Chapter XIV ~ I Don't Dance
Whazzup? silverfeather's back! After I posted the last chapter, a great idea came to me and I started writing this chapter almost immediately. Please enjoy!_________________________________
"Sakura Petal Dance..." Kagome read as she and Inuyasha saw a banner with the name over the gym entrance."A school dance...?" she said, tilting her head in wonder. Inuyasha scoffed, saying "Man, I hate dances. They're just mushy garbage with a bunch of lovey-dovey people sucking face and dancing in a style that's been dead for years..."
"That's high school for you," Kagome commented, grinning. "And besides, the waltz isn't dead. In fact, it's one of the most popular cultural dances ever." she added matter-of-factly.
"Keh," Inuyasha said, annoyed. "Sometimes you can be a bit of a smart-alek, y'know that?"
"What's your point?" And with that, he said no more.
As they walked down the halls together towards their classes, Kagome thought about the dance. She had never been to one before. Mostly because she didn't want to embarass herself, since she was also never asked to one. Miroku would always tell her how dances would go with him and Sango. This made her envious, but yet she never attended one. It wasn't that she didn't want to go; she just didn't know how to react around other people her age. She was never very sociable.
If she could go, she thought, she wondered if Inuyasha would go with her. She know what he had said about his opinion of them, but maybe he would make an exception for her. Kagome shook her head of these thoughts. Yes, she loved him, but that didn't mean that she wanted him to do things that he didn't want to just for her. Besides, she was still his tutor. And she figured it should stay like that. For now, anyway.
She settled at that as they both went their seperate ways to their classes.

Inuyasha was so annoyed in his History class. Why? Well, the same reason as he was in every time he was in History class; his brother was teaching it. But he was somewhat more aggrivated because during class, his brother brought up the school dance.
Sesshomaru was always, as he was called, the "Love Master." He seemed to know everything there is to know about romance; how it starts, its stages, effects, everything you could possibly imagine. He was like Cupid; well, if you took away the bow, arrows, wings and giant diaper. Inuyasha knew that this partly came from his deep relationship with Kagura Kazehara, one of the school's art teachers. They both had started going out after college, and have been ever since. Rumor had it that they would eventually get married. Kagura had gotten her job at the school before Sesshomaru, though, attaining it because of her love for art and knack for teaching. She was beyond ecstatic when Sesshomaru began teaching at Midorikon, and since have both been spending even more time together. Because of this, Sesshomaru thought it was the only good thing about Inuyasha flunking the ninth grade.
Inuyasha remembered what he had said to Kagome about dances. He meant it, really he did. But something else began to eat at him; he wondered if; if he ever wanted to go to one, if Kagome would want to go. He was one thing, but she was probably another story. Kagome was a girl after all, and most girls are usually excited about dances. They'd start looking more pretty than usual and showing off to get the guy they like to ask them out. Guys like him, on the other hand, don't care as much. They just take a chance at a hot girl they see, take them out, and be done with it, hoping that the chick wouldn't try and make it into anything serious. Because most girls have that all that emotional crap.
But he was a different story. Who knows? Maybe Kagome is, too. He knew that she wasn't very social, so there was a pretty good chance. Besides, Kagome isn't like other girls he's seen; she focuses more on her work and on the people she cares about; not like other girls who take two hours every morning just to decide what pair of shoes they think would match their outfit.
He also imagined how Kagome would look if she was going to a dance. Despite her almost nonexistent social life, Kagome was a very pretty girl. Not that he had actually noticed, he thought. But a little annoying voice deep inside of him kept telling him that he did. Not that he had actually listened to it. At the moment, anyway.
And yet he imagined her; in a clean light pink dress that didn't show too much of anything, with a few cherry blossoms in her hair and smiling at her. He quickly shook his head rigorously of these thoughts, failing to believe why he was thinking like this about his tutor. Yes, she was sweet, kind, bright, pretty, caring, charming, talented, warm, open, cheerful; not to mention she had the most beautiful smile he had ever seen...
A deep part of him figured it wouldn't be too bad to go with her. Also, he wanted to make sure that hardheaded womanizer Kouga didn't try making any passes at her. Last thing he wanted to see was Kagome hanging around that moron.
He growled, intensely irritated at his own thoughts.
'Grr..!! Why is it that I can't get Kagome off my mind!?'
Inuyasha was immediately snatched from his thoughts as a giant history textbook slammed down on his desk. He shrieked quietly in surprise, and slowly looked up into the annoyed eyes of his older brother's.
"If you want to argue with yourself, Inuyasha, then you can do it during detention," Sesshomaru said sternly, and the whole class began to laugh.
Inuyasha was silent the whole rest of the class.

