(Lupin isn't mine. An unexpected visitor stops the Lupin Gang halfway to the islands as Fabian and Miguel get a nasty surprise.)

Twenty-Eight: Abrupt Change In Plans

The night was dark, the only light visible being the millions of stars overhead as the ship made it's way through the seemingly endless black water. Jigen kept an eye on the compass, keeping the ship heading due west. Everyone else was asleep but Goemon had agreed to take over the wheel at three a.m. Jigen glanced at the clock on the console, discovering it was only midnight.

~Couldn't Lupin get a faster ship? ~ He thought. His eyes were drawn down to the radar when a blip appeared to be heading towards the ship at a high rate of speed. He looked out the window in the direction the disturbance was coming from, ~Fuck. Who in the hell could that be? ~

The radio on the console crackled to life. A woman's voice came through the speaker, " Unidentified ship, turn back now. You are in Kilbrid-Saguna Pirate territory. If you continue, you will be fired upon and chances of your survival are less than zero. "

" Kilbrid? " Jigen muttered, recognizing the name. He quickly grabbed up the microphone. " Did you say Kilbrid? "

" Yes. What of it? Stop your approach now! " The woman snapped back.

Jigen idled the engine, " Are you any relation to Andrea Kilbrid? "

" I AM Andrea Kilbrid, " The woman barked back.

Jigen felt a chill run down his spine. " There's no way. She was killed in an explosion today… or at least I think she was. "

" Very funny. I should know if I'm alive or not, " The woman that had identified herself as Andrea said sarcastically. " Hold on. How do you know about that? "

" Andrea, " Jigen paused, wondering if it was such a good idea to tell her whom it was after what had happened that morning.

" Wait a minute. Daisuke Jigen? " Andrea answered back.

Jigen sighed, " Yeah. It's me. "

" Hold your position, " Andrea said as the sound of a high-powered boat reached Jigen's ears. " I want to speak with you. "

Jigen felt his gut knot, " Why? "

" You'll find out, " Andrea said and cut off communications.

" Ah damn it, " Jigen shut his eyes. " We're boned. "

Fabian sat on the deck of his ship, looking towards the west with a hand-held telescope. He smiled as the largest of the Kilbrid-Saguna islands came into view. " There it is, " He muttered.

" There's what, boss? " Miguel asked.

" The mail island of the old leper colony, " Fabian put down the telescope. He smiled, " The waters we are in right now are the richest in the entire world. Billions of dollars worth of treasure cover the sea floor beneath us. "

" Really? " Miguel asked.

" Yes, " Fabian looked at Miguel. " Do you remember why we kidnapped that Andrea woman? "

" You said something about her having a map but I never really found out the whole story, " Miguel shrugged.

Fabian sighed, " Okay. I guess you weren't listening. I kidnapped her because she is a member of the guerilla group that is in control of these islands. Surely you've heard of the Kilbrid-Saguna Pirates? "

Miguel nodded, " They're that group who wants the history of Malta's leper colony put back into the history books. "

" Very good. Do you know anything about the history of the leper colony? " Fabian asked.

" Um, no. "

Fabian looked a little annoyed. " I have been studying them since I first met Annalisa when she was just a schoolgirl. Supposedly, the lepers in Malta were exiled to this chain of islands. The conditions were rather harsh and they had to scrape out a meager existence until they discovered that this was a major shipping route. The ones who had not advanced in their disease became pirates, sinking any ships that came through that would not give them food or fresh water. "

" Hold on. Is this the same area where almost one hundred and fifty ships were sunk in a period of thirty years? " Miguel put his hand up.

" Yes, " Fabian nodded. " That is how it is known in the history books today. It was omitted that the ones who did the sinking were lepers though. "

" So what are the Kilbrid-Saguna Pirates trying to accomplish? " Miguel looked confused.

" They want the history of the lepers to be remembered, " Fabian sounded exasperated. " I already told you that. "

" But I thought all of the lepers died, " Miguel said.

