Kagome's Back

The night air was still as if the wind held its breath. The trees had blocked off any light that would have possibly seeped threw in any normal forest, alas this was not a normal forest. The forest was beyond silent, in fact, it was eerily silent. Not even the sound of the single traveler's foot steps were heard, though, like the forest, she was not what you could say was normal.

Her black hair was held high in a seemingly perfect bun held together with chopsticks. She wore a black body suit that had a red dragon that started from her ankles and rested on her collarbone. In her right hand she held a katana, her left hand glowed pink with her miko powers.

She felt it, there were three of them, one in front of her and two to her back. She stopped and let the glow in her hand die down. When it fully faded she placed both hands on the handle of her katana. Knowing what ever was there would fallow, she jumped to the top of the trees for more light. She was right, there stood a kaeru youkai with his claws drawn. She didn't look back she knew the other two were there, she had sensed them.

"What's such a lovely lady doing out here at such a time?" the one in front of her asked

"..."

"What's wrong, wench? Are you so scared you can't talk?" he smiled in such a cocky way that it would make one shudder, but not this women in front of him. He glared at her, usually by now his victim would be begging to keep their life, but her a mere human, not to mention she was a women, didn't even flinch. Even the bravest of men would be scared. He signaled for the two youkai behind her to attack.

Just as they reached her she back flipped landing behind them. With a quick flick over her sword one was cut in half while the other was stabbed in the heart from behind. She yanked her sword out of his back and looked back up at her now shaking attacker.

"You...you... can't be!" the demon said.

The girl smiled. She jumped into the air, landing right in front of the youkai. "Don't underestimate me because I am a human woman." she glared at him, "for now you shall live. Tell your master, ruler, whom ever... tell them the Youkai Sureiyaa is back... tell them Kagome is back."

Kagome sheathed her sword and jumped down from the canopy.

A young girl stretched and yawned. She had finally made it to Sendai. It was a small city. The ringing of storefront bells could be heard from her position above the city. Her black hair blew from a soft wind that had blown pass, and went back to rest on her pink and green kimono(don't know what it's really called). She sighed and trekked on. Just as she reached the gates to the city she heard someone calling for her.

"Sango... Sango! Can't you wait up." A male about her age called out. He had short black hair tied in a little pony tail and wore black and purple houshi robes that matched his eyes.

Sango's eye brow twitched, "Chikuso, Miroku, I told you to keep up if you were going to follow me."

"I know, I know, but why did you leave in such a hurry?" he asked not really caring for an answer.

"Well I...." she trailed off as she felt the oh too familiar had on her rear. A loud slap echoed there the field as Sango stormed off, ignoring the blush forming on her cheeks, to the guards post. 'Damn hentai, can't ever keep his hands to himself.'

"Hey Sango" the guard said waving.

"Hey, Houjo. Can you open the gates?" She asked still with Miroku on her mind.

"Houshi-sama groped you again?" he asked with a smile. He hit his staff on the ground and the gates slowly opened. She nodded with a growing blush. She walked threw the gates as soon as the gap was big enough for her to fit threw. She just wanted to get away from Miroku and Houjo.

She made a dash for Kaede's hut hoping Kagome had come back from her trip to the closest town to the north of Kaede's Village. She pushed the bamboo out of her way as she entered the hut.

"Kaede-sama, I'm back. Is Kagome back yet?" She called assuming she was in the next room. Kikyo stepped out from the room looking cross.

"Do you always have to be so loud?" she asked rhetorically. Sango just rolled her eyes and walked back out of the hut. She put two and two together. Kikyo came out of the room not Kagome, that meant Kagome had yet to return. She sighed and walked to her hut.

She was half way there when she heard a loud slap. "Houshi-sama, stop patronizing the village women." she yelled without turning to look at him, "I swear some times I feel as if I'm your damn keeper."

He smiled, "Well..." Sango covered his mouth.

"Just don't say anything." she walked faster to her hut and went inside.

Miroku sighed and walked back to his own home.

Kagome woke up to the sound of crying. She jumped down from her tree and fallowed the sound to behind the tree she had previously slept in. She looked on the ground and saw a small kitsune - youkai curled up on the ground sobbing. Kagome's eyebrows knitted together in worry. She sat down against the tree with her legs folded underneath her. Softly she stroked the kitsune's fur. He looked up threw tears at her with obvious fear in his eyes. He sniffed her hand without looking away from her.

"What's your name?" Kagome asked softly.

"Sh-Shippou." He said threw tears.

"May I?" she asked extending her hands to pick him up. He nodded and she lifted him off the ground putting him in her lap. "May I ask why you're crying?"

He started to shake. "My... my parents are... are." He started crying harder. Kagome understood and softly petted him.

"Gomen nasai" she said softly. After about an hour he cried himself to sleep. Kagome smiled to herself. For some reason he reminded her of her little brother. He like the rest of her family were killed. That's why she had come to Kaede's Village, the greatest youkai sureiyaa village in Japan. The little town was weird, they were youkai sureiyaa, yet youkai were as welcomed as humans, as long as they had no desire to harm the villagers. There were even youkai and hanyou sureiyaa. Kagome let out a soft sigh 'just a little further and I'm home.' Moving as little as possible, she managed to stand up with the kitsune in her arms and walked off towards her village.

During the hour they traveled Shippou had awaken, but Kagome insisted on carrying him. It was obvious the kitsune was still tired and had a lot on his mind. After a while of silence he looked up at Kagome, "Kagome?"

"Yes."

"Can I stay with you? I mean because I don't have any where else to go or any one to go to and I..." he trailed off.

"Of course Shippou." she said with a kind smile.

"Really," he said with a bright smile "I can?" she nodded. His face brightened and he snuggled closer to Kagome. She gave him a light squeeze.

"Where are we going?" he asked with his eyes closed.

"To my home." her soft voice was putting him to sleep.

"Where's that?"

"At the end of this forest."

"Oh... are the people nice there?"

"Yes, they're very nice."

"Will they except me?"

"Yes, Shippou. How could they not?"

He smiled, "You're really nice. I like you." she softly pet his head again.

She stopped and looked around. She set him down, "Stay close to me." she said pulling out her bow and an arrow. "Come out, I know you're there." Two demons stepped out from behind a tree.

"Give us the brat." the smallest one said extending his hand. She shot the arrow, intentionally missing. The small one glared at her, "Wench, you just want to die, don't you?"

All of a sudden she felt arms wrapped around her from behind, enabling her to use her arms. "Ha, miko, not so strong, are we?" She started to glow. The big guy screamed in pain and clasped to the ground dead.

"Miten (I don't know if that was the big one nor if I spelt it right)! Bitch you killed him. SHIN-E" the small one yelled. His hand lifted his hand. Thunder shot from his hand into the sky and came back down barely missing Kagome. She screamed out in pain, even though it didn't hit her she still got electrocuted. She clasped on the ground shaking. She looked towards her attacker and, to her horror, his hand was once again above his head ready to attack her. Just then a hanyou punched him in the face knocking him into a tree. The youkai stood up and looked at the hanyou with pure enmity. "Hanyou, you'll pay for that."
