Kagome threw her head back and laughed out loud "You don't know how many times I've heard that and proved the person wrong" She smirked as the couple left. Sango waited till they were around the corner before giving Kagome another high five.

"Wow, that was so totally Fucking Awesome Kag!" Sango beamed in delight.

Kagome smiled back, Two put downs and the day was only half over. How many more surprises could this day possibly bring?

Chapter 2

Kagome left her friends at the top of the stairs and headed to her civics class while Sango and Miroku headed to their math class together. Kagome sat down in her usual seat, second from the back left corner. The seat behind her was empty. Pulling out her picture she blocked out the rest of the class as she finished her angel as the bell rang and the class quickly filled. She only had one friend in this class and that was Ayami, a slight ditz who wore her red hair up in pig-tails and wore a plain white skirt and dress shirt. Her eyes were an acid green.

"Hey" Ayami said, taking the seat diagonally from Kagome.

Kagome looked up "Hey" she replied lightly, not looking up from her picture.

"Settle down class" Mrs. Ashimo said, trying to talk over the many voices. "Now, before we begin, we have a new student"

Kagome looked up to see the new face. The door slid open and a young boy about Kagome's age walked in. he had long silver hair and wore a black bandana, and had piercing amber eyes similar to Sesshomaru's. He had a slim build but was muscular and wore a clawed prayer necklace about his neck. He was dressed in a black T-shirt with the NOFX emblem and dark blue baggy jeans complete with chains. His arms were decorated with bracelets and a few tattoos and he had a pale complexion.
Kagome's heart skipped a beat before beating faster as she took in his whole form.
"Class, this a new student from the Musashi district. His name is." Mrs. Ashimo double glanced at the name chart as if she was looking at the nude picture she had confiscated from Kagome a few weeks ago. She cleared her throat as the new boy side glanced at her, his arms were crossed and he had an annoyed look on his face.

"My name is Inu Yasha" he finished for her as he closed his eyes and scowled slightly

"And why have you come to Tokyo?" she asked with an uncertain smile

"Got kicked outta my old school" he said, shrugging his shoulders

"Thank you, You may take the seat beside Kagome" Mrs. Ashimo said with a forced smile, pointing behind Ayami.

The class followed his movements as he paced to his seat and glanced over at Kagome with mild interest. "So what's your name?" he asked, face rather expressionless.

Kagome looked up, praying she wouldn't blush "Uh, Kagome" she said quietly and feeling her face grow hot. She stared, lost in his amber eyes.

"Quiet you two" Mrs. Ashimo said, looking at the odd couple.
Kagome snapped back to her drawing as Inu Yasha merely stared blankly at the bored. "Now, please copy down the definitions to these words in your books, they can be found in the index" the teacher continued.

A long while later the bell finally rang, Kagome stood and shoved her papers and pencil back into her binder and was about to head out to meet Sango and Miroku. She paused and turned around to Inu Yasha, "Uh, you may wanna hang around with us. It's a tough crowed here, they don't take kindly to us" she said looking up to him.

He snorted but didn't object as he followed her out of the room. Her friends were already by the stairs, Sango tapping her fingers along the banister. She stopped and looked at Inu Yasha with utter surprise, while Miroku looked slightly depressed "Who's this?" Sango asked Kagome.

Kagome smiled, stepping aside. "His names Inu Yasha and he just moved here, I thought he could hang around with us till he gets used to this school" she was slightly blushing, adding some color to her pale face.

Sango grinned and walked up to him "Hi Inu Yasha, I'm Sango!" Inu Yasha looked a little taken aback by her attitude.

Miroku cleared his throat and walked up to Inu Yasha holding out his hand "Hey, my names Miroku" Inu Yasha nodded his head and shook his hand once before letting his hand drop back to his side.

"Well, now that the introduction is over lets grab a smoke before class" Kagome smiled and turned to Inu Yasha "Do you smoke?" Inu Yasha nodded his head. "Great, you can come out back with us" she smiled as they started down the stairs.

They stood away from the main smokers and off to the side against the gate. "So why'd ya get kicked out?" Kagome asked, raising the cigarette to her lips.

Inu Yasha hunched his shoulders "Apparently I told my Math teacher to fuck off" he said mildly, a gentle grin grazing his lips as he took a drag off his smoke.

"Really? I've done that more than a few times and barely get suspended" Sango said, a finger pressed thoughtfully to her cheek.

Inu Yasha flicked his butt and sat down on the parking block. He dug through his pocket and pulled out his pack and lighter. The others following soon after.
"So what do you guys have next?" Inu Yasha asked finally warming up the group.

