emergency: Kagome felt she needed one last pick-me-up for the day and if she didn’t get it then she’d be in a worst mood for the rest of the week and that was an emergency. She might…break a nail or something! But Kagome knew she wasn’t that superficial…her hair might start developing split ends instead.
By the time she returned home, just before Inuyasha came back, Kagome, laden with all her expensive bags, collapsed onto the couch, exhausted and yet totally relaxed. She knew that all this shopping wouldn’t make a dent in Inuyasha’s finances and she also knew that she hadn’t hit him where it hurt the most. Inuyasha could pass off everything as a fluke, a mistake, or that it didn’t matter to him, which in most cases, didn’t. However his one weakness was and is Kagome. He could crumble within a matter of minutes when it came to his wife, whether he was protesting against something or she asked him for something. It didn’t matter; Inuyasha made his future, his life, based around Kagome and he couldn’t deny her anything.
Kagome knew that this was hurting her husband, if his behaviour and actions were anything to go by. But for some reason she just couldn’t muster up the sympathy for him. She was beyond angry with him now. All she felt presently was contentment and by the time Inuyasha returned she’d be feeling…empty, devoid of emotion for him. She’d still cook his food and listen if he talked but she couldn’t bring herself to forgive him just yet. Not just yet.
And so it was when Inuyasha walked through the front door, a look of extreme depression across his features, Kagome, despite her best efforts, accidentally let a show of emotion slip, like her eyes watering or her face relaxing into sadness when she wasn’t doing a fixed job. Inuyasha’s sullen eyes that pierced her soul, or those ears flattened back against his head that brought out Kagome’s ‘more sensitive than usual’ side, didn’t work, not that it was a ploy. Kagome went about her final routine for the day and retired to *her* bedroom.
Inuyasha retired to his *couch*.
And so the fun continues…