While in algebra, Kagome for once wasn't focused on her work and more on Inuyasha. She knew what he had said about dances, but she still couldn't help but wonder that if he ever wanted to go to one, if he would want to go with her.
Kagome could imagine him in a silky black tuxedo, with his gorgeous silver hair untied and his polished amber eyes shining at her beneath his long bangs. He would ask her to dance, and they'd prance gracefully all around the floor, just the two of them, no one else around. They'd stop for a moment, and his face would near her's ever so slowly, about to kiss her lips.
Blushing profusely, she shook her head of these visions. She knew she was being selfish, but she just couldn't help it. After all, she loved him, and she wished that they could go further. Even so, she felt that her feelings would probably never be answered, she thought. No, she thought Inuyasha would never want a girl like her. She wasn't very social, she was clumsy at times, and incredibly indecisive. Inuyasha would want a girl more pretty, confident and down-to-earth...
Like Kikyo...
At that, her heart began to ache. She knew that Kikyo used to be Inuyasha's girlfriend, but who's to say that he didn't still have feelings for her? It was painfully obvious that Kikyo still wanted him.
She mentally sighed, wondering if anything would ever come of her love. Though it went against her morals, she desperately hoped that he would like her back.

After the bell rang, Kagome came out last, hoping to meet up with Inuyasha. But instead, she ran into Kouga, who had that lustful look in his eye again. He was apparently waiting for her to come out from beside the door.
"Good morning, Kagome. Still gorgeous, as usual." he commented, lifting a finger to graze her chin. She immediately flinched back, not wanting him to take any more intimate actions with her that she didn't want to be a part of.
"Good morning Kouga. I have to go now, so please excuse me," she said hurriedly as she tried to make it past him, but he sternly kept himself in front of her, blocking her from leaving his sight.
"Look, I just wanna apologize for my behavior the other day. I just get so tempted that I can't help myself," he explained simply. Her nervousness did not waver, however.
"Is there something you want from me, Kouga?" Kagome asked, while trying to think of an excuse to leave.
"Actually yes," he began. "I was hoping if you would like to go to the Sakura Petal Dance with me; be my date."
"No, thanks." she said as politely as she could.
"Still playin' hard to get, huh?" he asked, sighing almost impatiently. Kagome didn't answer as she ran past him, hoping she could get to Inuyasha before he could catch up.
Too late.
She bumped into him and tried to flinch back again, but he had somehow gotten hold of her wrist. She wriggled, but he wouldn't let her go. She shivered as he brought it up to his nose. He inhaled deeply and exhaled soothingly, enjoying her scent.
"My my my, you smell so delectable, my Kagome. Now why don't you go to the dance with me?" he said, not lowering her wrist from his face.
Kagome began to get angry at this guy who just couldn't seem to take a hint. Furiously, she raised her foot and stomped down hard on his. He yelped as he immediately let go of her wrist to tend to his now aching foot.
"Read my lips, Kouga: I will not go with you!!" she said, stomping away angrily towards her next class, trying to put off her fury, leaving Kouga to sulk in his pain.
Unbeknownst to them both, Inuyasha had witnessed the whole thing. He was about to go meet up with Kagome until he stopped and saw Kouga talking to her again. He began seething in hatred for the bastard who wouldn't stop making passes at her no matter how much she refused. He was just about to go over there and beat the living hell out of him for grabbing Kagome, but froze as he saw Kagome stomp on his foot. He couldn't help but laugh to himself as he saw the loser whine over his sore foot as she left.
Inuyasha also couldn't help but notice Kagome when she was angry. That was a side of her he actually had never really seen before. The flare in her eyes and the intensity of her voice; this was strangely attractive to Inuyasha. He also found it extremely frightening, never realizing how fearless Kagome could be, and he decided to leave her be.
