Here Goes Nothin'

AN: SPOILERS!!!! Anyway, for those of you continuing on, this takes place during the four-year period between the end of Love Hina #14 and the epilogue, exactly one year before said epilogue. Just to make that clear. ^_^

“ Finally here… Well, here goes nothin'…”
Kyle Harris slung his back up over his shoulder, looking up at the grand Hinata House. The place was amazing; The house towered above everything nearby, sunshine sparkling off the polished windows and there was not a speck of dust (Figuratively speaking) on the long pathway of steps up to the main entrance. It'd taken him a long time, almost three years, to earn the money needed after hearing about it from the California Archeology Institute his friend Keitaro had come to almost three years ago. Keitaro had said it'd be great if he could come to see him in Japan, and Kyle had taken it to heart, always wanting to see Japan for himself. Luckily, with a few classes and Keitaro's help, he could speak his fair share of Japanese, enough to get him by, anyway.

“Wow, how many stairs are there in this place…”
Kyle was breathing heavily, almost panting by the time he got to the top of the steps, and fell on the ground, wheezing.
“ Huff…Puff…So…Much…Stuff…”
He laughed at little at his lame joke, then stopped suddenly when he realized there was a young girl, only about 19 or so, staring at him upside down, head cocked quizzically to the side.

“ Hiyas, whatcha doin'?
Kyle scrambled up, deeply embarrassed and flushing a very bright shade of red.
“…Sorry, so sorry, I was just…I-I mean I just came to, I-I mean…I-I mea-“ He stopped, noticing the girl shaking with laughter, looking like she was on the verge of crying she was laughing so hard. Even more embarrassed, Kyle composed himself, and said,
“ Hi. I'm Kyle Harris, a friend of Keitaro Urashima from America, I've come to catch up, see how's he doing.” The girl, finally composing herself, snorted one last time and said in a muffled, still half-laughing voice,
“ Heya there, I'm Kaolla Su, but just call me Su, everyone else does.” She was very pretty, beautiful even, with very white-blonde hair, dark tan skin, and big, big green eyes. She pointed up to the house, saying, “ Keitaro's up there with Naru, probably sucking face like they normally are.” Kyle almost tripped at that statement, and coughed,
“ What? Last time I saw Keitaro, he was a wreck…All worked up about this girl…what was her name…” Something clicked, and his face dropped. “ Oh. It was Naru… Huh, guess that finally worked out for him?”
“ Yupyup, they've been together almost three years now. Keitaro still hasn't popped the question, either…”
Kyle grinned, a small, half-smile, and replied, “ HmmHmm. From nervous wreck to dating to marriage, all since I saw him last… He's certainly been busy.”
Su hefted one of the bags he dropped, and headed off into the house. Kyle followed, walking in through the double doors to the main living area of the house.

“Who's the new guy?”
Kyle turned and saw a woman about the same age as him, a large bottle of sake in her right hand, half-empty.
“Hi. I'm Ky-“ He was abruptly cut off when Su flew into her standard house-warming drop kick, laying him out flat with the wind knocked out of him, saying as she did,
“ This newbie right here is Kyle, one of Keitaro's friends from America who came ALL the way here to see him.”
The woman ran an eye over him, getting off the floor with a slightly pained and VERY surprised facial expression. She started to a laugh, and said, “ Well, nice to meet ya, Kyle. I'm Mitsune Konno, but everyone calls me Kitsune.” Kitsune was very pretty too, with neck-length silvery blonde hair, curvy brown eyes, and a wide smile.
“Ouch…Su, do you do that to everyone?” It was plain to see he was more shocked then hurt, but she put an arm around him and giggled, “ No, just the people I like. Which is just about everyone, but since you're the newbie, and you're SOOO cute, you get something special to make up for it!” She grabbed his face and kissed him, then darted off, bouncing all the way. Kyle was standing still, slightly dazed, a little elated, and a lot confused.
“That's never happened before. Normally, that requires dinner first.” He shook his head and asked Kitsune,
“ Kitsune, where's Keitaro? I'd like to go say hi.”
“ Up the stairs, to the right, room 204. That's his room, if he's not in there, he's in Naru's room, 304, or they're out in the back somewhere. It's hard to catch those two apart nowadays…” She sighed, took a big swig of sake, and sat down in front of the TV to watch the horse race.

