Invader Zim

Strange Cravings, Stranger Feelings!

Zim was more confused then ever before and she was questioning her own actions as well. What was it that was going on with the Dib-human anyway? And why did the earth larva believe that keeping her a secret now was important when all the Dib-monster ever wanted was to expose her to other humans? Did something change his mind? Zim wondered.

“It smells so horrible, but it makes me hungrier,” Zim replied, fearful of the glass jar.

“Try one then,” Dib said as he prepared the blueberries and pancake mix. He reached past Zim to the milk and grabbed it. “How does this smell to you?” Dib uncapped the milk and presented it for Zim to inspect. Zim was surprised at the smell, it was not the same as when he had seen it at the cafeteria it was like it was fresh and delightful. Zim smiled recognizing what it smelled like.

“It smells like smeet juice,” Zim said without thinking. He then glared at the human. “I mean, it is ok, smelling.” Zim then plucked free a pickle and bit into it slowly. He was pleased with the sweet yet slightly sour taste and took another bite then paused. “Interestingly tasty, yet horrible smell, Hmm.” She finished the pickle before nabbing another and closing the jar.

“What exactly is smeet juice?” Dib asked hoping he could get more information out of the Irken.

“NOTHING!” Zim yelled, defensively. It was like a reflex for the Irken to defend her people’s secrets from enemy ears, though lately she was seeing Dib as less of an enemy and more of a life-mate. She cringed at the path her thoughts had traveled while she was distracted by her hunger. She caught Dib grinning at her and blushed, it seemed he finished mixing and started cooking, the smell wafted over to Zim making her stomach growl.

“These will be ready soon,” Dib told her with a smile. Zim no understood the meaning of SiR-real according to the teachers in high school it meant it was bizarre or strange. Not that She minded she liked this new Dib attitude at least he wasn’t going to cut her open, she shivered at that thought. She didn’t want to be some science experiment for the Dib-hyuman. Zim remembered the feeling of his hands roaming her body and she could feel her antennae start to curl up from the feelings it evoked.

“Your antennae have grown since you have been here,” Dib said as he noticed her trying to straighten them back out.

“Tell me something I don’t know,” Zim replied, disdainfully.

“Can you at least tell me something about what is happening to you?” Dib asked.

“I...” Zim pouted before finally giving in. “I think I may be, transforming into a Queen.” Dib stopped focusing on the food.

“That’s possible?” Dib asked.

“I don’t know the tallest never told us one of us could become the next Queen,” Zim replied. Zim noticed the odor change into something that didn’t smell as nice. “I think it’s burning...” Dib looked back to the food and panicked, it was burning. He quickly flipped it and sighed, yep he burnt this one all on one side, he decided that would be one of his flapjacks.

“Queen huh,” Dib whispered, he regretted his analysis immediately. They weren’t like frogs they were alien ants, no wonder they wanted to conquer the universe. And like ants that must mean they are like a super species, an invasive species for sure and he didn’t like the sound of it. And he MATED with her, Dib wanted to smack himself, he broke his code, never help the invader and he just handed them the immunity to his home planet’s water. No wonder she was immune to the water in his body she adapted to him and seduced him. He could have ended their race, a pang of guilt and pain hit him in the chest. Did he really want to end their race? Maybe he did at one point but through all the years did he perhaps actually fall for the Irken?

“I just don’t get why the Almighty Tallest would not tell us this,” Zim said.

“Maybe they didn’t expect to lose the previous one so soon?” Dib answered over his shoulder as he continued to cook. Zim sneaked up behind Dib and poked the pancakes, they were still hot so she left them alone to cuddle to her life-mate. Dib looked back in surprise but didn’t remark on Zim’s strange behavior. The attention made him feel warm and strong in a way. It also showed him how much taller Zim had grown, if the irken continues to grow at this rate she will be taller than him in a year. He wondered how tall Irken Queens were. Thinking back to the ants species he had studied he remembered just how large those had been. Zim’s antennae were past her shoulders but she didn’t seem to notice them as Dib did. He wondered when they had started to grow, was it after Zim had forced her own growth or when she began to become a queen?

