Youkai Ketsueki Tanshuku
I (sadly) own no Inuyasha characters... Id settle for Kouga... Sesshy even, just one flippin hot guy!
Kouga watched the clouds in the night sky, searching for hidden shapes that peppered the sky. When he was younger, this was a favorite past time, now it was a memory he had just chosen to relive. Closing his eyes, he let a single tear slide down his cheek.
Rustling from teh bushes behind him told him some one, Kagome by her scent, was near.
"Kouga?" Kagome asked curiously. It had been three months since Kouga had decided to join Inuyasha as they searched for the jewel. He opened his eyes, allowing more tears to water the ground below him.
"What's wrong?" Kagome asked, this time her voice dripped with concern. "It's nothing... really." Kouga said, his eyes revealing the lie his voice concealed. "Are you sure?" Kagome prodded.
Kouga looked at the moon and sighed. "Kagome, did you know you weren't the first one I loved?" Kagome's eyes widdened. "Huh?" She muttered, looking down.
"Yeah, when I was younger... I was the son of the leader of the Full Moon Wolf Pack, a pack long since dead. But the son or daughter of a leader was often part of an arranged marraige, an alliance, between to packs. When I was ten, my father introduced me to Fiora, a fiery wolf demoness of nine. At first, I hated the idea of an arranged marraige, but after spending time with Fiora, I agreed." Kagome watched as Kouga smirked to himself, and ran a hand through his coal black hair. "Fiora and I... We went everywhere. Aside from being my mate to be, she was my best friend. I told her everything. When we grew older, around fifteen I believe, she would often tell me of the pups she would bare me, and how I would rule the wolf pack better than any ruler before me." Kagome tilted her head, as if pondering Kouga's statement.
"Fiora grew sick one day, I believe she was sixteen. I was out on a hunt, gathering food for the pack, when Aira, Fiora's friend came looking for me. Fiora had collapsed and wasn't responding to anyone." Kagome watched Kouga with sympathy.
"I ran back and when I got to her, she was awake, but just barely. She told me how weak she felt..." Kouga stopped talking as he trailed off into a memory he'd long forgotten...
"Kouga..." Fiora whispered hoarsly as Kouga approached her bed, eyes ladden with worry for teh one he loved. "Fiora, I'm here." Kouga whispered into Fiora's delicately pointed wolf ears. "I feel... weak..." Fiora looked up at Kouga and smiled, melancholy hanging around her, "Is this the end for me, love?" Kouga shook his head sadly. "NO! You're gonna pull through, and we're gonna have many pups. You'll be okay..." Kouga stroked Fiora's bright red and black hair, causing Fiora to drift into a peaceful sleep, "Thank you my love"
Kouga snapped back into the present at the sound of Kagome's sniffling, "Damn, why couldn't I stay in the past?" Kouga muttered to himself before continuing with his story. "Fiora got better after that, but she would often go weak, or pass out. About a year later, a month before we we're to be mated, Fiora started showing signs of severe illness. She went blind, and her hearing dulled. I sought out a demon healer, but they could do nothing." Kagome paused, as if revisiting Fiora in some time long passed. "Fiora had contracted Youkai Ketsueki Tanshuku, which put plainly means her demon blood was evaporating." Kouga clenched his hands, his knuckles going white as he cursed colorfully. "A week later, Fiora had completely shut down and responded not even to me... But the devastation I felt was soon even more as she began the last faze of youkai Ketsueki Tanshuku."
Kagome's eyes implored Kouga to continue. When she saw that he would not relive the past without proding, Kagome spoke, "What happens then?"
Kouga slumped over and rested his head in his hands, allowing his shoulders to shake with despair. "In the final stage, Fiora had her demon blood drained away. It wasn't long before she became that which all wolf demons come from. A wolf. Fiora had become a wolf, and I'd been powerless to stop it." Kagome frowned sadly, "kouga..." Kouga choked back a sob. "What's worse is that after that, she didn't even recognize me... at least I don't think. She ran away one day... I couldn't find her... That was ten years ago."
Kouga cried, he cried for a love lost, a future lost, but mostly... he cried for the fact that his dear Fiora was either out there alone, or dead, sleign by a stray demon. Kagome stepped forward and put a comforting hand on the weeping wolf demon's shoulder, tears pricking her own eyes. "I'm sorry Kouga, but we can find her, I know we can."
Kouga looked up at Kagome. "Thanks, but I think if she wants to be found, she'll come to us... I just miss her." Kagome looked at the moon. "What about Ayame?" Kouga pricked up like a scared cat, turning sharply to Kagome, "GODS NO! She was Fiora's sister, besides that... GODS NO!" Kagome chuckled slightly at Kouga's outburst. "If you say so..."
A month later, the Inu group was fighting off a horde of Saimyosho, when Kouga was stung. The poison coursed through his blood, leaving him paralyzed. (A/N: I know that's not the real affect, just bare with me.) Kagura, watching for an opening to attack from above, took this chance to swoop down on Kouga. Kagome turned to see Kagura descend, and yelled out for Kouga to move, and realized with a sickening horror that Kouga was paralyzed, and this was probably his end.
At least, it would have been, were it not for a wolf jumping in the way of Kagura's blades, succedding in saving the wolf prince, but in the process injuring herself. She fell to the ground, blood pouring from and open wound on her side and many other small cuts all over her body. By this time, the poison had stopped working, and Kouga could move.
The wolf looked up at Kouga, her brilliant, unheard of, purple eyes gleaming with happiness at Kouga. Kouga saw the red tint in her black pelt and the green silk ribbon around her neck, the same ribbon Kouga had tied around Fiora's neck before she had vanished. "FIORA!" Kouga cried, running to the wolf lying on the ground, panting heavily. By this time, the group had taken down all of the saimyosho and Kagura had flewn off, leaving everyone to watch the scene before them. "Kagome, what's Kouga doing?" Inuyasha asked in bewilderment. "Reuniting with a lost love..." Kagome muttered.
Kouga looked at Fiora, tears pooling in his eyes. "Gods Fiora, I've missed you..." Her only response was to lick Kouga on the cheek and whimper. Kouga pet Fiora lovingly, watching as her body began to glow. A second later, he was left with nothing save for her ribbon. Kouga howled with despair, clinging to the ribbon as though it were Fiora herself. Suddenly, a tanned hand found it's way to Kouga's shoulder, and a throaty voice filled the opening. "Don't cry love...". A woman of unspeakavle beauty stood behind Kouga, grinning madly. "Kouga, you must be happy! Don't dwell over me, I'm gone..." Kouga tried to talk, "But-" Fiora put a finger to her lips, "No buts! Kouga... I can't rest knowing you are so sad... Promise me... Promise me you'll move on." Kouga nodded in silent agreement, watching helplessly as Fiora dissapeared, kissing him soundly on the forehead as a seal to his promise... "I'll keep my promise Fiora." Kouga whispered into the green ribbon.
The next week Kouga buried Fiora's ribbon under the cherry tree they were to be wed at, saying a silent prayer for her soul.
