Toast still stuffed inside of his small mouth, Sora waved to Riku and Kairi from the shore. Noticing him, Riku began to wade through the knee-deep water, Kairi not far behind. A surprised squeak came from Sora as Riku suddenly picked him up and took a small bite of his toast.

"Mm...Mickey made it I presume? Seeing how it isn't burnt..." Riku stated, finishing the piece up.

Shooting his captor a hurt look, Sora sniffed. "Nothing's wrong with my cooking."

Riku laughed at the look Sora gave him before letting him down gently. Turning around, he nearly jumped in shock when he saw Kairi's face grinning like there was no tomorrow.

"What?" Riku asked, a faint blush crossing his face as he looked away. Though they've been together for a while, Riku still wasn't too comfortable with onlookers while he and Sora were 'mingling with eachother'.

"You two still haven't told anyone how you ended up together," Kairi answered, her grin not letting up.

"Aah. Well," Riku smirked down at the smaller boy beside him, watching as Sora turned a bright red and suddenly found the ground to be the most interesting thing he'd ever seen.

"No one needs to know," he muttered, avoiding everyone's looks.

"Hehe, that's alright," Kairi replied, not at all surprised that Sora wouldn't let Riku tell her. However, it did make her more curious. They had a moment of silence before Kairi gasped, remembering her promise to Selphie.

"Sorry guys, I forgot that I needed to go shopping with Selphie today. I hope she's not angry...See you both later!" Kairi apologized before waving at Riku and Sora and dashing off towards her house.

Once out of sight, she smiled sadly and slowed her pace to a walk instead of a mad dash. A bit behind her, the red head appeared again.

"Both of us have someone we love but cannot get," he murmured so that the girl could not hear,"the difference between us is that I won't just stand back and watch." Narrowing his eyes in the general direction of the two keyblade wielders, he continued on his way down to the beach.

Laughter could be heard from the shore as the pair splashed, tackled, and poked lightly at eachother's sides. Eventually getting tired out, they both went back to the dry sand where the water could not reach. There, they sank down, Riku holding Sora gently. As they both caught their breath, the two watched as the sun began to set, making the clouds turn an array of beautiful pastels.

"Wow, I didn't even notice that we stayed here that long," the brunette said to the boy holding him.

"Mm, time does fly," Riku replied.

Even though they had already caught their breath they still stayed in their spot, admiring the sky and the clouds. Content with just being able to hold eachother, neither requested anything more of their partner. The ocean had slowly calmed down to a slow rock, lulling all that was nearby.

"Riku," Sora called in a sleepy tone.

"Hm?"

"How long do you think we can stay like this?"

Surprised at the question, Riku opened his icy optics and looked down at the boy whose head rested on his chest. He hadn't really thought about it. Rather, he didn't want to.

"I...I'm not sure," he replied honestly,"I haven't given it much thought."

At the depressed look that Sora wore, Riku ruffled his spiky hair lightly.

"Cheer up. No matter what happens, I won't lose you again. Ever," Riku promised as he looked deeply into Sora's amazingly blue eyes, letting him know that Riku really meant it. This cheered him up a bit, and Sora nuzzled his face into Riku's neck. This earned him a smile as Riku placed a hand on the back of Sora's head, toying with his soft hair. They stayed like that for a while, breathing in the other's scent until a call for Riku came down from a near by house, making them seperate.

"Ah, damn. I wonder what they want now," he sighed, running a hand through his locks. "I'll be right back."

With a nod and a final kiss, Riku ran off back to the house he shared with Tidus and Wakka. Sora watched him leave, sitting back down on the shoreline once he was inside his house. Remembering the marble given to him a long time ago, Sora took it out. On instinct, he held it between his fingers and held it up to what was left of the sun, watching as light filtered through it.

"The link...," he trailed off, frowning.

"Between you, and the person I want," a voice deeper than his finished, making Sora jump and turn around, his keyblade already in hand.

"What? You can't hurt me any more than you already have," Axel said in a taunting way.

"You want to bet?" Sora retorted, gripping the keyblade tighter.

"Sure," Axel replied laughing,"I doubt you'd get far."

"Cocky little..." Sora cursed as he tried to attack Axel. The blade should've deeply wounded the man but...He stood unscratched. "Why?"

"As I said," Axel repeated,"you can't hurt me any more than you already have. Got it memorized?"

Gritting his teeth and glaring at the man, Sora began to get frightened when his keyblade disappeared on its own. "What's happening?" he demanded to know.

"You can't hurt me because Roxas won't allow it," came the unexpected answer.

"Roxas...," Sora felt a throb from his heart in response, causing him to clutch a hand over it,"but nobodies don't have hearts."

"Aw, I'm hurt," Axel teased,"regular nobodies don't. But Roxas isn't just any nobody...He's your nobody."

Before Sora could answer, an angry shout echoed down to them.

"Axel! Get away from him!" Both Axel and Sora turned to find Riku running down towards them as fast as he could.

"Shit," the former organization member cursed,"I took too long."

Grabbing Sora's arm quickly and drawing him close, Axel bent down and pressed a kiss against Sora's lips before he could react, earning a loud gasp from the boy and a furious yell from Riku.

"Roxas...Please come back to me," Axel whispered into Sora's ear before disappearing once more.

"Sora! Are you okay?" Riku asked once he reached the shoreline. He quickly scanned up and down the boy's body for any sign of injuries. Sora could only manage a nod as Riku scowled. "That bastard."

A tear slipped down Sora's cheek. Confused, he wiped it away quickly before Riku could see it. Roxas was crying within him, longing to chase after the one he thought he had lost so long ago. Once again Sora was gathered into a hug that was so tight, he thought his air would be cut off soon.

"I don't know what I'd do if he took you," Riku whispered, the words slightly wavering.

"As long as I'm here and Roxas is still within me, I know he will keep trying," Sora replied, resisting the urge to hug the larger frame back,"Being here, I'm endangering you too."

Sora was so ready to get kicked out, to be alone once more without any love. But Riku always did the unexpected.

"Then so be it," came the answer that melted Sora's heart. He returned the hug without any hesitation as the sun finally disappeared under the rim of the ocean, the sky going dark. Yet in that ocean of darkness, two small but very bright stars glimmered.

Previews for the next chapter~! :

Sora fell to his knees, his chest suddenly paining him a lot. Riku put a hand on Sora's shoulder, worried for him. He bent down and brushed the brunette's hair out of his face. Using his other hand to press against Sora's forehead, Riku was very concerned at how hot it felt and how much he was sweating.

"My chest..." was all that Sora was able to choke out before his knees gave way, making him collapse onto the sand.

"Sora!" Riku yelled, panic clouding his mind. Quickly he picked Sora up, letting the limp body rest in his arms. He began to make a dash for the town, muttering curses to himself about how the sand seemed to slow him down a lot.

"Sora...hold on," Riku pleaded with the unconscious body he carried.
