ENCHANTMENT

Part two: History of the Gemstone

"Wait a minute, let me get this straight!" Merrill couldn't stop the fits of laughter as she spoke. Somehow she managed to hold it in long enough to get out her next sentence. "You're telling me that Louie here accidentally, or rather stupidly, put himself under the influence of a lust charm, and not only is he as horny as a randy foul-mouthed sailor but now we need to venture out on a cure?"

The small thief was nearly rolling on the floor with laughter, much to Louie's annoyance. Melissa looked as though she were about to be sick and Genie simply shook her head in disbelief. "Idiot, how did you managed to do something like that?"

"Like Ila said, it was an accident," Louie grumbled irritably. As much as the three had mocked him in the past, he was certain he wasn't going to live down this particular mess anytime soon. He sighed and took a long chug of his ale before setting the mug down on the wooden table with rattle. "It could have happened to anyone."

"Right, and turning into a frog, a woman, and a squid-man is liable to happen to any person given the circumstances," Merrill couldn't resist prodding as she crawled back into her seat beside Melissa and Genie. The two exchanges glances but said nothing, Melissa giving off a heavy sigh.

"Hey! That wasn't my fault either!" Louie retorted, loud enough to draw attention from the other guests in the tavern. Sitting next to him and across from the three women, Ila put a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

"I am partially to blame for this as well," she admitted with a rueful smile. "Please don't be too harsh on him."

Nonchalantly, Merrill shrugged and put her mug to her lips, taking a drink of her liquor while praising herself for ordering a round of spirits for the rest of them earlier on. She was certain Melissa would need it to cope with the recent news of her valiant champion. Louie on the other hand gave Ila a warm smile and placed a hand on top of hers, squeezing it lightly in a gesture of thanks. The priestess and the thief remained oblivious to the exchange, however, the brief and tender display did not escape Genie's attentive perception.

"You two are fucking each other," she said matter-of-factly.

Merrill spat out her liquor in a choking fit. Melissa had to pat her back several times and turned a shade of red, her gaze moving between Genie and the two magicians in front of her.

"What? Is this true?"

Ila blushed and folded her hands in her lap, staring at them in silence. Louie scratched his hair at a loss for words before finally replying, "Well... yeah."

"Great Mylee! Ila, with him?! Gods you can do so much better!" The words barely left Merrill's mouth before she was conked on the head by Louie.

The female warrior merely shrugged and took a mug full of ale from the barmaid's tray as she came to their table, delivering their spirits. "It was inevitable. Although being Melissa's hero I had always assumed--"

"Please, don't mention it now, Genie," Melissa groaned. The barmaid set a mug down in front of her and the priestess promptly took a long sip of the brew. "The very notion has always been against my will. I suspect me sleeping with my champion will not occur for a long while."

Genie raised an eyebrow. She had a feeling with the recent turn of events that "a long while" would be much sooner than the blonde woman desired. She had confided in Genie the gentle urgings of High Priestess Jenny to consummate the relationship of champion and servant some time soon, a ritual used amongst the followers of Mylee to be able to understand their hero. Melissa, however, had already pushed aside the deed for as long as she possibly could due to her uncertainty of Louie.

Understandably so, considering the nature of the man. Brash, rambunctious, inelegant -- the brazen magic-user did not appear to be a man of valour, at least not by nature. But the inexperienced mage they had recruited into their adventure party quite a ways back had continued to demonstrate admiral and worthy characteristics, proving there is much more to the brawler than what they had originally assessed of him.

A true hero is courageous in body, mind, spirit and character. As much as Genie hated to admit, who is to say Louie lacks the qualities of a champion. With training... a lot of training, discipline, time, and experience, perhaps...

The red-haired soldier glanced at the boozy oaf who had wrapped an arm around Ila and was laughing in a drunken stupor until he lost his balance and fell over to the floor, nearly dragging his classmate down with him. Irritably, Melissa covered her eyes with a hand and muttered a small prayer to Mylee.

"It's all about babes 'n booze 'n brawls!" The words rang in Genie's memory like a loud bell.

Suddenly, she closed her eyes and pinched the upper bridge of her nose to block an oncoming headache. He would definitely need a lot of work. There was also a matter she intended to address to the young man once the others had gone, for his own sake as a potential warrior.

"This is all the doings of the gem within this pendant," Ila began, pulling out the piece of jewellery for the others to see. "Decades ago the wearer was a daemon by the name of Dhlundia."

Louie was pulling himself back into his seat as Ila spoke, nodding his head knowingly albeit still drunk given the fact the information was new to him as well. Genie leaned forward from where she sat.

"I know that name," she murmured thoughtfully. "People in my tribe have spoken of the name before; a creature in the form of a human woman -- revered as a goddess for her beauty."

Ila nodded. "Actually, Dhlundia is unique among the dark inhabitants. From what I've read, she possesses the abilities of a shape-shifter, enabling her to change her body. No one is certain of her true form. However, her desires are identical to those of daemons known as the 'succubi'."

Louie's eyes widened considerably. Thanks to his studies of various magics and mythical creatures, he was well aware of the term succubi. They were life threatening to any human male and existed a great distance away on the other side of Alecrast. The notion of this creature being similar to them and having a connection to the gemstone responsible for the enchantment made his face grow white with trepidation.

"Dhlundia is known by several villages and tribes as she's branched out to various human habitats in her time," she continued, adjusting her glasses with a swift movement of her hand. "Most often in the form a beautiful human female the daemon would lure unsuspecting males to her lair and feed from them in earnest."