Kyle dropped his stuff at the bottom of the stairs, and walked up and around to room 204. He could hear muffled noises coming from the other side, and he thought it best to knock first. He did so, rapping sharply on the door three times. The noises stopped, and thumping could be heard on it's way to the door. It was thrown open, nearly toppling Kyle, and a glasses-less Keitaro could be seen standing in the doorway, yelling,
“ We were just studying, honest!!! Well, maybe a little kissing too, but-“ He was cut off when a book and then a large lump appeared in the back of his head.
“They don't need to know that, you idiot!!!!!”
Keitaro was turning back to say something, when he noticed the tall, blonde, blue-eyed man laughing a couple feet away from the door. He dashed into the room, grabbed his glasses, put them on, and dashed back out the door, staring at the new face for a second before breaking out into a big grin.
“Kyle? Kyle, is that you? Wow, it's been what, three years? How are ya?” Keitaro grabbed his hand and shook it vigorously.
“ Fine, just fine Keitaro, now let go of my hand, you're gonna pull my arm off, mate.”
Keitaro let go instantly, and if this had been an anime, a large drop would have appeared on his forehead. Thankfully, it isn't, so, he merely stopped shaking.
“ What are you doing here? I know we talked about you coming for a visit sometime, but aren't you still in college? I thought you were a senior this year?”
“ I would be, but I worked my ass off so much I graduated a year early. I really wanted to get out of those classrooms, Keitaro, and get my hands dirty. Wait, aren't you at senior at Tokyo U this year?”
“ Yes, and I do know what you mean. I need a shovel… Oh! Have you met everyone yet?”
“ Well, I met Kitsune and Su, Su rather forcefully I might add…” His eyebrow rose at the recent memory.
“Get used to it, she dropkicks me all the time…I guess it's how she shows she like you or something. It's big in Molmol.”
“ Huh. I'll try to duck next time.”
“ Good luck. Anyway, this is Naru.” Naru came up and stood beside him, extending her hand. Naru was absolutely stunning, with very long brown hair, sparkling brown eyes, and a smile to die for. Taking her hand and shaking it, Kyle thought to himself, What the hell? How did Keitaro end up with a knockout like her? Wow, miracles do happen…You're a lucky guy, Keitaro…
“ Naru, this is Kyle, an old friend from the University in California I studied at a couple of years ago.”
“Hi Kyle. Come on, let's go introduce you to everyone.” She walked downstairs, Keitaro and Kyle following closely behind. Back in the living room, Kitsune was shouting madly at the horses on the screen, her bottle of Sake completely empty.
“WHAT!?!? DAMN YOU, NUMBER 12!!!
She tried to take a drink of sake, noticed it was empty, and snorted in disgust. She quickly composed herself, however, when she saw Naru and the two men wander into the room.
“Kitsune, where is everyone? I was going to introduce them to Kyle.”
“Umm… I think Shinobu's doing laundry, and Motoko's training somewhere. Or maybe they had class today… I DON'T KNOW, LEAVE ME BE, WOMAN!!” She snorted again and plopped back down in front of the TV, pulling free the extra bottle of sake she had stored in the couch.

“O…Kay, well, why don't you go find and introduce yourself to Shinobu and Motoko, and Keitaro and me will make some dinner to celebrate, kay?”
“Sure thing, Naru. Thanks for being so hospitable, it's nice to feel at home so far away.”
Kyle climbed the stairs again, and headed down the hall, looking for the roof staircase. Naru pulled Keitaro into the kitchen, nearly knocking his glasses off in the process.
“ Where did you find him? He's such a gentleman! I hope he stays for a while…” Naru didn't fail to notice Keitaro's hurt expression, and she gently kissed him to make up for it.
“ Don't be like that, you know you're the one for me. I'm just saying he seems like a nice guy, and it'd be great if he stayed around Japan for a while. Do you know where he's staying?”
“ No, not at all. I'll ask, though, after dinner tonight.”
“ You do that. Now, what are you making?”
“ Me? You said WE were going to make dinner?”
“Yeah…So, what part of we meaning you doesn't make sense?”
“Grumble grumble…*sound of pots and pans clanging together is heard* Grumble…”
“ That's what I thought.” She smiled sweetly, planting another kiss on his cheek. “ Have fun!” She cooed, on her way out the door. Keitaro sighed.
“ Dammit, that's the third time this week…”