" They did, you idiot. However, the lepers had families that were not affected by the disease. Two of the largest families were the Kilbrids and the Sagunas. There were other families but those two lost the most members to leprosy. It's the ancestors of those lepers that are pushing for the recognition of Malta's lepers. "

" I guess they also want to lay claim to all of the treasure here as well? " Miguel said.

Fabian nodded, " Yes. There are a lot of people who think they don't deserve it. I think it should be fair game for anyone brave enough to come out here and get it. "

" Boss! " Guido scrambled up onto the deck.

Fabian turned around, " Why aren't you piloting the ship? "

" Someone just came on the radio and said for us to turn back or we would be blown out of the water, " Guido said.

" Ignore them. It is only talk. Those guerillas only have machine guns and pistols. Andrea told me that when I tortured the information out of her, " Fabian waved his hand.

" What if she lied? " Guido asked.

" She couldn't have, " Fabian smirked. " The truth serum and the electro shock made it impossible for her to lie. Keep going. "

Jigen waited on the deck, smoking his cigarette. He turned when he heard someone come over the railing, finding it was indeed Andrea. " I thought you were dead, " He said as she approached.

" You said that already, " Andrea said as someone else tumbled over the rail behind her.

" Who's that? " Jigen asked as Samara aimed a machine gun at him.

" This is my twin sister, Samara. Give me your gun and tell me why you are here, Jigen. "

Jigen reached behind him and pulled out the Magnum. He put on the deck and kicked it to Andrea. " We found a map at the mansion. Lupin found out it was a treasure map and that was about all. "

Andrea picked up the Magnum. " You didn't know it was a treasure map? "

" No, we didn't. Lupin had to look for information on it, " Jigen took a step towards Andrea but stopped when she aimed the Magnum at him.

" Oh really? " Andrea arched an eyebrow.

" Really. We just took it because we thought it might be important. We were there to take the money and save the women, " Jigen said. " A lot of damn good it was though. "

" Why do you say that? " Andrea looked confused.

Jigen furrowed his brow, " You mean you don't know? "

" Of course I don't. I parted ways with the others once I went to the police and told them where you were. I had to get back to my people and left the others. Since they had all that cash, I figured they'd be okay. Why? "

Jigen shut his eyes; " Fabian, Miguel and the guy that broke them out of jail blew them sky high earlier today. Everyone is dead. "

Andrea lowered the Magnum, " Fabian and Miguel aren't in jail anymore? "

" No. They attacked Fujiko first but she got away, " Jigen explained.

" I see, " Andrea narrowed her eyes. " Is she okay now? "

" Yes. Goemon was with her, " Jigen nodded.

" Isn't Goemon also working with Fabian and Miguel? " Andrea arched an eyebrow.

" What kind of question is that? " Jigen looked insulted. " Do you think he would have went in there and risked his life to save Fujiko if we were working for Fabian? Do you think Lupin would have sent him into such a dangerous situation if we had anything to do with those two scumbags? "

" It could all be an elaborate ruse, " Andrea scoffed.

Jigen pointed at the Magnum. " Do you think I would have given you my gun so easily if this were some big play? "

" You might have an extra, " Andrea walked to Jigen. " Take off your clothes, put your hands on the rail and spread your legs. If you try anything funny, my sister will be happy to cut you in half with her gun. "

Jigen did as he was told. He took off everything except for his fedora, briefs and his socks. When he was finished, he turned to the rail and said, " What did I do to piss you off? "

" You lied, " Andrea said as she ran her empty hand through the pile of Jigen's clothes, taking a cigarette and his lighter. She lit her cigarette and put the lighter back then walked to him.

" I keep telling you that we did not lie to you. We didn't lie to anyone, " Jigen said. He took a sharp breath when Andrea ran her hands up his thighs and in between his legs. " I'm not hiding anything down there, " He muttered as her hand lingered in a rather sensitive spot.

" Perhaps I can get you to tell the truth using the same methods Fabian used on me, " Andrea purred as she started fondling his crotch.

