~~Chapter 8: Dream of Silver and Gold~~
Lost in a world were nothing made sense, where colors collided, Kagome tried to make sense of the things around her. Flashes surrounded her, wind whipped her black hair around, tossed her around like a rag doll. Someone was talking to her, lots of people were talking at once. She couldn't make out the words, couldn't see them.
As fast as the colors twined together, they separated, matched their appropriate object. Glowing beads surrounded her, danced around her. Kagome frowned.
“Oswuari!” A female voice hollered in the distance. A sudden crash made Kagome gasp, look around the forest, looking at the dark sky. “Oswuari!”
Wood creaked, followed by a male scream and a water splash. Kagome looked up, trying to make sense of the words that echoed in the forest. A flash of red zipped by her, a flash of silver…
`What is this?'
Kagome turned around, being met with only the silence of the forest. A tall tree stuck out from around the others. `G-Goshinboku…the one at the shrine. Home!'
Kagome raced for the tree, intent on finding her family…making sense of the world she was suddenly in. When she finally got there, she didn't see anything…only a tree surrounded by more trees. Kagome frowned, confusion seeping in to her brown eyes. What happened to her house?
She walked around the tree, looked at it. Her heart sped up, the tree pulsed.
“Kagome…remember…”
Kagome winced. `Remember what?'
“Us.”
Shaking her head, Kagome started walking away from Goshinboku. She felt something pulse behind her, turned around, saw an arrow on Goshinboku. Kagome stepped over to it, looking at the arrow. She blinked.
In sync with the tree's pulses, someone appeared, the arrow appeared. `A-A boy…'
His face was blurry, but the rest of him wasn't. Dressed in a red haori and a matching hakama, his head was to the side. Silver hair cascaded around him, adorable appendages laid still on top of his head.
`Dog ears! He has dog ears…' Kagome reached up towards the ears. She grasped one with the tree pulsed again, watched as it slipped through her fingers. She couldn't touch them, couldn't touch him. He was right there and yet, her hands went right through him, she couldn't reach him…
`Why does it hurt? To know I can't touch his fuzzy ears?'
`You don't know?'
`Should I know?'
`I think you should…by now anyway. You don't know who that is?'
`No'
`Oh…'
Kagome grimaced, walked away. `Tell me who.'
`I can't do that. You must do that on your own. You're so locked away, you've lost even the smallest hints of who that was.'
`I-I…I don't know who that was.'
`You know who that was…you just don't want to remember.'
Kagome blinked, sat by the base of another tree. She leaned her head back, closed her eyes. `I don't want to remember?'
`No, you don't. If deep down you wanted to remember, you'd open your mind and completely open your heart.'
Kagome sighed. `Maybe I don't want to remember…maybe I'm better off.'
`I think maybe you are.'
`Would it hurt to remember?'
`Probably.'
`Then I don't want to…'
The voice sighed. `Then you shouldn't…'
Kagome furrowed her eye brows. She opened her eyes. For only a moment she thought she was crazy, before she blinked quickly. Before her, were the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen. Golden swirls danced in the eyes, silvery bangs with black eye brows.
`A-An angel…'
She was mesmerized. A wicked glint lit up before the eyes locked with her. She thought she knew the eyes, reminded her of someone she knew. These eyes were different though. These were bright with happiness…with wonder. The golden eyes she barely knew, they were solemn, almost lonely. These…these made her breath hitch in her throat.
“Kagome…”
Kagome gasped. She blinked and when she looked again, the eyes were gone…the person was gone. She looked up at the full moon. “Kagome…”
She looked around, trying to see who was calling her. The male voice soundly familiar…
“Kagome.”
`Don't call me…'
“Kagome”
`What?'
“Damnit, Kagome, open your eyes.”
Kagome opened her eyes. `My eyes are open.'
“Kagome…wench, open `em. Wake up, Kagome, wake up.'
She heard footsteps coming towards her.
“Don't get excited…I still think you're pretty useless.” The voice besides her spoke, crossed his arms over his chest. Silvery hair was all she saw when the world she wanted to discover fell away, leaving darkness, going in to a light that shined.
Kagome gasped as her eyes fluttered open. She winced when the sunlight hit her eyes, narrowed them to avoid being hurt so much. Her head pounded, she moaned softly. Strands of silver hair were over her. It took her a minute to figure out InuYasha was standing over her…with a bowl in his hands.
“Wh-Where am I?” Kagome stuttered. Her throat felt dry, her body ached.
InuYasha sighed. “You're in my house. How are you feeling?”
`Like a truck just ran me over…'
`Pfft, a truck? Try a ship…'
Kagome grimaced. `Why do I feel like this?'
`Remember…Hojo drugged us.'
