InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ When all is Quiet, Except the Snow ❯ When All is quiet, except the snow ( One-Shot )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
New Christmas story. I think it's all right. I could have done better but I didn't have enough time. This is like my sixth attempt at this story and I still think it could be better, you tell me what you think; I accept all reviews especially bad ones. They tell me how to make my story better.

When All Is Quiet
Except the snow
She ran through the snow as fast as her human legs would allow. The tears flowing down her face stung her as she ran. The cold winds flew through her jeans and stung her legs. The snow had gathered and was now a few inches high, making it harder for her to run. But she didn't care about the stinging or the snow.

It was a beautiful night in Feudal Japan. The full moon shone brightly above her in the cloudless sky, lighting her path to the well. The snow blanketed the world, lulling it into a peaceful slumber that only occurs in winter.

But the beauty of the night went unnoticed by the girl. Her tears blinded her, but she knew which road to take, she had taken it so many times before.

She didn't know why she reacted this way this time. She had seen them kiss so many times before. But why did she act like this now. She played back the events of this day in her head. And with a sad realization found the reason for her reaction. Today was the day she admitted to herself that she loved him. She could feel her heart break as she walked into the clearing. Why didn't she listen to her mind that was screaming at her to stop and go back.

She did the only thing she could have done. She ran, not even waiting to she the end of the Inuyasha, Kikyo show.

The well was now insight, she ran even faster, ignoring the added weight of her enormous bag filled with Christmas presents.

She fell to her knees as she reached the well. Gripping the lip of the well with one hand and trying to wipe away her now freely flowing tears with the other. She didn't even hear when someone approached her.

Inuyasha broke off the kiss with Kikyo. The air was filled with the scent of clay and earth that obviously belonged to the undead miko before him. But there was something else; there was the faint scent of roses, and wild flowers in spring.
'Kagome'
Then there was the scent of salt, she was crying.

Without a word he left the clearing, leaving a miko who wore a calm, serene mask, behind. But there was a spark of hatred in her eyes. She knew.

He followed the scent that wasn't more than a few minutes old. He found the girl crying at the lip on the well. Too engrossed in her own tears to sense his arrival.

He put a hand on her shoulder only to have her cringe, and cry even harder. Through her tears she mumbled a faint

"Go away." He ignored her and countered with his own question.

"Where are you going wench?" he snapped. Mentally kicking himself. She looked up and threw him an evil glare. The look of sorrow masked by anger on her tear stained face made him flinch.

"Home." She whispered, to tired to back up her glare.

"Why?" he asked harshly.

"I'm not her, you know." She whispered to him. Her head bowed, eyes downcast and hidden by her bangs.

"I'm not Kikyo, and I can't ever be like her. I don't belong here, I don't belong... with you." She said the last words softly, to herself, but he heard. Her words hit him hard, he was stunned for a moment, but didn't understand.

"What are you talking about wench?" he snapped.

"I saw you two." A sad smile twisting on her face.

"You really do love her, Inuyasha. And you deserve to be happy... with her." Her voice was still eerily soft and emotionless. He wondered what she was getting at.

"I care for you, I really do, Inuyasha. So I've made my choice." She didn't even look up or let any emotion into her voice. Her eyes were squeezed shut trying to force back the tears that threatened to escape.

"When this is over, the hunt for shards, I'll leave. I want you to be happy so I'll give up my soul. So she can have it... I'm not Kikyo, and I was foolish to ever think I could take her place in your heart." A single tear squeezed past her eyelids and slowly made its way down her cheek. Illuminated by the moons ethereal glow. (I was gonna end the story here, but that would be wrong, and this is a Christmas fic, sorta)

He kneeled down so he was eye level with her. He cautiously reached up a hand and brushed away the tear. Caressing her cheek with his hand.

"You're right" His voice was soft and lacked it's normal harshness. It was caring and comforting. She leaned into his caress.

"You're not Kikyo. And you never will be. I can't even compare you two." She visibly winced at his words, and more tears fell.

"Because she can never measure up to you." He ended softly. She looked up at him, eyes wide with disbelief.

"You are you Kagome, and I love you for that. You're fun, you tell people what's on your mind. You show emotion. You care about other people, and demons. You don't care that I'm a hanyou. You put others before yourself. And that's why I love you. I don't ever want you to be like Kikyo. You are Kagome, and I like you as Kagome." She captured his lips with hers as soon as he was finished. He was shocked but returned the kiss with equal passion. He ran his tongue along her lower lip, asking for entrance, which was granted. He searched her mouth, exploring every crevice for the first and definitely not the last time.

They only parted for need of air. He rested his forehead on hers.

"I love you Kagome. And only you."

"I love you too Inuyasha, always and forever."

"Always and forever, my Kagome." He captured her lips in another passionate kiss.

The moon shone brightly, as snow began to drift down from the heavens, landing around the couple that didn't even notice.

The sounds of the earth had ceased once more. Giving the couple their time alone. Tonight all would be quiet, except the snow.