" Is there something wrong in your head? " Jigen barked. " Get your hand off of me because I don't like stubborn women and I especially hate it when they can't tell what the truth is. "

" Then I'm glad I got what I could from you, " Andrea slapped Jigen on the ass. She smiled, " You were a lot of fun. "

" Sister, " Samara said as she listened to the earphone she had jammed in her ear. " There's call from base. "

Andrea growled and turned up her earphone. Her eyes went wide as she listened. " What the hell? " She shouted.

" What's going on? Why is there so much noise up here? " Lupin said as he walked up the stairs that led below deck. He wore his boxers and had the Walther in his hand.

Andrea and Samara both turned, aiming their weapons at him. " It's you! " Andrea hissed.

" Hey! Weren't you blown up this afternoon? " Lupin was very bewildered. He looked at her then Samara, " Holy shit! You were split in two! "

" Go back to bed, Lupin! I'm handling it! " Jigen said.

" I supposed that's why Andrea has your gun. Oh wait! That IS the way you really handle things, in your drawers and fedora, " Lupin said sarcastically.

" I said go back to bed! " Jigen growled. " You don't have much room to talk right now. "

" Lupin, " Fujiko said as she walked to his side, her skimpy nightgown fluttering in the slight breeze that had come up. She looked at Andrea and Samara. " Oh my! Why is Jigen almost naked and why are there two Andreas? "

" She's a twin, Fujiko! Both of you go back to bed! " Jigen turned around from the railing.

Andrea turned to face Jigen again, " Don't move! "

Jigen put his hands up, " Sorry! "

Lupin leaned over to Fujiko, " I'm going to distract Andrea number two and you get Jigen's gun away from Andrea number one. "

Fujiko elbowed him in the ribs, " That's a stupid idea! I'm not doing it! "

" Nobody fucking move, damn it! " Andrea screeched. " Nobody talk, no one wiggle a finger and God help anyone who sneezes! "

" Can we breathe at least? " Lupin popped off and cringed when his reply came in the form of a warning shot that hit the paneling behind him.

" I want to know what is going on here and I want to know now! " Andrea shouted. " Our base just called and said another ship was approaching the main island! Whoever it is, they are refusing to answer the warnings that are being sent out! "

" How are we supposed to know? " Jigen snapped. " I keep telling you we're working alone! "

" Oh just fuck it! " Andrea aimed the Magnum at Jigen. " Samara, you can shoot the monkey boy and Megumi or Fujiko or whatever her fucking name is. I'm tired of the lies and the bullshit! "

Both women began to pull back on the triggers of the guns they held but something happened. In the span of a few seconds, the machine gun pieces and the Magnum clattered to the deck. Samara stared in shock at the pieces of her gun when the click of a sword being snapped back into a sheath caught her attention. Andrea was cradling her right hand to her chest and hissing in pain but noticed the click as well.

" Goemon! " Fujiko whispered as the samurai rose from the crouch he had landed in after he completed his attack. She felt her cheeks become warm when she realized he was only wearing his loincloth and was getting quite an eyeful of his ass.

" Gah! " Lupin screamed and put his hand over his eyes. He reached over and put his other hand over Fujiko's eyes. " Don't look! "

" Oh be quiet, " Fujiko pushed his hand away. " I've seen a lot more than that. "

" Don't remind me, " Lupin said and put the hand back over Fujiko's eyes.

Jigen snatched up the Magnum and pointed it at Andrea. He didn't take his eyes off of her; " It would have been nice if you bothered to put on some pants, man. "

Goemon turned around, " If had, you would all be dead… just like we thought she was. I would like to know what is going on since I was woke up by the shouting everyone was doing. "

" As you see, " Jigen said. " Andrea isn't dead, she has a twin and she still thinks we're working with Fabian and Miguel. I told her otherwise but she doesn't believe me. "

" I see, " Goemon nodded. He looked at Samara. She seemed transfixed by the sight before her.

" Um, hi. I'm Samara, " She said in a nervous tone. Her gaze was moving from Goemon's head to feet and back again.

