Kingdom Hearts Fan Fiction ❯ Happiness Has A Price ❯ Prologue

[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]

Thank you for picking my fanfiction to read. I am a little nerves about trying to write again. This story had not had a beta yet and if someone would like to pm me please, I would love to have someone to do that. So review would help me to know if I'm just writing this for myself or not. Oh and character OC but I think that comes with it being AU…. enjoy and tell me what you think.

I don't own any of the characters for Kingdom Hearts or Kingdom Hearts II.

The morning air was humid and thick with the scent of the ocean. The island is small, but beautiful. Breathe taking in Sora's mind. The sun light was making its way down from the tops of the trees and the birds were singing.

No matter how beautiful a day is Sora was not happy about being wake this early. Not after the wonder, though short summer. Staying up until the sun was about to peek over the ends of the Earth only to waking as the sun slow sunk below the waves.

Heaving a deep sigh Sora adjusted the strap of his book bag across his shoulder then stepped off his porch and headed up to the college. It was his first year of going there full time. He would have been worried about going to college, but many of his friends would be there.

In not time Sora arrived at the Student Center and it was full of people. It was odd for an ungodly hour, to have so many people sitting around. At “The Table” had a few people he knew though most of them he only knew in passing.

Upon seeing his friend, Marluxia motioned Sora to sit next to him. He is nice guy though he might look cranky. He had long pink and curly hair, blue eyes, he stood at 5'8'', 23 years old, and he loves comics. He's been dating Sora's neighbor Larxene, who is a childhood friend. Sora had met him a year ago while up visiting the college to see if he wanted to attend.

Larxene is a sweet girl too, but she had her own problems, it was really easy to get on her black list. It doesn't mean Sora do not love her as a friend. He had known Larxene for years. He couldn't recall her before his fifth birthday party. She is short about 5'3'', 20 years old, light skin, curvy yet small, short blond hair, and sea green eyes. Normally Marluxia and Larxene would be all over each other, but it was just too early for them today.

Sora thought he was nothing to speak of. He was oddly popular in high school, though he had tried to be a loner. He supposed his cheery nature just attracted others to him at least that's what others had told him. Though he never had problems making friends or keeping them, it's always nice to have friends he felt. He also thought there was nothing special about his appearance. He is a short man standing at 5'3'', 18 years old, brown hair, and deep blue eyes.

`I have Math first today…Why did I pick a Math class that was so early in the morning and every day! GAH!! Well at least it's only revision for me.'

He had taken the same Math class a year before, but that was his junior year of high school. He opted not to take Math his senor year in favor of getting out of school early.

`It was a bad idea to not take the next Math class while I was still in high school. I wouldn't have to take this class…”

While off in his thoughts the happy couple are just getting wrapped up into one another. Larxene jumped on Marluxia lap and started kissing him. Look over at them; he had to laugh a little to himself. `Guess I was wrong, it was not too early.' Looking around the cafeteria he spotted another childhood friend, Kairi. She was a feisty red head with bright blue eyes: she stood at 5'2'', shoulder length brown hair, and she was 20 years old.

Sora knew that Kairi and Larxene didn't get along so there was not a chance she was going to come over and talk with him. He had to go to her. Leaving his book bag at the table and walked over to her. Being only a yard away from her, “Hey Kairi! Have you been to your first class yet?” he asked.

She turned to him slightly to see who was talking to her though she didn't face her body completely towards him. Her arms where full with a few music books and binders.

“No not yet, what about you? When is your first class?” She smiled at him.

“I have Math, but after that I kinda forgot…” he said with a nerves laugh.

She laughed with him, “Well you better check, you don't want to miss any classes you have today! I have my first class in a few minutes so I gotta run. See ya later.” With that she took off in the direction of the theater. Sighing and walking back to the table he let his thoughts take over.

Kairi's mood had improved after she had moved her boyfriend to the island; she had met him online and got to know him over a year before he came. Sora remembered right before Kairi had met Xigbar, that she had said online dating was “stupid”. He was happy that everything in the end had worked out for her. Her family was not happy with any of it at first, but Xigbar was starting to grow on them and he was becoming part of the family. He was really tall, 21 years old, slender, tan skin, sometimes he wore an eye patch (though only for show), dark hair with some gray that he pulled back, and dark eyes. He is a really sweet guy, a little addicted to games, but a really great guy over all.

Sora walked back to the table and sat down. He figured that he would look at his schedule while he was in class. Looking up at the clock and seeing Sora had about ten minutes.

`Might as well enjoy my next five minutes of freedom. I wonder when I'm going to see Kairi again. Most likely later today,' Kairi was the one person Sora sent the most of his time with.

