Chapter Three:

“Oh,” Kagome muttered quietly as it all clicked in mind. That's why Sesshomaru had the same silky, silver hair and golden amber eyes.

Apparently she had a look of utter astonishment on her face, as Sesshomaru said, “By the look on your face, you know him and dislike him. Am I correct?”

“Well I don't really know him, but well, we had a…run in at a coffee shop this morning and well he left pissed and with coffee stained pants.” Kagome explained in a hurry. She kind of winced before he spoke, expecting to be yelled at.

But he did almost the exact opposite. He laughed as he said, “What was he trying to hit on yet another girl?”

“Umm…actually, yes.” Kagome responded meekly, unsure of the sight before her. A laughing Sesshomaru, something she figured she would never see. (A/n Scary, ne?)

“It amazes me that you didn't get jealous and wish he was talking to you. The world needs more people like you,” Sesshomaru said as he finally quit laughing, but he still had a small smile plastered on his face.

Kagome was more than a little unsure of how to respond so she remained quiet, her cheeks now pink-tinted.

“Well I suppose we're done then. I'll give you a call when we have a cast and the scripts are done. And sorry about my half-brother, I know he can be an ass, but I've already talked to him about starring so…” Sesshomaru ended with a pause.

“Oh, don't worry about it. I'm sure it will all work out just fine.” Kagome responded.

Sesshomaru stood up as if saying the meeting was over. Kagome and Miroku both followed suit. Sesshomaru shook hands with each of them and motioned for them to follow him out the door.

Gggggggggggggggggggggg

The week passed by uneventfully, well that is until the phone call Kagome had been half-longing and half-dreading to come. She only dreaded it because that meant seeing Inuyasha again, but it also meant starting filming.

When the phone call came Kagome was reading a book, but as she had been doing for the past week she instantly picked up the cordless phone she had been carrying around her house.

“Moshi, moshi. Higurashi residence.” Kagome said quickly.

“Hello, this is Sesshomaru. I was calling to tell you that we are planning a meeting tomorrow afternoon at Ryu's Sushi Bar for a late lunch.”

“Okay, that works for me.” Kagome responded eagerly.

“Okay, then we'll discuss who is playing what. Well the main roles anyways, we still have to fill in all the minor roles, but that will be done soon. And if there is anything in the script you don't like or would like to change we'll do it.” Sesshomaru explained.

“Okay,” was Kagome's simple response.

“Oh, yeah. Does one o'clock sound okay for the lunch?” Sesshomaru asked.

Kagome responded yes and they said goodbye and hung up. Kagome as she put the phone down remembered something. A fairly important something…her date with Houjo.

“Shit!” Kagome exclaimed as she dialed his phone number. `Well it wasn't completely my fault, right? I mean, he never called to arrange where or anything.' She kept thinking as the phone rang.

Finally he picked up, “Moshi, moshi.”

“Houjo, it's me, Kagome. I am so sorry.”

“Yeah, it's not your fault, I never called you back to say when or where so it's fine.” Houjo explained, trying to calm Kagome down.

`That's the nice thing about him, you kind of stand him up and he blames himself.' Kagome thought to herself. “Yeah, well, I guess you are right. Anyways would tonight work to go out instead?” Kagome asked aloud.

“Yeah, tonight is good. Where do you want to go?” Houjo responded.

“I don't care, you pick this time,” was Kagome's response.

“Well I'll surprise you then. It will be a nice restaurant so dress formal and I'll pick you up at seven tonight.”

“Okay, well I really better go. I just called to say sorry. Bye,” said Kagome quickly.

“Okay, well I love you Kag, see you tonight. Bye,” Houjo barely got out before Kagome hung up the phone.

“I really need to break it off with him, we don't have the same feeling for each other at all,” Kagome thought aloud, “It is only two in the afternoon and I have absolutely nothing to do. I suppose I could finish Kare Kano, at least they can overcome the struggles in their relationships.”

Kagome decided on being lazy and plodded over to the living room, put the DVD in and plopped down on the couch. She was on volume three of the series and was once again lost to the world.

She watched Kare Kano until five, only getting up to switch the DVD's and to get some popcorn.

At five-thirty Kagome decided to get ready for her date with Houjo. He was always early, that was one of the things that had always pissed her off, but you get used to it when you've dated for three years. You just had to adjust, if he says seven, be ready by six-thirty.

Kagome went upstairs to pick out a dress and shower. She ended up picking a knee length black dress, with criss-crossing straps in the back. The dress molded her form nicely.

Kagome took a long relaxing shower and stepped out refreshed when she was done. She slipped into the dress and started putting some make-up on.

She kept it light as usual. Her appearance seemed better with the natural look, rather than having all this make-up caked onto her face. After she was done she began to blow dry her long, raven hair.

As soon as it was dry Kagome got out her curling iron and began to curl the ends of her hair. The curls were loose but added a little more to her already wavy hair.

Kagome put in a pair of silver earrings and put on a delicate silver necklace with a heart hanging from the chain. It had been a gift from her father as a little girl, but she had always cherished it as she remembered her father fondly.

Even though her memories of him weren't many. He had died when she was only ten at the time. Souta, her younger brother, had only been three. Her mother had taken the loss the hardest, but soon she had managed to cover her grief.

Kagome still knew the heavy burden of tragedy, unwilling to show it to the rest of the family. Kagome glanced at the clock and jumped from her thoughts of the past into the present.