The memories filled her mind. Kagome gasped softly. The day replayed in her head, making her shudder involuntarily. “Not so good…”
InuYasha set the bowl down, grabbed a glass of water sitting on the night table and grabbed a white pill. He sat on the edge of the bed, put his arm around her shoulders.
`No! Don't touch me!' Kagome whimpered and his arm went slack around her, fell from her shoulders.
InuYasha grimaced. The scent of her fear came off her in waves. She was scared to death of him. “Kagome, I'm not going to hurt you.”
`That's what Hojo said…'
InuYasha opened his palm, showed her the pill. “It's a pain killer and a glass of water. Take it, it'll make you feel better.”
Grudgingly, using her good arm, she grabbed the pill from his open hand. Putting it in her mouth, she grabbed the glass of water and swallowed it. She gave back the glass, inched away from him. InuYasha visibly winced.
“Don't be afraid of me, Kagome.”
She didn't answer. Instead, she laid back down, dragged the wine colored coverlet over her head again. InuYasha bit the inside of his cheek. “You've been asleep for three days, if you're interested. You need to eat, Kagome.”
He tried to pull back the coverlet. Kagome held it against her, her eyes flickered with her fear of him. He swallowed hard. “I-I…You want me to send your mother up to help you?”
She nodded. “Okay.”
She watched as he stood up, glancing at her once before leaving the room. Kagome sat up, slumped her shoulders. `Baka, why are you treating him like that? He saved your ass if you don't remember.'
`I remember…I don't know. Should I be afraid of him also?'
`Of InuYasha? I don't think so…I like him. I never liked Hojo, I don't know why you did though.'

“She's scared to death of me.” InuYasha glared at the glass of juice he had in front of him. Raidon Taka---the oldest of the twins and Kouga's first son---glanced at InuYasha from across the table.
“Well, if I was a human girl that had just endured what she endured, I'd be pretty afraid of males myself.” His sapphire eyes flickered towards InuYasha. He sighed, drummed his claws against the surface of the table. “You know Uncle, maybe you ought to consider giving her some time.”
InuYasha made a face. “Feh! She's my mate, damnit, she shouldn't be afraid of me.”
Raidon sighed. “She won't be afraid for long. A little while.”
InuYasha pondered on if he should break the glass he held in his hands or not. “Her mother remembers, why doesn't she remember?”
Raidon shrugged. “She probably wished she'd forget. Father says that the Shikon no Tama is very precise at the wish it grants. If she wished she'd forget, why would her family forget? She obviously didn't wish it never happened, because other wise, we wouldn't be here today.”
Point taken. `At least that mangy wolf sired smart pups. Unlike him, stupid Kouga.' InuYasha glared darkly at the glass in his hands. His grip tightened.
“Best you let go of the glass before it breaks Uncle.”
InuYasha narrowed his eyes, but dropped the glass on the table. It teetered over, falling to the side and the juice spilling from it. InuYasha stood up. “Clean that up, pup will you?”
He strolled out of the kitchen, leaving Raidon to clean the juice he spilt.

“Feh! She's my mate, damnit, she shouldn't be afraid of me.”
Akina sighed, stepping away from the back door of InuYasha's house. She bit the inside of her cheek, putting a few strands of her red hair behind her ear. `Father would freak if I told him…'
`Of course he would. He'd flip ten times over. You're father wouldn't appreciate your little secret'
Akina made a face, went to the back door again. She peeked inside, seeing her brother wiping the table with a cloth. Figuring it was safe enough, she slipped inside. Raidon looked at her.
“What are you doing here?”
Akina shrugged, walked past her brother. “Just here to check on Kagome. Is that a problem?”
“No.” Raidon muttered before frowning. “Did you pick up the papers InuYasha wanted?”
Akina waved the manila envelope in front of Raidon's face before dropping it on the table. “Give it to him, will you?”
Raidon growled when Akina sauntered away. She ran up the stairs, poking her head in to the guest bedroom. Mrs. Higurashi had insisted Kagome stayed in a guest bedroom, going against InuYasha's wishes to stay in his room.
“Hello, Higurashi-san.” Akina dropped her back pack on the floor, kicking it to the side. She smothered her uniform skirt and plastered on a big smile.
“You're InuYasha's niece right?”
Akina sighed. `Just his silly niece.' “Actually, I'm his business partner's daughter. My name is Akina Taka…you can call me Aki.”
Mrs. Higurashi smiled. Kagome put down the magazine she was reading and looked up at Akina. “Aki. What are you doing here?”
Akina smiled, walked over to Kagome and sat on the edge of the bed. “I'm here to check on you. You're friends miss you, Kagome.”
“Yeah?”
“Definitely. Anyway, InuYasha said you're mother asked if I could bring your homework. I only brought you one assignment.” She smiled sheepishly. Kagome giggled
“Thank you.”
