Inuyasha jumped up the Goshinboku and sat down on one of its branches.

Where could she have gone?! She scent just disappeared in a day!

 

But… This place… Still has her scent everywhere…

 

“Keh! Kagome that little- When I see her… When I see her…”

 

What will I do when I see her?

 

“I seem to see you shadow almost every night… But it just disappears out of the shrine as soon as I look.”

 

Every night…This place is so big! Whatever Tok-yo Kagome calls it! It took me a year and I still can't sniff out anything! Keh! I never thought her mum might actually see me! I need to be more careful…

 

Inuyasha hopped from the tree down onto Kagome's window ledge and flung open the window. The curtain swayed to the night breeze as he jumped off the ledge and landed on the floor in the middle of her room.

 

Inuyasha held his nose high and sniffed the room… This place… is filled with Kagome's scent…

 

“You smell kind of nice…”

 

“Huh? I thought you said you hated my smell…”

 

“I… was lying…”

 

That was the first time he saw someone other than his mother cry for him…

 

She was afraid that I would die…

 

Then why did she still go and disappear without a trace!?

 

She must hate you so much, Inuyasha!

 

Hanyou… You're not worth it!

 

The other side of his mind reminded him…

 

I'm supposed to just protect her…

 

Keh! I can't even find her! I'm so useless! How can her scent just disappear from the face of earth?!

 

Unless…Unless… She's… dead…?

 

NO! Never! Kagome can't die so easily! She won't and she can't! I'm not going to let her die before me!

 

Inuyasha punched his fist on her room floor.

 

But… where could she have gone?

Inuyasha opened his eyes and looked around, sunlight had filled the room and it was snowing outside.

 

Inuyasha blinked…

 

Wait a minute…I remember something…A dream?

It was… smelling of salt water? No…

Tears! Kagome's tears? She… was crying! Somewhere!! That means she's… around here!

 

Inuyasha pricked his nose and started sniffing around…

 

That's right! I smell it! It's very faint! But I smell it! She's been crying a lot! Damn! Where the hell is she now!?

 

Inuyasha closed his eyes and sniffed again…

 

It's…her scent! And tears…but it's so faint…I- I don't know where to start looking from…

 

 

He remembered the day. He was careless enough to fall asleep for a rather long time and let Kagome run off!

 

Keh! She gets into trouble the moment I take my eyes off her!

 

He woke up to find both Kagome and the kotodama rosary gone.

By the time he got into the well and got to Kagome's time,

She was gone.

 

He could smell her still she didn't leave very long ago… Her smell still lingered around the Goshinboku…

 

But that was all… It ended there.

 

It trailed off to her room and the bathroom…and then it just disappeared…

Or rather… The smell changed…

 

That smell was fake… Keh! It was like flowers or whatever but it was fake.

 

Nothing like Kagome's natural scent!

 

Fake… Changed?!

 

Could it be…? Kagome was using something to mask her scent?

 

Baka! Why didn't I think of it earlier!?

 

By now even the fake scent was gone!

 

Damn! If only he thought of it earlier! Where was she now?

 

He knew he wasn't getting any clues from Kagome's mother…Not from Souta…He hadn't a clue either… Not from her friends… She wouldn't tell them a thing if she was hiding from him. Inuyasha knew that Kagome wouldn't like it if he went bugging anyone of her friends either.

 

Damn… He would just have to wait till that fake scent became clearer… Or wait until Kagome came back… Or go into the “PhO-nE” thing again! He was sure that was her. It had to be her…
