~~Chapter 14: Unbreakable~~
“I want to see you, damnit, I need to see you, but I can't” InuYasha explained and sighed deeply. Kagome looked at their framed picture in New York City sitting on her desk and sighed softly. “The company in South America has major issues. Sesshoumaru would go, but he's up to his nose in work. Kouga and I are going, but as soon as we come back, I promise I'll make it up to you.”
And that would have been perfectly fine, had he really attempted to even call her after that conversation, almost two weeks ago. She couldn't believe what was happening. Only three weeks before, she was sharing the most amazing week with InuYasha Morikami. When they returned to Tokyo the day after that happened, InuYasha had still been as loveable and amazing. They were supposed to have gone out two Saturdays ago and that's when “the phone call” had come in.
Kagome frowned. `I miss him…'
`I miss him to. Maybe your phone isn't working. He came back from Brazil days ago. Maybe he's still buried in work?'
`Maybe' She made a face. `Or maybe he just wanted to touch me and then ditch the silly school girl'
`That's cruel! He wouldn't do that, are you crazy? He's InuYasha, he absolutely adores you. You're starting to remember what he claims right?'
`A little. Only bits and pieces, only him and his Tetsusaiga and a little bit of Kikyou' Kagome dropped back on her led, the bed groaning under her forced impact. Her `adventures' were coming back to her in bits and pieces and only in her dreams.
She remembered InuYasha, his sword, an old priestess, the centipede, the jewel bursting from her body, and more recently…Kikyou. Maybe if she understood their story better it would make more sense. Her dream had been simple, Kagome tied to a tree while InuYasha was busy kissing the girl he called `Kikyou'.
`Hmph!' Kagome groaned when her fat cat, Buyo, jumped on her stomach and made a show of yawning loudly. She scratched his head. “I need him, Buyo. I don't know what sense to make of these dreams, I need him to help me remember.” The cat mewed in response.
She looked at the full moon through her window, smiling at her. `And without him now, I feel like my heart is breaking…'

“Your hands are so small.” InuYasha said, breaking the peaceful silence that had fallen between them. He took her hand in his, rubbed it gently with his thumb. Kagome opened one eye to look at him kissing her hand. She smiled lazily.
“You think so?”
He nodded, letting go of her hand and re-wrapping his arms around her. They had moved to InuYasha's bed after their `fun' after realizing Kagome's bed was wet with the water they had dragged from the Jacuzzi. Once comfy and dry, Kagome had fallen asleep nestled in his embrace.
“Are you excited to go back home?” He asked, whispering. Kagome shook her head and kissed his shoulder.
“I rather spend forever with you here,” She claimed with a grin. He pressed a sweet kiss on her forehead.
“Me too, Kagome. A lifetime with you sounds nice.”
“You shouldn't be down in the dumps, Kagome. All three of them hardly show their faces around home. Mother is a little down also.” Akina took a seat besides Kagome in the cafeteria. Ayumi, Yuka, and Eri made a face before continuing with their conversation on the mysterious disappearance of Hojo.
“I know, but still…it gets to me.” Kagome sighed. Akina shook her head, a smile lighting up her pretty face.
“Tell you what, I'm going ice-skating with my friends today. Why don't you join us?”
Kagome grinned. Since InuYasha had saved her, she had developed a close friendship with Akina. “I'd love you.”
“Great! I'll go where you live so you don't go by yourself. Okay?”
Kagome nodded. Akina hugged her tightly, careful with her youkai strength. “You'll have fun, Kagome, I promise!” Kagome chuckled softly.
After that, Kagome had not paid any attention in the rest of her classes, only thinking about a certain hanyou. She still didn't completely understand the concept of being hanyou or youkai, but she did understand that InuYasha wasn't the only one to be a demon. He had stated that Sesshoumaru and Kouga were youkai. With that, Kagome figured that Kagura was youkai also and so was Kouga's wife----mate. And with two youkai parents….
`That means Aki is a demon also?'
`Yes, basically. Kagura must be to, remember her eyes?'
`Yes, the magenta ones.'
`Yup, yup. Nice, you've thrown yourself in to a world of youkai.'
`It won't be that bad, once InuYasha explains everything to me.'
“Kagome, dear, your friend is here!” Mrs. Higurashi yelled, making Kagome jump. She quickly grabbed her purse.
“Okay, Mama!” She yelled back before giving herself a once over in the full-length mirror. She stuck her tongue out at the girl standing before her and left her room.