Mrs. Higurashi rolled her eyes. She stood up. “I'll go put this downstairs.”
Akina grinned. “How are you feeling Kagome? You're looking a little better.”
Kagome sighed. “I feel okay. The bruises hurt only when I put pressure on them.”
“Has InuYasha come to see you?”
“Yeah,” Kagome grimaced. “But I was scared of him. I should apologize.”
Akina shook her head. Her sapphire eyes locked with hers. “You're fear is perfectly understandable, Kagome”
“Feh! She's my mate, damnit, she shouldn't be afraid of me.”
Akina smiled sadly. `You're so lucky, Kagome.'
The girls chatted away until InuYasha stepped in to the room. He leaned against the wall, arms crossed over his chest. Kagome looked at him, gave him a tiny smile. He smiled back. She bit her bottom lip. He looked good, standing there, staring at her. It seemed, dressed in khakis and a white dress shirt, he could almost pull off anything.
`Don't doubt him.'
Akina turned around and InuYasha's golden gaze wavered on Kagome, landing on Akina. She stood up. “It was nice talking to you Kagome. I'll come by later.”
Kagome nodded. “Bye Akina. Thanks for the visit.”
Akina shot her a grin before standing up. She walked over to InuYasha, leaned up to kiss his cheek. “Bye Uncle. I'll see you tomorrow.”
He bent down, picked up her back pack and handed it to her. “Raidon is waiting for you downstairs. Thanks for the folder you picked up. Apparently, your father has a bone to pick with you. Aki, What did you do?” He asked sternly.
Akina blinked innocently. “Me? Not a thing. I think Father might be going crazy these days.” She shrugged. “I didn't do anything.”
InuYasha rolled his eyes. “Get going. Before your brother starts complaining.”
“I think Raidon really needs a girlfriend.” Akina sighed, but left the room. `Just a silly little girl…'
InuYasha sighed. “If I know her, she probably caused mayhem somewhere.”
Kagome gave a weak chuckle. She twisted her hands on the bed sheets. “InuYasha…I-I'm sorry, for earlier. I had no right to treat you like that when you were the one that saved me.”
InuYasha sighed, walked over to her. Carefully, he brushed the bangs from her face. This time, Kagome didn't flinch. The scent of her fear was only minor. “It's okay. I understand.”
She lowered her gaze. “Still…I'm sorry.”
“Don't apologize.” He sighed. “You really scared me Kagome. I thought I would loose you.”
She smiled. “I'm still here. A-And I was scared also.”
He grabbed her good hand, lifted it to his lips before planting a kiss on it. Kagome swallowed hard. “W-Would you…lie down with me? Only for a little while…”
He blinked in surprise. “I can do that.”
Slowly, she scooted over. He kicked off his shoes before slipping besides her. “Sleep Kagome. I'll wake you up when dinner is ready.”
“Okay.”
He kissed her forehead, let his soothing rumble lull her to sleep. Almost instantly, Kagome was once against sucked in to the world she had left.
Brilliant golden eyes looked at her. “Kagome.”
“Who are you?” She whispered. Protective arms wrapped around her.
“It's me, Kagome. Don't you know?”
She whimpered. “No.”
“It's okay Kagome. I know you know who I am. Let me love you.”
“Love me?”
“Yes…”
She closed her eyes when his lips dropped on to hers. She sighed in to his kiss, let him coax her to open for him. He pulled her closer, against his heart. He seemed so familiar She grabbed a fistful of his red haori, leaned on her toes. He rubbed little circles on her back, making sensations course through her body. She shivered. His scent was earthy, wild…Kagome moaned softly when he deepened their kiss. She sunk her fingers in to his silver hair, reveled in the feeling of his mouth on her jaw, on her neck.
“Say my name Kagome…”
His voice made her gasp, his lips made her moan. Kagome closed her eyes. “I-I…I can't…”
His movements ceased. “Why the hell not?”
Kagome winced. “I-I don't know your name…”
He didn't respond, but when she opened her eyes, she was alone standing in front of Goshinboku. Kagome blinked.
“How could you forget me, Kagome?”
She whipped around, but saw nothing. The chilly wind made her shiver, toyed with her hair. Kagome whimpered, wrapped her arms over her stomach and fell to her knees.
“I don't know…I don't know who you are”
“Keh! Of course you do…you chose to forget me…”
Kagome squeezed her eyes closed. She opened them, gasped when the same golden eyes stared at her. Gentle fingers wiped her tears away. She gasped when she saw the claws. Whispers of silvery hair fell against her shoulder, over her back when he pulled her in to his arms.
“Don't cry Kagome…I-I hate it when you cry. Please don't cry, okay?”
Kagome basked in the warmth he offered her. “Okay…”
