Dawn and Darkness On Destiny Island

-Chapter Eight-

Riku was sitting on the paopu tree trunk when
King Mickey joined him. "I heard what happened."
he said. "Are you all right?"

"I was until my father disowned me," Riku replied.

The King frowned. "Aw, don't feel bad," he said,
"your dad will come around."

"I hope so," Riku sighed.

"You did WHAT?!" Riku's mother exclaimed.

"I told him that if he didn't want to live by my rules
then he had no business in this house," Riku's father
told her. "And my first rule is that he is to stay away
from those people he hangs around with."

"Those people are his friends," Riku's mother argued.

"Do you know what he told me?" Riku's father asked.
"Let me tell you. Our son was subjected to a brutal
psychic assault because of their meddling."

"Our son was hurt and you turned him out on the
street?!" Riku's mother glared at her husband. "Get
out there and find him!"

"Do you need anything?" Axel asked Riku later that
evening as they stood in the loft apartment over the
Heart and Sole.

"No," Riku shook his head. "Thank you for letting me
stay here."

Axel nodded. "I'll let you get some sleep," he said as
he left the apartment.

Riku rested on the sofa and tried very hard not to cry.

I can't find him anywhere," Riku's father told his wife
as he walked in out of the rain.

"Try again," she replied. "I don't want Riku out in the rain."

"Come with me," Riku's father suggested. "We might have
better luck if we look together."

Riku's mother threw on her raincoat and headed out to look
for her son.

"Maybe we should try Heart and Sole?" she suggested after
they'd been searching for some time. "Riku eats there all the
time. Maybe that Axel fellow knows where he is."

They made their way to Heart and Sole, drying off as they went
inside.

"We're closing," the waiter told them.

"We just want to see Axel," Riku's mother told him. "Our son is
missing and we thought he might know..."

Axel emerged from the back room. "I need you to take the afternoon
shift tomorrow," he told the waiter.

"Mr. Axel?" Riku's mother asked.

"Just Axel," Axel corrected her. "What can I do for you?"

"I'm looking for my son Riku," she told him.

"He's upstairs in the loft apartment," Axel told her. "He's already paid
rent for this month."

"Hold on," Riku called to whoever was knocking at the door. He
summoned his Keyblade and opened the door. "Mom? Dad?"

"Riku," his father said, "I'm sorry."

Riku nodded.

His mother noticed the Keyblade. It was the first time his parents
had ever seen it. "What's that?"

"My Keyblade," Riku told them. "The Way To Dawn."

"And what if someone takes it and tries to use it against you?"
Riku's father wanted to know.

Riku set the Way To Dawn down and backed away. "Try it."

Riku's father picked up the Keyblade. But before he could so
much as move it, it vanished from his hand and reappeared in
Riku's grasp.

"I'm the only one who can wield it," Riku explained. "Unfortunately,
Xehanort overpowered me before I could summon it. Otherwise, I
would have beaten him."

His father nodded. "I guess I underestimated you."

"A lot of people have," Riku admitted.

"Have you and Namine set a date for the wedding yet?" his mother
asked.

"Not yet," Riku admitted. "We've been too busy with everything else.
But it'll be soon."