Maybe he wouldn’t know but he had noticed them curling slightly and only curling more when the Irken showed signs of excitement or attraction. He would have to write that down. The last pancake was almost finished, he flipped it before it could burn, then he threw his free arm around the Irken pulling her to his side so she could watch him finish cooking. He grinned when her antennae curled and the Irken tried to straighten them again. When did they become so close, was his reaction due to some chemical change from their bonding? Dib decided he didn’t truly care as long as the alien wasn’t trying to escape.

Dib untangled himself once the last pancake was placed on the stack and once the stove was turned off. He divided up the pancakes four to a plate and placed the syrup on the table after he had covered his. He cut into it and took a bite, before watching Zim as she poked at the food. Her stomach growled so she took an experimental bite, he watched as her antennae perked up and her eyes closed. She was smiling, he could tell, but when she saw him looking she forced a frown.

“It is acceptable,” she replied. In truth the pancakes tasted like mana from beyond. She opened the syrup and poured a tiny drop onto her finger to try it, and found it to be like a sweet treat from the snack planet that her Tallest visited often. She then combined the two before trying them together, she couldn’t even describe the lovely flavors they seemed to be. She hummed in appreciation, but tried to hide her happiness when she heard Dib chuckle at her. He thinks he’s so smart, trying to win my favor with such tasty delicacies, Zim thought. I will show him, somehow, he will kneel before me and beg for Zim’s affections! She didn’t stop eating however, she continued to enjoy the food until there was nothing left on the plate. She looked up to see the Dib-monkey smiling at her, he then slid the remainder of pancakes on his plate towards her. She couldn’t contain her glee as she took the plate and began to devour the remainder of his breakfast as well.

With breakfast done, she sighed feeling quite full now. One Glance at Dib had her sobering as she noticed him writing she got up and crept closer trying to read it. Her eyes widened as she noticed he was writing about her height and antennae the second of which she twirled around her finger noting it had curled up again. She was annoyed the Dib-hyuman was writing so much about her, what if some of his scientist buddies so them? Zim would be put in a tube of some vile liquid to be laughed at and studied. Dib turned then and noticed Zim’s angry expression. The Irken hide it but not quickly enough as Dib appeared concerned.

“You’ll sleep in my lab tonight,” Dib said.

“I have to still sleep in there?” Zim asked, pouting and hoping her pout was enough to get her out of such an uncomfortable room.

“It’s the safest room in the house, no one but me has access to it,” Dib replied. She was afraid he would say that. She couldn’t very well escape to her lab while Dib was keeping her locked up like some sort of science experiment.

“You know what would be safer?” Zim asked. “My lab would be safer!” She yelled that last part before Dib could even reply. Dib looked slightly hurt by her remark but then anger replaced that. He didn’t touch her but she backed away anyway, not sure what the unpredictable Dib would do. Zim backed all the way into the lab door and still he approached. He placed his hand on a panel beside the door and she stumbled into the lab while somehow staying upright.

“For once Zim, just trust me,” he whispered softly his expression changing to doubt before he let the door close. Zim rushed at the door but it was closed by the time she placed her hands on it.

“Dib!!” Zim yelled angrily. Again the Dib-monkey fooled her, she half wondered if he had a little invader in him at times like these. She turned around defeated and placed her back against the door sliding down to floor as she did. Instead of being sad like she wanted she turned her sadness to anger. She would teach the Dib not to toy with her. She stared at the lovely floral patterned dress that Dib had bought her, it was pretty and made her forget how angery she was but she still planned to train her life-mate she couldn’t have him questioning her decisions, she is queen after all and he would be made to obey.

Dib watched through the one way glass as Zim ran to the door, anger in her expression. It was mean to trick her but he couldn’t just leave not when his sister was outside, maybe he would take Zim to her lab, but he had to stay close to her. She was his after all and he wasn’t going to let her run off and get herself caught by some other male. He sighed as he heard the doorbell, he only knew she was here because she had texted him at breakfast it was the main reason he gave Zim the rest of his breakfast so he could respond without Zim noticing.