"Math" Sango and Kagome said in unison.

"History" sighed Miroku, cross glancing longingly at the two girls. "You?" he asked

"Math" he said looking at the ground

"Who's your teacher?" Kagome asked trying to hide her anticipation

"Mr. Lee, in room 201" he said

Kagome and Sango looked at each other and smiled "You're with us then" Sango grinned.

"Better chip your smokes guys, class starts in like 3 minutes" Kagome said, shifting her binder into her other arm to look at her watch.

"By Miroku" Kagome and Sango said, heading down the first floor hallway as Miroku headed up the stairs.

They took their seats at the back with the addition of Inu Yasha. "Ugh, I hate math" Kagome sighed, it was by far her worst subject.

"Really? It's not that hard if it's explained right" Kagome was shocked to find it was Inu Yasha talking to her. "What are we learning?"

Kagome and Sango sighed in unison "linear functions" Inu Yasha tried to suppress his grin.

By the end of class, Kagome and Sango got a hold on what they were doing with a lot of help from Inu Yasha.
"Thanks a lot" Sango grinned, surveying their work as they left the class. It was finally the end of the day. "What time are you coming over Kagome?" Sango asked.

"Um, I don't know. I should take a shower before Naraku gets home…probably around 4:30" she walked in silence for a moment "Oh, do you wanna come over Inu Yasha?" Kagome asked sweetly.

"Uh, sure" he said uncertainly, rubbing the back of his head.

"Great! You can come straight to my house, then we can go to Sango's" Kagome babbled on, unaware of the slight blush spreading across Inu Yasha's cheeks as he walked in silence.

"Miroku's coming straight over so we'll wait for you guys" Sango said.

Just then Miroku met them at the bottom of the steps, a very distinct handprint on his left cheek. He tried to look innocent and earning a glare from Sango "Lecher" she mumbled.

Inu Yasha looked rather confused. Kagome leaned close to him "He has a problem with stroking things he really shouldn't get that close too." She mumbled.
"Let's go, were gunna miss our bus" Kagome urged.

They boarded their bus, sitting near the front since they were pretty much the first ones off. Kagome at with Sango, Miroku in front of them and Inu Yasha behind them. "Hey Kagome, bring over that mixed CD you made a few weeks ago" Miroku turned around as the bus started moving. He sat sideways in his seat, his back against the window.

"Can do" she nodded her head, sliding down into the seat and resting her knees on the back of Miroku's seat.

It was about 20 minutes before the bus rolled to a stop at Sango's house, she Kagome waved to Sango and Miroku as they stepped off "See ya's in a bit" she hollered after them. She sat up, sitting with her back to the window and her chin resting on her knees and she closed her eyes.
She opened her eyes a few minutes later; it was only a block before her stop. "Next stop is us" she said turning around but was shocked to find Inu Yasha fast asleep, head resting against the window. She smiled at the peaceful look on his face, wishing she had a camera. "Hey, wake up sleepy head" she said gently, shaking his shoulder.

He opened his eyes half way, peering at Kagome "what?" he mumbled groggily sitting up in the seat and rubbing his eyes.

She grinned "Next stop is us" and as if on cue the bus rolled to a stop. She stood slinging her black bag over her shoulders and walked down the steps of the bus. Inu Yasha stopped beside her and peered up the many steps to the Higurashi shrine. Without hesitation Kagome started climbing them and stopped about the 6th step. "You coming?" she almost laughed at his expression "Don't worry, looks like more than their actually is" she grinned "Now hurry up before I think you're just trying to snag a look up my skirt" she smiled evilly.

Inu Yasha nodded and started climbing them one by one. "So who all lives here?" he said now taking the steps two at a time.

"Well, a long and happy time ago it was my mom and dad, my little brother Souta, my jii-san and me. But now Souta lives with dad in Hiroshima, grandpa died years ago, and my mom's pimp moved in who's a real asshole" she said, now short of breathe as they reached the top of the steps.

Inu Yasha just nodded as he took in the Higurashi grounds. "What's with that tree?" he said, looking at the oldest tree on the grounds, surrounded by a short wooden fence.

"Oh, that's the Goshinbuko. It's a prayer tree that's more than 500 years old." She sighed. "This place used to be a really beautiful when jii-san was alive" she said sadly, pausing before the tree and clasping her hands before her, bowing her head and mumbling a prayer. The grounds were covered with years of fallen leaves, the shrines were grown over with vines and the grass grew tall and wild. "We don't get tourists anymore, mom closed the shrines down after her and dad divorced." She glanced around "Hey, let me show you something" she led him over to a large shrine, sitting by its self. The roof was missing numerous shingles and the wooden walls were rotting and falling off.