She came down the stairs to see Souta telling Akina she looked very pretty and drowning her in compliments. As soon as the boy caught sight of his sister, he sped out of the living room. “Your little brother is so cute, Kagome.”
Kagome snorted. “That's only because you don't live with him.”
Akina raised her delicate eyebrow. “Try living with three older, rude, hentai brothers.” She laughed. “You'd want Souta back in a heart beat”
Kagome giggled. “Come on,” Akina said. “We're gonna be late.”
Walking almost at dusk, Tokyo seemed its busiest. The sight of Taishou Inc. shone in the horizon. Kagome sighed. It was cold and even with her thick jacket, Kagome still felt a shiver. She could see her breath. “Aren't you cold?”
Akina shook her head. “No,” she made a face. “Not really, I don't get cold easily.”
Before Kagome could stop herself, she blurted out “You're a youkai also right?”
Akina seemed surprised by her question, but smiled none the less. “Yes. I take it Uncle has filled you in on his heritage?”
“Only a little bit. Maybe you could fill me in more?”
Akina scratched her nose. “Well, Uncle InuYasha is a hanyou, half inu-youkai, half human. Uncle Sesshoumaru is full inu-youkai. His mate, Kagura, she's a wind youkai. My father and mother are wolf-youkai and so are my brothers and I. A youkai can live centuries, pushing more than a thousand years. So can hanyous. Oh! And by law, they are only allowed to take one mate so they have to choose wisely. Otherwise they're screwed.”
Kagome laughed. “So you're all youkai.”
“Technically, Uncle is half-human and so is a friend of ours. Her name is Shiori and she's the mate of Uncle's adopted son, she's a hanyou also. Bat-hanyou.”
“Does she look like a bat?” `InuYasha's adopted son? I didn't know he had an adopted son…'
“No. She's really pretty and she's really in tune with her human heart.”
`Human heart?' “Do you have no heart?”
Akina sighed. “We have a heart, but its not the same as a human heart. A human heart is much more in tune with everything within you and your soul. Youkai are much more in tune with their youkai blood.”
“Oh…”
`Wow. That means InuYasha has both right?'
`I don't know.'
`Cheer up, Kagome…'
Kagome looked up at the sky as the first snowflake fell and landed on her nose. `I miss him.'
`I miss him to.'

“This is not to my liking! I could have hired an amateur and he would have done a better job than this!”
InuYasha sucked in his breath through his teeth. The bitchy lady dropped the blue prints in front of him. Sesshoumaru shot a glance at InuYasha who---at this point---was seriously considering sharpening his claws on Mrs. Naomi Czupak, wife of an American doctor.
Counting to ten before answering, InuYasha sighed. Naomi raised her eyebrows in question. “If you want me to re-do the design, I will, but it would require you to re-pay the costs of building. I've already started building your house and it will cost more for me to come up with a design to your liking, have your approval, knock down the structure, clean up, and start all over again.”
“This is ridiculous! Honestly, I specifically asked for certain things to be added to the house. I don't like windows and you put in like a million windows. I rather take the job somewhere else.”
Biting his tongue, InuYasha opened his mouth again. “I would appreciate if you didn't. I was not informed of your specifications, but I will make notes of what you want. I assure you, if I re-design it, it will please you.”
Naomi snorted. “You did a horrible job. My husband was the only one who loved it. Honestly, Mr. Morikami, you aren't designing for just anyone. I have high standards and if you don't meet them, I will not pay you and go to another company. Like I said, an amateur could have done a better job. Hell, I could have done a better job.”
InuYasha growled. “Then do it yourself!” He slammed the blueprints on the meeting table and glared at Mrs. Czupak. “If you come here to insult my work, say an amateur can do it better, and demand I do it again, then leave! I don't have the patience for bitchy people like you. Feh! I'm better off without a client like you.” That said, InuYasha turned around and stomped out of the meeting room.
He slammed in to his office and sat down on his chair. `Damn that woman! I hate her. Think she can insult me and get me to do her house all over again? Keh! I think not. I'll shove those blueprints up her ass'
Moments later Sesshomaru stepped in to the office with a scowl on his face. “That was no way to treat a paying client.”
“Feh! Hell if I care, I have not patience for that.”
Sesshomaru shook his head. “She left and she said she would have her husband call you.”