“Of all the times to show up Gaz,” Dib complained. He walked out to the front door to open it with a smile he didn’t feel. He and Gaz didn’t get along on many factors and if she was here it meant she suspected foul play. She almost wouldn’t wrong either, especially since he still had Zim in his lab.

“Alright were is he?” Gaz said barging in. Gaz and Zim had become best friends after they had graduated.

“Where is who?” Dib asked, playing dumb.

“Don’t play dumb with me you know exactly who I’m looking for,” Gaz growled. “What did you do with Zim?”

“I already told dad that Zim called in sick, so I don’t know where she is,” Dib clapped a hand over his mouth, he called Zim a female in front of Gaz now she would know something was fishy. Gaz gave him her signature “look” and he nearly wilted, and he caved.

“She’s in the lab,” Dib said. Gaz stormed towards the Lab. “Wait, Gaz she doesn’t want to be bothered.” Gaz didn’t listen.

Zim sat there totally lost in thought when she heard a familiar voice. “Zim?” it was Gaz, Zim paniced and frantically ran around the lab before she located her contacts in one of the drawers. “ZIM are you in there? Dib open this door right now!” She couldn’t find the wis instead she took one of the spare skirts and made a headdress out of it to hide her antennae from view. The door opened and Zim turned toward with a haughty expression. “Zim there you are let’s get you out of here,” Gaz said gently. Zim quickly followed Gaz out of the lab.

“Wait Gaz you don’t understand,” Dib had something behind his back that Zim noticed him typing on.

“Listen Dib you can’t just keep Zim here against.. um.. Her?” Gaz questioned Zim.

“Yes, I’ve always been a female,” Zim replied, matter-of-factually. Gaz turned back to Dib with conviction.

“You can’t keep Zim here against her will,” Gaz said, turning away and walking towards the front door. “Come Zim we’re going shopping somewhere this loser won’t find us!” Zim looked to Dib questioningly, but he motioned that she could go. Even the Mighty Dib-monster had his weakness, and that was his bratty sister. Granted she was all grown up now but she was still a brat to him. Once they were out of the door Gaz seemed to relax and even asked if Zim was okay.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine,” Zim replied.

“Your stupid dog told me my loser brother had visited, so I knew that he had to have locked you up somewhere,” Gaz said. “He is seriously a psychopath.” Zim smiled, thinking to herself that he was her psychopath before wiping the smile off her face.

“Yes, he is,” Zim replied.

“And what kind of a lame excuse is ‘he called in sick’, I mean seriously my brother doesn’t even work in Human Service department and he’s not your supervisor,” She scoffed. “Men are even more stupid than boys.”

“Agreed,” Zim replied, amiably. This friendly conversation sometimes made her wish she had been born human, despite living on such a filthy planet they did have one thing Irkens didn’t, friends. People who looked out for you, no matter how small or different you were, no matter how strange your customs they just understood. Zim thought back to his first friend, the one who became obsessed with him, so much so she had to trick the human to get him to leave. She wondered if he was still chasing that squirrel, or mourning it’s death.

Did squirrels die? They have to right? Of course, she never really had an interest in the other inhabitants of this filthy planet. She even stopped worrying about germs after a while, she seemed to be completely immune to them after all. Then there was Gaz her casual friend for the last five years, completely unobtrusive and only asking to hang out occasionally a welcome reprieve from Zim’s boredom for sure. She entered Gaz’s car fully expecting that Dib would somehow follow them. She was however pleasantly surprised when they made it to the shopping mall without incident.

“What do you wish to shop for?” Zim asked.

“Some new outfits,” Gaz replied with a light-hearted smile. “You can’t just wear the same old same old after all. You can wear so much more prettier outfits then the drab ones in your closet. Trust me I know the perfect place.” Gaz said leading the way as she typed on her phone. Zim followed feeling bubbly, she definitely wanted to find prettier outfits, they sounded fantastic.

