InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Winter Message ❯ Realistic Dreams on the Coldest Night ( Chapter 2 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

A/N: Hi all. Sorry for the weirdness this chapter entails, but oh well. Anyway, I made a second chapter (you know, the one that comes after the first) and frankly, it is a bit confusing. So, don't worry if you are confused at the end of this chapter, the next ones should clear things up. Enjoy!

Chapter 02

"spoken"

'thought'

<<spoken between ghost people>>

Kagome dropped to her bed as she heard the door downstairs close one final time. The last few hours had been chaotic. Friends and family had come for a Christmas party at the Higurashi household.

There had been food, and fun, and a mess of comments about how wonderfully Kagome had been doing lately and what she planned to do in the coming year. She had smiled and nodded. There was no sense in telling them she really wasn't as happy for herself as they were for her. They didn't know that her achievements were not of her own account. They really didn't mean all that much to her.

Talk of school wasn't the only thing she found herself ready to scream about. They all wanted to know about any possible boy interests she had. She knew darn well that she was eighteen now and that she could look for a possible future with somebody if she wanted, but she just smiled. Her mother helped her out as much as possible. She hadn't been blind when a certain white-haired boy had been around her daughter.

So when the guests began to leave and the party ended, Kagome found her way to her room. She glanced at the books that sat on her desk, they could wait until later. It was only when her eyes came across the mirror did she once again think about her 'encounter.'

'How could I forget about that?' Kagome wondered to herself. 'Maybe it's just that I'm tired.'

A long slow yawn made its way into the room and the sound of light breathing followed.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>& gt;>>>>>

It was the same dream.

There she is at the well. He stands facing to her, looking down the chasm. Apparent is the direction of his gaze meeting the ground in front of him.

He hands her something, his head bowed slightly and his posture slightly lax. The confusion and loss is there, it's clearer than anything else in the dream.

Then something unexpected happens.

She looks up to his eyes as he raises he his head to meet her eyes. In the short second of searching the boy embraces her. She can't hear him, but she knows what he is saying. He pulls away for a second before placing a soft, full, loving kiss on her lips and then pushes her almost roughly into the well.

The sorrow of his deed weighs upon his features without resistance; though no one thing has let him know directly, one is able to tell that he knows she will not return.

Then, as the white-haired boy turns his back, the sun catches the dreamer's eye and all becomes radiant.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>& gt;>>>>>

Inuyasha slowly shook Miroku's hand. He noticed that it wasn't gloved anymore and that the prayer beads were gone as well.

"Inuyasha," started the monk, "I hope that you find your path to be the correct one. I wish you luck. Where you are choosing to go is not the most...hospitable of places."

"Thanks bouzo," the hanyou replied, "but it think I'll be OK."

'I hope you are right,' the monk thought.

As Inuyasha turned to face Sango she threw her arms around him. She hugged him with abandon.

"Inuyasha," she said as she released him and looked him in the eye. "That was for Kagome-chan, I know she would have wanted to do that. She loved you so much more than you ever figured out. I agree with the houshi. I really hope you know what you are doing. You're a good person, but you can be really boneheaded sometimes. What I guess I'm trying to say is that, I hope this isn't one of them."

There was a mew from the ground.

"Thanks, Kirara." He said as he petted her.

"Has anyone seen Shippo?" the hanyou said as he looked around.

"He knew that this was the time," Miroku noted.

Just then, an object came as lightning out of the surrounding trees and proceeded to attack the white haired boy.

"OI!" Inuyasha barked as he caught the flailing young fox by the back of his shirt and held him at arms length.

"Let me go!" The fox yelled. "Fight fair! I'm going to stop you! You know that what you're doing isn't right. Kagome's going to be mad at you when she gets back."

"Shippo... Shippo!" the hanyou said as he cuffed the fox boy on the head. "I'm sorry, but I have to do this."

"No you don't!"

"Yes, I do, and you know it. Don't be a nuisance for Miroku and Sango either or I might have to come back and shut you up permanently."

As Inuyasha finished he placed the kitsune boy on the ground. "You know, I'll miss you guys, you're family to me. I wish you guys the best of luck. Kagome has the Shikon in her time now, so there's not really anything left for me to do. I'm sure she'll be able to take care of it."

>>>>>>>

The dog-eared boy's statement struck a chord with an unseen and unheard viewer.

'I know I'm dreaming,' Kagome thought. 'I know I'm at home in my bed, but it seems so real. I wonder if he ever really would say that about me.'

As the hanyou finished speaking with his friends he entered the woods. Kagome followed him, running as fast as she could as to not lose him. She ran past Miroku, Shippo, Sango, and Kirara, who were unable to see her go by, and entered the woods.

After about what felt like twenty minutes of running, which she felt surprisingly unfatigued after, she found the hanyou in a small glade, with another.

'No, he's going,' she thought as she saw the hanyou and the other figure embrace, 'he's going to hell with-'

<< Me? >> asked a figure that had appeared out of nowhere at Kagome's side.

<< Kikyo?! >> Kagome yelled out in surprise. In horror she looked back the two in the glade and saw that they had not heard her outburst.

<< Worry not. They can't hear you. >> The apparition at her side assured her. << As for me, I am merely here to help. The one with Inuyasha is not me. >>

<< Then who is it, and why are you "helping" me? >>

<< It is demon. Much like the one Sesshomaru presented to him as his mother. The witch who "revived" me had no such power, few do. Instead, she summoned this imposter to inhabit the body she had created out of my ashes. In a way, it is part of me. It is a youkai manifest of the fear and betrayal I felt before I knew the truth of my death. It has one goal; take him to hell so that he will feel as it does. >>

<< Wow, >> the younger woman gasped. << But still, why am I dreaming this, and why are you here? >>

<< You aren't dreaming, I have brought you so that you may see, and possibly change. Also, I am here because I am part of you. We are different, but there is a link between us, one that concerns the soul, and one that even I do not understand. That is how I knew of Inuyasha's dealings with his half-brother. >>

<< You said that I could possibly change this. What did you mean? >>

<< I have told you before. You must know what you want to happen and say the word.>> the older miko answered.

<< But- >>

Kikyo gave a bright, knowing smile. << I'm sorry, I can't tell you anymore. You must hurry though, Inuyasha loves you, and you must help both of you. >>

Kagome woke to a dark room, the red numbers on her clock read eleven minutes to twelve.

"What is the word?" she asked the empty room.

A/N: Again, sorry for the confusion, the next chapter will be here soon, I hope. Anyway, please read and review. Thanks, and Merry Christmas.