Goemon blushed and looked down at the deck. " I suppose you are Andrea's twin? "

Samara nodded slowly, " Uh-huh. "

" Snap out of it Samara, " Andrea growled.

" You must be Goemon, " Samara ignored her sister.

Goemon nodded but didn't look up from the deck, " Yes. I am the one that risked my life to save your sister and twelve others. "

" Don't listen to him, Samara! " Andrea shouted louder.

" Why shouldn't she believe the truth? " Goemon looked at Andrea. " You were there. Matter of fact, you tried to molest me if I recall correctly. "

Andrea nodded, " So? I thought you were really hot. "

" Yes, " Goemon's blush deepened. " Anyway, I was also there when Fabian and Miguel were making their bogus confession. I couldn't stop them unless I wanted to blow my cover. I was too late for the Maltese investigator already knew who I was. "

Samara looked at Andrea, " Can I say something? "

" Yes, " Andrea replied in a hostile tone.

" I don't think they're working with those assholes that kidnapped you, " Samara said quietly. " I think they are telling us the truth. "

" Gah. Could you tell me why? " Andrea threw her hands up in the air. She hissed and drew her right hand back to her chest, " Shit. "

" Whoa. The base is calling again, " Samara said. " The ship keeps getting closer to the island. "

" Damn it, " Andrea growled. " The guys on the beach are going to have to fire. I was hoping to keep this peaceful until the government voted but it looks like it can't be helped. "

" Government? " Lupin looked at Fujiko.

" What the hell have we tripped into this time? " Fujiko looked at him.

Andrea looked at Lupin and Fujiko. " You don't know what this is all about? "

" I haven't the foggiest idea. Do you mind throwing me a bone? " Lupin glanced at Jigen. " It's only fair since you've already given him one. "

" Lupin! " Jigen shouted.

Andrea looked at Samara, " What do you think? "

" If they don't know then they aren't involved, " Samara said.

" Ask us a question about what you're talking about. I bet you I won't be able to answer it at all, " Lupin put his hands up.

Andrea took a step forward. " Okay. Can you tell me why the islands are so important? "

" Um. There's at least eighty billion dollars worth of treasure scattered around them? " Lupin offered.

Samara tapped Andrea on the shoulder, " The guys on the beach are asking for permission to fire the rocket launchers. "

" Tell me what daddy says, " Andrea said then refocused her attention on Lupin. She shut her eyes, " You've studied well but not well enough. "

" Okay. Ask me another question, " Lupin said.

" Can you tell me why there is so much treasure in this area? " Andrea asked.

Lupin tapped his chin as he thought about it. " Hmmm. It was a major shipping route in the old world and pirates inhabited those islands? "

Andrea nodded, " But why were those pirates on those islands? "

" Because they were in the route and knew it would be easy pickings? " Lupin shrugged. " If you ask me, they were pretty smart. "

" Smart? " Andrea shouted. " You think they were just there because they were smart? "

" Yeah. Why else would they be there? " Lupin asked.

Samara put her hand on Andrea's shoulder, " He doesn't know at all. He's not working with Fabian and Miguel. Fabian's been studying our islands for years and knows everything. If Fabian were working for Lupin, he probably would have told him at least the basics. "

Andrea shut her eyes and let out a frustrated breath. " I suppose you are right. Has daddy given the order to fire yet? "

" No but he did tell the men to prepare their weapons, " Samara said. She fell silent for a few moments. " Daddy just called for us. "

" Answer him, " Andrea sighed.

Samara nodded and pushed the 'talk' button on her communication unit. " This is Red Raven and Black Raven, over… Yes sir. We are with another ship that has come into our territory. "

" No sir. They are not foes… simply misguided. I understand sir… Red Raven out, " Samara let go of the button.

" What did he say? " Lupin asked.