Looking up Sora found that Larxene and Marluxia were no longer lip locked. He noticed that Marluxia talking to some guy he didn't know. This guy had shoulder length silver hair, stood about 6'3'', fit, and had a pleasant face. He seemed nice enough. A gentle smile graced the guys face.

`May be when I have more time I'll get to introduce myself to him or maybe Marluxia can introduce us.' A small smile appeared on his face as well. That was when that guy glanced at Sora and he was stunned by the emerald green eyes that stared into his. It was only for a moment.

`Wow…' his mind when blank just seeing those eyes they where imprinted in his minds eye. Finally snapping out of his stupor he looked up at the clock and realized that he should have been off on his way to class.

Hurried he shot out of his seat and grabbed his book bag and swung it over his shoulder; he ran out the door.

He was thankful that his class was only the next building over though he still feared being late. It was never a good idea to be late to class, at least not the first day. He wanted the teacher to be on good terms with him. That way later in the semester he could ask for some extension on some home work or a project. He normally got it if he was on good terms with them…

Finding the right door he stepped in and found the class to be nearly full. A few looked at him, but no one of real interest. He took a seat right next to the window. Taking out his math book and shoving his bag under his desk he heard the person in front of him clear their throat. Looking up he say a girl around his age staring at him in annoyance she practically shoved a few papers on to his desk then turned away from him. Huffing he looked down at the papers and realized that they were the syllabus for the class.

Looking back at the clock he realized that he had a few minutes before class would start so he took the luxury of staring longingly out the window. The sky was without a cloud and the sun was beaming down on anything it could touch. Days like this he longed to go to the beach.

`Another beautiful day wasted,' he sighed to himself.

“Ok Class, I hope everyone is here now,” An older lady that sat at the head of the classroom. She was as round like a beach ball and to top it off she was dressed like. Sora didn't know how he had missed that. She had short gray hair and dark brown eyes. She carried on, “Now for attendance; raise your hand when your names are called so I can connect a name with a face.” She smiled, “If I don't say your name correctly please feel free to correct me, I rather get it right the first time though....”

As she listed off names Sora turned back to the window and to his daydreaming of the beach. He really didn't care who was who in this class. He just wanted to pass with a good grade and he didn't need to know anyone to do that.

“Sora… Sora…”

At the sound of his name being called he came back to reality.

“Oh! Here.” He offered her a large sweet smile which she returned.

After she had made it through the list of what he guessed to be twenty to twenty-five students including himself. She started to going over her syllabus. He didn't pay her any after she started talking about her policies and what not. Sora knew the basics it was always the same stuff. He skipped ahead to what was required to pass the class.

Homework was to be expected every night though that wasn't asking too much of a work load there. There would be a quiz after each chapter. There was a math paper and there was to be a final on the last week of class. Nothing unreasonable.

`Not looking forward to that paper,” he did not like anything to do with writing unless it was poetry or lyrics.

After what Sora guessed to be ten minutes it had taken the teach finished going over her syllabus with the class she dismissed them only after telling them what their homework assignment was for the evening.

Quickly Sora packed his book back into his bag he pulled from under the desk. He slung his bag over his shoulder and hurried out the door before anyone else. He headed for the Student Center to see if anyone. He found Marluxia to be sitting by himself reading some comic or other. Marluxia was so wrapped up in his book that he might not even have noticed if someone would come up behind him. That was just what Sora did. Creeping up behind him and he was ready to strike. A wicked grin on his face his fingers attacked.

A shrill almost feminine scream broke over the loud noises over the Student Center, though many ignored what was going on. Marluxia had dropped his book on the table and was breathing hard for a moment before he turned his sees on him.

Sora had fallen to the floor in a fit of laughter. He didn't care is Marluxia beat him up it was worth it to see how he reacted. Gleeful tears started to form in his eyes as Marluxia's irritated glaze turned to him.

“You are a pain you know that Sora…”

“Yeah but you know you love me!!!” Sora batted his eyes at him.

With a sigh Marluxia gave up and had a good laugh at what had happened. A few moments later Sora spoke, “So do you know where the DLC building is?”

“Yeah it's that one that past the library out there by itself.” Marluxia offered.

“Thanks that's where my next class is. I really don't want to go.” Sora all but whined the last bit.

Marluxia chuckled at him, “And why is that?”

“English…”

Marluxia full out laughed at him. “Have fun!”

With a sigh Sora went on his way to English though he would have rather skipped he knew that Marluxia would beat him into the ground.

When he arrived at the English classroom it was pretty much the same thing that he had gone through in his first class that day. Though this class seemed like it was going to be by far the most demanding of all his classes, to top it off Math then having English back to back. He knew this was going to be a long semester.