"What's this?" he asked curiously, following her carefully up the rickety steps.

"It's a private shrine that no one is allowed to enter, I haven't been in here in years" she slid the ancient door open and entered behind Inu Yasha. She slid the door closed, the hole in the ceiling let in enough light to see by and the rays of sun shone down upon an ancient well. The top was boarded over and sealed with numerous sutras. She stepped down the rotten steps with practiced ease and walked over to the well. She slid the lid off and peered down.

Inu Yasha followed her, leaning his arms on the edge and peered down from the other side. "Is there any water in the bottom?"

"Nope, it's called the bone eaters well, or the dry the well" she leaned her arms on the cool stone edge. Inu Yasha noticed a rope later hanging down to the very depths. "I used to climb down there and cry when my family was fighting, or just hide there when I wanted to be alone" she said quietly, staring into the depths.

Inu Yasha looked over at her; her eyes were filled with sadness and depression. "You've had a hard life" he said rather than asked.

Kagome's eyes filled with tears but she blinked them away. "You know, there's bones down there" she tried to change the subject. "They look like giant snake bones, wanna see them?"

Inu Yasha barely had time to answer before Kagome was already swinging herself over the edge and clambering down the rickety later. "Hey, wait up" He climbed down with her. Once at the summit they took a few seconds so their eyes could adjust to the dark.

Kagome squatted down "See, I've never seen these kind of bones before" she picked up a length of ribs and vertebrae and showed them too him.

Inu Yasha peered at them with interest "you're right, they do look like serpent bones"

"I've never found the skull or any limbs, no matter how far I dug" she looked at the ground.

Inu Yasha could see the earth had been disturbed and was rather irregular in some areas. They stood in silence; Kagome had her hands clasped in her lap, staring at the rock wall. Inu Yasha stood with one hand in his pocket, staring at the bones she had collected in one pile. Both were starting to blush. "So, tell me about your life" Kagome asked shyly.

"Well, I've been to 6 different schools. 4 of them high schools. I live with my mother, my father died years ago, I never met him. I do have a half brother but we haven't spoken in about 6 years. So now we live here in Tokyo" he sighed

"Does your mother treat you well?" she asked quietly

"Ya, most of the time. She understands my life, knows how I feel so it makes things easier" he said looking to the top of the well at the sky above. "But, she does act abusive when she gets into the alcohol or drugs. She sometimes slaps me across the face" he added quietly

Kagome leaned against the cool stone wall and looked down to the earth floor, a single warm tear sliding down her left cheek. She closed her eyes as more fell. Before she knew it, Inu Yasha had wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. She buried her face in his shoulder as she sobbed freely, relaxing under his gentle touch.
In the short time they had known each other, she had figured him to be a tough guy, not letting anyone get too close. Now she had been proven wrong.
He gently stroked her back as she fell into silence. She pulled her head back, make-up smeared across her cheeks. "Thank-you" she mumbled, wiping her eyes. "I don't know what came over me," she said guiltily.

He grinned gently "No problem" He felt rather strange, mind going in two directions. He had only known Kagome for about 4 hours yet had pulled her into his arms as though they had been friends forever and it had only felt natural.

"We should get going" she said looking at her watch, "We gotta be at Sango's in like 45 minutes" She grasped the rope of the latter and began climbing. Inu Yasha followed after her and glanced up getting a good view of her lacy black underwear. He climbed out after her and up out of the shrine. They hurried across the shrine grounds to the front door. Kagome slid it open and tiptoed inside where she stopped, listening for voices. She let out a sigh of relief "It's clear, Naraku is working late"
She led him up to her room, her things scattered across the floor and desk, her bed was a mess of navy blue sheets and her window was open.
He sat backwards in her desk chair, watching her go around and picking out any clean clothes she could find and kicking off her boots in the process. He spun back and forth gently, glancing across her walls at the many posters, song lyrics and her many doodles and designs tacked haphazardly across her room. He then looked out her window; it seemed you could see all of Tokyo spread out before them. "I'll just be a minute," she said, stumbling out the door as her toe got caught in a bra. "Damn death traps," she mumbled kicking it off.

Inu Yasha grinned to himself, returning his gaze to the outside. Should he tell her his secret? They had already confided with each other their deepest secrets. He had never told anyone what his mother was like sometimes when she got depressed. He leaned over and looked her alarm clock; it was 5 to 4.