InuYasha shrugged his shoulders. “Let him. I'm leaving, I'm fucking tired. I haven't seen Kagome in two weeks, I haven't spoken to Kagome in two weeks, I haven't done anything in two weeks besides breathe, think, sleep, and eat this job.”
“Tomorrow we have a meeting with another client. He wishes to have the company support a new cable company.”
InuYasha rubbed a hand over his face and sighed deeply. “What time?”
“Nine”
He growled lowly. “After tomorrow, you won't be seeing me here for the rest of the week.”
That said, InuYasha grabbed his briefcase and left the office. `We need sleep. What have you been running on for the past two weeks? Five hours of sleep and fifty cups of Ramen?'
`Yes'
`Get us home. Sleep and then thinking…'
`K-Keh…'
Sleep now, think later. At least tomorrow was the last day of his hectic two-week job marathon. `I miss our mate'
`Yeah, so do I. Tomorrow…tomorrow I'll surprise her.'
InuYasha looked up at the full moon, `Kagome, do you miss me as much as I miss you?'

“This is my mother, Ayame Taka. And these are my brothers, Raidon, Kiyoshi, and Kin. Watch out though, all three are the same.”
Kagome shook her head. Akina's family had been interesting. Ayame had hugged her fiercely, claming she missed her dearly. Kagome assumed they knew each other from her lost memories. Ayame had stated that Kouga would be delighted to see her, but he was away.
From all of Akina's brothers, the most charming one had been Kiyoshi. Witty and very intelligent, Kiyoshi had seemed to be the quietest one. But he held up a conversation with Kagome for nearly two hours. Raidon had been different. He seemed aggressive, but in fact he was courteous and mindful of his manners---when his mother was there. But Raidon hadn't talked to her much, he had been paying attention to his brand new girlfriend, a small girl by the name of Rini.
And then there was Kin. Kin was the quietest, more reserved than Raidon and Kiyoshi. Kin had almost an artistic view and he complimented Kagome. “Aunt Kagura has spoken highly of your fashion skills. If you don't mind me saying, I believe that you would also be a very wise and beautiful choice to be a model as well.”
`Me a model?' Kagome bit her lip. No way, right? She knew nothing of runway shows or posing for cameras.
`I'd freak! I'd faint! I wouldn't be able to eat cheeseburgers and candy!'
`Cool it Kagome, Kiyoshi didn't say you have to be a model. He just suggested it.'
“Oh my gosh, Kagome look!” Ayumi squealed as she smacked a magazine on Kagome's desk. Looking at the cover, Kagome gasped.
`Oh…Kami…' “Wh-When did you get this?”
“I got it this morning! Its in every magazine I've seen! I knew he couldn't resist a model.” Ayumi looked at the small clip underneath the headline. “InuYasha Morikami and his girlfriend, Japanese supermodel, Takara Meyuri.”
Kagome felt her tears prick her eyes. `A picture is worth a thousand words.' There in front of her, mocking her, was the picture of InuYasha with the supermodel, Takara. They were walking down the street and Takara was holding his hand. InuYasha was busy talking on his cell phone.
`I will not cry…I will not cry.' Kagome chanted like a mantra within her head. Ayumi, now joined by Yuka, was busy chatting at how amazing it was that the press had actually managed a picture of the secluded Morikami. Before Kagome would stop herself, the first tear made its way down her cheek. She stood up and asked to go to the bathroom. Once in the hallway, she sprinted to the bathroom and in to the stall, where she let the waterworks start.
`Oh, Kagome, how could you be so stupid? You let Hojo make a fool out of you and you let InuYasha make a fool out of you.'
He swallowed hard. “Y-You remember?”
She leaned up, looked at him seriously. “Only a little bit. I remember falling in to the well and setting you free. I remember you protect me. I remember the jewel. I remember your sword and the fact that I feel something for you. Something beautiful, InuYasha.”
He hugged her tightly. “I've waited five-hundred years for you Kagome.”
“InuYasha I---”
His soft kiss silenced her. “Talk later Kagome. Right now, just…just let me hold you.”
Kagome sniffed lightly. She wiped her tears away. `He said he loved me. He said---Oh, Kagome, you're so stupid! How could you believe two liars that have been lying since they met you!'
She walked out of the bathroom stall and washed her face. `I can't believe I fell for him, I can't believe InuYasha Morikami double crossed me.' She laughed incredulously as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. `Then again…what would a billionaire want with a silly high school girl when he could have a glamorous and gorgeous supermodel?'