It was 6:15 now and Houjo would be arriving soon. Kagome grabbed a pair of black dress shoes from her closet and went downstairs to wait. Once she was downstairs she put her shoes on and grabbed her purse and sat down on the couch.

As expected Kagome heard the knock on the door at about 6:30. Swiftly getting up from the couch she opened the door. Houjo greeted her with a light brush of his lips against hers and said how nice she looked.

Kagome had almost gagged when he kissed her, he seemed like a brother more than anything. Houjo led her out to his shiny, new car. Being the gentleman he was he opened the door for Kagome, which only sickened her further.

He was too old-fashioned and polite, it drove her nuts.

Kagome really wasn't thrilled about spending an evening with Houjo, he was way too brotherly and after the great time she had with Ryu she really was being extremely pessimistic on how the evening would go.

She could just break up with him now and spare herself having to go, but she decided that might be a little harsh, Houjo never really did anything wrong she just didn't feel the same as before about their relationship.

So she decided she would be bored out of her mind for a couple of hours, then again it wasn't like she had anything else to do tonight. All she had to do was think about how awesome it was going to be working with producing a movie and the evening should be passable.

Kagome decided that maybe she should actually talk to Houjo a bit, I mean they were going on a date. Well sort of.

“So, Houjo, where are we going?” Kagome asked just for the sake of being polite.

“Well I thought maybe we could go to Sakura.” Houjo responded eagerly.

`Of course, the idiot has to pick where we went out for the first time. Oh, how romantic!” Kagome thought sarcastically.

Houjo when she doesn't respond just has to add, “I wanted tonight to be special and that is after all where we first met.” By the time he was done Kagome was having problems hiding her revulsion, but she did manage a smile and was quite proud of herself for accomplishing that.

They rode the rest of the way in an awkward silence. Kagome not daring to say anything else. Houjo finally pulled into a large parking lot that was almost completely full.

Kagome hoped Houjo had made reservations otherwise they would be waiting a very long time.

Houjo got out and Kagome followed suit before he could try opening the door for her. She grabbed her purse and when Houjo saw this he motioned her to put the purse back and said that he would buy dinner and that it wasn't a problem.

Kagome put the purse back, deciding that if he wanted to pay he could.

As it turned out Houjo had made reservations so they were seated right away. The waiter came and asked them what they wanted while handing them menus.

Houjo ordered a bottle of Sake. Kagome would have been way happier with a Mountain Dew, but Houjo had already ordered his forty dollar bottle of Sake that Kagome would drink a grand total of about two sips from.

Kagome didn't really feel like ordering so she excused herself to go to the ladies room and told Houjo to order her whatever he got for himself.

Once Kagome got to the fancy Women's restroom she plopped down on the forest green leather couch.

`I don't know how to break up with him. He seems so eager tonight. Excited almost. But Houjo never gets really excited to see me. He gets excited seeing how his patients are doing. Well I guess just seeing him so happy makes me feel worse about it, but I'm still going to break up with him.' Kagome thought to herself.

She stood up and went over to the mirror to check her make-up. Then opened the restroom door and calmly walked back to where Houjo was sitting. The waiter passed her on her way back so Houjo had obviously already ordered.

“Hi, Kagome.” Houjo said as soon as she sat down.

Kagome, unsure, responded, “Uh, hi.”

“I wanted to ask you something tonight and that's why I brought you here. After all this is where our wonderful relationship began.” Houjo said with a huge smile plastered on his face.

`Oh, great. Here I am trying to break up with him and he is proposing. Well this officially sucks!' Kagome thought to herself. When Kagome didn't respond Houjo began to continue his obviously planned speech by reaching into his pocket and grabbing a small box.

You know like the kind you get at a jewelry store…with a ring inside.

“Kagome,” he said opening the box, “Would you marry me?” He finished hopefully. Kagome knew what was coming and still managed to have her jaw drop in surprise.

“Uh, Houjo…I'm really, really sorry, but I just can't,” Kagome said trying to explain but not really succeeding.

“Why not?” Houjo asked looking hurt, “We've been going out for three years. I thought you loved me. I love you.” Houjo finished pitifully.

“I love you like a brother, Houjo. Not in a romantic way. Houjo, I'm sorry.” Kagome explained.

Houjo just sat there until finally saying, “Oh.” Then he pulled out his wallet, grabbed two one-hundred dollar bills, pushed out his chair and left without a goodbye.

Kagome certainly hadn't expected that. She thought he would take it fairly well.

The waiter with his perfect timing came by with the food, only to see Kagome sitting there alone. Kagome decided she really didn't feel like eating so she explained that Houjo had left, then gave him the money he had left on the table.

As soon as the waiter left Kagome stood up and walked calmly out of the restaurant without thinking.

As soon as she got outside she realized that she didn't have a car, and that her cell phone, money, and credit cards we're all in her purse. Which was sitting in Houjo's car. Kagome went to check and see if the car wasn't there and sure enough Houjo had left.

`How wonderful,' Kagome thought to herself as she looked up the sky. And it began to rain. The drops started slowly, but kept getting heavier until it was pouring down on her.

`Well this is just great!'

A/N Well not much to say. I'm so sorry about the late update! I don't have a really good excuse for it, just school. But as soon as school is out you can expect much faster chapters. As always reviews would be greatly appreciated.