About 10 minutes later Kagome came out of the bathroom fully dressed in a dark plaid skirt and a white short-sleeved blouse. She had discarded her fishnet and knee high boots but was still wearing dark makeup and her studded bracelets. She had also added a silver metal choker. She sat down on her bed and kicked away some clothes, uncovering some shorter leather boots. She slipped them on, zipping up the side and giving her sleek hair a final brush. "Ready to go?" she asked just as the door downstairs shut with a sharp slam. She gasped and looked to her door as heavy footsteps echoed up the wooden staircase. Inu Yasha could smell the liquor from Kagome's room, and could tell by the uneven footsteps that he was drunk. Kagome stumbled to her door and tried to close it as Naraku shoved it open with one hand, knocking Kagome to the floor. His eyes were glazed and he had a malicious grin on his gaunt face. His hair was long, black and unkempt. He wore a white dirty muscle shirt and faded blue jeans.

"Come here you stupid little bitch" he groaned, grabbing her by the wrist and dragging her out into the hall. Inu Yasha jumped out of the chair and watched as she tried to stand but Naraku slapped her hard across the face, knocking her against the wall. She yelled in pain as her head smashed hard against a glass photo frame. She felt the glass pierce the back of her skull, felt the warm blood trickle down her neck.

"Fuck off you pervert!" she hollered to his face and knocking his hands away. She could smell the rank smell of rum on his stale breath as he leaned his body close to hers, pinning her against the wall. "Inu Yasha help me!" she cried in pain and fear, tears brimming in her eyes. He jumped towards them. He clasped his hands together and swung with all his strength, letting go a battle cry he slammed Naraku across the right side of his head. He collapsed to the ground in an unconscious heap.

Inu Yasha stood there panting slightly, shocked by what he had done. His eyes were wide as he stared at Naraku's body. He looked over at Kagome; she was sitting on the floor, knees against her chest and looking at Naraku. A smear of blood ran down the wall and glass littered the floor. "Is he dead?" she choked out, releasing more tears.
He rolled Naraku over onto his back. A trickle of blood ran down from his temple. He pressed a finger to his neck and waited. After a moment he stood "Ya, he's alive" he sighed

Kagome didn't reply, she was sobbing, hands wrapped around her knees.
"Come on, we better get to Sango's" He pulled her up into his arms. As he did so, she only briefly saw he had dangerously long pointed fingernails but instantly forgot it in the blur of her pain and fear.

"I was so scared, If you weren't here he would have had me" her voice muffled as she started to sob uncontrollably into his shoulder. He held her tight as her breathing regulated and she calmed down some.

"Come into the bathroom, we should clean that wound" He led her by her hand into the bathroom. "Sit down on the toilet with your back to me and raise your hair out of the way" he instructed. She tilted her head foreword and pulled her hair over her shoulder. He could see a few stray shards of glass imbedded in her neck. "You got any tweezers?" he asked

"Ya, in the medicine cabinet." She said pointing over the sink.

He found the tweezers, some gauze, a syringe and some peroxide. "Now this might hurt some" he warned as he took hold of the largest piece of glass and pulled gently. She groaned in pain but didn't move. Then he moved on to the other pieces one by one. He had found a total of 5 pieces of glass. He filled the syringe in the sink with warm water and wrapped a towel around her shoulders. "Hold still" he rinsed away the blood, dabbing gently with the gauze. "Good, no more pieces."

"Will I need any stitches?" she asked uncertainly

"Nope, no hold still. This will sting," he warned her, filling the syringe with peroxide. He felt her brace for the pain. He took a deep breath and squirted the wounds. Kagome tensed, gripping the toilet seat with her free hand and grunted in pain. He waited a few seconds before giving it a final wipe. "You're good, the wounds have stopped bleeding. And you may want to change your shirt"

Kagome stood and turned around, her eyes still puffy and a red welt forming on her left cheek. "Thank-you" she whispered, voice hoarse with tears and pain.

While Kagome changed, he drug Naraku unceremoniously into their bedroom and dropped on the floor with a hollow thump. He closed the door behind him just as Kagome opened hers. She had fixed her make-up and changed into a black nylon T-shirt with an oriental dragon outlined in red across the front. "Ready?" she smiled sweetly

"Yep" he grinned back, following her to the stairs. On the way down he asked "Do you want to sleep over at my house tonight?"

She looked at him in mild surprise but nodded "Ya, I think it would be a lot safer" she said relieved.

Long enough chapter? I tried to describe the situations as best I could. And I was bored so I thought I'd throw in the episode down the well ;) Any Idea what Inu Yasha's secret is? I'll bet you'll never find out!

Please R&R!