They went through nearly every store in the mall and had tried on dozens of outfits, Zim was slightly tired from the whole day but it was a good tired. Zim stopped infront of a shop that once disgusted her. They sold mostly smoothies but they also have other kinds of sweet things like cupcakes and cookies. Zim suddenly wanted one of those milkshake things. They smelled exactly like blended smeet juice recipes she had tried on foodtopia.

“I’ll buy,” Gaz said. She ordered her usual then looked at Zim to see if she would choose one.

“I want the Vanilla, with..” she paused before suddenly asking. “Do you have.. the pickles?” She remembered the word from the jar she had ate those sweet yet sour delicacies.

“We do,” the man replied, “Do you want it with pickles.” He winked as he said it as though he knew something Zim didn’t.

“Yes, with pickles,” Zim replied, giving him a confused stare.

“Coming right up,” he said. Gaz paid for their drinks and they sat at one of the tables to drink them. Zim was halfway through her shake when she spotted Dib down the hall near the restrooms. He made no attempt to hide, it was as if he wanted her to see him. Zim excused her self and headed toward him, he quickly turned and walked down the small hallway toward the bathrooms. Zim stalked him ready to tell him off but as she rounded the corner he lifted up a bag toward her she stopped taking the bag from him.

“I ruined your other wig on accident, when I was angry so,” Dib sputtered off at that last bit. Zim was touched, he actually thought of her instead of just following to watch her as always. “Listen, I really want you to come back to my place.”

“You mean your lab,” Zim said still angry about that.

“No, listen I know you don’t want to, so at least let me come over to yours,” Dib pleaded.

“I’m not letting you into my lab Dib,” Zim huffed.

“I don’t, that’s fine, I just..” Dib ran a hand through his hair in frustration. “I just want to protect you.” Zim fidgeted with the bag and opened it to look at the wavy hair inside the bag, it was so shiny. Dib pulled some of Zim’s personal belongings such as her phone and wallet and handed them to her. “Listen just think about,” Dib pleaded. Zim gave in and nodded, Dib gave her his phone number so she could call him when she made her decision.

“Don’t expect me to just call you though,” Zim said haughtily. She wanted him to know she was still mad at how he treated her even if he did change soon after. Or at least she thought he had, she was still an experimental alien in his eyes after all. Dib looked hurt but he didn’t try to stop her as she walked away and into the female’s restroom. Once inside she pulled out wig and smiled, it was beautiful and as she put it on she realized it fit perfectly and naturally hid her antennae, plus it was comfortable. She tossed the bag and took her wallet, phone and the dress she had worn on her head out with her. Can’t have Gaz seeing evidence that her dumb brother had shown his face at the mall, Zim smiled happily as she made her way back to the table.

“Your hair is beautiful, why did you have it covered earlier?” she asked.

“Oh, I didn’t think it looked so great this morning,” Zim lied, placing her phone, wallet and skirt into one of her bags. They continued to shop once they finished their drinks carting around all of their goodies until Gaz decided shopping day was officially finished and the two headed back to Gaz’s car. Gaz drove her home and they parted ways at her apartment. Zim sighed locking her door and turning in the lights as it was getting dark, Gaz had insisted they get her many bras but Zim just didn’t have the chest humps that human-worms had. She sighed, maybe she could have the computer synthesize some for her. “Computer synthesize some chest humps for me,” Zim said with disgust.

“What size?” the computer retorted. Zim frowned at the computer before presenting a bra to it.

“The kind that fits this contraption!” Zim said.

“Very well,” it replied. This computer was smarter than the computer at his home but there were still some kinks to work out, such as it’s unwarranted attitude. The computer took the item and analyzed it before referencing the internet. Zim took the remainder of the cloths to the bedroom and began to remove the drab clothing and replaced it with the lovely outfits Gaz had purchased for her and some of the ones she had purchased herself after having her wallet returned. She pulled out her phone and stared at it. Did she really want to call Dib? Should she call him?