" Daddy wants us to escort you back to shore. He will commence the attack on the other ship in five minutes. He thinks it is Fabian and Miguel, " Samara looked around. " Is there some rope we can tether our ship to this one with? "

Lupin shrugged, " Ask the captain. I'm just the first mate. "

Andrea looked at Jigen, " Is there any rope? "

" In the control room in the bench on the right. Let me get my shit together and I'll get dressed down there after I give you the rope, " Jigen said and bend down to collect his clothes.

" Do you see any ships down there? " Zenigata asked as he looked out his side of the helicopter. He had a pair of night vision binoculars pressed to his eyes.

" Not yet, " Faye said from her side. A moment later, she started tapping the window. " Oh look! Right there! "

Zenigata moved to her window, pressing her against the seat as he looked. He noticed his arm was resting against her breasts and blushed. " Oh, sorry. "

Faye shook her head, " It's okay. "

" It looks like a second ship is along side that first one, " Zenigata pointed then noticed a flag the large of the two ships had flying. He growled, " That's Lupin's ship! "

Faye snatched the binoculars from Zenigata and looked down at the ship, " It looks like someone in a… oh my! " Faye put a hand over her mouth.

Zenigata took the binoculars back and saw why had shocked Faye. Goemon was helping a woman tie the smaller ship to the larger one and he was wearing nothing but his loincloth. " That's Goemon Ishikawa The Thirteenth. "

" My. The last time I saw him he was so… so… " Faye stammered.

" Dressed? " Zenigata grumbled.

Faye nodded, " Yeah. That's it. "

Zenigata took a sharp breath and blushed. Fujiko was on the deck of the ship with Lupin and they were helping tether the smaller vessel. " Look. There's Fujiko Mine… I mean Megumi Ishikawa. "

" What? " Faye asked.

Zenigata looked at Faye after lowering the binoculars, " Megumi Ishikawa and Fujiko Mine are the same person, Faye. I just didn't say anything to Sgt. Martin because he's already suspicious enough of me. "

" So we've found one of the missing girls that didn't get burned up? " Faye arched an eyebrow.

" Yeah, " Zenigata took another look through the binoculars. " And I think we also found Miss Kilbrid as well. Take a look. "

Faye took the binoculars again. She watched as Goemon climbed the rope back to the larger ship, followed by what looked by Andrea. She looked at the main ship and saw someone else that looked like Andrea. " We sure have and we found her twin as well. "

" Twin? " Zenigata looked surprised.

" That's something I failed to mention. Andrea has an identical twin sister. I didn't mention that. You never mentioned Megumi and Fujiko being the same person so we're even now " Faye smiled.

Zenigata looked down at the ship again and let out a yelp of surprise. " Oh crap! It looks like they're turning back! "

" Excuse me, investigators. We have to turn back. We've just received a warning from the guerillas that they are going to start firing explosives at every unauthorized vessel and aircraft in the area, " The helicopter pilot said.

" What? " Zenigata shouted.

" Apparently, someone violated their space. Normally, they aren't that violent but they also decreed that they would blow up anyone who came close to the islands unless they received prior notice. Of course, they don't fire on passenger vessels or commercial vessels but unannounced private vessels are fair game. Go ahead and turn around, " Faye patted the pilot on the shoulder.

" We were announced though, " The pilot said.

" I don't want to get caught up in the melee though, " Faye sighed. " We'll just have to wait. "

" What about Fabian and Miguel? " Zenigata asked.

An explosion rumbled from a good distance away, flames shooting up into the night sky. The pilot quickly turned the helicopter around as fast as he could. The gravity of the turn pressed Zenigata against Faye with more intensity than before. He found himself face to face with her and she smirked.

" With any luck, that explosion was their ship. That will show them to mess with my ancestors, " Faye said smoothly.

Zenigata blinked, " Wait. You? "

" Shhh, " Faye whispered. " Don't let it get out. "

" What about him? " Zenigata pointed at the pilot.

" Don't worry. I'm a guerilla too, " The pilot glanced over his shoulder.

Once the helicopter had come out of the turn, Zenigata slumped back down in his seat. " Why does this always happen to me? "
