Violet hair reached down to her back. Her cobalt blue eyes burnt brightly with the idea of vengeance. She clenched her fists, staring down at the faded scars that ran up her arms. The tattered pale pink kimono she wore was all she had to her name. That, and the battle-scarred katana on her left hip. She struggled to stand, badly wounded from a previous battle. The violet ears atop her head twitched as a gentle breeze blew her way. “I will kill him, Father,” she swore aloud. “He should not live. He should not walk on the earth, which you now lay beneath. His blood should have been spilled long ago, but my body was too weak to allow it.” The woman smiled and glanced down at her wrists. Two spots of pink light shone faintly beneath her skin.” “But now, with these pieces of the Shikon no Tama I have acquired, we will exact our revenge.” She smiled again, catching the scent of her father's murderer. “Mark my words, dear father. Sesshomaru will die.”

The youkai lord of the west sniffed the air. He sensed a strange presence looming over a nearby village. “Lord Sesshomaru!” He turned to see Rin running in his direction. “What is it, Rin? What troubles you?” “I was gathering flowers near a small village nearby when a demoness attacked. She kept asking if they knew where to find you, Lord Sesshomaru.” Sesshomaru's face remained emotionless. “Take me to this village, Rin.”

As they came close to the village, Sesshomaru's nostrils filled with the stench of fresh blood. He soon saw many bodies scattered across trampled grass. Huts and other small buildings had been completely flattened. Amidst the bloodied battlegrounds, he noticed some movement. Swiftly, he scooped up Rin and leapt towards the remains of a tiny hut. “Please! Is anyone there?” came a muffled voice. Rin jumped out of her protector's arms and began working to free the person. “Yes. Don't worry. We'll get you free! Won't we, Lord Sesshomaru?” Sesshomaru looked down at her pleading face and nodded reluctantly. He bent down and helped his young charge free the person from the rubble. Soon, the form of a young male became visible. Sesshomaru quickly moved the last of the wreckage as Rin pulled the man free. “Thank you so much for saving me. I was sure I would perish beneath my own house. Or, former house, I should say.” Rin smiled and Sesshomaru looked at the man. It was obvious he had suffered great injury from the attack. “Tell me, what was it the demoness wanted? Why did she attack your village?” “I am not certain. At first, we were certain she was after the Shikon jewel shards. But, when we offered them in order to protect the village, she stated she had no use for such objects. It was only after she destroyed nearly everything that she decided to take them.” “If she had no interest in the shards, then why attack your village as opposed to the others around you?” “Again, I no not. Only that she kept shouting out someone's name. All while she attacked she kept shouting the name `Sesshomaru'. She grabbed people and held her katana to their necks and asked of his whereabouts. If they did not know, she slit their throats and let them bleed to death. I am lucky that my house caved in before she found me, or I fear I would have suffered the same fate.” “Why not lie, then?” “She obviously thought of this, too, sir. She told us that, if we were to lie, she would smell it. She boasted that she could sense the difference between lies and the truth.” “At any time, did she say her name?” “No, sir, only the name `Sesshomaru' passed her lips. His, and no one else's. She claimed… she was out for revenge.” Sesshomaru began to walk away with Rin close behind. Suddenly, he turned back towards the boy. “Boy?” “Yes, sir?” “Should this demoness cross your path again, tell her the Sesshomaru is searching for her as well.”