Even though it hurt her dearly, she had to admit, the picture was crystal clear. Takara was very tall, taller than Kagome and Kagome wasn't considered `short'. In the picture she was holding a cup of coffee in one hand and in the other, InuYasha's hand. Her curly brown hair had framed her, complimented her and her green eyes had been looking at the camera, a tiny smirk on her beautiful face. It was the reason Takara was the best supermodel in Japan, her face…her smile.
`Don't say that. He didn't lie to you.'
`Yes he did.'
`Don't break, Kagome. You aren't weak…you're strong. If you think he did then don't stumble, don't hurt. You're…You're unbreakable, your heart is yours and no one else's'
`Mine?'
`Yes, yours. Only yours.'
Kagome sighed and closed her eyes. `Kami it hurts, it hurts so much.'
“You said last night you wanted to love me. You should know how I feel about you, Kagome.”
Kagome shook her head. `I want to love you and for you to love me.'
“I love you Kagome. I have from the very first moment I saw you from the stage.”
“I mean it, Kagome. I'll wait for you. Just, don't make me wait to long.”
“Kagome, are you okay?” Ayumi stepped in to the bathroom and placed a hand on Kagome's shoulder.
“I'm fine, Ayumi.”
“What's wrong? Are you still sad about Hojo?”
Kagome shook her head. “No, Ayumi, its not Hojo.”
`InuYasha…how couldyou?'

“What the fuck is this?” InuYasha bellowed as he crashed in to the publication room. The staff of the popular Japanese magazine all stopped and looked at the InuYasha Morikami. Sitting on his desk after a long day at work, Melissa dropped the kami-forsaken magazine in front of him.
“Nice catch, Mr. Morikami.”
He looked at the magazine and immediately growled. “Tell Sesshoumaru that I left.” That said, he grabbed his jacket and sprinted to deliver a world of threat to the magazine editors and publishers.
“S-Sir, we publish only the truth” one staff-worker said in a quiet voice.
InuYasha growled. “The truth? Are you fucking kidding me!”
The editor of the magazine stepped out of her office. Tall, elegant, blonde hair held up in a fancy bun, she stepped over to InuYasha. “Takara Meyuri personally came to my magazine and told us that you two were going out for nearly a month already.”
InuYasha slammed the magazine on the floor. “I fucking know when this picture was taken, two days ago.” He made a face. “She came on to me when I was talking on my phone. She grabbed my hand and I had to shake her off. I haven't been going out with her! Kami, no!”
“That is not what Takara claim. She per---”
“She can take her claims and shove `em up her ass for all I care. You don't try to spread rumors about InuYasha Morikami, especially ones that are one-hundred percent false. I'll take your fucking magazine out of business if I want to.”
“No!” The Editor yelled. “You can't do that!”
He glared at her, giving her the most formidable face he had. “Are you honestly trying to test my tolerance for annoying people like you?” He stepped forward, she stepped back. “You honestly believe that I can't take your magazine out of business. I am InuYasha Morikami, I can ruin you at the snap of my fingers.”
She squealed. “No! We won't publish the claim again….we-I'll personally take the claim back.”
“Keh!” He snorted before turning around “Do it, quickly. Takara Meyuri is a client that I designed a house for, we were going to see the progress of the house, that's it. Besides, I'm already in love with Kagome Higurashi, publish that.”
That said, he exited with the same crashes he entered. The Editor wiped away her tears like they were a bother. She turned around to her staff. “You took note of her name?”
One nodded.
She nodded. “Good, good. Now, find out everything you can about this girl and publish it.”
The staff looked at her. “M-Ma'm, do you think its wise. After that?”
The Editor laughed and clapped her hands together. “Of course! He gave us permission after all.”
“I don't think he meant it.”
“What he said is what he said. Now, get to work!” She sauntered back in to her office and sighed. “Phew! What a day...”

Such a long day…
`Definitely. This day was horrible, disgusting, hideous, an ab---'
`Kags, I think maybe we should talk to InuYasha.'
`Not today, not tomorrow…later, when it doesn't hurt as badly.'
`Kagome…'
`Shh…sleep'
She snuggled against the giant puppy dog InuYasha had won for her at the carnival. It served as a small solace to what she was feeling.
`Kagome…I'm so sorry, please listen to me…' InuYasha thought as he looked at his to-be-mate through the window. He could smell the scent of her tears and that broke him in places that she would never see.
`Kagome…'