"Feed?" Merrill shuddered, it sounded like something she's read in a horror story. "You mean in the same way a succubus would to a human male?"

"Her methods probably vary in nature, but yes, basically just devouring their life essence by... well..." Embarrassed, Ila let the sentence hang until Genie filled in the rest of her words.

"By sucking out their minds through their cocks," she completed rather crudely. "Yes, I think we're all aware of the nature of succubi."

Louie shifted in his seat uneasily. As dangerous as he knew these creatures were, the image of a beautiful daemon milking out every last drop of come from his swollen balls was a rather tempting thought. For hours her victims would endure the finest pleasures in existence before their lives were drained from their trembling cocks.

The lure of the enchantment was quickly taking effect on him once again and he desperately fought against it, not wanting to reveal himself in that state to his comrades just yet.

"What of the gemstone?" Melissa inquired. "What purpose does it serve?"

"Over time the people within the villages Dhlundia fed upon began developing ways to resist her charms. Dhlundia would have difficulties luring her prey to her lair, and so she created the gemstone. An enchanted ruby that amplified the human senses, particularly stimulating sexual arousal to unbearable levels and producing more seed from the male, enabling her to savor the victims much longer and satiate her hunger." Ila frowned at this. To think she came in to possession of the enchanted gemstone belonging to this demonic vamp was uncanny.

"There's more," she continued. "Dhlundia would where this gem as a pendant around her neck to attract her prey at the right moment. Once the villagers became aware of its effects they realized it was permanent."

"What?!?!" Louie shrieked. In spite of herself, Melissa had to chuckle at the thought of the rowdy young man walking around Ohfun with a permanent erection. Louie started at the amused sound and looked at her in astonishment. "Melissa, this is so not a laughing matter!"

"Of course not," she affirmed, albeit the image in her mind made it difficult to wipe the grin from her face. She blinked once, perplexed. What had come over her?

"Relax, Louie. I wasn't finished." Ila took a sip of her ale to clear her through before she resume her story. "Those who survived Dhlundia's attentions and returned to the village would have to endure the permanent condition, so the elders, versed in various magics and brewery, created a concoction that would in effect cancel out the biological and psychological effects of the enchantment. Basically a mixture of minerals, herbs and a spell, but the prominent ingredient lies in a rare plant that grows within the village itself."

"So we're going to have to venture all the way to the other side of the continent just to get this stupid plant?" Merrill folded her arms in exasperation. "Where's the profit in that?"

"How about the reward of helping out a friend in need?" Louie suggested with an amused sidelong glance to the thief.

"Yeah, save it unless you can offer up a real reward more shiny in nature -- preferably gold coins."

Melissa sighed and stood up. "As a servant to the hero I am obligated to stay by his side. No matter how perverse the entire situation is in nature."

Genie stood as well. "I'm coming along too. I haven't ventured out quite that far or had a decent battle in some time."

The rest of them stood, preparing to leave the tavern. A mutual agreement that they would all set out on the adventure within a few days. Outside as the setting sun began to descend into the horizon, Genie leaned her back against the rough wood of the tavern and stared of into the distance, waiting for the others to part their ways before holding Louie back with an outstretched arm -- keeping him from exiting the bar.

"Um, Genie you'll need to move your arm so I can go home like everyone else," he said coolly.

The experienced female warrior removed her arm to fold it across her chest with the other, her expression impassive as she spoke, still looking out to the distance before her. "So magician, you just decided it would be convenient for you to force yourself upon Ila while you endure this 'condition' of yours? How valiant."

"What?" Louie walked through the exist and turned until he was standing right in front of Genie, blocking her gaze of the sunset. "Of course not! How could you assume such a thing? We're not children, Genie. We've known each other for years."

She frowned at this. "And yet, you still failed to control the urges of your own body; resolving to take the first opportunity that would make the entire experience of this enchantment much easier on you." Genie's eyes narrowed as she looked at him. "A warrior does not fall prey to the temptations of an easy fix, no matter the circumstances of the situation."

"But--" Louie was silenced by the dangerous glint in her eye that indicated not to interrupt.

"A warrior," she continued, "is disciplined. In both mind and body. They do not flee from battle in cowardice because it's easier than to stay and fight. They do not succumb to fears of the mind as easily as the average person. Equally, under your current circumstances, they do not easily succumb to the temptation of the body."

"I don't understand..."

Genie sighed irritably. "You," she emphasized her point by prodding him in the chest, "lack discipline of the mind. Without it your training can only go so far."

"You're not teaching me anymore?!" he whined, the crestfallen expression on his face nearly pathetic to soldier.

"I didn't say that, you moron." She was quickly losing patience and decided to use a slightly different approach. "I'm amazed you so easily give in to your urges like a randy school boy. Have you no self restraint or control?"

Louie frowned. "Of course I do. But this... hold on me just makes it nearly impossible to exercise any willpower."

Genie shrugged, "A warrior has control of his own instincts and body. If you can't master this simple matter of the mind, if you continually take the easy route out--"

"But I don't do that do that at all," Louie objected with a pout. Genie sighed again, putting a hand to her forehead.

"Well then, magician, I suggest you start exercising some discipline. Starting immediately."

Her next move shocked Louie to his core as she closed the distance between them by grabbing his crotch in a firm grip. He gasped and she flashed him a roguish smile. "Follow me."
