Chapter One

Inuyasha ran through the forest carrying Kagome in his arms. She had gotten hurt earlier and Inuyasha was on his way to the well so he could take her home for help. Inuyasha stopped at the edge of the well and looked down sadly at Kagome, her face was pale and her blood was bleeding through his fire rat kimono, which he had wrapped around her to try to stop the bleeding. "I better not waste time." he said out loud jumping into the well.

On the other side of the well, Inuyasha jumped out and ran out of the building where the well was hidden. He ran up to Kagome's house and opened the door. Kagome's Mother and Souta were sitting in the kitchen.

Miss Higurashi looked up and saw Inuyasha holding a bleeding Kagome in his arms. "Oh my goodness! Inuyasha, what happened to her?" she asked jumping up and running over to Inuyasha. "I was fighting someone and she got hurt." Miss Higurashi nodded and put her hand on Kagome's forehead. "Oh, dear, she has a fever, probably from losing so much blood. Inuyasha, take Kagome into the living room and put her on the couch. Souta, go and get me a wet washrag and some bandages. I'll go and get something to bring the fever down." Souta nodded and ran out of the kitchen and Inuyasha carried Kagome into the living room and layed her gently on the couch.

A little later, Kagome's fever had gone down slightly, the bleeding had stopped and her side was bandaged. Inuyasha's fire rat kimono was drapped over the back of the couch. Now all Inuyasha wanted was for Kagome's Grampa to shutup, when he saw Kagome he started yelling and blamed Inuyasha for what happened to her. "I'm tellin you oldman, I didn't do that to Kagome. I would never hurt her, ever." Grampa crossed his arms and said sourly, "I knew you were trouble and now you've gone and almost killed my grand-daughter."

Miss Higurashi looked up at both of them. "Grampa, please be quiet. You'll wake Kagome if you keep yelling." she said putting the wet washrag back on Kagome's forehead. Kagome groaned in her sleep and mumbled quietly, "Inu..yasha." Inuyasha's ear perked up and swiveled towards her voice when he heard her. He took a step towards her, but Kagome's Grampa stepped in his way.

"Now wait a minute, you're not going near my grand-daughter. Your the one who drags her off to Fuedal Japan and your the one who got her hurt. I'll tell you this now, my grand-daughter is not going back with you so you can just go back on your own now and take the jewel shards with you." he said throwing the jewel pieces at him. Inuyasha caught them and glared at him. Inuyasha was about to say something, but stopped.

'If I go back on my own and take the jewel shards with me, then Kagome could stay here and be with her family. She wouldn't get hurt because of me and...atleast she'd be safe.' Inuyasha looked at the ground, then turned around and walked out of the room.

Inuyasha walked up to the door and grabbed the door handle. "Where you goin? Arn'cha gonna wait for Kagome to get better?" Inuyasha turned around and saw Souta standing behind him with Buyo on his shoulder. "Kagome'll be safer here than with me. I'm taking all the jewel shards with me so she won't be able to come through the well when she gets better." Souta nodded and Buyo jumped onto Inuyasha's arm and clinged to it.

Inuyasha picked Buyo up by the coller and put him back on Souta's shoulder. Souta looked up at Inuyasha and said, "You know your making Kagome sad by leaving her here. She realy likes you ya know." Inuyasha stared at him and asked, "Oh yeah? How do you know that?" "I read her diary all the time." Inuyasha shook his head and opened the door. "Tell Kagome I said goodbye." he said walking out the door and shutting it behind him.

Souta looked at Buyo and held out his hand. Buyo spit something into Souta's hand and he smiled. "Well, we out smarted him. I guess he realy is as dumb as Kagome says he is." he said holding up one of the jewel shards, Buyo meowed and jumped down from his shoulder. Souta put the jewel shard in his pocket and thought, 'I'll give this to Kagome when she gets better. I don't want her to be miserable the rest of her life.' he thought walking into the livingroom.

Outside, Inuyasha stood at the edge of the well, but couldn't make himself jump in. He kept telling himself that it was best if Kagome stayed here, but another part of him didn't want to leave her. 'She has to stay here, she'll be safer.' he thought as he reluctanty jumped into the well that links the present to Feudal Japan.

On the other side of the well, Shippou, Sango and Miroku, with Tetsusaiga, were waiting for Inuyasha, expecting him to return with Kagome. To their suprise, only Inuyasha came out of the well. Shippou ran up to Inuyasha and asked with a worried look on his face, "Inuyasha, where's Kagome? Is she alright?" "Kagome's fine, but she's not coming back." Inuyasha said sadly, taking Tetsusaiga from Miroku and putting it in its sheath.

Everyone looked at him in shock. "What do you mean she isn't coming back? I thought you said she was fine!" Sango said stareing at him. Inuyasha looked away sadly. "I decided that Kagome would be safer in her time. That way she wouldn't get hurt because of me again." he said slowly walking off into the forest by himself.
